Hello all,
Apologies if this is the wrong place for this question, but is there any Wifi calling .apk for the Stable version of CM-10? I flashed it the other day and so far it's been super smooth and the battery's running better than ever. I'm on Android 4.1.2, using the CM kernel and radio. I'd love to get back to using Wifi calling again as I did on the stock ROM.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I believe this is a topic that will just never die. Every n00b (no offense intended) to our little party always asks about it it's a shame nobody's replied before now. But I guess no replies is better than troll replies Perhaps we should sticky a notification at the top of the forum alerting everybody about WiFi calling?
Here's the deal with WiFi calling. In the olden days, when 2.3.6 was prevalent on most devices (including the high end devices), T-Mo's wifi calling was using an actual app (with an apk extension) using a running service. This was glorious. This was rip-able and implantable into CM ROMs.
Now, however, T-Mo's WiFi Calling feature is implemented using an IMS stack. Essentially, what IMS does is it takes a VoIP connection and authenticates using unknown parameters (though it's speculated to be your cellular number, IMEI, SIM serial, or some other device/account specific number it can pull programatically) to T-Mo's IMS servers and uses that tunnel to establish a connection with T-Mo's call routing servers through the internet rather than cellular connection.
I know what you're thinking... "That's great! But that still doesn't answer why I dont have it in CM10.x/11"
Because the IMS stack and all related services and dependencies are built and compiled into the TouchWiz framework (for Samsung, idk if WiFi calling is available on other manufacturers phones), which is closed source and proprietary. Nobody knows what's needed. And trust me, I've researched the crap out of it, discussed the crap out of it, and nobody's getting anywhere.

essentially, here's what IMS is (I've researched the #$%^ out of it, but just dont have the dev skills to impletement)
IMS sits on Touchwiz's framework as a service waiting for a wifi connection
Upon connecting to wifi, it authenticates to T-Mobile's IMS servers using public and private keys (theres a lot of speculation as to what is used to authenticate, but seeing as how you dont have to be stock, you can use any touchwiz based rom, i would say its something hardware specific, such as SIM serial, IMEI, phone number, etc)
Once authentication is complete, it creates a voip tunnel.
The biggest problem (from what I can tell reading other people's research) is figuring out what files are necessary from Touchwiz to emulate in AOSP ROMs. IMS itself is open source, but Tmo has hacked it all up

Bingo! That's exactly it. To Cross post a tad, 1. I haven't given up on Development, I have had some Life issues reciently (nothing bad just time consuming) so I have had to put things on hold for about 3-4 weeks while I get some time to myself to work on this uninterupted. 2. I have combed through the SGS4 Files and T-Mo looks to be moving more Files in to the WiFi Calling App itself. This is sort of signalling them making this more Standalone. But They have a Very long way to go though.

Because it's so ingrained into TW's framework, we have no chance of it ever getting into an AOSP-based ROM short of sideloading the entire TW framework on top of it (which defeats the purpose of AOSP). There are various bounties, but I think everybody has pretty much given up hope on ever achieving this. It would probably be easier to figure out what exactly is being sent to T-Mo's IMS server as authentication and try to build a standalone IMS client from scratch to authenticate and open the VoIP, which T-Mo is likely to have thought to prevent.
Wow thanks for the explanation, I had no idea it was so ingrained into the actual framework of the system. I had an old Vibrant that I rooted and swapped ROMs but managed to add a Wifi calling .apk so was hoping there was one for the Blaze. Bummer.
In any case, thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Everyone,
I just received a ATT fuse and for the life of me I cannot seem to get the WIFI to work. I've had the tilt and the 8125 previously and I tried duplicating settings to no avail.
Are there known issues with the WIFI on this phone?
I can connect to my WEP enabled wireless router, but opera and IE fails to connect and just keeps giving me errors. This is what I have read and what I have tried:
Setting to "work" instead of "Internet"
I've tried the cab files posted in another thread to disable ATT proxy
I'm a little lost in what to check. I did follow everything I've read here that came up in "WIFI" search. I have not unlocked the phone nor flash a rom.
Could someone lend a hand?
Sign up for the att media program...its on the attwireless site
This is a bit drastic, but an easy potential fix is to flash another ROM (after flashing Hard-SPL of course). AT&T often adds a bunch of unnecessary crap to their ROMs, which may interfere with normal functions. You could always flash the AT&T ROM back if you'd like.
Hi Animexi80,
I already have a data plan. The problem isn't with Media net, it is with the phone's built in WIFI.
Trancecoder,
Really, that drastic of a step.. Do you know of a rom that fixed a WIFI problem?
Thanks

Honestly, I never even gave the AT&T ROM a chance, so I was unaware of Wi-Fi issues. Pretty much any ROM should work. If you flash a Fuze-specific ROM, you may want to run the CAB that disables the hidden AT&T proxy. If you flash a generic Touch Pro ROM, you'll likely need to run a CAB that fixes the keyboard layout.
Ok, I suppose I will give it a go.
If I may ask, would you tell me which rom and radio you're running. It would help rule things out it it doesn't correct the problem.
thanks

What is the "hidden AT&T proxy?"
I just got an AT&T Fuze and after enableing wifi using the wireless manager, had no trouble connecting to home wireless networks with various security configurations (WEP, WPA, hidden SSID, etc.). Of course if the access point has the MAC filter enabled, the Fuze MAC address must be added to the allowed list.

I'm running an older PROven ROM, version 1.03. I'll be upgrading soon, probably to NATF's ROM. My radio ROM is 1.08.25.20, but (1) the radio ROM doesn't control Wi-Fi, so it's moot, and (2) it has not had very good battery life, so I'll downgrade back to 1.02.25.28 tonight.

It's a proxy setting, separate from the normal one under Connections, that is hidden. It's used to make things such as Cingular, er, Cellular Video work.

This is a bit off-topic, but FYI, anything below WPA/WPA2 cannot be considered secure. WEP can be cracked in minutes, hidden SSIDs don't make APs invisible, and MAC filtering is useless (except with WPA/WPA2) as anyone sniffing traffic can see client MAC addresses in the clear.
I have found that sometimes when I have both a "data connection" and a "wi-fi" connection that they phone seems to not lock on the wi-fi but tries to use a weak data connection so try turning off the data connection and see if that fixes the problem. Also give a soft reset a try as well.
Surprised by how few ppl are having wi-fi issues. I've tried about 6 ROMs now and have the same problem with everyone (guessing this proves its more of a hardware vs software issue)
I can locate and connect to a wi-fi network but no data transfers. I have to continually disconnect/turn off/reconnect over and over and finally I will get a connection..but if unit goes into sleep for a few minutes...I have to repeat.
Very annoying...no one else is having wi-fi issues?
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't reported back sooner. I wound up loading a different rom on the phone and away went the problem.
jank0023, I have no idea. I would flash the phone back to stock and return it for another if all else fails. In all my searching, here and elsewhere, there ahve been a handful of wifi problems I came across. It doesn't seem like that common of a problem afaik.

If its your router try another channel make sure its on a supported signal (a,b, g)... lastly ensure your router is excepting all devices. I know these are basic checklist items but sometimes these can get us. I had a laptop that would only work on channel 6 ;-).

Thanks guys for the suggestions...I don't think its related to my network setup as I have about 4 other devices able to obtain signals with no problems using DHCP.
Issues don't seem to be as severe on some of the most recent ROMs I've used but still not perfect.
I've been trying to get my PPTP VPN to work over verizon 3g for the past few weeks, but it never works. It connects, and the data stops being received after a matter of seconds. It works absolutely fine over wifi, just not over 3g. I thought this was verizon's fault, but then I found a google group where I discovered that ALL Android owners trying to use PPTP over their carrier's mobile network are having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!
Is there any easy fix to this? I can't believe Google has let this go on for more than a year since people started complaining about it. This is a major flaw and a dealbreaker for enterprise users.
Any suggestions? See below for string about problem involving ALL ANDROID PHONES:

I'm not sure what pptp is, but I got my corporate email to work through the native email app. The emails are pushed, but I get fc when I try to read any messages. It worked for a few weeks before crapping out one day

Installed OpenVPN then which works like a charm so maybe you should try that. You need to be rooted though afaik.

I tried doing OpenVPN, but when I looked up the instructions, they were way beyond my computer programming abilities. Even the person who posted the "simple" instructions in this forum started referring to files I'd never heard of - config files, adb, etc. I REALLY need to get VPN to work on my phone, is there any chance you'd be willing to explain, in layman's terms, how to set it up on Android?
VPN do work on Android...
May be there might be some issues with the configuration, why don't you configure it once again. It will definitely help you out
Well i just have found some useful information for you, first of all that there are number of VPN Providers who are offering Free Android VPN and as well as the query mentioned above that you guys are having problem with your android phone..
so as i suggested above, try to configure again. May be that helps you out...

PPTP is broken and all security-aware enterprises have migrated to more secure solutions ages ago. I don't think it's a priority to get it working, but obviously it should work if it's included by default!
Hi everybody,
I have a little problem with Tellme when I'm on cellular network. I cannot dictate messages anymore when I'm not under wifi.
I can surf the web without problems and even apps from marketplace are working flawlessly, only that function is not working.
Is it possible that my carrier is blocking the port where the requests are redirected?
Thanks for any help
Alex
P.S.: my cellphone is a Lumia 710 and my carrier is Vodafone IT
Interesting. I have kinda the opposite here. Under my work WiFi I cannot connect. I run the network and I can't see where the firewall is blocking it so I would also like to know what port uses.
on Nokia don't you have a network connection setup tool? Check Nokia in the marketplace and see if it fixes it.

I already tried with Nokia app, but nothing changed...
I'm meeting the same issue....happened since Mango. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21800758#post21800758
Works fine on wifi though. Troubleshooted with LG (phone) and StarHub (carrier), but no joy to date.
Do you know if your carrier is blocking some kind of traffic (for example voip)? Maybe the problem is related to this... Maybe the Tellme service relies on a port our respective carriers are blocking because they are usually used by some service they block for convenience (like the one Skype uses for voice)...
Today, for some reason, everything restarted to work again, apparently without intervention... I'm going to mantain it tested over the next days to see if something changes...
Thanks to all for the moment!

It seems I have found the real solution: the culprit is Network Configuration app from Nokia, but I also think that all network configuration apps are creating the same problem.
I saw with an app that I had 2 connections configured and obiviously the one that has priority is the one written nobody knows where by the app, instead of using the right one I manually configured.
So I started the app again and I used a wrong carrier. The wrong connection has changed, but this time is disconnected so now I am sure the one used is the one configured by me.
Now everything seems to work for real, I'm obviously going to mantain it monitored. Hope this is going to be of any help!
Bye
Alex
So I have been looking for a way to say goodbye to AT&T's U-Verse and their terrible service/billing.
Now that I have a galaxy S3 and there is decent LTE coverage at home, I would like to use my Unlimited LTE as my main internet service.
This has worked out well tethering with FoxFi and I usually get around 15mb/s down / 6 mb/s up.
However I cannot figure out how to get incoming connections to uTorrent. I don't torrent very often but I like to maintain a good ratio and there are some things which I will seed forever, to make sure they are still available.
I haven't yet rooted my phone though I'm comfortable with it from prior experience. I wouldn't mind rooting it but if I can avoid it for the time being, why bother?
Has anyone had any trouble with Verizon and torrents on an unlimited plan? I don't use an exorbitant amount of data but I wonder about my privacy.
I would be very appreciative if someone could show me how to port-forward or otherwise open my phone to incoming connections from uTorrent through tethering. I have also considered using a VPN to increase my privacy, so if I could use that with my phone connection, I would be very happy.
Thank you to any who devote their time to my cause.
Sorry, I dont have a solution for you. but i would like to know the answer to this as well
i torrent just fine when tethering my Galaxy nexus on verizon (using PDAnet) i use about 20gigs a month or so and the max i ever went with it was 60gigs. but i have not torrent in a long time and have been using my tethering for WoW and L4D2 and downloading steam games
Whoa, you're on u-verse and having bad service and bill? Might want to shoot me a private message to talk about it and I can take a quick looksee of what's going on (I'm a tier 2 technical support agent for u-verse, and you wonder why I'm on Verizon Wireless )
Anyways, the only thing I've learned is that setting up utorrent on the phone is a pain in the ass but will work (been awhile since I've done it) but only when it's on 4G, if it's on the 3G network it won't let you do it (I can't point my figure on why).

Thanks for the consideration. I'll be in touch.
I tried to use uTorrent on my S3, but the private tracker I use only allows supported clients. There is no Android option available. I am going to suggest they add one, but in the mean time, I'm wishing I could run a Linux client on my phone or figure out a way to enable incoming connections over a WiFi/USB tether. Don't know where to start with that, though.
You might want to look at your computer's built in firewall. From my understanding of port forwarding it allows certain traffic to bypass a firewall to a specific client. I don't recall foxfi having any built in firewall so anything connected to it should be in a DMZ

The built in firewall doesn't block incoming connections when I am using my home wifi (I have set up port forwarding in the router). The only thing I change is that I connect to FoxFi and the port is no longer accessible from outside (no connections are being made to upload in uTorrent.)
BUMP?
Has Anyone gotten anywhere with this, I know its not a firewall somewhere down the line the port is getting blocked but all my firewalls are off....

You should see if they support tixati. I have had nothing but problems with utorrent in the past couple years. Tixati may not look superior at first but it has all the same options plus more. Probably what really draws me to tixati is it allocates the files before download.

I Started with OpenVPN, which worked OK, But was a PITA to setup, I eventually went to a free VPN through a website, and client configuration, They'd change the password daily, you just jump to the site, log-in get the new Password and your good to go, Speeds where about the same...
And It's been awhile, but I found out the the Issue was AT&T blocking certain websites (Including at the time, My Free Host for my Forum which is now on a VPS..) and have since moved to T-mobile....
Been Awhile and memory isn't as great as it was, Hope this is what you are looking for,

I've been having data connection issues for as long as I've had an activated Straight Talk SIM in the phone (about a week). Here's what's happening:
When I open an app or program that needs an active data connection, more often than not, data takes a while to start flowing. Often more than long enough for my screen to time-out before it connects. I have moderate signal strength, generally 2-3 bars, and the little H+ icon is there, so I'm assuming it's not a signal issue. Once data actually kicks in, it generally works fine for whatever time I'm actively using it. However, once i stop using it, and let the phone go back to sleep, it's a crap-shoot as to whether or not it'll connect quickly next time I need it to.
It doesn't seem to be a ROM-specific occurance, although it did seem a bit less likely to time-out when running stock Froyo. I've tried several different costom ROMs, a handful of different modems, and it never seems to make any real difference. I've also tried slight variations in the APN settings, to no apparent avail. Toggling airplane mode and/or rebooting don't seem to have any definite effect either. Sometimes data will connect quickly after a toggle/reboot, sometimes it makes no difference. It's like the phone just doesn't seem to 'know' that it's supposed to be transferring data.
Im having the same issue. My first month with ST was great really fast of course I went well over 2 GB so it slowed me down towards the end of the first month.Well I paid my next bill and still slow. They seem to be clueless when I call them oh your using an Infuse well I ordered the correct sim from there site they still clueless.Ive have tried about every rom out there just to see whats up and still the same issue.Hopefully someone here has the fix.
Im having the same issue nothin seems to work.

Turns out we're not the only ones..not by a long shot:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...t-Talk-has-upped-the-ante-on-throttling-users!
Since it's a frustrating exercise in futility to actually call and hope to get one of their script-reading robots that can speak some semblance of comprehensible English, I emailed them on their FB support page and started a claim ticket. Got the usual runaround about removing the SIM card and battery, do a hard reset, clear cache and cookies from browser, blah blah blah. It's kinda funny how I linked the CS rep to that thread on HoFo, and she's still not acknowledging that there's any type of widespread issue. SSDD with Straight Talk.
I just registered over on HoFo and was looking around their Straight Talk forum. I think someone may have found the answer to some of our data connectivity woes. It may be as simple as having to make a DNS change to compensate for an overly-crowded network. I downloaded DNS Changer from the Play Store, and changed my DNS settings to OpenDNS. It's a bit too early to tell if it's just random coincidence, or a real fix, but I AM getting much better connectivity so far. For some reason, it seems to work a little better if you actually use the ST proxy in your APN settings.
