Hey guys, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I feel like it might be, but I just wanted to ask around. Today I was in an area with almost no signal, and I noticed my N5 got very hot to the point where I had to turn it off. I don't know if this was a coincidence where something else was doing this but I just thought it was a bit strange. Anyone else notice this issue?

For the past week or so, I've had the strangest issue. My phone turns itself off. I'll have the phone next to me and use it for a minute, put it down, then go to look at it again and its off. Have to press the reset button to get it back on.
Now, normally I'd assume something is wrong with the phone, but this makes me wonder. It turns off everyday when I am driving to/from work, in the same general area (between 2 roads about 1-2 miles apart). It's not just me experiencing this - my fiance does to. We both have the Fuze as well. When we went out last night, they both turned off on the way out, and again on the way back.
I'm wondering if it is a tower issue, or if it could be an issue with the phone (they are around the same age). I'm running a 6.5 rom on mine, while he is running a 6.1 rom, which he worked on himself.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I'm trying to figure out what causes it, and if it is outside the phone, if there is something to do. We are both on AT&T as well.. It's really driving me nuts.
I suspect extraterrestrial interference.
Seriously though, the fact that it happens to both phones does not make sense.
I have never heard of towers having the ability to do anything other than sending signals.
Unless you have installed a remote controll program such as Sprite Terminator that is not functioning correctly, this is certainly an anomaly.
Nope, no remote control programs.
Everyone around the office is joking about extraterrestrial interference. I have never heard of towers causing issues like that.
I must say, it's kinda freaky. I only really started to pay attention as I'm reaching my 1 year with the phone soon, and if there is an issue, I want to get it fixed.
The only thing which comes to mind is worrying close to the little green men screwing you about!
It would appear from your message that the phones only, and always, turn off when in the same location (or moving through that location atleast).
Assuming this is correct, then i would hazard a guess that there is some kind of EM interference in that area which is causing the phone to power off.
As to what that is... unless you are passing close by a military radar i cant think what would be causing such interference (airport surveillance radar shouldnt do it, nor will an aircraft weather radar unless its very old, and you're way too close to it [if so, i hope you dont want kids!], also a microwave transmitter shouldnt do it [again unless you're very close] and they are strictly LOS so should be positioned well above you).
Finally, all i can think of is a below ground electricity cable, but again - if you are getting enough EM radiation from that, your phone turning off is gonna be the least of your troubles.
If you figure it out pls let us know - i'm intrigued!
Wanted to post an update on this.
The past few days, nothing has happened. Guessing whatever was causing it is now fixed (or gone). Oddly enough, I walked to the printer and came back to my desk and my phone had decided to restart itself today.
I think my phone is possessed now..
Thanks for the ideas - I'm assuming it was something interfering, but have no idea what. Northern Virginia is a military area, so maybe that is to blame..
When you get too close to something else sending a wireless signal you'll notice your phone will start sounding like an engine. It starts buzzing. My NS started doing this last night. I called my girlfriend sitting in the same spot i always sit in and i was getting loud annoying feedback that she couldn't even hear. Why is this? I went outside by my pool to avoid anything giving off a signal but it was still buzzing. How do i fix this? I tried restarting.
So your NS was buzzing through the speaker despite not being near any other wireless devices?
Hi peeps, is anyone else having issues with reception on the desire s, i find when the phone is in my pocket, or if i am lying down with the phone under my pillow sometimes the signal just goes completely.. i have a app installed which alerts me when there is no signal so i am instantly aware of when it happens.. just wondered if anyone else has had the same problems and any solutions or reasons why this is happening..

i've never encountered this problem, maybe your in an aeria with bad reception? maybe it has something to do with your antenna being covered when its in your pocket or under pillow?
maybe you could try flashing new radio ?

there was a problem with desire s which was called the death grip, i believe (or something similar). I'm not sure if people still get it or just don't mention it but i believe it happened when there was pressure placed on the back of the phone. Try it. Just place your hand against the back of the phone (with slight force) and see if the signal drops.

The death grip happens as you said, but it affects WiFi signal, not data signal. Personally I've never had data signal issues, apart of course when I'm on the mountains

That's what i thought too, but i looked at the original thread and the OP said he had huge drops in data signal too so i thought this could be similar to that.

I am in London, on tmobile so I doubt my area has bad reception as I still have full reception and connected to hsdpa.. I tried putting my hand on the back and with slight force I notice a 1 bar drop from full bars.. I advise people to get the no reception app which notifies you and logs when reception is gone and restored, you mite be experiencing it aswell but don't know about it when it is in your pocket

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced their phones getting slow when they are in an area with little to no signal? It is very annoying and I can't seem to get it to be fast AT ALL. I would also like yo ask if anyone ever experiences any random slow downs that they can't fix?
Hey, been largely happy with my phone until recently, running it stock, 5.1.1. About a month or so ago, I noticed my signal was weak or nonexistent, but since it had not been an issue before, assumed they were working on the towers in the area or something. The problem persisted, regardless of where I was geographically, and that, combined with a SIM card error and some other quirks prompted me to take it in. They fixed everything and gave it back to me, although the signal issue remained. Then gave me another one, and that one has the same signal problems. You can stand in one spot and watch the phone pop from full signal to nothing and back again every few seconds.
The person I spoke with at the Sprint store indicated it was a known problem with the Edge phones that had to do with the antenna being in the curved space (poorly paraphrasing) or some such. The thing I don't understand, though, is why I never really experienced the problem until recently -- if it's truly a design thing, I'd think I would be having trouble out of the gate. Makes me wonder if Lollipop isn't contributing to the issue. Anyone have any wisdom or thoughts here? Anyone else experiencing these problems?
Thanks.
