So there is a thread over at the razr forums with a similar heading, except the question remains whether our device will get android 4.4 or not.
I don't mean to rush things or anything but i just wanted to know on behalf of the members of the A2 forum if we will, at some point get android 4.4 on our phone and if alteredlikeness, deveshmanish, dtrail1 and all the other awesome devs are still supporting this device (ravikirancg seems to have moved on and we'll surely miss him since he was a top dev).
Hope you haven't given up on us.
Cheers guys.
We at this forum would have been nowhere without you.
Edit:
Seems Motorola Defy and Razr have already got Alpha versions of CM11. Really anxious and jealous of them at the moment.
The RAZR does not have 4.4 yet - there's no download link. And I've been in contact with that dev, and he has not confirmed that it boots yet - he only got through the build errors and completed a build, as far as I know (and as the saying goes.. Screenshot, or it didn't happen.)
As for me, I have cm11 and slimkat sources synced, but no time to dedicate to the build errors and proper repos at the moment..
As for the Defy, yea, Quarx2k is a mad scientist genius..
And, yes, I do believe that we will see 4.4 on our phones - at least I sure as hell hope to, and will do what I can to help make it happen
Edit: Wait, is this my 2000th post!? Right on.. But, damn, that's a lot..

Congrats, Alt on your 2000th post and looking forward for many, many more to come with interesting posts.
I am delighted to hear that there is a possibility of getting KitKat to our device. SlimKat, sounds promising like your SlimRom, which is my current favorite and looking forward to it. Thank you for all your hard work and continuous support and of course thanks to all the other developers of this device. :good::good::good:

Good thing if Android 4.4 comes to our A2. But will the previous bugs, such as lack of 1080p recording and HDMI get fixed since Hashcode has left now?

Thanks, we'll get it eventually through a custom ROM of some sort. Speaking of which, that seems like it will forever be the case since I just found this: https://motorola-global-portal.cust...XRWl6eU9GbCIsInNlc3Npb25JRCI6IldFMnp5T0ZsIn0.
Fortunately the AHD will be getting official upgrade so at least the Atrix line still made it to the latest in the end.

Dude. That's old news. You should follow the Motorola OMAP4 group on G+.
The build that razr got is quite good for an initial release, however there are still some major bugs. ART doesn't seem to be working and the internal SD Card doesn't mount.
altered has already got it booting on the A2 as well but it seems the baseband is having some compatibility issues but it's only a matter of time before those issues are sorted out.
So cheers for KitKat on our devices.

Hey altered,
Seems to me that you're facing some problems with the baseband and all. Could you upload a test build without the baseband and the likes working, just a pre-alpha release, you know, for showing off the phone to friends who have a nexus and still haven't got android 4.4 and bragging rights in general.
Cheers,
z

Haha.. Sure. I will be uploading my 4.4 test builds here. Check you got the zip for the right device (I will mix spyder and maserati in there too).
Install on a non-main system with BMM. Find/use a good 4.4 Gapps..
No sdcard or phone/data/baseband on the edison build yet.. Do not expect support yet. Still a work-in-progress.
And my son wants to add some smiley faces, etc...

I flashed slim-spyder and slim-umts on a newly created partition 6, does not boot, just the black screen with the green LED. By the way I am a former kexec reject :silly:. I know this is still WIP, this is just a feed back and not a complaint. Thank you so much for bringing KitKat for our device and for all your efforts. :good:

Hi, I have noticed a ton of people curious about why AT&T people do not have ICS yet, so I thought I would answer that once and for all. I admit that I and others have gotten a little mad whenever people ask about this, but it seems they are not able to really find a clear answer, so here it is.
If you feel like this is well done, please sticky it at least until we get it all figured out.
I figure this would be best said i a Q and A type form.
Q: What is ICS, and why does everyone want it so bad?
ICS or "Ice Cream Sandwich" is android version 4.0.x. the next version, 4.1 Jellybean was just released as a slightly less important update, but ICS brought huge changes from Ginger Bread (2.3.x) the previous phone version (3.x HoneyComb was tablet only). ICS brings a slicker, darker, and better looking user interface, as well as many performance enhancements. Most of us want it more because it seems like we should than because it is actually that much better. That said it is still a great update, and most people will be happy to see it.
Click to collapse
Q: Why is it so hard to get ICS for our phone, while others have it even though it is not officially out?
The main reason is our locked bootloader. That means it is not possible to flash or boot a custom kernel unless it is signed with Motorola's key. That is obviously impossible.
Click to collapse
Q: What is a kernel?
the kernel is a major part of any operating system. you can think of it as a sort of layer between hardware and software. It is the part of an OS that communicates directly with a device's hardware. Android is based off the open source Linux kernel, meaning it is free for anybody to build and modify. However, Motorola has only released the source for the ME865, and partially for the MB865, meaning we can't really build a kernel anyways. Then of course, even if we could build one, we wouldn't be able to boot it with our locked bootloader.
ICS is not really complete without the newer kernel that goes with it

What is Kexec, and is there any way to unlock the bootloader
The fact that I grouped these together would probably lead you to correctly believe they are related. Lets start with the second half. Simply put, NO. I hate to say it, but there is very little hope of EVER unlocking our bootloader, unless Motorola decides to do something like HTC did and allow unlocking.
Kexec is a method of hot switching kernels while still booted. It is actually just a linux tool that you can use on a computer, but it has been built for android essentially allowing you to bypass the bootloader. Theoretically it would be an easy way to run custom kernels. Then why don't we? Well a few reasons. One, we can't really get one built to begin with, especially because, at least to my knowledge, jimbridgman is the only one who actually knows what he is doing with kernel building, and he is only half here now that he got his fany new SGS3. Two, it does not work great. I am not sure the latest version is working at all on our phone, and even if it did, only one processor comes up, meaning it is really slow.
Click to collapse
Q: What's the deal with these Droid 3 builds that supposedly boot?
Some people managed to build ICS for the droid 3 based of a 2.3.6 kernel. that means you can boot it on a stock GB kernel, and therefore you do not need to unlock the bootloader. Unfortunately that means it is not totally ICS, but it is still pretty good. Of course they are for a cdma phone, so that means no data, no calls, and no gps, making it kind of useless.
I am not going to give a link to them, but if you are really interested go search around. any of the Droid 3 AOKP and CM9 builds will boot just fine. Find more info in the dev section, but please don't start a thread asking about it.
We have been trying to port these to work for us, but that is proving more difficult than expected, and with ICS just around the corner, I don't want to put time into it. I do think it is possible, and if you are a dev looking to give it a shot, PM me and I will tell you all I know, and try to help out as much as I can.

Just one thing to inform about your last question's ans.. DROID 3'S ROMS DONT WORK ON OUR PHONE. IT WILL BOOTLOOP. SO DO NOT TRY FLASHING THEIR AOKP OR CM.. without backups and sufficient knowledge and experience atleast.. some changes have to be made in the rom before flashing.. i am trying to find all the files we must replace to get them working on our phone.. and just a FYI for those of you that wanna try.. other than droid 3, bionic is our nearest relative.. so u can edit and try their roms as well.. i did kinda get cm9 of bionic after replacing some required files.. but it bootlooped.. and of course bionic is cdma.. so.. good luck..

Please I emplore you to do your proper research before making incorrect posts like this. I constantly see posts from those who think they know it all, and post idiotic things like this. Nothing makes me madder than someone who does not know how to use google and the search function.
It takes less than 2 min. to make sure you CYA before posting bad information.
Both CM9 and AOKP boot, but with no radio, as has already been said in several posts now. I have tested both.
P.S. most of us devs in here have been working on this very thing for sometime now, and I have not seen you jump in on any of threads discussing the files or how to port or anything.

Agreed, They actually run extremely well, but obviously I can't stick with them with no radio.
P.S. this is my new best thought for porting, might take some extra build.prop work too. It did not boot for me, but I think we should be able to get it to. Then it is just a question of whether or not the radio will work. there is way more in build.prop on that than I would think.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713
I think it may work because it really adds the cm9 stuff to our own files rather than add our files to it. maybe not the cleanest way, but it might just work.

I have tried this method along with every idea that popped in my head of things to alter after following this guide. I have a highly modified build prop that AOKP boots with that I replaced with a lot of our build prop but there are still some things missing as no luck yet
Hi, I am looking for a FEW people to test out some ICS ROMS and report bugs to me. I would like only those who are at least a bit experienced, so that you know what you are doing, but if you are interested please reply here and I will send you a PM if I need you. Please don't flood my inbox with PMs.
Getting a few of you devs would be nice, since you really know what you are talking about.
Thanks

MOD EDIT: Thread Moved to Dev Forum. Provided most of the rom links and other important info is listed here as well.

I'm up for testing What are your builds based off of? I've found that I like the AOKP Bionic ones best, in terms of performance and compatibility.
What modifications have you done to them?

all it is for now is the droid 3 aokp and ics builds with modified build.props, just trying to get things out here. Dorid 4 and RAZR builds don't wan't to work for me, I have not tried bionic yet. the droid 3 aokp that I used in my most recent build will not boot, but that may be my fault with the mods, but other ones have worked. known issues so far are no sdcard in cm9, no wifi in cm9, and duh, no radio anwhere.
I'm Game!
I'll try it:cyclops:!
Anyone can feel free to download any builds I put up here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/Motorola_ATRIX_2_Developers/lkrasner/ (in subfolders mostly, so look around as I add more.)
Do not expect them to even boot, and it is not even remotely my problem if something goes wrong with them. make sure you know how to fxz back. Right now CM9 boots, but I do not think AOKP does, you can give it a shot though. Please hold off on bug reports for now, or PM them to me, as I will set up a thread in the dev section later or tomorrow.

**[p999 G2X ONLY) PRE-ALPHA- NO SUPPORT - KNOWN BUGS (NO CALL AUDIO)**
AS ALWAYS 'A BIG THANKS' TO THE CYANOGENMOD TEAM FOR ALL THEY DO. WITHOUT THEM NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE.
There will be no support provided for this release as it is still undergoing development. Do not contact support regarding bugs as we are well aware of the current state of each Service.
This is in Pre-Alpha so expect things to not work. This is a barebones Jelly Bean 4.1 AOSP build. Not everything will be functional to its usual capacity.

Several Known Issues / Things Not Working:
Code:
*Audio doesn't work
*Data tends to cut off at times. A "hot-reboot" usually fixes it and this is due to audio not working.
*Phone will not enter 'Sleep Mode', again due to audio malfunctioning.
*Mobile Data Network: Data IS working, but you might need to cause the phone to hot-reboot (...easiest way is by connecting to non-encrypted network, which in turn usually fails.) It's due to a SIM-card thing...
*On cold-boot the SIM card status is not correct.
AGAIN, SOME STUFF NOT WORKING - THIS IS A SNEAK PEEK -> NO COMPLAINTS, or BUGS, or EMAILS OR ANYTHING SIMILAR THAT GIVES US THE FEELING YOU DONT LIKE IT. -

EAGLESBLOOD™ ROM INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
========================================
**IMPORTANT** MUST READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW COMPLETELY.
1. Make a full backup of your current ROM. Then copy it over to PC if you wish.
2. Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM). *Note* You should always flash CWM using a USB Cable and NVflash; do not 'flash CWM from the ROM Manager app'.
3. To begin start by clicking "Wipe User Data/Factory Reset", this will wipe all data off of the phone's memory (not SD card though).
4. Now click "Wipe cache partition".
5. Then go down to "Advanced > Wipe Dalvik cache".
6. Choose Install zip from "External SD Card". Wait for that to complete and confirm you see an "Installation Complete" message.
7. Now, you must flash the correct Google Apps - GAPPS JB (gapps-2012xxxx.zip) ...link below.
Once the gapps are installed you can now click "Reboot System". Failing to complete all of these instructions precisely can potentially leave you stuck in CWM Recovery until you manage to build your way back out. This is not fun, trust us.
9. Done. Enjoy your new ROM!

But I think Nexus got the official update from Samsung.
In our case however, we can hardly expect ICS from LG let alone JB.
So I do hope once we have ICS (fingers crossed) the devs here would be able to make a fully functional JB out of it.
The reason I am asking it because the recently we saw the Google now app ported to ICS but they couldn't get the talk back to work, as I read somewhere it was JB kernel specific.

I was getting scared about 4.1 Jelly Bean! With no word from Ricardo but ah you're doing well it looks great!
Do the camera's work? No mention of camera's and the HAL has had alot of work since 4.0.x just interested be good to know, since I'm not flashing until the other major bugs are gone.
Also I don't see why Wi-Fi calling isn't an extra flashable zip I always have to uninstall it as its no use to me.
BTW when you get to your releases that are for me at least very heavily skinned will there be a way to de-skin it cause that's what puts me off about eagles blood and Hellfire roms .....
Finally will I be able to use my internal storage as an SD card at some point since my SD card reader is physically broken so otherwise my phones crippled without that ability
Cheers sorry for the moaning just questions

Also, I talked to Ricardo earlier at length and he now says lg is having problems with Nvidia, what I mean by this is that lg is experiencing the same thing we are. They are ready and wanting to release ics and drivers, but Nvidia is being Nvidia. We might not get drivers after all. Thanks for the thread space guys, back on topic, I noticed reboots when trying to connect wifi.

Android and licences, 101
Kernel: GPLv2 = must make source available on request when distributing a binary, on XDA we consider posting a rom a request for source code, you normally get a few days.
ROM/recovery/most other bits and bobs google wrote/used from elsewhere: Mostly under the apache or BSD licenses, this means that as long as you GIVE CREDIT to whoever's code you are using, you are free to use the code without giving out source.
This means they are within their rights to not give out source for the OS.
So now lets get back on topic and stop flaming, I had to spend another 15min cleaning up this mess rather than sleeping, so thanks for that.

As an off-topic question would any of you devs know if there is a compile flag to enable tasks/notes in Exchange Services or some way to enable it? Best answer I have found searching this is that the phones that do support it only have it because it was provided as a feature by HTC/Motorola.

No, altered said in the PA thread that he was working on aospa, so... That is what A2trip was pointing out, with his screen shot that he included in his post.
Also this has been asked and answered so many times now. AOKP will most likely not come to this phone, but there is CM10 and CM10.1 if those ever become bug free then maybe, but I would highly doubt it.
