[APP][4.0+] Rate Her: A wingman in your pocket - Android Apps and Games

A buddy of mine and I published an app a week or so ago in the Android market. It is actually Android exclusive for now (specially because Apple denied it...too risky for them apparently?!).
The app is called Rate Her. It is actually a "jokey" app if you will. The idea is for users (mostly guys) to use it when they are out and about at a bar or something, with friends. They will see a girl and then they pull out the app. They will rate this girl based on the 5 essential women traits (you can guess what they are...) from 1 to 10. Then they will get a "general" rating of what the girl might be based on their input. When they get this general rating though, they will be asked how much they have had to drink. How many beers, drinks or shots? Based on this then, a special algorithm by BroScience* calculates what the "real" rating of the girl would be if the user wasn't hammered. So it is...essentially...a wingman in your pocket.
If anyone has any idea on how to better maker this app, we would gladly appreciate any input or help!
For now, go here to check out the free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opencabinetlabs.rateherfree
And most of all...let us know what you think!
Thanks!
*Disclaimer: BroScience isn't actual science, it is completely (for the most part) made up and results may vary. We are not responsible if you hook up with someone you thought was an 8 but is actually a 3.

Testing.

Thanks! Looking forward to your thoughts.

The app is pretty neat. Easy to work UI. Can definitely see myself using this for a drinking game at the local bar!

and drinking game! I didn't even think about that! What kind of game did you have in mind? "Whoever rates her lower, takes a shot"? or what? Obviously for that one you have to expect guys to be honest haha or else they can just rate her pretty high for the heck of it....
Thanks for checking it out!

Each person rates one part. And if the number is higher than 7, everyone takes a shot.

Haha that is brilliant. I definitely have to tell others about that and try it out myself. You, sir, are a genius.
I wonder what other games could be made out of it. Somehow to punish just one person as well. I am liking this!

I agree with stkfigure, the UI is pretty simple and easy to use. I like it, I definitely see myself using it at the bars and even more with the game he suggested. Sounds like a lot of people will get drunk pretty quickly...ha!
I am curious, how long did it take you to develop it?

Well it was 2 of us. I personally developed the iOS version while my buddy developed the Android version. I worked on the iOS version around 2 years ago, and it took me like a week to get the "basics" of it done" ...but then design and everything took a few days... but then I let it sit there for 2 years until a few months ago. Then we re-did the whole thing, design wise specifically, and it took us "real time wise" like 3 months...but actual work wasn't more than a week or two between the two apps. So I would say in total...maybe 2 weeks of actual work, since we did it on our spare time.
Hope that answered your question and thanks for checking it out!

It does! Thank you for answering! I actually tried it last night after drinking for a little while, I rated a girl an 8.2 (I think that's what it was) and it turned out to be like a 5.8 ..yeah...I was a little plastered! Made me think to myself "yep, not doing it" and gave me a good laugh. My buddies asked me why and I explained, they laughed too and wanted to download it but they both had iPhone's. Sucks for them!

haha that's quite the drop man, I am glad it helped you a little.
And yeah, it sucks we haven't been able to release it for iPhone as well, definitely some market there as well can't deny that. But that's one of the perks of developing for Android, because trust me...trying to get Apple to approve it has been one heck of a pain.
Again, thanks a lot for using it. We appreciate it! Report back with any on the field usage if you have any more funny stories to tell us about!

That's freakin ingenious! Make money rooting ppls phones on the backs of the devs who've done all the hard work to make it possible.
IMHO, do it yourself and save the money. I had no experience in phone modding before my old Aria and it was a piece of cake. The inspire was a lil more difficult but not painful.
If you have decent reading comprehension skills, you can do it, especially with 20+yrs in puter stuff.
Tx
Yeah taking money from the devs who put all the hard work in seems like assholery. Unless they donate their profits to the dev's which I doubt
Wow, $100 for rooting
I took my time reading, rooting my very first android phone (approximately 3~4 hrs, I'm slow ) I just donate to the DEV teams who really done great job for us.
Serious rip-off.
I used Bubby's method+video, and was rooted in 15 minutes.
Just take your time, and pause the video after each step, and you'll be fine.
I guess he's off to do the deed.
Take that money and donate it to the devs. Sure, you'll have to go through the process of rooting yourself, but the benefit vastly outweighs any inconvenience/learning curve.
Not only do you give the money to those who actually deserve it, the devs who dive into the depths of these phones so the rest of us don't have to (and the good conscience that comes with so doing), you also get a little more understanding of how your phone actually works.

Good for you. You can handle it. I've been doing the computer thing since the Apple ][, and the phone world was a little overwhelming for me as well. It's just new, not necessarily more difficult.
I did more than my share of reading prior to rooting, and you know how many problems I had? A whole entire whopping ZERO. ;-)

[Q] Kinda at a standstill,,,,

Hey all,,,
Well, im trying to root my samsung mesmerize and when i get to the part where it says run as administrator, it keeps asking for a password. Is there a step ive missed or something else i have to do? Please let me know. I'm trying to use my phone as a wireless hotspot or wireless tethering device to use for laptop or xbox 360 or whatever. So,, any info/help would be greatly appreciated, THANKS!!!!
What the hell are you talking about man? You've got to be more clear. Are you talking about running whatever root procedure on your computer as an administrator? If that's the case then the password is clearly going to be whatever the password is for the administrator account on your computer.
And by the way, no way you're going to be able to play 360 games online with tethering. You would lag out the ass.

Not to mention blast through you data cap at a fairly quick rate.
Ive played WoW on my mobile connection before, granted it was very laggy it was still do able, in comparison hughes net was a worse gaming connection then the cell but neither are great, not recommended for anything serious; as for the 360 the most I have even tried on there is just loading add ons and game updates both of which worked fine.

What are you one of those I'm so cool 21 year olds who announces ha ha I'm so drunk, and make stupid posts from the bar because I can't handle my liquor, lol... To whom it may concern....

As some of you may have noticed, I have been very inactive in the Android world over the past month or so. I wanted to take the opportunity to let everyone know what is going on.
My wife is 8 months pregnant, and starting about a month ago she has been having some issues. Nothing too serious, but it means we have to go to the doctor several times a week to make sure she and the baby are not getting worse. She is also not supposed to leave the house if possible. As much as I enjoy the playing around I do with Blackhole, my family has to come first.
The Baby could be born any time now, and I simply don't have the time to devote to Android like I used to. I will admit that what little free time I have left now goes to extra sleep (cause I know I won't be getting any for a while after the baby is born). Lets face it, I'm no Adrynalyn or Jcase. For me Android has always been a hobby, and I do what I do mostly for myself, but just decided to share it.
I do plan on getting back into things once my life has settled down a bit, and if something major happens (Official GB upgrade anyone?) I'll try to make the time to release an update, but don't expect anything from me for a while.
I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me with kind words, donations, suggestions, testing, bug reports, etc. over the past 9 months or so since I started developing on the Fascinate, and I want you all to know how much I appreciate you.

True enough, and we certainly have our share of drama queens, but overall I think the user base for Android, and especially those active in the Modding community, are much more understanding when it comes to the important things. Sure we've got people who will pitch a fit if things don't go their way, but I've seen nothing but support when I'm letting everyone know that I'm taking a major break. No "But wherez my r0mz dud3!!", just well wishes and genuine concern.

May not be what you are looking for but we have some hard working devs, that get good stuff to us all the time.

Miui's appeal for me is its small customization, toggles and theming options. Just change the launcher.

Youngest app developer

Guys I am 11 years old and I'm the youngest app developer in Europe! I currently develop for only one platform which is android. I am soon to receive a free noka lumia 920 from Microsoft I recently made this in 4 hours! Any of you guys like it? Its free! To view the app you have to search the google play store for "tree jump flamagames" android
Well how do you know your the youngest? I made my first app at the age of 12. And I am from South-Africa, nothing happens here, I am sure there are younger developers in Europe.
Your game is so unbelievably hardcore that I gnawed one of my arms off in frustration and then proceeded to run around my living room screaming obscenities at whatever inanimate objects were unfortunate enough to be in my path.
I am the youngest.

The game runs on the Adobe Air platform. I know because it prompted me to download Adobe Air since I didn't have it.
I am a ROM Developer for 4 Devices and I am only 15 years old !! I also run all the builds ALONE !!
Well done for creating apps, however what really is the point of this thread? it does seem to me like you just trying to get your post count up
Nice work, starting so young! I was writing code when I was your age as well, although they were BASIC and C games running on my Apple II and PC XT clone....with 320x200 4-color/2-bit CGA graphics. Programming can be great fun, just don't forget to go play outside.
I'd suggest making tree jump work in a landscape orientation, in order to give the player the ability to see farther ahead.
There's always going to be someone younger, don't worry about it. But watch out for making claims about being the world's youngest. In any case, that's impressive work for age 11.
Neat work coming from an 11 year old. Also not a bad way to get them downloads

I'd suggest making tree jump work in a landscape orientation, in order to give the player the ability to see farther ahead.
There's always going to be someone younger, don't worry about it. But watch out for making claims about being the world's youngest. In any case, that's impressive work for age 11.

I never said I was the worlds youngest I said I was Europes youngest! Which is true! Google "Caolan Fleming"
Now is simple to have all information that you need to develop apps. When i was 12, i read for the first time how to program games for J2ME, but i did not have the concept how to program. However, my first program was in Visual Basic at 15 years old at school, on the books and without internet because 10 years ago internet was a luxury in Italy. Now is a great time to lear how to program because internet has all information that you need for all.
Nice that you are writting an Android app in your age. But honestly how can you be sure you are the youngest in Europe. But nevermind
But seriously do you want an answer to your post. I'm coding already double the time you are old. So I give you a tip: become 14-16, go out and meet a nice girl:laugh: and make other things. Because I have the feeling you are already obsessed. And this is the wrong way
Go out and have some fun with your friends man.. Being obsessed by these things at such a young age can cost you valuable future friendships

I predict that will happen in 3-5 years.

I'll never tell you my secret!
Well accomplished, but you're dangerously close to letting your brief moment of fame get to your head.
Truth is, we're mildly impressed but nobody actually cares all that much.
Good luck and all the best
