I'm talking about the tiny up/down arrows within either the WiFi or mobile signal icons in the notification bar indicating that data is being actively transferred. I see nothing on Nexus 5 even during heavy data transfer. i do see the transfer arrows in quick settings, but that's not ideal.
It's in the pull down drawer now.

I'm using a KitKat port from the N5 and I've noticed the same thing. Send to be by design... Or lack of!

Yup, I've noticed this too and this sucks. I totally loved/relied on those indicators.
Anyone know if a 4.4 ROM has brought those back?

I am not a n00b about stuff but I still don't understand why sometimes when I open an app like this one or chrome the notification bar turns grey... any ideas? Not that its a problem just curious. Don't do it every time

The entire notification bar...? Or just the 3g/wifi/signal bars?
If the color of the signal is changing (blue vs. gray) this indicates connectivity to the internet... or, more specifically, connectivity to Google's servers. If it's blue (used to be green), you're connected. If not, there is some issue (or it's in the middle of trying to connect).
he means the entire bar. I have this "problem" also on my device.
On stock firmware it is transparent. As chrome puts white under it, it will be grey.

It seems that some say yes and some say no. How could this be so ambiguous. Can someone with the device verify this in any way?

Yes there is. It is located on the bottom of the front panel. You have to enable the notification using light of course. I did find it odd that they did locate the light down there.
Yes there is! With Lightflow you can change the color of the notifications as well
Yes there is and it works well for me without the need for an app.

Why is it odd that it's down there. That's the exact same position that is at on the nexus 4.

Mine flashes blue for chomp which is the colour I selected, it flashes green for whatsapp which is the colour I selected and it flashes white for gmail. I don't have and led control program installed.
Works fine without app for me using rastakat rom which has a few color tweaks!
Yep, it's got a multi color LED.
Really easy to miss, though. It only flashes once every 10 seconds or so, which is pointless for a LED notification light. It's easier just to unlock your phone and check for notifications, rather than sit around for 10 seconds waiting to see if the light is going to blink or not.
LED manager works great too.

it was on the bottom for the galaxy nexus as well
it is odd because most phones have it on the top right corner or around there...the nexus lines have it on the bottom
I've been having problems using Light Flow with my N5. Hopefully an update will fix it!
Hello guys ,
As youmay understand ,I'm new on Nexus devices.I wanted to use the Notification Light to inform me if there's something new or not.
I saw the Light Manager App which works perfectly . But the Light Flow (lite~premium) doesn't work .I just can't go with it , it looks promising but it doesn't work ,as it doesn't inform me for a notification ,nor if I press the test button ,it Simply doesn't work .
It looks great but it seems that I can't do it .Please someone out there help me or if you could give me your backup it'd be great thanks anyway

If LightManager works perfectly then what are you looking for in Light Flow? I'm using LightManager to control what color the notification light is for each different type of notification. If that's all you want to do then stick with what works.

Because Light Flow looks better and it has many more features ,one of them was Mixing the colours Red,Blue,Green (forgive me if I made a mistake on these colors)

Light Flow works for me but it has bugs. View the help website in the app and go to Nexus 5 page.

Light Flow works for the most part for me.
Only sometimes after SMS gets dismissed, notification seems to keep blinking, though may be a GO SMS thing, not reproduced it consistently enough yet.
I use this to set it up http://www.folioflow.com/ff/page/website/lightflow/pageId/2349
Lightflow worked perfectly on my Nexus 4 but on my 5 it's a little buggy. With the last update a couple days ago it's running much better though. I know the dev is working hard on getting all the bugs worked out and he's getting close. I'm using the paid version and I would recommend it because the developer is very responsive on a few of these threads and is actively working on making it better.

I just did the KitKat up so my notification bar went transparent and now I'm noticing some burn-in. My screen is always on auto and never left sitting around w/ the screen on. Is any one else see this? Opening th books app and letting it go full screen is a good way to test.

My notification bar is black as well.. and is only transparent on the lock screen. Are you sure it's transparent?
However, on topic, I do not see any sort of burn-in. I wasn't even sure that was possible on these types of screens? But I could be wrong.

Are you using nova launcher? With 4.4 it has a setting under look and feel to enable transparent bar
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you're on stock 4.4 you should NOT have a transparent notification bar...
If you're using Nova there is an option to set it to transparent
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Guys, the transparent notification bar is not the default with 4.4. I have GEL but other 3rd party launchers like Nova also enable this.
OP, are you sure that you're actually seeing burn-in? The bar is transparent but fades to black.

Not that it's particularly relevant to the OPs question, but the KitKat update does, in fact, have the transparent status bar.
Unfortunately, what it doesn't have is the resized launcher to support it so it still looks black.

I just want to know if their is any kind of build prop tweaks to increase mobile data connection.. I live in Chicago get great T-Mobile LTE service (see screen shots) but don't seem to have strong connection.. Or does having connection full green not matter ? I remember on my GS3 there was fee build prop tweaks to fix that .. Also I'm on cataclysm rom with faux 014u kernel

Try flashing the .17 or .15 radio. It seems to help LTE performance.
so whats wrong with your data speed, its better than many other people get?
Nothing is wrong with it I was just wondering if the signal could get better/ stronger .. Like a green bar.. Not that weak yellow I was just wondering

the signal varies depending on your personal location. it can vary a few steps from one spot to another, time of day, and depending on how busy your local network is. theres nothing that with help you with your signal. from the looks of it, your data signal is good.
Thanks guys I was just curious To see if better signal will get me better battery life.. battery life is good but you know gotta always want more
