I haven't seen these concerns mentioned anywhere else, so I'm sorry if it's a duplicate.
I updated to KB1 on the 24th. Yesterday & today, I have noticed unusual battery drain. The battery manager says that my screen has drained 83% of my battery (my battery total is 41%) from a 100% charge. My phone has been on for 7 1/2 hours and the display has bren on for 1 hour, 16 minutes. This just seems like an unusually high amount of drain compared to JH1. Do I need to let the battery stats reset after the update by draining the battery and charging it a few times?
Second issue... Whenever I was using my phone, the back was getting VERY toasty near the SIM and SD slots. I ejected my external SD and the heat has not returned. The same SD card has been used for several months with JH1. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Can't say as I have noticed any heat but I can relate about the display using a high percentage of battery on the phone. I am also typically not showing anything else using the battery other than idle, standby, voice calls, and Wi-Fi. Now for example I am at 10 hours of use, have 62% battery left, and was using the music player for a while at work, updated and downloaded apps from the marketplace, shot some HD video and stills, sent some texts, checked some FB, did some GPS tests, etc. I don't know if 2.2 stock is just very efficient (went about 36 hours before charging and still had over 25% left this morning) and so the only thing using the battery is the display but it seems like it just isn't reporting everything to me. Maybe a few more days of use, a full drain or two, etc and it might start reporting correctly if it isn't already.
Battery is normal, I have noticed some heat though...even went as far as to turn my phone off for an hour today because of it.
I thought it was just me, but I noticed batt drain too

Yeah, I am starting to think the official 2.2 is a major flop. I had high hopes, but so far it just hasn't delivered to my expectations.

I also feel like it isn't telling me everything that is using battery. Since the update, I'm only seeing Display (always on top), wi-fi, and cell standby.
To add to the SD heat issue, the media scanner has been running for about 5 minutes now and still says that 0% has been scanned in the notification bar.

I can't say I have had any issues with the media scanner taking an unusual amount of time. I have over 1000 songs, about 6 full length movies, photos, music videos, etc, and I can't say it ever runs more than about 20 seconds or so.
Just plugged my phone in and didn't notice any heat, but was still only showing display, wifi, standby, voice calls, and idle. Battery life itself though is still good (at least good enough for me - 24 hours + on a single charge with moderate use). I have been stock since I bought the phone back in August.

Go into MyFiles and delete your Android folder then reboot. Sometimes the media scanner freezes due to the cache in the Android folder.
I've also been having a lot of battery issues. Twice today my phone died within 2 hours of being off the charger. The first time was 1 hour and 15 minutes with sending and receiving 2 texts. The second time was 1 hour and 45 minutes, no texts. I didn't have GPS, Wifi, or Bluetooth on and didn't use the phone except for those texts. I used to get a full 14 hours + out of my phone before updating to froyo!

Is there any sort of side-effect when deleting that cache folder? The scanner also hasn't been running since a reboot so that may have been a fluke.

I also am experiencing terrible battery life. On jh1 with heavy use I would have to put the phone on the charger which was expected but it would be fine for the rest of the day without any problem. Now I'm having to live off of a charger. I haven't experienced heat issues but I haven't had my SD card in either.
Another issue I've been wondering about other people having is sending MMS. Before the update I done this without any problems at all, now I am very lucky to send one. I read somewhere that the MMS limit was actually smaller after the update, though I have no proof of this. I was just trying to send a couple 2-4 second audio clips that can't be larger than a few KB.
I had a Droid Incredible before this and was root doing everything under the sun with it, when I got this phone I didn't feel the need as much. This update has proved me wrong and I will be jumping on a custom ROM real quick like.

I decided to completely drain my battery. It died after 2 hours of screen use (over the day) with texting, web browsing, a check-in or two on Foursquare & Gowalla (no GPS,) and a little gaming. Display, Wi-fi, & Cell Standby were the only listed items for battery drain. I don't understand!
I just bought a Captivate and updated to 2.2. I also have a quick drainging battery issue. Are the phones defective or are all of them likes this ?
Ive noticed that randomly some apps seem to get "hung" and use massive amounts of battery. I've noticed it with maps, paypal and chrome so far.
For example, I'll use the paypal app, exit and put my phone in my pocket, a couple of hours later I'll check my battery stats to find that paypal counts for 30% of my battery consumption, and continues to do so until I force close the app.
Has anyone else had this? I don't think its hardware issue since It's happened on both my first device which I RMA'd, and my replacement device. It seems to happen randomly.

That happened to me with Venmo. It showed up as like 40% one day after I made one transaction. I force closed it, and the problem went away.
Lots of people are having problems with Google Services, now. This thread had more info on that problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519831
My mother has a T-mobile XT1034 and gets terrible battery life recently. Yesterday she only received a handful of texts. made no phone calls, she plays no games on her phone. It was down to 50% in the afternoon.
Yes google play services seems to be the cause. But what can I do for it besides turning off all location settings?
I'm not going to root her phone.
Does anyone have an idea?

Rebooting might work for a bit for background services.
Turning off google voice's always listening service.
Try enabling/disabling the battery saver (opposite of current)
Full discharge and recharge.
This thread might help
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/97321/p/30,6720,9050
Also unistall/disable use less app, also try battery saver like ds battery saver or greenify apps, if problem persist try to factory reset the phone
I ended up turning off location services and that seems to have done it. I'm hoping they roll out 4.4.4 or L quickly and maybe that will help.
thanks everyone!

I have a Galaxy S6 fro Rogers in Canada (no root) and I recently updated from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 and my battery life has gone to crap, my usage patterns and apps remain the same as before. Previously I would get about 4 hours SoT, 5 on a good day. Now I can barely get 2.5 hours SoT. I have no other problems with this phone, none of the RAM issues, lagging, or over heating other people have mentioned, my only problem is the poor battery life.
The apps are primarily use are Facebook, Puzzle and Dragons, Messenger, and Chrome, I realise that these are battery guzzlers but 2.5 hours is ridiculous and I used to get more using the same apps. I typically start using my phone around 8am from 100%, and by 5pm after 2.5 hours SoT it is around 20% battery life, previously it would hit 20% around 11pm with about 4 hours SoT. No apps are draining a particularly large amount according to GSAM.
To reiterate the things I have done to improve my battery life are:
1. disabling unused apps in application manager
2. setting brightness to lowest setting on auto
3. restarting phone
4. restarting phone in safemode
5. clearing cache
6. performing a factory reset after updating to 5.1.1
7. leaving wifi gps off when not in use (but I'm not constantly turning it on and off either)
8. Greenifying apps I use less than once a day (but anything with push notifications is not Greenified)
Additionally I have not moved or anything and reception in my area has always been decent. Any suggestions for what else I should do? My phone is still under warranty, should I send it to a service centre? Or should I try rooting it an actually deleting bloatware and having an ad blocker (though this would void the warranty...).
Please advise! I am very frustrated with this battery life.
Im having the same issue after updating the GS6 on Wind (Canada) to 5.1.1. Terrible battery life and Android OS draining battery as well. I barely get 2.5 SoT.
I'll join this unfortunate crew. I have to charge everyday before leaving work in order to get through the day.
Take off the charger at home when I leave and by the time I get to work(30-40 min drive) I'm at ~95%. By lunch I'm down to around 50%.
Hoping Android M fixes some issues
Clear cache in storage option and reboot! It will very slightly improve!

http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Android/thread-id/31962/page/32 Read through the last 6 or 8 pages over there. A lot of unhappy people with Rogers right now using the S6. I'm in the same boat. Crappy cell service, times it will show bars of 4G but then tell me there is no network connection. Try to make a call with full bars at 4G and it will say not registered on network. Text messages being sent and received twice automatically. No connection at all in places my HTC used to have 4G if not LTE. I had to send my S6 away for camera repair for a week so I pulled back out my old HTC M8 for that time and my connection was stable and awesome everywhere just like I thought it should be. Now that I'm back on my S6 it's barely hanging onto EDGE in places I had full 4G bars on the HTC like at my desk at work. Places I spend a lot of time at.
I suggest you call Rogers and talk to the tech support. Tell them your issues. The more complaints the faster the issue will be resolved. It sounds wide spread so don't waste your time trying to fix it yourself.

Thanks for the link, I didn't think to check the Rogers forums, I'll call their tech support to let them know of my issues and hope they are working on something.
I also have this issue. I was able to make it through an 8hr work day before the update. Now it's down to 10% or to completely dead. My usage at work did not change. Sucks that I have to plug my phone into my car just to get enough juice to make the drive home.
Just to confirm are you guys all now on 5.1.1 and is battery life the only issue you are experiencing?
I talked to a rep with my carrier (Rogers) and he said that the known issues were to do with connectivity (calls, data), but not with battery. He said battery issues that could not be resolved by a reset should sent in for service.

There was some discussion in various places about cell standby being a HUGE drain on the battery when connected to WIFI.
My issues are data and call related. I've never been one to care that much about battery but it does seem off from what I'm used too and I'm seeing some long times on the mobile radio being active.
I think it's safe to say that all of this stems for the 5.1.1 update. Cell reception "problems" can lead to big battery drains and if our phones are having issues staying in tune with the towers, it could cause big battery drain.
Keep an eye on what might be causing your battery drain though. It might be something silly like an app trying to do something.
I have also noticed a sharp drop in battery life now that I'm on 5.1.1.
USA AT&T.
I'm really at a loss. GSAM says "Android System" under apps as well as "Phone Radio" are the highest drain.
Did anyone encounter the same problem??
Two 5ii of mine are draining too fast this month.
I don't think it's a hardware problem, but a software problem.
Anyone??

I noticed that too for a week.
It must have been some Google service update that generated a lot of unusual wakelocks.
In my case, it's gone and back to normal.
reboot your device just in case
Same here as I texted this. I've getting SOT like less than 4 hours per day even I've restricted battery on some apps and restricting background data. However the issue still persists.
Kinda agree with the Google Service Update thingy since after some play store or updates installed and the battery drainage is just absurd.
Also throttling the CPU a lot and temperature is higher than usual, almost achieving 40°C in just usual social media, browsing and working.
Worst is that I've reboot in safe mode, and multiple restarts and is still draining battery vigorously.
Hope some software or google updates can solve this issue quickly.
From my experience (see my previous post) i had the problem for about 1 week and then it went away.
And lately, I'm getting the best-ever deep sleep battery consumption during night: ~3% .
I did not tweak any app battery policy in settings and I'm using stock A12 latest update.
You may have some rogue app update that is not in tune with the correct power management posture.
I have the same issue. It seems to have been triggered by poor network connectivity or something. The first time I had this issue, I had to solve it via software repair. I'm not keen to go through the process for the second time. I have shut down and restarted my phone several times.
There have been a number of posts on Reddit recently about massive battery drain with Sony phones.
Here and here and here and here
Seems like it's a Sony Vs Google problem
I have had the same huge battery drain, with my phone going from lasting two days between charges, to now getting hot and lasting just 15 hours
When I look at running apps, I see Gooogle Play Services has 2 or 3 instancnces. Some with 13 services. In the last two weeks Play Services has used 825Mb of data. Feels like my phone has become an AV transmitter.
Hello guys, today I noticed that the battery is finally back to normal. I turned on auto-update for everything and let it update whatever it needs to at the very first place.
Hope this kind of **** don't happen ever again.
I don't have auto-update and that issue only lasted a few days
