What apps has ART (android runtime) broke? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For me, ART made the generic quadrant test score go from 8k+ to 11k+, everything works fine so far except YouTube hd playback, its jittery. What are your experiences?

As of now, we know of whatsapp and foursquare.

ART also breaks Titanium Backup, which is why I'm not using it yet

Go to http://androidruntime.com to get the list of all broken apps.

Ok I found this amazing app (in my opinion lol) and I thought I might as well share it out if anyone's missed it. It's wp7 music player in beta stage but the fluidity and the looks is really good already. Not a single lag. Try it
Another music player made by the same dev has better SQ than powerAMP btw.

does this app have auto resume playback after a call? the music player in cm7 is missing this feature (or i haven't figured out where to enable it) but its driving me crazy that its missing that feature.
Cannot find the app, please provide apk

Its from the Guy who's doing the WP7 port that got closed down on here. Shiny player, nice

I havent checked it but since its a beta app im guessing no. Use poweramp for that

What..? This is a paid app even though it's in beta stage? That's weird. Well, I'm curious to know more about this app. Too bad I don't have an online paying method.

I am curious, sounds like a good player, could you explain how the sound quality is better than power amp

He's talking about Better Music Player. There's a trial version you can try out in market.

Yh it's Better Music EQ and it's only better in terms of SQ. What I find better with this music player's tweaks i.e. EQ, bass boost, virtualizer etc is that it doesn't distort the music sound as much as powerAMP. So it's much easier to get clearer sounds with natural deep bass with crisp treble. The virtualizer, if used properly, can widen the soundstage without affecting other sounds
I believe he's talking about zplayer which is a zune player port from the zune or Windows phone 7, I dnt believe its the one u r talking about

trying it right now, had few force closes when going back from homescreen to the player. sound quality is on par with my current mixzing player IMO.
lack settings menu. some cover art cannot be read.
overall still quite a nice option player

Have you checked media playback compatibility? As I understand it, stagefright removes support for a lot of media formats.

try changing the http to false, then try streaming again.
I noticed less buffering and clearer music (ie pandora, movies, anything streamed)
on some phones that breaks youtube.com mobile site but not the app. doesn't appear to break it on the infuse though
That's actually something I have been doing for a while now. The others I enabled but really noticed no difference enabled vs disabled other than quadrant increase.

it has always been my experience with Samsung gb that stagefright breaks .flac .mkv h264 .wav and a few others. i haven't tested on the infuse. it may just break. mkv and not all h264. the quadrant increase is likely due to an increase in h264 decoding speed and nothing else but it might be misreporting something or stagefright might not work with the Samsung movie player or the Samsung rom yet still apparently work in quadrant.
it shouldn't be a problem in cm7 where some formats need a 3rd party app that would be supported buy the Samsung app.

Seems to handle some higher resolution vids better... I can watch youtube videos at 720p with no lag... 1080p is a chopfest though
The reason i posted this question was.
People complianed that Flash Player 10.3 makes the experience very sluggish.
So, many have reverted to 10.2 including me.
That is why wanted know how 11 fares in our phones.
11 is much better...jhaste was right on the money

Choppy video performance

Did anyone notice a choppy video playback using YouTube app on the N5?. I tried my Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 playing HD videos on youtube , it is choppy on my N5 where it is smooth on my N4.I did not try other video players.

Yeah, that's what I notice too. I mean, the video looks stunning, but it doesn't seem to be running smoothly at all.
I ran it side by side with my iPhone 4S, and my iPhone played the video much smoother overall. I thought I was just seeing thing until it reached one part in the video where the same kid in the video raising his hand to point at the sky. The arm movement right there was noticeably unnatural in the Nexus 5, compare to my iPhone 4S's playback.
Does anyone know an app that can show you what the currently playing video's fps is?
I have not experienced this... well I haven't notice it if it is choppy

Do you have any other smartphones that is capable of playing youtube videos? Pull the same video up across both both phones and start the playback at the same time.
Better yet, compare it against your PC browser.

I hope it's just some optimization problem that can be fixed with software update(s). I'd really hate to return this phone back, but it's quite a deal-breaker for someone like me who uses the phone as an on-the-go multimedia player.
Are there any alternative apps that can play HD youtube videos smoothly?

Sometimes these issues are also caused by user settings like what and how many apps or widgets running in the background, Google syncronisation interval and what apps connect to the internet etc etc.

Well, there are people like me and you who notice the "stuttering" (I wouldn't call it choppy, because still frames are just as clear as my 4S). Then, there are others that say it does not stutter even in the slightest.
I don't know what to believe in anymore.
Maybe the YouTube app isn`t fully optimsed for KitKat yet.
hmm I can only just notice it - though if I wasn't looking for it I doubt I'd notice it

Probably a good test would be download the video using for example tubemate, then play the local copy this would help determine whether network latencies are contributing to any lags or if caused by decoding the video if it occurs when local copy.
Then try hw vs Sw decoding.
Will test when I ve got time.

yeah its very stuttery. Whats worse the youtube app doesn't seem to be able to get 1080p and 720 upscaled looks atrocious. Playing the same video on my 2 year old One XL and this phone, the Nexus is so much worse in terms of stutter, upscaling and color that I'm very disappointed at the moment.

Screen record with audio?

Okay so I looked all over xda, play store, xposed downloaded , Mahdi customization and pimp my ROM. I can't find anything that allows audio for screen recordings. I got this really cool megaman thing going on with my n5. Wallpapers and colors and sounds. I wanted to record it with the sound on. Any pointers?

I noticed it was recording via microphone so maybe it will capture the audio you want. Just dont sneeze cause you'll have to start again

That ^^ and I do know that ROM's have incorporated Audio Recording with Screen Recording. The original commit was made for ChameleonOS so they definitely have it. Other ROM's have it built in as well. As for which ones, you will have to do some research
I'll try the app. I'm currently running Mahdi. Good stuff. I'll read up on the Dev pages. Hope I find it baked in if the app doesn't work.

Or you can just plug a line in from phone to PC and record the audio then mix together.
That's how i usually do it.
This is an old video from my HTC one x.
I had to use a video recorder for the video because there want any way to record android video on the tegra3 soc at the time but I just used the headphone Jack to line in on pc to record and then mix together and you get something like this.
