GPU acceleration question - General Questions and Answers

i have a Rom where there is this tab in settings named "build.prop mods"
and one of the mods is GPU acceleration where it says "enable hardware acceleration where the GPU controls the UI instead of the CPU" can someone explain this to me? what its does exactly? and if it's bad for your GPU or phone or if it's better.

[Q] GPU accelerated Honeycomb stock launcher??

I see this thread for my friend's device
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1221336)
and i find it that Honeycomb stock launcher can gpu accelerated.
This device is advent vega,
CPU is Tegra2, ram is 512MB
so, our xoom is well spec than device
but, you see this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNvsKffbVYE
When i see this video, i feel very envy this device
because, if xoom run the Live wallpaper and do scrolling,
the scroll is not smoothing but, this video it's not!!!!
and thread say, some tweaks have this kernel.
Can we possible do GPU accelerated in stock launcher like advent vega???
Thx for read this post.
(I need to learn more writting english....)

GPU rendering and Disable Hw Overlays JB

On ICS i would always force GPU rendering on because it would make scrolling a lot smoother on some apps..
Does this still make a difference in jelly bean? or does the tripple buffering and vsync mean it has no improvment.
Also what about disable HW overlays does that improve performance??
Thanks!
Anyone?

With jb you don't have to use that anymore no longer have to disable hw everything works perfect without

[ROOT] GLTools v1.05 (chainfire-3D) hight quality games

gltools it is like chainfire-3d and newer with new gpus .. with new option fake gpu ..
tested on : realboxing with adreno 332
asphalt-8 with mali, adreno ,tegra3 .......
nfs mw with tegra3 ..
Features list:
- Change resolution and rendering bitness in any app, even if it doesn't support that by default.
- Change GPU name and enjoy enhanced graphics even on a noname low-end GPU.
- Take full control over textures: now you can decompress/recompress them (even if your GPU doesn't support that texture format) and resize. Note that decompression feature is available only if you'll install a plugin (internet is required to do that)
- Optimize shaders on-the-fly for optimal performance (the same optimizer is used in Unity3D engine by default)
- Enable MSAA or CSAA in any app to improve graphics quality (make sure that your GPU supports that)
- Measure gained performance with a nice onscreen FPS counter (or you can output FPS information to Logcat if you are a pro)
GLTools is 100% safe if you have a custom recovery installed (and you didn't disable backup in GLTools install dialog).

Ohhh my God !! That's what I had been looking for months. Thanks a lot op for this damn amazing tool.
Ms. Asphalt I'm on the way to you

I tryed it before this thread being made but didn't find any differences.Maybe i dont configure it properly
If someone try it and get a better gameplay please give us the properly setting to try it one more time. And the good fact is that gltools can use chainfire plugins

I didn't really got better gameplay, as Asphalt 8 on max settings was already running for me at 30FPS.
But I do got to play Tegra exclusive games.
If you fake your gpu to Tegra 3, you can play Tegra 3 games too. Not really smooth(20-25fps) but it works. Haven't tested Tegra 4.
for asphalt8 try adreno 320 .. and make sure in game that graphique setting in hight ... try albs map .. u will see biiiiiggggg difffff good luck ...
Hey, how about sharing your findings/ tweaks/ tricks back on the main thread? I think that’s what the OP wanted (feedbacks) and its far more easier to read in a single thread instead of looking here and there.. just my 2 cents..
Excuse me a question
the GLTools S2 plus works with android 4.2.2??
yep it works now there is another version 1.07 support's fake cpu .... u can make quad cpu .. good luck

i enabled aa and some stuff none of them worked, it just didnt open
BTW how can i fake my GPU as tegra 4? for RGP2
hi . my device is xperia ray android 4.2.2 paranoid i want to play game with performance and smooth and lagless . what setting you suggest me ? for example i want play injustice gods among us in my device ( i use full and latest version of gtool)
Im on android 4.2.2
When I use fake cpu and gpu option on a game...The game opens then closes immediately..
Why? THANKS
It`s work on CM12 ??
and where the link ?

Hi. I'm having a problem with my GLTools. I installed it and granted it SU permissions, enabled custom settings, optimised GPS settings, etc for Nvidia Shield exclusive games: "Portal" and "Half-Life 2" which runs on the Tegra 4 template, however the app crashes after the Valve logo, as it would without the GLTools app. I have installed the apk and downloaded all the correct data for the apps. How can I get this app to start working correctly with my Tegra apps so they can run on my phone without crashing before they start? I contacted the developer. He was no help. I have an LG Optimus G running on Android 4.1.2. Thanks for your help and have a great day!
P.S. The settings in GLTools that I have tried for both of my apps include: Enable custom settings for this app, optimise GLSL shades, use fake GPU info, use a template (Tegra 4), simple mapbuffer emulation, software VBO emulation, use packed stencil buffer, half-float texture hack, fix FBO attachment sizes, and decode sRGB.

Reduce or improve gfx quality

I have a game I've been playing for years on my mobile that runs without issues, it's available on shield "war commander rogue assault" but the gfx settings are so high that it runs crap, I've tried using the app optimiser built into the ROM (activating all cores and reducing resolution) but has had no impact and reducing resolution just shrinks the display into a pip display type mode.. I haven't tried any other games yet but guessing I'll have similar issues..
I'm using the 5.4.1 custom ROM image, and the k10 overclock kernel, I've also enabled the forcing of GPU 2d and 4x msaa but no luck.. any input would be appreciated thanks

Are these facts correct?

4X MSAA increases gaming performance?
Peaople still believe that 4x msaa in developer options is a magical button for gaming. MSAA means MultiSample Anti Aliasing . Aliasing means clear edges of a frame which are not plain. Anti-aliasing makes those edges blurry & look like they are plain. So, the graphics experience slightly improves. But 4 times anti aliasing(4x msaa) is an extra process. It's good for highend devices to get better graphics. But how can it improve "Performance" in a lowend device? I found no logic.
Force gpu rendering is good for battle royale games?
This is a popular feature for people who plays battle royale games. But it's clearly written on the description "Force use gpu to render 2d images". Fun fact is battle royale games are 3d. So gpu is already used to render the graphics there. Wtf will improve by literally forcing gpu to render 2d images for games?
Activating Force 4x MSAA setting in Android Developer Options, you can enjoy a better gaming performance on outdated devices: It forces your phone to use 4x multisample anti-aliasing in OpenGL 2.0 games and apps. However, enabling this setting can drain your smartphone's battery faster.
On devices which renders graphics using OpenGL 3x it's useless.
