TL: My efs partition got screwed so my phone doesn't get service which is sad, But when I turn it on, after just working for a few minutes, it just reboots, which is very annoying, does anyone have a solution for this?
Long Version:
I was on the bus home when my phone went out of charge and died, after getting home I plugged it in, but it was stuck on a Loop, which led to me flashing a bunch of Kernels, and ROMs, later one ROM did work and the phone booted up, but my IMEI was gone so I knew my efs partition was screwed, and I just gave up, I still want to use my Nexus 5 as a normal but without the phone feature, which is somewhat okay,
and One weird problem that came to mind is I cannot install any ROM with version 5.0.2, it just won't boot up, but 5.0.1 is okay...but my phone just Reboots every 1-10 mins, I don't know what the problem is, and I don't know how to check whether or not its the power button, anyone have a good idea for solving this ?
You must have corrupted persist partition. Same as here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-bootloop-t3047895 the strange thing you both have is that you experience reboot. Are you on lollipop rom?
Also to fix persist follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-to-fix-persist-partition-t2821576

Yes I'm on a Lollipop rom, and I already applied the presist fix, it didn't change anything.
Did you try to flash stock google image?

Try to flash cache.img in fastboot. If it still does not help, then your EFS is indeed corrupted. I wish I knew a method to fixing efs.

Yes I already did, I have almost tried everything, short of sending it to repairs which I can't because where I live there is no such place.

I already did that...I know the efs is corrupted...the only fix i think is using something like Octoplus Box or something

I have pretty much the same issue you do so I'm going to stay posted here.
Do you have an old TWRP backup?
Try to restore any TWRP backup you made of your phone.
Unless you unchecked If you checked that option before making the backup, the EFS partition should be present in the backup.
Best of luck

The efs is not gonna get fixed unless you have special tools for it, but the random reboots have spotted ever since I installed the Pure White ROM

Unfortunately I don't have such a back up, I do however have access to two other Nexus 5s, which i don't want to mess with their IMEI because google might block something and them getting screwed is a no-no...I don't know if my Phone service provider would mind if They see the same IMEI coming up on there system twice, but I don't wanna risk it..

Do not try to restore an efs from another device. It won't work and you'll make your problem worse.

Man that sucks
Lesson learned I guess, always make a full backup of your device in its original factory state when you buy it.
Sorry for your loss

I would say no. I just remember some people doing this would and it replaced IMEI information from previous phone and could potentially screw up your new phone. What is so important that you need to restore for TWRP anyways. A fresh flash on a new phone is the best route to take my friend
We make too much of simply taken the time to restore and reset things on a new flash.

cool and yeah I know that but I just dont see the reason to take the risk at all. I see so many take shortcuts and then we have a million how do I fix this that and the third threads. Glad it worked for you
I was going to say yes even if I never tried it as nand only backs up system, boot and data which should be no problem to copy and paste to a same model phone...you tried it first by yourself so good move

Shouldn't be a problem part of restoring to stock on some other phones is flashing a twrp backup and stock recovery. It shouldn't be a problem atall
As long as your not restoring EFS your fine. I have done this many times on many different phones.
Hi everyone.
I have the following problem with a Nexus 5: During an update, the system crashed. The phone is now stuck in an endless bootloop, trying to install the update. When left long enough, the update screens eventually come up, but you are immediately blasted with a ton of errors and no matter what you do, you are unable to complete the update. This, however, is not the problem.
I have tried various utilities in order to flash the phone back to factory settings. I have made use of Unified Android ToolKit, as well as Nexus Root Toolkit, but a problem with the phone itself is preventing me from flashing it and the problem is as follows: I can access the phone via USB, as well as the bootloader, but when I unlock the bootloader to start the flashing, it immediately locks itself again and I'm unable to start the flash process.
I've searched for other instances in which the bootloader won't unlock, but I can't find any information. Is there perhaps a hardware problem preventing me from unlocking the bootloader or can someone help me find a solution to this problem?

If the lock state reverts on a reboot, 99 times out of 100, it means the internal memory has an issue. RMA.

No probs. Sounds like the update got stuck at the bootloader flash and corrupted. It's probably not a fatal NAND issue, rather corrupt partition or two but it usually means sending it in.
You can try the LG flashtool as a last resort before doing so though, as you never know...
You can find a link to it in the sticky thread in my signature. Best to stay away from actual "toolkits" though and either use fastboot manually or LG flash tool, although fastboot probably cant help you here - just saying for future ref...

I was stuck in the boot animation and when it opened there was a lot of system errors and it would reboot by itself over and over again.
what fixed it was to do a wipe cache and dalvik and reinstall it

Dalvik cannot break your bootloader. Your only option was use lg flashtool and if that failed, RMA. Let's not get false hopes and waste time not doing this.

i thought about LG FLASHTOOL but decided to try reinstaling the rom cuz i had no other option since i forgot to leave a backup rom on the device. So I did it as if I was installing a brand new rom Wiped dalvik, cache and system then reflashed the rom and then the gapps. Even tho it was the same ROM file I had a different outcome. It's working fine now but I did go back to the nightlies after it started working again just to be safe.
Now... people may have a different outcome when trying to solve this issue but this actually worked for me after having a minor heart-attack thinking I was gonna lose all my stuff

Yes, but your issue is different to the OP's. His bootloader lock state reverts whenever he changes it. This is a pretty much "fatal" issue. What you did cannot help him unfortunately.

Hi guys! I've looked all around and tried the fixes that people recommended, which is basically going back to stock.
So this is what happened to my brother's phone:
Was using the phone and all a sudden the phone freezes (He was on Android L) and he rebooted it. After rebooting, the phone went into bootloop. He downloaded some program that supposedly fixes softbrick and bootloop (by flashing stock ROM) Nexus Root Toolkit v1.8.7.
The phone was fixed.. Kinda.. He couldn't get any cell signal. Turns out his baseband and IMEI read unknown. He has the box the phone came in, to we know the physical IMEI number.
Is there a fix for this? I've tried this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/lost-imei-please-help-t2529103 but it didn't work.
Any ideas?

Check out my thread about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-to-fix-persist-partition-t2821576. It worths a try. If it does not help then you have to buy a new motherboard or claim your warranty if you have any.

Then it is up to you what are you going to do with the persist partition. You will lose nothing but time by formating the persist partition. If it not fix your problem then you have to buy a new motherboard for the phone to make phone calls either way because you dont have any efs backup.

It would be nice if you would post how did you solve your issue. Some will learn and it could help others having the same issue.
So let me start by saying I am 100% a noob, and I have read many threads trying to get to the bottom of my problem to no avail. I am sorry if there is a solution for my problem somewhere, I've been working on this issue for 24 hours and have yet to find it.
My girlfriend was apparently using google maps on here relatively new phone (running 5.0.1) and it crashed. Upon restarting it was stuck on the coloured dots screen for several hours. She has not installed any third party apps, only those from the playstore and not too many of them at that.
I tried factory reset and received a bunch of errors about failing to load the E:// or something like that. The phone still would not boot up.
I downloaded minimal fastboot thinger on my windows 8.1 laptop and tried to flash a new image of 5.0.1 on it, IIRC I received errors about E:// again
Got Wugfresh NRT and tried TWRP wiped all (still saw some stuff about E:// failing to mount and such) then tried to unroot flash stock with soft brick/bootloop checked.
Still bootlooped for over an hour when I started it up.
Tried flashing 4.4.4 instead. It worked. Phone booted up. Gallery/Camera do not work however at this point. Tried updating to 5.0.1.... phone restarted bootloop for 8 hours and counting.
Flashed 4.4.4 again, Followed Full Driver Installation Guide in NRT exactly. Tried Flash Stock + Unroot with Device is on/Normal checked this time instead. Now it has been colored dots screen for about 20 minutes.
So I can load 4.4.4 but no matter how I've tried to install lollipop 5.0.1, it stays on booting screen forever.
What do?
Thank you so much in advance and apologies for being a noob.
EDIT: More googling today. Looks like my E:/Persist partition is corrupted or something, trying to figure out how to repair it right now.

If I can bet it must be a corrupted persist partition. Lollipop will not boot if its gets corrupted but kitkat will do. If you could tell what is the actual error you see in twrp or cwm recovery then we could identfy the actual problem. But I am 90% sure the mount error is about persist partition.

Alright so I am definitely having problems running adb shell. even if I change the directory in cmd to my adb.exe location (android\android-sdk\platform-tools) I keep getting the error adb shell is not a recognized blah blah blah....
NVM got it working. Whenever I get frustrated enough to make a post I end up finally finding a solution.
ALRIGHT I have Lollipop up and running thanks to your guide on fixing persist partition. Thank you so much! Question: I have a nexus 5 and it does not have an sd card. I'm not sure how to proceed in doing the steps you described involving mac addresses. I did use a hex editor and make those files, but not sure where to put them in my phones internal storage, and how to direct adb to said location. Any help with that?

Just copy them to the root of your internal storage, then follow the guide.
I mean you just open the phone's internal storage from your PC and you dont open any folder. You just copy it there.
The guide is for nexus 5, but some people refer to the internal storage as sdcard too. I know it is a bit confusing. Thanks to point it out. I will make clear in my guide now.
AH I see ok I will do that tonight. Ran in to another problem though it may be related to the mac address thing I haven't done yet, not sure how that all works. The phone randomly restarts every few minutes and it won't connect to the carrier either. Also if it matters I left the boot loader unlocked for now until the phone is working properly, if that affects anything.

The lock state of the bootloader does not matter, but this random reboots after a few minutes is something to worry about. Your phone should not do that after formating persist partition.

Should I try formatting it again?

Give another try formating persist, but I am here now. So, if you want I can do everything for you through teamviewer. You just have to send the log in informations to my email address.

Ok so i will try to go straight to the point.
I got OnePlus 7 that i bought from Aliexpress (8gb and 256gb) the thing is that im almost 90% sure this phone is defective.
You can use teh phone correctly for about 2 days then all of a sudden it will freeze completely and then you CANT do absolutely anything else, not even turn it off by holding power button ..
So i just left it there until it ran out of battery.
Then i charge while inside the fastboot and when i try to boot it is in a boot loop , doesnt even go into the boot animation
and to make things even more interesting i tried to wipe data guess what? The phone screen suddendly started blinking until again it ran out of battery. (you could see for a split of a second every time the screen blinks the progress bar of the wipe but it never moved from initial point).
So yea at this point is pretty obvious that something is wrong so i bought a Mi9T Pro meanwhile but i dont want this phone to go to waste.
Anyone out there has a clue of what could be? I wanna attempt to fix it myself if possible.
Aliexpress just gave a bit of the money back and the company Hongkong Goldway didnt give a f and they even go as far as to pretend they don't know what i'm saying ( the language barrier when it beneficial for them ).
This was gonna be a short explanation but i guess it was neccesary to be this long to explain correctly whats going on.
BTW: the only way yo make the phone work again for 2 days mayebe 3 is by using the MSM tool , any other method doesnt work.
also when it was working i filled the whole 256gb to kinda check the internal memory for corruption but it actually filled up without any problem so idk .
The problem isn't the phone, the problem is you. Clearly you stuffed the phone up yourself by trying to mod/root it and now you have ruined it further by flashing incorrect images to the device.
You shouldn't be coming to XDA when the fault is entirely on you, I've seen it all before.
@PriPhaze is your device stock(bootloader locked) or modified in any way?

Clearly you don't know what you saying so you are not the person I'm looking for but "thanks" for such "helpful" respond.

Hi, the device is unlocked right now. I didn't install any other ROM other than OOS.

Thank you for the reply. Is the bootloader just unlocked or do you have installed anything like twrp, magisk or others?
Which version of OxygenOS do you have?

Ahh yes twrp was installed but now it's inaccessible .
After the phone freezed I can no longer use twrp.
Also yes magisk was installed to restore my apps using swift backup.
OOS version is the last one available.

It might be a good idea to use unbrick tool and clean flash the stock OxygenOS, recovery and remove root to see if it behaves better.

I did, same behaivor ; in 2 days more less it will freeze and reboot and then system will be gone.
And so i need to use MSM tool again to get it back running. The only thing i have not tried is to use a custom ROM insetad of OOS

Maybe I did not understand correctly: Did you tried the stock rom without unlocking the bootloader and magisk? Or did you immediately unlock and install magisk immediately and then test?
The stock rom is stable and should work, otherwise a hardware issue can be the problem why you have those issues.

Yea tried with locked bootloader and then unlocked .
So yea maybe i wasn't clear enough but what i meant with the first post is that im 90% sure that here is a hardware issue but i dont really know what could be and there is not repair service in my country.
Thats why the only option i have left is to figure out what is wrong and change that part.
Iwas hoping someone could guide me to figure out which part i need to change.

Hmm, I can't tell you which part to exchange cause it can be the processor, flash for example which you cannot exchange. Battery might be an option, but that's not really the culprit imo...

Well in any case the cpu and internal memory are in the same board no? so that probably means i would need to change the whole board wich is 250US

Yes, everything is on board. It's the worst case for, sadly...
Or you buy a device with broken screen and exchange the board /display. Depends how much you have to spent for this at all.

Ah yes, the common misconception that power shuts it off. Nope, not this phone. You have to hold power and volume up together to power off the phone when it crashes. Make sure you're using the latest platform tools (adb/fasboot) to unlock your phone. Make sure oem unlocking is enabled in developer settings after you've unlocked, having it disabled for some reason does screwy things. Mine was disabled once when I downgraded to Android 9 using the all in one tool available on xda, I thought I bricked the phone because it wouldn't boot after a reboot. Flash the latest oos twice through the system local upgrade feature, this will put the current oos on all partitions. Use the correct twrp, the unified versions found on xda 3.3.1-75 and 3.3.1-76 work well for me. The installer zip for those can be used in magisk to flash twrp after an OTA update before reboot. So, local upgrade 100% -> magisk modules "+" twrp 3.3.1-75 unified installer zip -> reboot to recovery -> flash magisk 20.3 at least (20.4 is available now). Do this twice so that everything is the same version on all the partitions. Lastly restore apps with swift backup without data, I know it's not ideal but may be necessary because some app's data may be corrupt and causing this. Good luck. Of course at any time you have it running you can reboot in safe mode (touch and hold restart until the dialogue pops up) and see how long you can use it without any third party apps to confirm that it is an app you installed.
Man I had the exact same problem as you and I got it fixed this morning after nights of fastboot commands trial and error found this thread forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-t3937478
Tried a few times before it worked but saved my phone all I had was fastboot mode and no recovery make sure to manually flash all fastboot commands you will then get stock recovery back wipe using all 3 options go 1st 2nd 3rd and then 1st wipe again after reboot phone might hang just force reboot and fixed
I really appreciate all the replies really but hmm im guessing there's a misunderstanding on what im saying.
I do know how to flash and recover one plus devices using MSM tool if neccesary, also to flash the fastboot rom .
The thing here is that everytime i recover the phone and all seems stable and working good , after a2 days more less it will random freeze of death and you cant even reboot holding power button NOTHING! is completely freezed.
So yea, thats pretty much it, i have tried already all that you said so far :c.
