On my Nexus 5, WiFi is fine downstairs near the router (BT Hub 3).
But upstairs in my room where I usually am, speeds are very very slow. Less than 1mbps. On my N4 & N10 speeds are fine in my room like the rest of the house, but my nexus 5 is getting bad speeds.
What is the issue? What can I do? I've tried changing WiFi to 2.4ghz only but no such luck.

I'm on cm9 on my ns4g and I get weak wifi even at 10 feet from my router. I have tried all kernels and most roms (ics and gb) and all radios. Anyone know a fix

are you serious ? 10 feet , like 3,4 meters ???
may i ask , how many walls in this 3,4 meters between you and router?

What do you speed test at? I often show 1-2 bars of wifi less than 10 feet from my router but you wouldn't know it downloading anything or doing anything over wireless.

Don't kill me. Why would my wife's iPhone 5 get much better scores on speedtest.net with the same server. I'm getting 5 where she is getting 23.

Same server but same location?

I would assume so. I'm holding both phones, choose the corpus Christi server, and hit begin test at the same time.
I'm assuming it's hardware, the antenna or something.

Anyway to compare the actual reception numbers? Inside my house using the nearest server I get around 5000kbps download and my signal strength is -108dBm 32 asu, that's 2 bars on the display. At my friends apartment where I can practically spit on the cellular antenna I'm so close I get max bars and over 60,000kbps down I didn't take note of what my actually numbers were in regards to signal strength on that one.
Hello there,
I compared the Nexus 5's YouTube playback with a Nexus 4 and an iPhone 5s, and it feels as though the video on the N5 is pixelated and choppy. Are any of you guys seeing problems in YouTube quality?
Yes I do. YouTube seems choppy.

It probably needs to be updated

Are you on WiFi or 3g?
I noticed a similar problem when I was on WiFi.
Then I ran a speed test on my network... Now, I usually get around 38 Mbps on my laptop... but my N5 was like 1.5mbps max... I went in to advanced wifi settings and changed it from "auto" chanel mode, to just 2.4ghz mode, and then changed my wifi routers chanel... I'm now getting around 27mbps on wifi and youtube is great

Thanks for the reply. I am on WiFi, and I changed to 2.4ghz mode to see if it made a difference. Sadly, it didn't help at all.
NOOOOO! I get all OCD over things like this.

I hope so. My next door neighbor also bought a N5, so i'll compare share the results.
Is anyone else able to confirm their signal strength has decreased?

I'm planing on changing my router for a new one that has ac wireless. Before I RMA my nexus 5 for that damn WiFi drop issue I thought it was time to try a New router but I would like to know who has a router with ac wireless and if you have any WiFi drop. So very easy.
Router manufacturer make and model.....
WiFi drop yes/no
Thanks

I use a Asus RT-AC66R and love it. Never had an issue with any device. No drops either.

Mine is no AC wireless but its certainly better than those Asus AC High performance routers
what I like is a balance between Coverage and performance a company called Amped Wireless In the USAMakes these types of routers not some cheap china/korean stuff
What I have is this http://www.ampedwireless.com/products/r20000g.html
It's got dual signal amplifiers each antenna port is outputting 600Mw of power that's face melting wifi right there. Most routers don't even output 100Mw. Routers with internal antennas put out only like 50Mw and have no signal noise filters.
So overall my router is a bit overkill but somehow my Nexus 5 manages to drop the connection lol... my other devices don't exhibit such behavior though.
I'm guessing this is software and I'll wait till Android 4.5 comes I have a year anyway from LG to RMA
Netgear Nighthawk R7000.

Cheap Netgear... About $100
Screenshot is in my backyard about 60 to 70 feet away. I have no WiFi signal drop.

Did you check what channel your routers using or if there's a conflict with a nearby router on the same channel. My wife's Macbook pro couldn't hold a WiFi signal from 6 feet away yet every other device in our house had no problems. What I did was took the router off auto and set it to use a specific channel that no other routers within a couple hundred feet where using. Now the MBP has been rock solid since. Turns out me and two neibors were all on channel 6. All my Asus Transformers where real sensitive to signal also.

Haha switching my channel also increased the coverage lol the amplifier is now at full 600Ma where it used to be only 350

Try different channels anyway.. Different device radios react to differently to frequencies
Its free and can't hurt

Does anyone have the new 5ghz wifi routers? How well does it do with the Nexus 5? Does our phone even support 5ghz?

It certainly does. You can force it to 2.4 or 5Ghz.
I had to force 2.4Ghz on the phone with my old Wireless G router or speeds were compromised.

Anyone having trouble seeing some AC channels? I had a launch day N5 that had no problem connecting to ch 153 on my Netgear Nighthawk running DD-WRT. I sold that N5 months ago and now have bought another N5. This one won't "see" my AC network unless it's set to a channel under 48. Even wifi analyzer shows that I have a limited 5 GHz channel range. My S4 connects just fine. Do your N5's see higher 5 GHz channels?
See the photo below. I only see my neighbor's wifi 5G network and the graph stops at 44.
EDIT: Fixed it. It seems changing my extension channel has fixed the issue. I now see the network. N5 seems to not support all AC channels listed in my DD-WRT channel settings.
