Hey Folks,
Having an odd one with my new perfect nexus 5. I use the LG HBS730 BT Headset and while I play any sound I am unable to fully mute the audio. I tried lowering it via the volume on the phone and headset. It lowers but not mute it fully, the low volume is still pretty loud.
Anyone else tried this? Works perfect on my old phone as well as my iPad, when I lower it fully it'll mute but not on my nexus.
Thoughts?
Btw tried it with Google Play Music and YouTube, same issue.
The HBS730 is loud as hell on its lowest setting. The 700 is normal. The reason it is so loud on the Nexus is the Bluetooth is now linked up volume wise. The problem is the 730 not the nexus.

Its not about being loud my issue, its the fact that i am unable to mute the audio. I can do this on an HTC One XL, S4, and iPad.
With the Nexus, i cant mute it.

I could mute mine on 4.3, but not 4.4. Like I said, the OS in 4.4 now links up Bluetooth Volume level to the media volume level. This leads to it being unable to be muted since you can't turn down the volume past the lowest the headset offers. The closest thing you can do is pause, but that's it.
FYI, I have 2 HBS730's, and a HBS700.

Any fix? I am using an equalizer as a workaround but it's kind of inconvenient. The equalizer app sometimes got killed and then the volume jumps (and so do I)!
I have this headset and I love it. unfortunately I have the same problem in that even on its lowest setting its pretty loud.

Hi all.
I made the switch from an iphone about a month back and noticed a major change in sound quality when I line out to my car or speakers.
I'm really confused about this and am hoping someone could shed some light on what's going on or a fix.
My setup:
-Car: 07 Honda civic with premium sound system and stock subwoofer. nothing fancy.
-Phone: Black ice, voodoo, ext4 data
voodoo is at default settings, i tried adjusting the max volume or something and it just made it sound distorted
Here is the problem:
-If I plug my iphone into my car and turn the iphone volume all the way up the max volume I can stand on my head unit is 25 out of 40. And it sounds clear.
-With the GS4G's volume at max, volume 40(max) on my head unit is not even loud enough and becomes distorted. I never had distortion issues with my iphone. Is this simply hardware limitations or is my phone not configured correctly
The majority of my music listening is done in my car. So any help is appreciated.
-And please dont call me an apple fan boy. Because im not. Lol Id never go back over android.
Well I use mine in the same way aux and so far so good but I do notice I have to turn up the volume on my deck for phone calls no distortion though

Yes, I think your AUX cable is messed up, as in, its different for iphone n other phones. However if you are using a 3-contacts regular stereo auxiliary cable, it should have worked fine, just check the cable once before going further in resolving the issue.
The 4 contact aux cable, which also has provision for mic support maybe causing this issue....
Make sure you have the latest voodoo control app.
Set the volume limit to +3 line out optimal
Set the head phone volume to 3db (All the way up)
Play around with the bass boost until it sounds good to you.
My bass boost is set to medium, gain + 6, and range 20%. See of that helps.

Hey everyone thanks for all the advice. I finally got it set to my liking.
First I updated the voodoo control app. I think that was the main problem.
Then settings are as follows:
-headphone amp: -2
-volume limit: 3
-bass boost: sub, gain of 6 and range at 20%
Everything else is stock.
Again thanks for the help.
-and sorry for the double post. I meant to edit the original with my statement in quotes.
Good deal man. It does help quite a bit to tweak the audio. I hope that the final release of uber music has an eq for further audio tuning... If you don't have that player, you should get it.

Im having issues with the volume of the Call volume on the main speaker when i press speaker phone while in a call.
im currently running CM7.1 with 2.3.5 but no matter what i try using the settings in CM or with the Volume+ app the person is still at very low volume.
I do a lot of driving and this pisses me off because the volume of music from the speaker is fine and can be turned up so loud that it becomes distorted, and i can't stand using a headset, pisisng around with wires while driving and getting caught on stuff in the cab.
Anyone know of a good way to boost this as alot of things i have tryed just keep FC'ing on me when i connect headphones or receive a call.
This could be the party on the other line. Most music or other video/ podcasts are recorded with quality sound. Phone microphones aren't as good.

Well i have only ever tested it when receiving or making the call from an IPhone 3G and a Nokia E70, every time the call has been low volume from both handsets.
strange volume+ ver.174 doesn't work for you because I blow my speaker using it. I turned the speaker volume up to 15 and the phone volume was maxed and later that day I was sprint for a exchange. Thats the only app that increases your volume to that degree so if it isn't working it maybe your phone.

15 ?!!! That's excessive. I have mine at +4 and still have some trepidation most times, but +15...that's crazy.
Differently from others who find that headphones volume is low, I think that what is really low is the speaker volume.
Using, or should I say trying to use, this phone for a call inside a car using the speaker is impossible... the volume is too low and the car noise, even at lower speeds will be higher.
Is there a way to increase the volume without changing kernel or rom? Maybe some system option like the one that can be used on ATT LG G2.
Thanks.

There is currently no system boost. I have to say when the phone was delivered I hated everything in the sound department with the Nexus 5. The volume is erratic my 5 year old daughter loves nextflix and the playback is so quiet even she was like where's is the volume boost. I am sure there will be a software fix by developers or google soon, well I hope so.
Hi of you use volume + this works to increase the sound always

Is anyone else's speaker very low? I was watching a YouTube video and I can barely hear it. I played the same video on my note 2and it's much louder on my note 2. Is it just my phone or is the speaker that low?

yup, its pretty low volume, not stereo sound like the nexus 7 FHD with fauxsound app, hopefully i can get fauxsound on this nexus 5
only app that seems to work for me is DFX pro player, it makes the mp3s pretty loud, using it with franco kernel r12 with headset boost option
youtube/movie files volume is very low still
i don't use my headphones, only speakers so i really need LOUD speakers

If you use Google Music it'll be louder. My youtube volume is super low too, and is aware of it and working on a fix. Lets hope it's in the next month or so.

I play music when I am at work and I have the volume maxed and it still is super low.
mine is load as anything.... look up adam outlers tread.. there seems to be glue blocking the sound on some models... he drills into the speaker chamber to let sound from the back of the speaker eminate from inside the phone...

Same issue as OP.
Read the link above.... but i really open the phone if its the glue thats blocking it. Can this be rma'd?

I know I am resurrecting an old thread but I don't recall the speaker being this bad when I was on kit kat or lollipop is that possible? Running Marshmallow currently and the speaker is piss poor. I can barely hear callers. I don't care about listening to videos or movies I have a bluetooth speaker for that it for phone calls it's horrendously low. I installed the "volume boost for nexus 5" from the play store, rebooted to recovery to flash the zip and it made ZERO difference for phone calls however other sounds are louder. Would going back to an older room matter?

me too. i just picked up a nexus 5 and updated to miui8, tried nougat and stock MM, all have very low call volume. nougat being the worst, even now. im talking to people i swear they get quieter and quieter until almost un able to hear them then it just bursts loud again (when on calls). when playing music/youtube/mp3s/pandora its terribly quiet.
i have a note 2 LTE also as the OP posted and on my Note2, (even with out boeffla sound enabled) its way louder.. sure note 2 with boeffla (eargasm eq enabled) its bloody loud.
I bought nexus 5 a month ago. from then i don't know weather this is the problem or the volume of speaker is built low. i am getting very low ringing volume . while on cal its loudspeaker volume is very good and while on head set volume is also very good. only problem is while ringing a cal or while playing music via loud speaker the volume is below average. i went to service center they just took one more nexus 5 which they had(that one was other customers phone which has a software bug) and compare it with that phones speaker that phone is also giving same volume. but i have read reviews that its speaker has very good sound. and it has around 65db sound. my friend has iphone 5 it has 68db which sounds very good(while ringing). but mine with less just 3db difference is not even half i think. i saw in internet lg released an hardware upgrade so that speakers can be changed is that correct? how can i fix this?
This is a well known issue.
You can flash this zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532788
There are a few other methods as well. You can also look at viper4android or faux sound deal.
I use the sound file called sedna..with no fixes I can hear it clear across the house even without full volume.

It already exists as a selectable ring tone under Sound settings.

You`l have to root to increase loudness, read the first 4 threads in the General section first first first first and don`t use toolkits
It isn't a defect, all of them are pretty quiet. I just flashed franco kernel and used his app to boost the speaker volume. It's almost too loud now...the lowest setting was the highest one before.
