See this post if you want a bit more detail on the issue.
The nexus 4 had the same low input volume gain when using 3.5mm inline mics. Never an official response from google (of course) but some folks reported the issue much improved when switching to new kernels and roms.
Do you think the same would be true of the Nexus 5? I returned mine, but I'd rather keep it since it's looking like I'll be able to use it on Ting and some of the ATT MVNOs. It's just that one damn issue that irritates the piss out of me.

Hi all.
Recently got myself my first smartphone, the Nexus S on Telus. (Well, had a Samsung Omnia before, but getting a WM6.1 phone in 2010 can hardly be considered smart )
Everything was going swimmingly. I have a penchant for changing up the software innards on the devices I own, so naturally I rooted my shiny new phone and had a good time trying out all these ROMS. This was approximately a month ago.
About a week ago my phone inexplicably began to act up. My in-call volume dropped to barely a whisper, and my touch-sensitive search button would for some reason go off on it's on.
After a bit of Googling, I found out that the search button issue is affecting many other Canadian users also, something about a bug in the new radio (AUCKD1).
But I've yet to find anything conclusive about the in-call volume. There are threads who are complaining of either low or high volumes, but no workable solutions.
So as a last resort I have restored my phone to fully stock 2.3.4. One to see if it was my messing around that caused it, and to also prepare for the possibility of having to return my shiny. It may just be my imagination/denial, but the call volume seems slightly better. Not good enough for me to hear outside, but inside, with no background noise it's just slightly quieter than normal.
Another thing that is very odd. Skype volume is much louder than voice calls. To be frank it's still not loud enough to be considered acceptable, but it is definitely louder. They use the same speakers right? Why would that be?
If at all possible I'd like to avoid having to take the phone back since Telus will no doubt charge me exuberant fees for having touched the phone for more than 3 seconds and moving more than 18 millimeters away from the store I bought it from.
Please advise, XDA!
U can try install kernel voodoo sound from supercurio and apps. U can see the different.
I had try most of the custom rom. There is one rom who give me loudest call volume, but I can't remember which ROM it is. U should explore more rather than bring it to the store.
Now I'm on liquidnexusbread, but not giving me a good volume in call.
I knew it sucks... but I love this rom performance.

Hi All,
I am switching phones from the LG Revolution to the Droid Charge Free upgrade from VZW due to the two phones that bricked themselves overnight.
I had the LG rooted and the sole custom ROM loaded and I loved it.
I have a few questions about the Charge I hope I can get answered here:
1: I've heard about a lot of issues with the GPS not being accurate/having trouble locking on to Sats. Is this true? Is there a fix for it?
2: How is 4G connectivity/speed? With the LG I had good connectivity and pretty decent speeds ~ 8mbps down. Is the charge in the same realm? Faster slower?
3:I played around with the change in the stores before deciding on the Revo and
the one thing that I hated about the DC was how laggy the screen seemed to be in switching between app drawer and Home screen and even between desktops.
Apps launching also seemed to be slower. I've been reading that the lagginess can be fixed with a custom patch is this true and how much of a difference does it make?
4: Since I intend to Root this 1st thing, and it looks like there are a few different ROMS out there, what is the best ROM to put on this phone?
5: What other quirks and gotcha's do I need to be aware of with the Charge?
Thanks
My noob insight
I have had the charge for about 2 weeks now and did a lot of research and testing between the two devices and the Thunderbolt. Off the bat though, you don't have to deal with the bing intergration (unless that is your thing.) Here is what I know of:
1. It usually works fine, but I have experienced some issues with getting a lock on GPS. It usually would last no longer than a few minutes, but it does happen occasionally. Nothing I believe should be worried about or require a fix. The 4G seems to be fine, I have heard of previous issues but i think they have been addressed through an update.
2. My 4G with the charge is crazy. I consistently get between 10-14Mbps in my apartment, and have rarely seen anything under 9 on my speed test, including on the subway. (Bart in San Francisco)
3. That lag is annoying. It is there and I have been trying to figure out how to relieve some. There is the kernels with the Voodoo lagfix that address the issue. My experience has been so so with voodoo. I received a lot of errors in the custom rom (could have been my fault though) and seen the same lag (sometimes worse). But you should try, most seem pleased with the patch. Most cases it is fast enough though. Reducing the home screens to 5 and cutting back on widgets has helped a lot. But I guess that is expected.
4. I tried the GummyCharged. Altered Beast seem to be pretty popular as well. Both provide increased speed and reduced bloatware. I prefer Touchwiz personally. Nice overlay and not as intrusive as HTC sense (I hate sense).
5. check out this thread http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...harge-full-factory-tar-flashing-software.html in case you want to flash back to stock. Always disable voodoo when flashing anything. I was unable to disable it when trying to go back to flash, someone recommended a program (look it up) although I got the info after I just force flashed back to stock. I am still worried about issues that can arise, but so far so good.
Hope that helps.
hi everybody,
I bought htc sensation, though its a good phone, but i am really pissed off by its poor volume and low battery life. In this forum i read alot about these issues, generally the mixed opinions. So my question is: is it really possible to get rid of these issues by using the custom ROMs? Also there is a lot talk about sensation update 2.3.4. Anyone felt some improvement with respect to these issues after the OTA updte? Or i just have to live with these issues and keep on regretting why i didnt go for GS2 or Iphone4.

I'm on a 2.3.4 ROM (CoreDroid), and I haven't felt like either battery life or speaker volume changed at all. That said, I think some ROMs include mods to the speaker volume (or include a kernel that allows that or something), and a number of people have been saying that their battery life is better on 2.3.4.
Battery life seems much better on 2.3.4 roms.
What kernels supporting sound boosting currently available? I'm using ARHD as it looks like the only rom worth using that dosen't include graphics that look like they are made by a 5 year old.

I would love to know this as well
Try using Juice defender it actually helps alot
there are a few really effective apps on the market that are available in both free and paid versions, i have used Volume + as well as Equalizer. They are both very effective, however i noticed that Volume + while greatly increasing volume across the device, it often induced bugs when my phone connected to my BT stereo. Equalizer has worked awesome so far, although not as loud, it really seems to have effectively improved speaker output and quality both headset and BT.
No matter what anyone on here tells you, these two aspects of the phone suck, and there is no real fix for either issue. ROM's help the battery life here and there, but short of turning all connections off, turning down the brightness to zero, and never making any calls, there is no real fix. Large screen smartphones suck up power, it's something you'll have to just deal with. The Sensation's speaker volume and quality is just terrible, one of the worse ones I've used yet. You'd think such a high-end phone would have a high-end speaker, and be able to push that speaker accordingly. No app or ROM is going to solve this either. Don't get me wrong, I love my Sensation (for now), but those two issues are it's biggest downfall. I just put up with it honestly. Just waiting for next big thing to come out so I can eBay this one.
I have had the "other-person-hears-an-echo" on bluetooth a2dp in my truck since at least November. Running CM10. While it is mentioned periodically, most say the problem has been fixed on their handsets. It's driving me insane. The short version:
I think it was a perfect storm of a) CM10 bugs and, b) interface between the ville and the Clarion CZ500 in my truck. Note 1: My wife has the same audio in her car, and a stock HTC One S. No problems at all. Note 2: I always do clean flashes, wipe 3x, etc.
I am sure that whatever minor bugs in CM10 that influenced this have been fixed (NO complaints about CM10 - I've been using it since CM6 on my old MT3GS) - I can now talk to people without the echo on their end - IF...
I use a combination of tweaks to a) the Bluetooth volume on my phone, and b) the volume on my cz500. Where I place my phone (nearer or further away from the cz500 or the microphone) seems to effect things. So I'm getting closer, but...
I cant figure out a reliable pattern of tweaks to fix the problem. Some combinations work at one time, and then another some other time. The most reliable tweaks involve turning the volume on my cz500 so low that I can't hear the other party.
I've already traded the phone in (thanks TMO for an easy process and for taking a rooted phone). Before I buy another car stereo, does anyone have another idea?
Thanks very much in advance for anyone willing to take a minute here. If I've missed a post or discussion about it, it isn't for lack of trying - I've spent hours reading through the forums.
i read here and elsewhere about some issues with this device, but i can't tell for sure if its common or just certain people who were unfortunate.. i have a few questions and i hope you guys could help..
1- is there a common issue with wifi and/or cellular(LTE, 4G, 3G) connectivity in this device, such as dropped calls, dropped signal, wifi misbehaving ?
2- is there a common issue regarding the stereo speakers? (some say people around could hear the person you're talking to on the phone, others say the phone vibrates when playing music!)..
3- is it possible to set the display refresh to say 60hz from settings, or does it change automatically and can't be controlled by the user?
4- are there any common issues with custom roms, for example custom roms for the note 8 pro all have issues with automatic brightness and maybe a few more things!!
5- is there anything else i should know or worry about regarding this model?
hope you guys could help. thank you.

This phone is the most bang for your buck imo, but nothing is perfect, so to answer your questions:
Signal strength in this phone is absolutely great, especially the 4G+/LTE+ mode (if your carrier supports it). If i were to to compare Poco x3 to high end devices, I would compare it to a Samsung Note 9 or in the similar generation/production year. Some Custom ROMs have issues with 5GHz wifi reception, but on most of them and stock MIUI you will find no issues.
After MIUI 12.0.4.0 (currently 12.0.7.0 is latest) the speaker problem was resolved. It mostly was due to the fact that calles were handled in stereo mode instead of mono and the treble was too high, but It was noticed quickly and dealt with. Music will still rumble a bit in highest volume, although it gives the bass a better boost (people here have different opinions on this issue).
If you plan to use the phone at stock MIUI, you will get two refresh rate options: 60Hz and 120Hz, both of which are dynamically adjusted to the content you are on. For example youtube will scale down to 30Hz when watching a video regardless of which option you chose. Custom ROMs (all of them) have this feature/annoyance called displayfeature hal removed and have added a 90Hz mode as well. So a stock experience isn't advised.
Nothing notable comes to mind. Ok maybe Camera is slightly an issue, but Gcam is getting better everyday where it's almost the same as stock cam (if not better). If you divide different xda phone forums into alpha, beta and stable, then our phone has already transitioned from beta to stable status. You have missed the "beta" phase by a few months now.
Like all Xiaomi devices, EDL mode is locked. Meaning a hard brick is costly to fix/repair. If you never flashed a phone shipped with android 10 before (most people haven't), then read all instructions very carefully, especially recovery threads. Magisk CTS sometimes doesn't pass, but that issue isn't really exclusive to this device.
I have bought two devices. One early in September, which has no issues. The other I had to return recently due to QC issues, as it only had 85% battery capacity (from official seller), so my advice would be to check everything including sensors and battery. If everything looks ok, then you're all set.
