Grey signal bars with data - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my Nexus 5 today and the signal bars have been grey all day. I still have Data but this bothers me. Does anybody else have this?

Kit Kat Google made it gray. No more blue, which I miss.

I liked the blue as well. Maybe some upcoming Roms will have the feature to change it.

I think that if it's green the wifi is in use. If it's grey then it's enabled but in standby. I dunno for sure, but i think that way
it's white when iddle or shortly no reception

Green: wifi established and connected/syncing to google services
Grey: wifi established but not connected to goog services/syncing, internet/network should still work

green is connected to data and google.
white is connected to data only.
grey is not connected to data or google.
hasnt this been asked like a bazillion times? i think its up in the FAQ sticky at the top.

Keyboard and other elements shadowing normal?

Hi,
My nexus s is new and since day 1 i just use it with 0 brightness.after hours of exploring, i noticed that when i open up the keyboard for more than 10secs and drag down the notification bar the keyboard boxes can still be clearly seen.its like a shadow of the keyboard imprinted in the notifiaction.noticed this in market as well when searching for apps the keyboard shadow can be clearly seen.also more than 5 sec static on your homescreen, after that i drag down i can clearly see the icons shadows in the grey notifocation bar. Is this normal? All of you have this behavior when on 0 brightness?or do i have a weak display?its kind of annoying sometimes.

Its sort of a burn image. The blues fade out and get a yellow haze. You can test this by displaying a blue image for example google image blue and zoom in. Auto brightness and sleeping the ohone when not using will keep the colors rich. I had a vibrant that did the same thing.

Sucks but it cant be fixed without replacing the phone/screen

Are you using voodoo colors?

Sure am. I would not use this phone if i had to stay with the stock washed out colors.

Black line in screen???

Ok so after having this phone for over a month. The I'm watching a movie for the first time and I notice when the screen goes black in the movie there is a black line in the screen you can only see it on black screens or very dark gray screens. I have never dropped my phone.I'm just wondering does anyone else have this? and what is it from? The screen has to be pure black. I notice if there is white text near it its harder to see.

Yes others have had similar issues. Its a common problem with our phones, you can try and get a replacement but your gambling on getting another with the same issue.

I had this issue. Verizon replaced it and so far so good.

Notification bar turns grey

I am not a n00b about stuff but I still don't understand why sometimes when I open an app like this one or chrome the notification bar turns grey... any ideas? Not that its a problem just curious. Don't do it every time

The entire notification bar...? Or just the 3g/wifi/signal bars?
If the color of the signal is changing (blue vs. gray) this indicates connectivity to the internet... or, more specifically, connectivity to Google's servers. If it's blue (used to be green), you're connected. If not, there is some issue (or it's in the middle of trying to connect).
he means the entire bar. I have this "problem" also on my device.
On stock firmware it is transparent. As chrome puts white under it, it will be grey.

Is There No Data Transfer Indicator in KitKat Notifications Bar?

I'm talking about the tiny up/down arrows within either the WiFi or mobile signal icons in the notification bar indicating that data is being actively transferred. I see nothing on Nexus 5 even during heavy data transfer. i do see the transfer arrows in quick settings, but that's not ideal.
It's in the pull down drawer now.

I'm using a KitKat port from the N5 and I've noticed the same thing. Send to be by design... Or lack of!

Yup, I've noticed this too and this sucks. I totally loved/relied on those indicators.
Anyone know if a 4.4 ROM has brought those back?
