[Q] How would I notice that EFS is faulty? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How? No signal, no IMEI? Or could it cause errors that are not so obvious?

Yep, the first two and no wifi cause you would have no mac adress.

Thanks. I am sometimes experiencing drops of my mobile network so I was afraid I could have somehow damaged the EFS when unlocking, rooting, flashing with wugfresh toolkit and twrp. First thing I did after unlock and root was backing up efs though.

There is no damaged efs. U either have it or you lost it. If you lost it luckily you have a backup. If not, rma.

Afraid not mate . Messing with the EFS is illegal in some countries - and there's not much we can do anyway. The only ones who can help you are the guys at LG - keep pestering them until they agree to rewrite your efs.
Why did you not flash your own number. It's on the box and inside the back cover of the phone. To use a friends is stupid and illegal. You can't have two phones with the same number. It's highly illegal.
2G Only
Well, Managed to get back my IMEI as one of the local repair guys injected it...donno how bust maybe using Octoplus Box....But now stuck with 2G only as if I try to switch to 3G/4G, it does not work and phone reboots. Bring it back to the repair shop. To riffbox it he would of had to solder some stuff to make it work. I'd bet that solder got somewhere it's not supposed to.

Interesting. He just used an IMEI switcher app then? Check and make sure your APNs are correct. That could cause loss of 4g but shouldn't ever cause the phone to reboot.

I checked my APNs and am using the same ones I had earlier. Reboot does not happen if I fix my connection to 2g...anyways, I read on XDA that flashing back my QCN file of any other D821 using QPST might solve this..I also have a file which this person shared. (QCN does not hold IMEI info but only NV backup). Can someone guide me whether this will work and if yes, how do I do it?

You may have to use the tools capable of flashing stuff to swap CDMA carriers to get AA passwords n stuff back. And its illegal to swap ESN/imei in some countries but i don't see harm in repairing what u broke as long as info is original to Device

That bill didn't pass but one like it did. I can't find it right now but you get the idea. FCC regs also allow for REPAIRING of it.
XDA however won't really allow any talk of how to do that because in some countries it is illegal. Plus they gotta cover their arse. So I'll just leave it it that.
No tampering with IMEI here
Thanks for the replies. But I am at all not wanting to tamper with my Imei.. Infact the imei is stable and fixed... I just want my 3g back... Rest of the phone is working perfectly fine

[Q] [Help] Random Reboots after Corrupted EFS partitions.

TL: My efs partition got screwed so my phone doesn't get service which is sad, But when I turn it on, after just working for a few minutes, it just reboots, which is very annoying, does anyone have a solution for this?
Long Version:
I was on the bus home when my phone went out of charge and died, after getting home I plugged it in, but it was stuck on a Loop, which led to me flashing a bunch of Kernels, and ROMs, later one ROM did work and the phone booted up, but my IMEI was gone so I knew my efs partition was screwed, and I just gave up, I still want to use my Nexus 5 as a normal but without the phone feature, which is somewhat okay,
and One weird problem that came to mind is I cannot install any ROM with version 5.0.2, it just won't boot up, but 5.0.1 is okay...but my phone just Reboots every 1-10 mins, I don't know what the problem is, and I don't know how to check whether or not its the power button, anyone have a good idea for solving this ?
You must have corrupted persist partition. Same as here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-bootloop-t3047895 the strange thing you both have is that you experience reboot. Are you on lollipop rom?
Also to fix persist follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-to-fix-persist-partition-t2821576

Try to flash cache.img in fastboot. If it still does not help, then your EFS is indeed corrupted. I wish I knew a method to fixing efs.

I have pretty much the same issue you do so I'm going to stay posted here.
Do you have an old TWRP backup?
Try to restore any TWRP backup you made of your phone.
Unless you unchecked If you checked that option before making the backup, the EFS partition should be present in the backup.
Best of luck

The efs is not gonna get fixed unless you have special tools for it, but the random reboots have spotted ever since I installed the Pure White ROM

Unfortunately I don't have such a back up, I do however have access to two other Nexus 5s, which i don't want to mess with their IMEI because google might block something and them getting screwed is a no-no...I don't know if my Phone service provider would mind if They see the same IMEI coming up on there system twice, but I don't wanna risk it..

Man that sucks
Lesson learned I guess, always make a full backup of your device in its original factory state when you buy it.

[Q] Other firmware on the same model

Can i flash other firmware of s4 on my phone (shv-e300s). For example, i want to flash shv-e330s lollipop or indian's lollipop firmware for my shv-e300s. Will it work? Does my network/signal will be removed or still stays? Thanks for answer.

It may work but there is no guarantee at all. Another region's firmware will include another modem version (May affect your signal / reception) and in some cases the partition table is different from the one your phone actually use, which means you can get trouble if you want to flash your region's firmware later. In any case make a backup of the phone's "EFS" partition to be sure your IMEI will not get lost and the phone become unusable.

"EFS" is one of the phones partitions storing somje data. You still can backup it, but thats not very usefull as the partition already got screwed up. With IMEI 0 you should not get any carrier signal // reception.

As long your phone is not usable for getting signal or accepting your simcard you will gain absolutely nothing my performing a EFS backup as there seems notghing on it that can be saved.

I'm really curious about it as your carrier will normally refuse establishing connections to simcard in a device with invalid IMEI but in that case backup your EFS.

IMEI=0 restore with QPST, provided a QCN is available?

First things first, I'm sorry for opening another thread on this but I feel the other ones weren't headed exactly in the correct direction.
A little background:
I was trying to downgrade my XT1541 to Lollipop since 6.0 was really bad and I got frustrated and used
Code:
fastboot erase all
The result was I erased my IMEI and I haven't been able to connect to a network carrier since. The problem can be solved by re-writing my IMEI but that's the difficult part.
What I gathered so far is I can use QPST, backup QCN, go into HEX and change IMEI there, then restore the QCN back to my device. The problem is I can't locate the IMEI in my QCN since my IMEI is now simply 0.
So in all, could someone make a backup of THEIR QCN and send it to me? I would flash it to my XT1541, locate the IMEI (since now I would know what I'm looking for), then change it back to my own.
Does that sound like something that could work? Can anyone help?
UPDATE1: Noone sent me their QCN however I did try to restore the one I backup up (which still has an IMEI=0). QPST Software Download reports
Received an invalid command from the phone.

I tried using Qualcomm NV Tools (from EFS Professional), which reads all the information correctly, however when attempting to write the following appears
Cannot Write: NV_UE_IMEI_I
Error: NV_ERR_BAD_SECURITY_STATE

So getting another QCN won't help as it seems that I can't write the IMEI (qcn) back to the device...
There are only two possibilities of fixing this... a 50/50 chance that a full factory flash will restore it (don't know how, but it does sometimes). If that doesn't work, then you need to send it to Moto for repair.

Well, unfortunately that leaves option 2... or turn it into a media play and buy a new phone.
Funny how `fastboot erase all` causes such a pain for some and not others... but once your IMEI is gone, there isn't much you can do. Moto kinda screwed the pooch on that one.

Illegal and unless you have genuine reason nobody will help or advise you.
Its not something you should do by any means....if you want to flash firmware then back up is essential.... But restoring or modification of your IMEI is not supported in fact i believe its prohibited

Backup efs partition
Efs backup restore problem
Efs I got a backup Nothing changes when I reload. What could be the reason for this?
Nothing will change if you just reload it ,you will bring back the same setting as you have.
The best way is to use the phone without sim card. If you dont want to be found or have problem if you found that phone.
But ,this is also illegal so there is a hard way that you will found how to do this.
