{Help} Installing a ROM - Already Rooted

Hey Guys Sorry I am New Here But I rooted My Phone And I wanted to install a rom Cyan engine mod thru rom manager and When i did I soft Bricked My phone In the verizon yellow screen But then i rooted it to The stock rom but i am still rooted some how , How do i get a new rom ?

Download a rom of your choice from one of the sgs3 development threads, copy it to your ext sd card, reboot into recovery, wipe phone, clear caches, install rom, install happened (if needed), wipe caches, reboot, let sit.
Thaw the jist of it. If you need a more detailed version, there are threads that walk you through it.

Are you unlocked and have a custom recovery?

If you want to install a ROM you have to first download the correct ROM for whatever phone you have and put it where you won't forget it. Then you need to go into recovery mode and do a factory data reset then wipe your cache and last you need to wipe your dalvik cache which is found in the advanced options. Then you click install zip and the you find the ROM and install it. If it has the aroma installer just follow the instructions given. After that just restart your phone. The first time you boot up your phone takes a minute so don't get worried.

You mentioned that you are rooted, but have you also flashed a custom recovery? The easiest way to flash custom ROMs, at least in my experience, is definitely through the use of recovery.
Once the recovery is installed, simply download the ROM in .zip format, move it over to your phone's SD card, then flash away. The steps vary a little, but for CWM, the steps are generally:
Wipe data;
Wipe cache;
Wipe Dalvik;
Flash ROM;
Flash gapps;
At this point, I usually wipe the cache and Dalvik again; redundant, yes, but eh.
There are other ways too, but I am only familiar with this method. I imagine you could always flash ROMs via Odin, but I feel like that would be a lot more complicated for a newer user.

Forgot; also ensure that your boot loader is unlocked. There is actually an app for it in the Play Store. Search for VZW GS3 EZ-Unlock on the forums. It's also on the Play Store, but I can't seem to find a link anywhere. Pretty much all you have to do is click "Unlock," and you'll be good to go.
MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS PRIOR TO FLASHING ANYTHING. You mentioned you were stuck at the Yellow Triangle in your post. One of the reasons for this includes forgetting to unlock your bootloader prior to flashing custom firmware (AKA Cyanogen Mod).

Make sure you unlock your bootloader. Download EZ Unlocker

^ make sure you have downloaded ez unlock first and then grab the latest recovery

need help with synergy rom
I just installed the new synergy rom latest version and it works pretty flawlessly except I cant turn my wifi on...this is a bother indeed. Any ideas jow to my that work cuz other than that one glitch it is amazing.

[Q] Encrypted - recovery issues

I had flashed TWRP and LiquidSmooth on my Galaxy SIII several months back and I had also gone into the settings and enabled the encryption functionality. It warned me that the only way to De-encrypt the phone would be to "wipe" or format the phone.
Last week I decided I wanted to look at the Hyperdrive ROM so I wiped my phone and then flashed the Hyperdrive Rom, however when the phone booted up it prompted me for a password because it still see's the phone as encrypted. I have wiped the phone multiple times using TWRP (the Format functionality as well as all of the other wiping functionality available), but I get the same results, it always prompts me for a password when it boots up. Now if I flash LiquidSmooth back to the phone, I do not get prompted for a password when the phone boots up. What do I need to do to completely remove the encryption from the phone so I can flash a new rom on it?

I'm a little confused, is twrp asking for a password or the system when you boot it up?
I think your best bet it to Odin back to stock and reroot. This problem comes up occasionally with twrp. I know this will definitely work.
I couldn't find any information on how to get around the password. But I'd guess you may be able to overwrite it my flashing a new recovery from odin or using an app like ez recovery if it's twrp asking for a password.

The system is asking after I flash the Hyperdrive and it re-boots. It is NOT TWRP that is prompting me. However when I flash LiquidSmooth it works fine.

I've never seen that before.
When you try to flash a new rom again, try to format system before you flash. That should erase anything that's making a password prompt appear.
You can always format your internal SD and clean everything out that way.
Or you can Odin back to stock, which essentially wipes and formats everything.

[Q] CM 10.1.3 -> 10.2. Now stuck in boot loop

Having not learnt my lesson from previous Android adventures, I decided update CyanogenMod installation from 10.1.3 to 10.2.0 on my Nexus S. I did the sideload from ClockworkMod recovery, rebooted, and got stuck on the loading screen. Having read suggestions to update GApps as well, I went back into ClockworkMod recovery, sideloaded the GApps, and, again, no joy. I understand that the next step to recover the phone is to factory reset it, but I forgot to backup everything beforehand.
I have some important information that I really don't want to lose in a factory reset. Complicating matters is that I've turned on encryption, so I can't simply use the ClockworkMod backup system and/or access the SD card. I'm running Linux with adb, so I can shell in if someone tells me how to dump the saved data off the phone. Even if I just get raw data and I have to enter it back in myself, that's better than losing it.
I know that downgrading back to 10.1 without a wipe is generally frowned upon. Is it worth gambling with the 10.3 nightlies to see if I can get a stable Android (there's an oxymoron!) boot going long enough for me to get everything off my phone before wiping it and reverting back to 10.2? If the issue is a corrupted apk, can I manually remove them to figure out what the problem is?

1. why are you side loading instead of flashing normal?
2. have you tried wiping everything minus sd and data and returning to 10.1.3?
3. when jumping versions, you need a full wipe..

I sideload the update because you can't access an encrypted SD Card (which mine is) from recovery mode. I'm not aware of any other way to do upgrades.

Is there a way to do this? My understanding is that a wipe will clear the data and the SD Card unless you're lucky. If I could revert back to 10.1.3 without touching the data, that would be great, but I'd want to be linked to a tutorial so I'm sure not to mess up.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I've gotten away with sideload updates in the past, but Android caught me this time and left me in limbo.

If you boot into CWM and do a format/wipe on everything MINUS the SD and DATA, you won't lose anything, but it may not fix your issue.. If you get your phone back up and running take off the encryption and back up your files, FULL WIPE and try again..

When I go into ClockwordMod, version 6.0.4.3, the 'wipe data/factory reset' is the only option that I see, but it then warns me that all data will be wiped, which, I'm guessing, includes the /data partition. Is this correct or should I look some place else?

OK, found it there, and formatted /storage, /cache, /boot, and /system. Reflashed CM 10.2 and GApps 4.3 with no success. However, I did manage to dd dump the contents of mmcblk0p2 and mmcblk0p3 to my Linux hard drive, so if I ever figure out how to mount those images in Linux, I should be able to recover everything.

I don't understand this question. How else could I have gotten CM onto my phone in the first place if I never flashed a ROM?

With few other options, I did a factory reset which, predictably, wiped everything but the SD card and put me into a fresh phone. It's also not mounting the SD. So, since all of my data on my phone is gone, I'll just have to hang onto the dumps that I have and hope and pray that someone can tell me how to mount them to get all of my files back.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Telus T989D stuck on Koodo logo after rooting

Hi There,
So, I have a Samsung Galax S2 Telus SGH-T989D phone and I decided to root it using the 4.4 KitKat and it went well and everything was great.
However, afterwards to resolve some other issues I was having I decided to make the mistake of loading the gapps which was for another
package into my phone and that messed everything up!
So, I have been struggling with the phone and first it wouldn't let me install another ROM from recovery and kept on giving me error 7 and 6
But, I fixed that and now I can install any ROM from the recovery or Odin (download mode) without any errors.
However:
The phone vibrates , brings up the galaxy logo and then the Koodo logo appears and a bar fills up quickly under it but it never goes away!!!
Phone freezes there and that's that!! Even after taking out the battery I noticed the logo was still stuck on the screen where as normally
it goes blank!!
So, at this point I am not sure what else to do! This is annoying and I'm tired of experimenting. I went through some XDA foroums here and
tried the Super Vipe (taking out the battery has been tried, factory reset and wiping the cache all have been tried)
So, please please please help me out here. I used to have a MyTouch4G which I rooted with CyanogenMod back in the day and it's the most
stable thing ever and all I wanted to do was to perform the same thing on my Galaxy S2 and boom not this time!!!

Thank you for your reply. However, as I've mentioned before, I've already tried those (from ODIN and through RECOVERY) with multiple different
ROMS and it's not doing anything which is why I am posting this here.

Did you perform a FULL wipe? Custom recovery -> format ALL partitions except EFS?

I have tried the Super Vipe off the SD card through the recovery mode and also from recovery I've tried the wipe cache,
factory reset and wipe cache partitions.
I am not sure about "format ALL partitions except EFS" nor am I aware of the procedure.
How would I perform that?

Have you installed a working custom recovery?

Yes I'm able to successfully install recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7-hercules or CWM_Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2
from the recovery without any errors (same if rooted through Odin)
If there's a specific ROM you are thinking about please let me know and I will be more than glad to give it a shot.

You really should use a newer recovery version. But for now go to mounts and storage and format all partitions except EFS. Then try flashing stock firmware via Odin
Here you can get the latest recovery for your device --> TWRP for hercules

Under mounts and storage and format all partitions except EFS > Don't even see ESF there to begin with..
Do you have a working link for downloading the stock firmware? I have downloaded few and none of them even let me install them (status 0 error)
Any ideas?
Odin is already being used v3.0.7

I was able to finally bring it up!!
Basically I looked for a stock firmware for T-Mobile and after formatting the phones multiple times I tried this ROM
using ODIN and it got rid of the Koodo logo and replaced it with a T-Mobile logo and then it BOOM loaded to start screen finally!! :laugh:
I was about to hammer the phone. So, trust me I was very happy to see it work.

Nexus 5 CWM problem?

So I'm trying to install custom ROM on my friend Nexus 5, should be a 2 minute job turns into 2 hours..
CWM is giving me a list of can't mount anything basically.
I tried fe-flashing the entire phone back to stock via fastboot, that went fine, flashed recovery again to CWM.. and can't mount anything again..
I need to be able to mount in order to install zip...
anybody can help??

yup, you will need to wipe and reflash.

still can't mount sdcard in recovery..
so i can't do anything.. I had to sideload the ROM..

so i've done a bat flash all, restore to stock..
I don't get why everytime i flash CWM custom recovery I can't load anything.. how the hell do I install purity from stock if I can't install CWM ?!

try twrp recovery

but i've been using CWM forever on every nexus device without problems..
I though process is simple.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (cwm)
3. wipe & install custom ROM (Purity)
4. gapps
5. start phone..
what am I missing???

so I tried installing the previous version of CWM 6.0.4.4 and CWM problems seems to be resolved.. clearly they must have issued with the latest version.
Now im able to read /sdcard and hopfully install purity ROM, gapps etc.
but I'm still getting the system UID's inconsistent issue...
what a colossal waste of time...

how the ****ing hell do I install a custom ROM?!?!?!? Like iv'e done this a million times before.. what am I missing??????

Put a custom ROM.zip and gapps package on storage, flash in recovery, flash SuperSU if necessary?

this is what ive been doing.. when phone boots it doesn't ask for google login credentials and goes straight to android is upgrading as if I did a dirty flash and then tell me i have a UID mismatch, and to wipe data partition..
i've now reinstalled this phone close to 6 times.. I cannot figure this out

cwm recovery SUCKS. but if you are unwilling to try other recoveries, oh well..

Well somewhere you're not wiping properly. Flash the factory images again using the flash-all.bat included in the compressed file as it'll wipe everything, then go from there.

Stock CWM always has issues. It's based on an outdated version of Android so it doesn't always play well with KitKat. I would recommend either TWRP or Philz Touch CWM.

CWM is built from CM11 4.4.3 source code.. But yeah it has issues., lacks functionality and also is antiquated

Don't know what to tell you, just try TWRP. I've had issues with CWM on every single device I've put a custom ROM onto (Xperia Arc S, HTC One M7, Galaxy S4, HTC One M8, Galaxy Note 3, Xperia Z, Nexus 5), and never had a single issue with TWRP on any.

gonna try Philz Touch CWM and if that doesn't work then TWRP
