I have noticed this bug on my Atom with O2 Plus and need confirmation from other users before I try to feedback to their support.
I have found that my Atom intermittently does not sound Notifications and Alarms. Couldn't figure why for awhile then I discovered this workaround :
1.
Using O2 Plus, switch profile to Silent. You will notice speaker icon on the top bar shows muted.
2.
Switch profile back to Normal. The icon at the top bar now shows the speaker as ON (but actually notifications and remoinders will now fail i.e. not sounding)
3.
Go to Settings / Sounds & Notifications / Notifications
On the Event drop down, select reminders
4.
You will see your notification alarm sound with a "test play" button.
Hit the test play button a couple of times, then wait a few seconds.
5.
You will mysteriously see the speaker status in the top bar change to MUTE !!! Click on it, turn speaker back on, close all the windows. Your notifications will now sound correctly at the appointed alarms and calendar times.
It seems the O2 Plus profile when switching back from silent to normal does not do a full job in turning on the notification sounds, just system sound or something like that.
If you carry out this procedure everytime you switch your profile you will no longer have missing / silent notifications !
Can other users confirm this bug / phenomenon ?
Anyone able to write a simple proggy or script to do the above procedure automatically ?
Haven't noticed it before, and I haven't missed any notifications, but you're right.
yeah i noticed this!!!THANKS FOR THE FIX!
just to add.besides notifications, you also lose screen taps when switching from different profiles.this apparently is not fixed by your solution.

I have the T-mobile S7.
Ever since I got my S7 when I have my phone on silent or vibrate, when an email comes in with my Gmail the notification sound plays. I have work email on my phone, but those new emails don't play through when on silent. Some other notifications also play through. I think from Google Hangouts and TXT messages. And I think Visual Voicemail notifications.
I can't seem to find anyone talking about this in my research. I have had several OTA updates from T-mobile and the issue is still there. I can't seem to figure out why some things have notifications that sound when the phone is in silent and vibrate mode. I have never had a phone do this before.
UPDATE: 2016.04.10
I still have the issue. I attached a screenshot of what is going on. The Media volume slider is not muting when I switch to Vibrate or Silent modes. The phone has had several OTA updates since I bought it and this still doesn't get fixed. I have the Moto G 3rd gen with Marshmallow as well and it doesn't have this issue. never had a phone with this issue. I am getting really tired of the work around, which is to manually mute and unmute the Media volume which takes several steps each.
I have two S7's and both have this issue.
Also, please don't suggestion the Do Not Disturb feature. Unless there is a way to have a simple toggle on and off of that feature with a pre-set of Total Silence, that solution does not help. So insane that silent mode is NOT silent!
Looks like I can toggle the DND shortcut and have moved it near the Mute/Sound/Vibrate button. Set DND to Total Silence. But still researching to see if the settings I use in the toggle affect the scheduled DND settings. As I only want Total Silence with the toggle, but at night I want my custom DND settings via the Scheduled DND.
Use macrodroid, e-robot or any other tasker-like app.
For MacroDroid, this particular macro does NOT require root:
1) Trigger volume button down, continue
2) Action Set music volume to media slider value 0
3) Constraint ringer volume is silent or vibrating
The above works ONLY when you use the volume down button. When the ringer volume reaches 0, it will also zero the media volume. It won't work if you use the Sound mode to change the ringer to silent or vibrate. You can program another macro to do the un-mute as well.
There are also other ways, such as through macro that is triggered by screen off, and change the media volume to 0 using the constraint of ringer volume being 0. This will work with Sound mode or DND, just not not immediately but when the screen turns off.
Sorry, I am looking for a stock method to this issue. Otherwise I think the general forum area would be a better place for me to ask about 3rd party apps. Right now I am still testing the DND options now that I see that I can toggle DND from the pulldown without having to choose DND options each time.
Darn it! DND is useless for this issue. If I leave the Sound toggle alone and on Sound, the DND does not affect things like unlock sound, key sounds, etc. etc. Silences calls and alarms, but the "total silence" option is NOT total silence. So I am still looking for a stock way to toggle mute and unmute of the entire sound system.
I just purchased a Note S8 and I'm having the same problem. There needs to be a simple and instant mute button so that if you need to mute in a hurry you can. If I am not overlooking it, it's ridiculous that they don't have them on these phones. I am used to using a Motorola and they always have had an easy way to quickly turn the sound off of my phone. The only way with this one is to hold down on the volume button and with a case it makes it even more difficult. I guess I'll just sit on it. $1000. Right.
del
Yeah, it's crazy. I now have 7.0.1 on my S7 and still no quick mute toggle with stock Android. And all my previous Android phones had a mute function that muted everything. Holding the volume button down does not mute all sounds. You have to press up or down, then mute the first slider which mutes all but Media, and then mute the media slider. THEN it's full silent. But I don't understand why it doesn't mute ALL sliders with 1 toggle via stock like it did on other phones.
the issue is still there on Galaxy S9....so freakin annoying
@sdho , yeah, it's insane! Android Oreo 8.x and we still don't have the simple mute function we had with much older versions of Android! By default muting should mute the Media slider too! If people want to only mute other sliders, THAT is what should then require the 2nd shade expansion to pick individual sliders. But 1 touch mute and vol down all the way, should mute ALL sliders by default.
I don't understand the programming decision to make the default the way it is!
PS: I now have the S9 Plus since launch.
Solved!
Just downloaded "Media Mute". Solved everything right away.
Thanks Choobaka, I now have Android Oreo 8.x with the Galaxy S9 Plus and still no improvement to stock 1 -swipe and touch mute. But thanks to your suggestion, while this can't be solved stock. At least it can now be solved without root and without any odd permissions. Thanks a ton. Trying it out now. So far it looks like that will do the trick for me.
After this update my led notifications stopped working.
Only fixed whatsapp notifications by turning it OFF and then ON in the application, but the groups notification LED doesn't work if the group was silenced (leaving the notification box checked). Then, if I disable the silence, LED for groups works again. But I only want LED for groups, I don't want sound.
I try to turn off all apps notifications and the turn ON in android settings but nothing.
Also disable notification LED in android settings and still the same.
My compilation is:
NRD90M.G30FXXU1DQAS
Everything works fine, but I hate the new notifications system on Nougat.
Any with the same problems?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.
Would like to see solution to this, my friend is also experiencing this

I tried this but dont' work. No led notification.
It seems that the led depends on the sound notifications.
Thanks anyway.
Well! This one is new for me. To be honest i did not found this problem which you discuss here. I like to come here to know the nature of problem and its possible solution.

Yes have the same problem with gmail, download silent sound 1 sec mp3 http://www.jetcityorange.com/silent-ringtone/
and put it in notifikation sound under storage/emulated/0/notifikation and set that sound in gmail app and the blue led will work again with no sound
autokat
As long as sound is on then you will get the LED notification light. If the phone is in vibrate or silent, you wont.

LED notification will work as long as the sound is turned on. If the phone is in vibrate or silent you wont get the LED notification. Stupid, I know.
This is not exactly true. I have my phone in silent mode and vibrate mode and the led indicators works just fine. But my girlfriends phone the led won't work at all except with sound on.
I join the discussion because I get the same problem, bu I'm using Go SMS pro. Missed calls worked fine, but in go sms, just the screen goes on and no LED in slience or sound mode ...
Wath to do ? I tried to place my notification sound into notifications folder, but without more success.
[EDIT] Flashed the lastest BL and CP and the v2.4.1 and everything (I only tested GO sms) seems to work !
[EDIT 2] LED does not work when sound off
same here
just updated my Samsung Note 5 to nougat and the LED notification do not work when the phone is set to vibrate only or silent... the led notifications only work when sound it on.
I have the same issue. I hope Samsung fixes this issue soon and also bring Adoptive Storage Back!!
I'm also having the same issue. Only with go sms pro so far and only when phone is on silent. Wondering if this is a nougat issue or if it's go sms pro...
Tried everything with the settings, it's on DND with sound on, had messages and whatsapp on "priority notification" ON but on "show silently" so I could still get the LED indicator, it worked very rarely on MESSAGES but never on Whatsapp. Tried clear partition, tried rebooting, tried clearing cache on the 2 apps, to no avail.
Finally, to get it DND with LED indicator on, it's not the best since I wanted the option to have sound ON for texts and whatsapp when DND is off.. but clearly that won't work.. is I have:
- LED indicator on
- DND on
- Messages and Whatsapp on PRIORITY notifications
- APP settings: sound is on SILENT & vibration is off for both
This fixes it for *some of the notifications* not even all the time as a perma-fix. This is very frustrating, as much as my One Plus X lacked in camera settings and such, this function and DND worked so seamlessly at the press of a button, literally the side button.
Smart phones have become so complex god knows what is overriding what so things are not working the way they are supposed to. This will have to do until it's fixed if ever :\ and I don't feel like downloading a 3rd party software that will collect more data and possibly cause more issues for this one small thing. Ugh.
I'm hoping the next update will solve this annoyance.. and that this will be a proper fix for now.
yes iam experience same thing on my galaxy s7 930f exynos iam using whatsapp and have sound notification off and no vibrations iether and there is no LeD on my phone only if i turn on sound but the thing is i dont want sound in group chats in whatsapp that can be to annoying but i only want led
wounder if it works if i update my phone to andriod Oreo ?

I posted yesterday about the facebook app being unable to retain any notification sound I've set for it once the app has been stopped. Well, there is another issue on the same phone. It may be related - I'm not sure. This OS is Android 7.0 (Nougat). The symptoms are below.
Two-symptom issue:
1) The 'call end tone' (which sounds like a pingy "bloop") cannot be disabled. The toggle slider can be turned off at Dialer > Settings > Call Alerts > Call end tone, but the tone still fires after each call disconnect.
2) The 'call end tone' not only fires after every phone call disconnect. But strangely, it also fires after any notification sound from another app has fired. For example, when Tapatalk or Facebook fire off a new message alert notification sound, the call end tone fires immediately afterwards. I also notice that each time the call end tone fires, a slash mark momentarily appears through the speaker icon on the notification strip.
I've tried wiping the cache partition and, as mentioned, toggling off all call alert settings. But none of that has worked. And by the way, this is the installation of Nougat that was on my S7 edge when I received it back from Samsung's repair center a few weeks ago. I'm hoping to avoid doing a factory reset. It looks like that may be the next step, though. Any thoughts?
Okay, I was wrong. It's not the 'call end tone' that I'm hearing at all. Instead, it's the same sound that fires when you change from silent or vibrate mode to audible mode. That little "bloop" is what's firing after every notification sound. I've checked and it's the following file: /system/media/audio/ui/TW_Silent_mode_off.ogg ... I'm not rooted so I can't remove or rename it.
So that's why the 'call end tone' toggle slider under Call Alerts has no effect on the little "bloop" sound. I only thought it was the 'call end tone' because it always fires when a call disconnects. But it's apparently just doing the same thing it does when each notification sound fires. Whatever the root cause, upon each sound event it seems to send a signal to briefly mute the speaker (hence the slash mark across the speaker icon for a split-second) and then immediately un-mutes it again. But I have no clue why. I thought it might have something to do with SoundAssistant -which I installed several days ago- but uninstalling it makes no difference. So I'm stumped.
I'm open for any ideas. The 'bloop' after every notification sound and call disconnect is driving me nuts. I'll probably do a factory reset if no one can think of anything else.
I've identified the cause. It's an app that normalizes the ringtone level, called 'Disable Increasing Ring.' When I toggle off its normalization mode, the problem is gone. The reason I even installed the app is because of the forced ascending ring volume for incoming calls that's imposed by Android 7.0. In my view, there's simply no excuse for Google/Samsung not to provide users an option of whether or not they want ringtone streams to ascend from weak to a normal volume level. Forcing that sort of thing upon everyone seems ridiculous. And of course it caused this headache for me. But it's their system... so oh well.
This is the topic on sony forum: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...pp-content-on-notifications/m-p/1282131#M9749
Can anyone else confirm that iussue? Are you able to silence the notifications...without they "come back" to be active by theirself? Is very annoying...
Even if i set on oreo app notification "low"....when a i receive a message it turn on automatically on "urgent" again...
I found a trick by myself. The problem is that the notification channel on android oreo reguarding an application "prevails" on the settings within the application itself, in this case whatsapp. If we want, as in my case, to receive notifications of a new message only in the notification bar (without pop-up on the screen) and without sound, it will not be enough to adjust the settings only within the application, but we will have to do it in the new "notification channels" introduced with oreo. However, there is one however, if we set the notification when a new message arrives on "low" (without sound and without visual interruption) at the next message, Oreo will change "by itself" this setting on high , with sound and pop-up screen. Even within the application itself the settings will be changed with the sound on, while those regarding the pop-up notification will remain the same, although the pop-up will be displayed theanyway. The only way to prevent Oreo from overwriting and shaking our settings is this: 1) Adjust the desired settings within the application (no sound, vibration on, NO pop-up) then go to the notification channel of whatsapp and set the importance of the message received on "high", then click on it and change the ringtone to "none". In this way we will to not receive the pop-up on screen notification and settings will be respected. It seems to work, although this morning the urgency of the notification was back on "urgent". Again changed, and seems to be back to normal now. Let me know your experience about that.
I have 2 apps installed, WhatsApp and Ring Doorbell that are not giving me sound notifications. For me the volume on this device is not very loud. I work in a noisy environment and need loud volume. My last phone (Note 5) I did that sound mod changing the volume xml file and used very loud notification sounds (mp3) and it was perfect. So I took those sound files from the Note and put them into the Mi 10 Ultra in Ringtones folder and set them. Since then I get no sound notifications.
I did some digging and found an app 'Hidden Settings for MIUI' and set it to 'play sounds', but that didn't fix the issue either. I'm completely new to MIUI and am all out of ideas. Its strange, but when I open the phone, the WhatsApp notification sound beeps to let me know I have a message, but I have to open the phone, if its sitting in my pocket I get no notification. Ring Doorbell is not working at all as far as notifications go. Nothing. If someone who knows MIUI could give me some help it would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: shouldn't have wasted my time
That's it for me. SIM out and back to my Note 5. Great phone but the software is atrocious, if I had of known the nightmare this would be I wouldn't have bought this phone. So now it goes back into its box where it will stay, 6 months 1 year I don't care, until there is an alternative to using this absolute mess that MIUI is. A real shame, but something as simple as a couple of apps really is the deal breaker for me. Maybe I'll sell it? Global ROM? Who knows ....but for now its a useless device that can't even run a couple of apps? That is as bad as it gets. Its privacy settings are the worst I have ever seen. Disguised as 'protecting you' but in reality its the other way around. If I wanted to be locked out and locked in and locked down I would have bought an Apple iPhone. Xiaomi makes good phones, but their MIUI software is the worst I have ever seen. I would not recommend anyone buy this device.
I actually was facing this problem and found out a fix. You just have to turn vibration on. For some reason some apps don't make a sound if it doesn't have vibration on for notifications.

I have Ring doorbell and Whatsapp working (sort of) as sometimes they are delayed.
I had to change settings/notifications/ring and set rules for notification as important and also make sure all notification settings are on
Then fo to settings/apps/manage apps/ring and make sure Autostart is on and set permissions to make sure the bottom 4 are set to green ticked. Then make sure restrict data usage set to WLAN and Mobile data and then set Battery Saver to No restrictions.
Hopefully it will work after that. Do similar things to other apps that may not be making notifications correctly.
PS I'm using China ROM
So I had this issue and figured out a sure way to get sound notifications working.
You just have to turn vibration on in the subtype of notification for said specific app. If you don't want vibration on all notifications for that specific app turn it off otherwise.
Here is the thing that helped me with the same notification issue! Just google "xiaomi mi 10 ultra notifications" and in the top 5 links you'll probably find an article from:
theunpopulartraveller. It explains the settings, and they need to be accessed by pressing and holding the app icon ^ app info.
Don't give up, try and you'll get the sounds from needed apps back. And ye, actually now I find the way Xiaomi did it much more convenient: I just turned on notifications for 2 apps, and all the rest are silent, while previously I had to turn off all the rest of the apps (much more than 2, definitely) not to get disturbed by all the bull****.
