I have not owned a device that has been multiple carriers for the same hardware except the Moto X and the Nexus 5. My question is in regards differences in the carriers and any software oir settings in the rom files. Can every U.S. Nexus 5 flash the exact same rom without issues unlike say for instance a Sprint HTC One owner accidentally flashing a T-Mobile rom and messing up the phone needing a lot of work to fix.
Will those of us on Sprint be able flash all roms available for the Nexus 5 or will we have to wait for ports of them like we had to on the Galaxy Nexus?

Couple questions:
Why is it different for verizon vs other carriers? basically, Why can us verizon users not use the same method used for sprint, Tmobile or ATT?
regardless of the carrier you are on, once you are rooted can you flash any ROM? Example, Say I root when I get my phone (From verizon) and root, there are several choices Id be interested in the international S3 development. I saw a couple instances where US version phones had some issues flashing some of those ROM's.
IF there are issues with flashing certain ROM's, how do you know which will be safe for US version phones?
I am coming from a rooted thunderbolt and I dont recal ever having to worry about these issues, which is why I am looking fro clarification. Thank you for your help in advance. Seeing several cases of bricked phones, I'm just wanting to make sure I fully understand.
us variants use a different chip set then the international versions of the s3. Lots of threads about it

You didn't have to worry about this because with your Thunderbolt, your xda forum wasn't joined with the other provider variants of the Thunderbolt. I think the fact that xda joined all the carriers together is going to end up with more people that don't understand how this whole thing works and more bricked phones.
The international phones are more like the droid incredible s and incredible 2 difference. They're both world phones but one is international. They seem to be 100% identical but they aren't and therefor cannot accept each others Roms (on 99%
Of the cases) just be sure t read the op of any Rom u are interested in. They will say not to flash if u are or aren't an international phone

Since the Nexus 5 is one phone for every carrier (except Verizon of course) will I have to install a ROM made for Sprint Nexus 5 if I am on Sprint? I figure since I can order one phone from the play store and activate it on whichever network I want that it will be the same for ROMs, I download one Nexus 5 ROM and just install it. They should be universal since the american n5 works on all 3 carriers, perhaps the euro spec n5 might need their own euro rom but since the difference is only related to the modem hardware i think one rom will rule them all since the modem normally isn't flashed with a rom.
I am a Verizon customer and have also been playing around with Straight Talk ATT with a Nexus 5 and a OnePlus One (luck invite). Where I live east of Cleveland, the only reliable signal is with Verizon. I do not like any of the phones available now on Verizon. I am thinking about buying a GN and flashing CM11 on it to make it ASOP without Verizon's fingerprints all over it.
How capable is the GN in a land of apps being developed for Quad core phones and how much longer would the GN be useable? I can flash using ADB/Fastboot and am pretty capable of doing most of the stuff I need to do to mod a phone.
Just wanting to hear some users who are currently using their GN as a daily and if it is a capable device for 2014-2015.

I plan to switch from T-Mobile to Sprint after being with T-Mobile for almost 10 years. The 2 main reasons I'm looking to switch from T-Mobile to Sprint, is that Sprint is the only other provider that offer native WiFi calling (not Skype, etc) and also have a much better 4G network.
That being said, I have been using Samsung phones for the past few years and love them (although I really haven't used anything else besides these 2 models and a Blackberry) - first was the Galaxy SII and now the Note 3. I see that Sprint offer the Note 3 and Note 4 as well as the Note Edge, the Nexus 6, LG G Flex, and other Phablet phones.
My question is this (I know this question has been asked a million times before), of the Phablet phones offered by Sprint, are there any better or recommended models for someone like myself who would like to 'root' them, or even install a custom ROM? (on my Note 3, I only rooted it, but was looking at installing a custom ROM to mainly get rid of all the bloatware). I see that some forums recommend 'not' going with Samsung because of Knox concerns when rooting.

But because I remember how much life sucked pre Nexus, 5,6,6p on Sprint, I was just wondering if this variant of the s8 is destined to live a stock rom life? I see the international and TMobile and att versions etc are already flourishing, but not a whole lot here.
Just trying to make my decision of do I upgrade or finally move to a gsm carrier.

Most of those roms are Universal for all carriers. You just have to flash your sprint CSC/Userdata to get all network features. Check Verizon or ATT threads.
