I have this phone which has the GB obtained from Samsung web site. I then rooted with J Scott option 2. Since then I dont have messaging. What can I do to get this back? I have an app that I use but not really satisfied with that. Can I go back to Aroyo, or try to download GB again. I tried Kies again, but it doesn;t give me any option to download again. I have read hundreds of pages w/o an answer, followed many links only to have spam loaded to my computer. Thanks for any help.

You can go back to Froyo using GTG's Unbrick. Link in my sig. And then you can get Gingerbread here. I recommend option C. If you prefer Heimdall to Odin, there are links to those packages in the ISET thread.
Thank you. I'll let you know what happens.

I did the unbrick and messaging appears to be working. SU icon is in the apps but I don't think it is working. I tested with root test from apps store and it said it was rooted. What should I do next? Do I still need to do the second thing suggested above? Thanks again

If you're on Froyo and root was successful, then you can stay there. Do the second step if you want to move up to Gingerbread.

Follow the instructions in this thread to move up to ICS or JB. Some of the ICS roms and all JB roms (I think) use the MTD file system so make sure you backup your EFS before making the move upward. There are instructions in the linked thread for making an EFS backup. Make sure to read carefully before you attempt anything.
Of course, the first step is to see if you have a custom recovery. It will be your launch pad to sweeter future.

Power down the phone. Then hold Vol+, Vol-, and the Power button when you turn it back on. Once white SAMSUNG comes up, release the power button. This will take you into recovery. At the top, it will tell you which recovery you have: Android 3e (secure) or red CWM (custom).

My instructions were a little unclear the first time around. Try again with the instructions below.
1) Power down the phone
2) Hold Vol+, Vol-, and Power
3) When the white SAMSUNG logo comes up, let go of the Power button only. Continue to hold down Vol+ and Vol-.
This should get you into recovery.

No problem. I'm not sure why the phone won't boot into recovery. I can only speculate but I'm sure there's someone who can shed some light on the issue. If this was my phone, I would flash the UCBL3 Unbrick in Odin b/c it'll re-establish the original partitions, give you GB and root at the cost of losing all the info on your phone. Then you can use flash a custom kernel to get red CWM. From there, you can move on to ICS or JB. Let me know how things turn out.

3.disconnect the device from the PC and turn it off
4.Switch in recovery
5.nel recovery menu to wipe ALL

7.lanciare the installation
8.alla end of the recovery procedure to restart the system

THIS IS THE EUROPEAN FIRMWARE, there is also a asian one but I don't have the time to search for it now. But because you are flashing later anyway the custom firmware this shouldn't make a difference.
Instruction
1. Go into the Download mode as instructed on top. As soon as the screen with the exclamation mark appears hit the Volume up-button. Now you should be in the download mode Connect your device to the Computer.
2. Download this file https://rapidshare.com/files/2528654376/Samsung_Galaxy_W_I8150XXKK1__EUR_.rar
and extract all the files.
3. Open Odin Multi Downloader v4.43.exe .
4. click on the OPS-Button and select die Ancora.ops file.
5. Set up the settings as followed:
mark the option: One Package, Protect OPS
unmark the option: Auto Reboot, Reset Time (Sec)
6.Click on the One Package-Button and select the downloaded MD5-file.
7. Click on the Start-Button. Flashing takes around 10-15 minutes. and the first start up takes up to 5 min., so please don't panic.

Good luck and good night, it is 3:30AM in Germany ^^.

You do know that Quadrant scores mean nothing right?
As Chainfire once said: "However, if you put any trust in Quadrant scores you could use them to prove that dancing naked for 5 minutes in your garden affects device performance."
A lot of people have been starting new threads asking how to reset their phone to stock in order to return it to Verizon with all their modifications undetected. It's really simple and easy to do.
This is to remove any ROM you've installed, un-root and re-lock your bootloader. I'll also post a link to reset your flash counter if you've tripped it.
Basically I'm just going to post a few links to guides that are already here.
-First is to backup:
Backup literally everything on your phone and external sd card just to be safe. Just imagine that if you lost your phone what you would've wanted backed up. (I'm not saying you're going to mess up your phone, just that the internal sd card will be wiped clean. Pics, settings, videos, etc... all wiped off the internal card. Backup up your ext is just to have your bases 100% covered, none of this process actually uses your ext card. You can just remove it if you'd like also.
-Second, Check your Flash counter:
More than likely unless you've been flashing custom stuff through Odin you haven't tripped it. In otherwords if you haven't used Odin or just rooted your phone using Odin and then flashed everything else in CWM or TWRP, you haven't tripped it.
To check your flash counter you need to enter download mode - 'Vol down+Home button+Power button'
You will need to be in download mode for the next step anyways, so just doublecheck the counter first.
If you have tripped it, use this app from the play store Triangle Away
-Third is to flash the stock rooted image via Odin:(This image version will re-lock your bootloader and un root you)
Go to section #5 of this Guide and follow the instructions. Use the UN rooted official version and Just to clarify, there is really only ONE option to choose if you plan on returning your phone to Verizon.(Official VRALG1 4.0.4)
(Shortcut to the file if you are familiar and already have Odin, Here)
-Lastly, perform a wipe via recovery just for safety's sake:
Hold 'Volume up+Home button+Power' from your phone being power off. And do this BEFORE you boot up the stock version otherwise you could get stuck in a bootloop and have to do a battery pull.
It's that simple and this will leave your phone in an "out of the box" state therefor safe to return to Verizon without them catching on.

yes because the stock odin package has the secure aboot.img. the relock function on the ez unlock app is pointless. the only time the bootloader should be locked is when flashing back to stock.

What is needed to remove the custom unlock icon on boot, or does VZ not care about that? I'm looking to bring my phone in to get my GPS issue resolved.

I just had to do thus tonight. I had to re-root then installed ez-unlock then pressed lock and then reinstalled the stock image through Odin again and everything worked after that

So I re-rooted and went to a nandroid backup that I had then started the process over again. I did not re-lock my phone and odined to Root66 first, did a system wipe/cache wipe. Then I Odined the stock image and I no longer get the unlocked image on boot.

Credit goes more to Droidstyle and the people who supply us the files and the know how to begin with. Honestly I just got tired of seeing twenty threads about the same thing so I wrote this up and asked one of the MODs to sticky it lol
If i trip the counter and i can only boot into dowload/odin mode how can i reset counter back to zero? My phone wont boot up it gets stuck at 4gLTE screen and i cant boot into a recovery.
Go to section 6 in the droidstyles guide(the link in my sig or in the OP) and follow it. It should get up and running so you can use triangle away.

Various things to do with what you're describing:
update recovery to the latest (read stickies to find it), only apply the mod for your rom and phone; a mod for samsung rom A will crash rom B, and you can also read the stickies again in case you missed something.

I don't mean to be rude but it seems you're ignoring my call for you to read the stickies. Please read them they will help help you!
According to your signature you have an old recovery. You can find latest official CWM 6033 here and you can find 6037 here.
If you want TWRP instead of CWM you can get that here. There is a problem with the preload partition that Samsung based Jelly Bean roms have, read about that here.

The answer to what apps you can remove are there. The answer to issues with restoring backups are also in the stickies. The answer to installing UCMC1 mods on the UCMC1 rom correctly also lies in the stickies (use the latest recovery). Good luck to you man
I rooted my atrix 2, i installed BBM and reboot my mobile and install mokee 4.4.2
after that my atrix 2 is not booting allthough it show Motorola "M" sign and than blank screen .i m not able to recover my mobile using BBM
.i m able to go into android recovery but not know what to do
Good thing I keep this in case I forgot:
If you don't have the original FW for your Atrix 2 anymore, you should download the PROPER ROM for your Atrix 2.
Download the AT&T version here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=17
Doesn't matter if GB or ICS. First time you did it is via ICS though. Just make sure it is an AT&T FXZ file, not Retail Asia, Chinese or Indian. AT&T *AT&T*!!!!
Download proper drivers for your phone
Download RSDLite
Follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
--or--
Turn off
Remove battery
Make sure you uncompressed the FXZ
Attach battery
Press Vol UP, DOWN and POWER simultaneously
Select AP Fastboot
On RSD Lite:
Select the FXZ file
Connect USB
Start FLASHING!
AND WAIT!
Wait until the "Please power up manually the phone" shows up in RSDLite
Power the phone up
Do not close the RSDLite yet, wait 'til it says FINISHED
Okay?

Well, I have the AT&T version of the Atrix 2 so I should download *ONLY* AT&T ROM.
In your case, it does matter if your phone is AT&T or Asian models. Please download the correct FXZ for your phone.
Good luck! :good:

I really didn't have this kind of error when I was flashing my A2.
Maybe you could try it in a different PC.
I should ask, what ROM version did you download (ICS or GB)? And what model is your phone, AT&T (MB865) or Asian models (ME865)?

If you've already attempted flashing ICS on your AT&T Atrix 2 then DO NOT try to flash GB. It WILL brick your phone, that is, if it hasn't already. There is only one FXZ that you can flash on that phone and that is the AT&T ICS FXZ. Find and download that before trying anything else.
( @Raeshabu already gave you all the info and links that you need. )

Oh no!
You have flashed Retail Asia (MEARET) version of the FXZ. I really don't know if you will be able to flash anything again after that.
Could you tell if your A2 has AT&T logo below the home keys? If yes, then you SHOULD download and flash ONLY AT&T FXZ.
I suggest flashing the ICS ROM as that is the one that worked for me.
And also, if you're using a PC please use the USB ports in the back panel as much as possible. And keep your battery charged! :good:
Good luck!

Yes, after you get the proper FXZ flashed rooting is pretty simple.

Hey, I Googled your problem and it seems that it might be because:
1. RSD Lite does not recognize your phone
2. You don't have the correct drivers for your device.
2. Your USB cable might be faulty
Although, I am not 100% sure if these were the cause of your problems, but it might be...
Edit:
I have experienced your situation just moments ago. My A2 won't get past the mbm flashing.
I think your battery's power is too low for it to accept any flashing. I charged my phone up until 30% and tried flashing again, and voila it got through all of it.
I suggest you charge your phone again with a wall charger (to a wall socket), not on your PC. If it got through the charging screen, you're one lucky guy like me.
***
So, let's narrow up your problem..
1. Have you tried using a different USB cable?
2. Or on a different USB port?
3. Have you installed proper Motorola Drivers?
4. Have you got any message from Fastboot that your "Battery is too low"
I recommend downloading this file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/51gmzrtjx4vrmed/Tools.rar
The zip file have the Motorola drivers, RSD Lite, ICS Root and Boot Menu Manager.
Credits to arnab.
***
Install first the Motorola drivers before you flash again.
Good luck!

Hello guys, with this guide you can restore Stock Firmware Images for all Galaxy Tab 4 Series.
This is useful to restore firmware in case something goes wrong, if you flash a custom ROM and it fails, or, for example, if Samsung decides to update this devices to Lollipop. For this you also will need stock untouched firmware.
Pre-requisites:
1) Make a backup of everything you consider important: Apps, photos, music, etc.
2) Download drivers for your specific device from HERE, install the drivers and reboot your PC to apply changes.
3) Download Odin 3.0.9, it is attached below in this post, and extract it.
4) Download the firmware image for your specific device from HERE and extraxt the file inside, it should be a huge 1GB+ size *.tar.md5 file.
5) Make sure your device's battery is at 60% or more.
6) Enable USB Debugging on Settings > General > Developer Options (If you can't find Developer Options menu, go to Settings > General > About Device and tap several times on Build Number, then it will tell you Dev Options is enabled).
Lets start:
1) Run Odin 3.09 as Administrator (in Windows right click on Odin icon and select "Run as Administrator")
2) Turn off your tablet and now turn it on in Download Mode (press Home + Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time until the tablet turns on, then when prompted, press Volume Up button to proceed)
3) Now connect your tablet to PC via USB cable. Odin should show a plugged device and an ADDED! message, like this:
If you can't get Odin to recognise your device, check which drivers you installed or try another USB cable.
4) Make sure that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are selected, like this:
5) Now check the AP option and press the AP button to find and select the firmware image (the *.tar.md5 file you extracted earlier), when you select the image, Odin will check if it has errors. If everything is OK, it should say it succesfully checked it, like this:
6) You are ready to rock, so, hit the START button and wait...
7) Go, watch TV, chat with friends, make a sandwich or play Chess with your cat.
8) Once completed, you will see the Pass! message in ID:COM section, with a green background. Your tablet should auto reboot automatically.
9) Unplug your tablet.
10) Enjoy all the bloatware once again!
Thanks for reading and if you have doubts, let us know in the comments.
Cheers!!!
Thank You!
Thanks Man! Custom ROMS are fun but it sucks when something is not working right that which was working perfectly in the Stock ROM. Will wait patiently. hope Lollipop comes to SM-T230NU soon

Yes, here
Or here if you've got a 7.0
I cannot for the life of me get my tab to stay in download mode while flashing. It makes it as far as a quarter though the system partition then it just reboots back to the "firmware encountered an issue" screen. As far as I know the battery has more than enough if not a full charge!! HEEEEEEELP!!!!

Will restore of stock firmware overwrite custom recovery
Hi... just finally got my Tab 4 8.0 rooted by using custom recovery and special kernel. I love having root, but in the event i have to send the tablet in for any kind of warranty repair, i just want to know if simply ODIN flashing the stock 5.1.1 firmware will restore the stock recovery and reset my knox counter and stuff... Any details greatly appreciated!

It will definitely restore the stock recovery. Idk about resetting the flash counter, my instinct tells me no but that could be wrong. If worst comes to worst and you do have to send it in under warranty, tell them Kies broke it, that's worked for me and a few of my friends even with the knox counter tripped lmao. And if you want the quickest firmware file downloads, check out this thread. About a 5 minute download versus anywhere from 2-8 hours from any other host (seriously, it's awful).
How can I know when the flash is done?
Thank you for this helpful guide. I used this to upgrade my Samsung Tab 4 8.0 from 4.4.2 KitKat to Lollipop 5.1.1.
May I suggest, OP, adding a note on how to know when the flashing is over. I mistakenly thought that all the boxes on the top half (the row that begins with with a green "Pass" box) would all be colored. But the users should know that the flash is over when you see the green Pass box.
Please see my attached screenshot.
thanks for bringing my tablet back to life!
I played chess with my cat.... and lost. Thank you for this, my Tab has been shut away in shame for a while, and I decided to bring it back out again.
