Hi,
does anybody know what kind of glass is on the camera lense?
It is relatively "out-there" and could be a scratch magnet.
Did any of you lucky people with the phone notice anything?
According to some sources I've seen, its Sapphire Glass.

The reason I'm asking this is because I just dropped my desire from 1,5m high while biking, the screen servived but the camera lens was less fortunate. After removing the broken glas the camera seems to work just fine again albeit without protective glas, which is no reason for concern since the backcover would still protect the lens from damage and dust, but still I would like to know if anyone know of a good place to get parts, like the camera module, digitiser, LCD etc.

Hi all,
Just wanted to get people's opinion on the lens, specifically the large lens cover. I have a scratch across mine, which in one part is rather deep. Not crack levels of deepness, but deeper than a hairline. I currently have a dbrand skin covering the lens - is this likely to develop into a crack, or should I not worry about it?
I've read somewhere that the camera lens is sapphire crystal and virtually unscratchable - I'm calling BS on that.
Thanks

I don't mind it, especially if its a design choice LG had to make in-order to incorporate the OIS camera sensor. I'd rather have a slightly protruding camera lens on an otherwise thin phone over a recessed camera on a thick phone or a weird camera hump like that of the nokia 1020.

I don't think a small scratch on something small like the camera lens would grow to be a crack. So don't worry about it.

You've read wrong, Nexus 5 was never claimed to have a sapphire crystal camera lens.
I actually really enjoy the camera on this device, but it's giving me some issues I didn't really notice on my s3 probably because I never took pictures at night.
For some reason the glass on the s3 seemed to have an oleophobic coating that resisted fingerprint smudges, but this device doesn't. It leaves oil smudges that create light streaks in night photos. I didn't take a good comparison photo, but I will tonight if anyone doesn't understand what I mean. Once I wipe off the oil smudge then the pictures come out great.
Just wondering if anyone knows of a coating I can apply that is safe for camera glass or a screen protector with an oleophobic property that fits over the camera without distorting the photo.

Why don't you just wipe the lens clean before you use the camera?

Well of course I can do that, but it's annoying to always have to do that, especially when I want a quick picture.
Just looking for more of a innate solution, I'm going to try to cut a round circle off a fingerprint resistant screen protector and see if it distorts the picture.

For some reason everytime i take a pic on my nexus 5 it looks like pieces of glass on the picture. The lens cover is not cracked and has no scratches so i am trying to figure out the problem. Is there anything i can buy to fix the problem? I have posted a pic for your convenience. please help
Maybe the lens itself has something on it. If so, can't be fixed without dismantling the device.

looks like something shattered on the inside. beside for the glass in the photos, does the picture quality look normal? did you buy the phone this way?
Hi, I been searching information on lense type but can't find any.
This g lense use sapphire glass or coated sapphire or normal glass (gg5) or plastic?
Thanks.

It's definitely not plastic as a razor blade doesn't scratch it. I don't know if it has any sapphire crystals in it.
I still can't find detail on this g lens type on web. I suspect it's gorilla glass 5. Other phone maker stated clearly of they use sapphire on the lense. If sony also have this sapphire, I believe sony also will highlight it. The metal ring around the lense also maybe show it's not using sapphire as it may function to protect the lens.
Just if it's not sapphire, it will eventually scratch at some point.
