[Q] Sound when power phone on and off - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone noticed a hollow pop sound when powering the screen off and on?
Its not every time but more often then not.
Thanks!

Yes, go to your System Settings, Sound & look in there - called "Screen Lock Sound"
Turn it off & while you are at it, turn off vibrate & scroll thru others that you can adjust/tune or turn off - good for "better" battery life too.
Enjoy !

Atom O2 Plus Bug ? Need confirmation from other users.

I have noticed this bug on my Atom with O2 Plus and need confirmation from other users before I try to feedback to their support.
I have found that my Atom intermittently does not sound Notifications and Alarms. Couldn't figure why for awhile then I discovered this workaround :
1.
Using O2 Plus, switch profile to Silent. You will notice speaker icon on the top bar shows muted.
2.
Switch profile back to Normal. The icon at the top bar now shows the speaker as ON (but actually notifications and remoinders will now fail i.e. not sounding)
3.
Go to Settings / Sounds & Notifications / Notifications
On the Event drop down, select reminders
4.
You will see your notification alarm sound with a "test play" button.
Hit the test play button a couple of times, then wait a few seconds.
5.
You will mysteriously see the speaker status in the top bar change to MUTE !!! Click on it, turn speaker back on, close all the windows. Your notifications will now sound correctly at the appointed alarms and calendar times.
It seems the O2 Plus profile when switching back from silent to normal does not do a full job in turning on the notification sounds, just system sound or something like that.
If you carry out this procedure everytime you switch your profile you will no longer have missing / silent notifications !
Can other users confirm this bug / phenomenon ?
Anyone able to write a simple proggy or script to do the above procedure automatically ?
Haven't noticed it before, and I haven't missed any notifications, but you're right.
yeah i noticed this!!!THANKS FOR THE FIX!
just to add.besides notifications, you also lose screen taps when switching from different profiles.this apparently is not fixed by your solution.

[Q] No Complete silent mode?

So, I just got my Nexus S (Yes!)
During daytime I keep the phone in vibration mode (texts, email, phone calls, whatever). But at night I'd like to keep it completely silent, so no vibrations either. I can't seem to find the right mode tough.
Of course I could go to settings and switch vibration to never every night, but this should be easier right?
My old HTC Hero had a ringtone mode / vibration mode / silent mode at the side buttons but the NS doesn't seem to work that way.
Any ideas??
install Audio Manager
yes it can completely go silent or just vibrates
there are many bars of audio control
the short cuts only has access to like half of them
that's why you need a 3rd party app
Hold the power on button, there should be a "Silent Mode" option. That should keep your phone silent. Make sure to also check your Sound settings to Vibrate "Only when not in silent mode." Handy option.
Edit: You can also hold the power button and put your phone in "Airplane" Mode. When you turn off Airplane mode in the morning, all the emails/calls/texts or whatever will update.
Btw... slightly off topic but related: the vibration on the Nexus S is horrifically weak. I never ever feel it. Even in my hand, it's very weak.
no, that silent mode is fake
is not true silent, other music, alerts, etc, still sounds even when set to silent mode
re: vibration... exchange it for another phone, mine is very strong, i posted i topic about it
my old SGS had a weak vibration, compared to the SNS
Ahhh yes, i see it now.
I put the vibration to always when not in silent mode and the ringtones to "silent". So now I have a vibration mode and a silent mode, but no ringtone mode. Exactley how I like it! Thanks!
Re: vibration, mine is very "high" so to say compared to my old phone, but I'm starting to like it. Its just enough vibration...
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

[Q] Disable system beep?

Now that my Motorola Defy with f/w 2.51.1 is finally rootable I've killed all the annoying sounds in the system/media/audio/ui folder.
But there's one annoying sound that escaped: the system beep.
This beep sounds whenever I press a volume button when there's no media player or call active.
So when I want to reduce the volume of my phone (without going into silent mode), turning the sound down three notches generates three beeps. When I shoot a picture, zooming in three levels generates three beeps, even with the camera shutter sound disabled. Removing a USB cable also makes my phone beep.
This beep doesn't come from any sound file in the system/media/audio folder, and turning the system or notification volume down to zero doesn't silence it. Maybe the system beep is generated by a system app running in the background?
Question: is there a way to disable this system beep? (No, not by putting the entire phone in silent mode.)
pls!
Bump up!
PPL - please help this dude (and me - because i also hate this sound ^_^)
Maybe someone have some idea?
...anything? anyone?
Rly no way to get rid of it?
same here i hate the sound
Solved by software
The program name is "Android Assistant" Setting the slider "system volume" to zero removes the sound. The vibration still remains, but not so annoying.
Doesn't work. Volume buttons keep beeping.

[Q] Unlock sound just started working...

My Nexus S 4G has been running Gingerbread since I got it upon its release. Until a couple weeks ago, I never used the screen lock feature. Now I'm using the pattern unlock. Works great. When I lock the screen with the Power button, I hear a faint 'click' sound. This is the lock sound. It's always done that. When I unlock with the pattern, no sound. It's always done that. The other day, I got the Ice Cream Sandwich update. Still using the pattern unlock. Still no sound when I unlock with the pattern. Today, for no obvious reason, my phone is playing a sound when I unlock it with the pattern. (Actually, I just turned off screen lock altogether and it plays a sound when I just turn the screen on with the Power button.) I see alot of people are having issues getting their unlock sound to play. I don't want the unlock sound. It's annoying, especially if I'm having a texting conversation. Is there any way to stop the unlock sound from playing? Thanks.
check your sound settings and untick the screenlock sound
Nope
Unchecking the Screen lock sound in Settings only removes the screen lock sound -- the faint click sound. Ghe unlock sound is still being played.
Media Volume
I don't know about ICS, but in Gingerbread, the screen lock sound volume (and keyboard ticks for that matter) are dependent of the level of the media volume. So if you have your media volume down all the way, you won't hear the lock sound (or keyboard click).
To change media volume in Gingerbead (should be similar in ICS)
from home screen..
menu>settings>Sound>Volume>adjust slider to the right to increase, left to decrease
OR
You can just play some music/game sounds and push the volume up button.
hope that helps!
That's weird...
Since my last post, I hadn't changed anything. The screen lock sound was disabled. The next day, the unlock sound stopped playing. I figured it must've had something to do with the fact that screen lock sound was disabled. I re-enable screen lock sound. Now, the screen lock sound (the faint click) plays but now there is no unlock sound -- just the way I like it and the way it used to be before I started this thread. I've noticed some other annoying things with ICS since it's been installed (like not always showing the contact info/picture for an incoming call even though their CallerID number is being displayed). I'll just chalk this up to annoying behavior. Thanks for the replies.

I can not seem to turn off the Speaker.

In a meeting kept getting IMs, and the watch beeped every time. It was distracting and I was annoying people in the room so I pulled down the settings and clicked on the speaker icon. The symbol is now the speaker with the line through it but the sound is not Disabled !!!!!!
What can I be doing wrong ? In some situations it is inappropriate for the watch to make sounds but I can not turn sound off.
hello,
never happen to me, I will investigate and if possible give you feedback.
regards

Not sure if you are new in android. Android has 3 volume for adjustment. You need to control them one by one. You mute the media volume, but you will still get sound from notification, or ring.
Check out more audio option in the option menu, not the quick slide down icons.

It also has One Setting to turn the Speaker On and Off. This is what did not work yesterday.
Turn the Speaker off at the meeting on again when it ends. Easy if it worked
Looks like the App "Feel the Wear" was causing this issue.
The developer updated the app and now turning the speaker off mutes notifications.
