Momax iCase Pro : My review

Before this I had an all black TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) case. It was ok, but the back looked very plain and boring. So I was looking for something little better, but didn’t want to get one with some wired pattern. Then I came across this.
I didn’t much like the metallic bezel of the SGS, and this case covers it pretty nicely. The best thing about it is the semi transparent back. As you can see from the photos below, I inserted a small piece of paper which I printed off a normal color printer having the Google logo and Android robot; IMO it gives a nice touch. Basically you can put just about anything you like. Overall I think it’s a pretty good case, it doesn’t add much bulk and it is very discreet.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the buttons are harder to press though.. Thats the only gripe I have against it.

Been using this case since I got my phone. The semi-transparent back is hard plastic while the sides are soft. The grip is definitely better than without a case, but I wouldn't say it's great since the back is somewhat smooth. Not sure about drops though.
The only thing I don't like about it is that the sides buttons are kinda hard to press, but I'm guessing thats the same with all SGS cases.

The grip is ok but not as good as with a silicon or a full TPU case (I had before) because back is made out of a hard plastic like material with a grainy textured feel to it.

Bezel (the dark black area) still has a flexible rubbery feel to it (much like TPU/Silicon based cases), so I think it can absorb some shock, maybe not as much as other 100% silicon based cases. Transparent back is harder than the black frame, but still flexible (for example when the phone is inserted and taken out you have to bend it , and it doesn't seem to me that it would break easily, you can think of the material as somewhat similar to what regular microwave safe plastic containers are made out of, hard but flexible as well). I guess if the phone falls flat on it's back maybe a full silicon based case might do a slightly better job, but then again none of the cases out there can't guarantee to protect your phone from a fall. I think they are better at keeping the phone scratch free more than protecting from drops.

Yes, buttons are hard to press. But I had the same problem with the case I had before, and I even tried out a softer casing before that , same issue.

Nice review, good looking case, but I prefere flip cases. And got a good one of thoes

OT To me cases are basicly just for the looks.
Since I dont intend to be throwing or dropping my phone.
It´s an expensive thing so ofc one uses care when handling it

To add to the OP review, this is one nice case.
I just receive this case from my ebay purchase, installed on my SGS and really liked the case.
Seems like it protects the phone really well.
I also picked up some gel case from ebay. The gel case doesn't cover the bezel very well. This Momax case covers the entire bezel really well, and doesn't add bulk to the phone at all.

really nice case. i like my case mate tough case but it's made the phone a bit too bulky for my liking. this might be a nice compromise between tough case and no case at all.
may try this one out.

Can anyone compare this to a Case-mate barely there case?
They would seem to be on the same "class" of case.
From what I am seeing, the Barely there case would be thinner, but cover less, and also cost more.

From what I see on the casmate website its only for T-Mobile Vibrant..

hi all,
my case came today and i really like it. i have a casemate tough case and while it certainly is tough, it made the phone bulkier than i was happy with.
the momax seems to be just enough coverage to make you feel pretty comfortable with drops but slim enough not to add too much bulk. of course, some bulk is to be expected and i still find the phone more comfortable to hold with the momax case than without any case. without a case i kept thinking i was going to drop the darn thing.
very happy with this case, i will be selling my tough case.

FYI, it is a really good case and i really liked it. But not really recommend this case if you always need to take your case off.
I got a white one few months ago. Recently i found the hard part scratch the silver front edge...and i have no any method to remove those mark now. So i don't use this case anymore now until i find the best case.
Moreover, the white color seems turning pearl yellow. I think it is because the sweat of my hands.
Anybody have same experience?

Bought this Case - my take
I got this case for 12 dollars off ebay and am glad i paid the premium over the cheap gel cases!
I do not like the gel cases as they are very hard to get into and out of your pockets (especially jeans) so when i saw this case with the hard back i thought id give it a try.
The case does slide out of your pocket easier then a full gell case and seems to protect the phone well. it also hides the silver bezel which is nice since it provides some protection from a fall on a flat surface(providing theres no pebels)
its still not as easy to slide out as the phone without a case but acceptable and the protection is nice!
I have managed to put a few small scratches in the back but its prob from my keys that tend to be in the same pocket of my phone on occasion.
only downside is dust collects along the edges but a quick wipe with a cloth gets rid of it.

I think this is way better than the silicon cases. They tend to stretch and slip off when you take the phone out of the pocket

Got one in my local Vodafone shop for €12, fits great way better than those regular silicon cases, doesn't come off the phone, not discolouring either, gives a millimetre or two of clearance for the camera lens when you put it down flat.
If this is the CaseMate Barely There mentioned earlier http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Tec-PGSGSFCL-Glacier-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B0043GW8JI then it does fit the GT I9000. They had one in my local O2 shop that was for a Vibrant, (even though you can't get Vibrant's here), so I figured I'd try it. It fits beautifully, and doesn't bulk up the phone like all the other cases. I'm seriously considering one to replace the Pro-Tec, but it's €20, and wont have the clearance for the camera. Looks great on the phone though

TPU/Epik/Crystal Gel Case

I'm sure some of you are aware of these cases available for other phones (I had these for my Blackberrys and loved them!). Well, I see that they're starting to pop up on eBay! I wasn't sure if these would be made for a slider phone (especially our Z-hinge) but I guess they figured it out.
I already ordered a clear one from someone in California. It was only around $6. There are less expensive ones, but they are all shipped from China and can take a LONG time. I'll be sure to post some pics and impressions when it comes in.
Another bonus is that they usually come with a pretty good screen protector.

I have an Epik case for my MyTouch 3G and I loved it. Would've loved it a lot more if the clear case didn't become yellow after a while :/ give us a review of the clear case after you get it.

The clear one I had for my BB Bold started to yellow/brown a little too. I probably should have ordered a smoke colored one, but I just hate to cover the G2 design. Maybe the formula has changed since then and it won't yellow. If not, it's not like they're that expensive, so I'll just get a smoke.

Here it is!
I received my TPU case today and I can honestly say that this is my favorite case so far. The entire inside edge of the case has a slight edge that keeps it on the phone. This means that the phone is always open just a bit, but also that the 2 halves are flush all the way around except for the middle top and bottom.
With the keyboard out, the two halves of the phone actually rest on the case instead of the little rubber pads built in. It's actually quite nice since it's the same on the front and back, and it's a long stable surface. Feels like there's less wiggle both open and closed.
The volume, camera, and power buttons are covered, but the case is raised in those areas so you can still feel where they are. The volume and camera buttons are still easy to press, but the power button takes a lot of force to push. This is probably due to the stiffness of the case and small size of the button. I might try gluing a tiny plastic shim on the inside of the case there to make it easier to press. In the mean time, I just added a shortcut to lock it on my home screen.
I don't like the shape of the cutout for the touch screen. I would prefer the top of the opening to not cover around the speaker, even though there are cutouts for that and the light/proximity sensors. I'd also like the bottom of the screen cutout to follow the curvature of the screen instead of being so squared off.
I wasn't so sure about the argyle pattern on the back, but I kinda like it now. It's rather subtle at certain angles. The clear looks good except for a couple spots on the front where it looks a little dull or matte from the inside. I may end up ordering a smoke colored one later on if this one starts to discolor (like paste cases of this material have before).
Overall, I highly recommend these cases!

Very nice pictures, are the cutouts on the case in the best position? This was also a small problem I had on my MT3G case at the camera where it was offset a bit.

The cutouts are perfect as far as I can tell. Front and back speakers, light/proximity sensors, camera/flash are all exact. The headphone and usb cutouts are a bit larger to accommodate accessories. Also, the mic cutout comes around to the front a little, I'm guessing to lessen interference.
Volume, camera, and power are raised on the outside and hollowed out a little on the inside. The power button's hollow is just a little too deep, recquiring more pressure to push the button.

I had this case in blue and hated it. The power button needs an extreme amount of pressure to work. You almost need two hands just to turn the device off and on. I'm sending mine back for a refund.

I have this case in smoke on my desire z right now and I am a bit torn between it and my previous clear plastic case.
Coverage is great (much better than the amazon plastic cases) and the cutouts fit perfectly. The tpu material feels good. The problems are:
- It is thicker than the cheap plastic cases. This is not a major issue, but I wish it was thinner.
- It intrudes into the keyboard area and makes the top row harder to access. This also prevents the kb from opening all the way, so the advantage of the z hinge in making the kb more flush with the screen is lost. This is my major gripe.
- Like others stated, the hardware buttons are hard to press through the case.

It's a little thicker than the other clear plastic cases, but I think it feels so much better without all of the gaps and edges. So for me it's worth it.
I don't think the intrusion is that bad, just something to get used to. I thought that the z-hinge was supposed to just keep the phone thinner overall, not just for when the keyboard is out.
The only button I had a hard time pressing was the power button. The camera one is easy, volume is a little more difficult but prevents accidental presses (which I like). The power button was definitely a problem though. I "fixed" it by cutting a slit along the top and bottom of the raised button. That made it easier to press. Then, I cut 2 small strips from an unused matte screen protector and used them as a shim by sticking them to the under-side of the button on the case.
Those extra steps might not be worth it for some people, but I'm okay with it for a $6 case. I also did the spring hinge fix from another thread, so I kinda like messing with stuff anyway.

PICS / Review: RingkeSLIM, amCase, Poetic Atmosphere

I own a few Nexus 4 phones and bought a few cases to try and cover the phone until the official LG bumper is in stock. I also have the Poetic bumper which I didn't have a chance to take pics of yet, so I may add it to the "review" in the future.
Here are the pictures along with some impressions of three of these budget cases...
First of all, for those who aren't aware, from left to right we have the following cases: Poetic Atmosphere ($10) , Ringke SLIM ($10), amCase Slimfit ($2-3!!). They are pictured in the same order in all of the following pics.

- I find the amCase logo to make the cover seem pretty class-less and unappealing
- The Poetic case has rubber feet (those gray lines in the corners) to prevent it from sliding too much when laying on a table, but I found them to be barely passable and the case itself is very slippery
Bit hard to see in this picture but...
- Ringke SLIM has a nice edge where the charger goes - looks like any charger will fit
- Poetic Atmosphere doesn't fit the older style micro-USB plugs, which have lots of plastic around the plug
- From this angle you can see that the Ringke has slightly more protection in the corners of the phone compared to amCase, however the Poetic gives the most protection
- Poetic didn't allow me to insert my headphones - the case blocks them
- Poetic had the best button feel because the buttons are built into the case. Some might claim it's easier to push in a pocket by accident, but I haven't had any issues with it
- Ringke's buttons although very well cut out are very close to the chamfered case and are a bit harder to press, however the case cutouts were perfect not just for the button but also for the speaker in the back - the tolerances are very tight, unlike the amCase which has 'oversized' holes everywhere
- It was easier to press the buttons on the amCase compared to the Ringke. Because there's a "hard" cutoff between the case and the phone, and because the openings are so large, it's easy to determine when your finger is in the correct position over the correct button
Final thoughts....
Ringke SLIM:
- Made the phone seem thinner, if that's possible - everyone I had asked thought so too
- Has somewhat "sharp" edges which didn't appeal to me at first, but after using the phone for a little while I realized this actually gave me a firm/secure grip on the phone
- Has an understated logo in the back which exudes a bit more luxury
- Least slippery plastic of the bunch, however nothing compares to the silicone/rubberized type stuff out on the market
- Excellent "grip" on the phone
- Has very thin plastic on the sides which also doesn't wrap around the screen, making it easier to get to the edge of the screen (i.e. to move icons between home screens, which requires touching the very edge of the screen)
- Corners are raised in case the phone falls on something flat it can't get scratched (in the real world, I find this almost gimmicky - The front of the phone basically has no protection
- Out of the three, this is my favorite by far
amCase Slimfit:
- Wraps slightly around the front of the screen which makes it a bit more noticeable
- Pretty slippery in the hand and since it has "rounded off" edges compared to the Ringke, I feel like I'm holding a wet bar of soap - always worried it may fall out of my hand
- Not as tight as the Ringke around the phone, making it easier to remove but doesn't seem so loose as though the phone would come out
- Thicker plastic, so it may potentially offer more protection, but less coverage in the corners is a little bummer
- Overall placement of all the cutouts is perfect
- As a temporary case, for $2 it's a steal
- Out of the three, this is my second favorite
Poetic Atmosphere:
- Offers the most protection by far - nothing but the front screen is exposed - though the rubber around the front of the screen would do more to protect it compared to the other two (I think)
- This same rubber trim around the front of the face makes it a bit harder to get to the VERY edge of the screen and much more noticeable on the thumb when using the phone
- Holds the phone securely, however is the most plasticky of the bunch - very slippery
- I was unable to use one of my USB cables to charge it, nor was I able to use my headphones with this protector on - the cutouts are far too small - and not thoughtful like the Ringke, which has smoothed out edges
- The feel of the buttons is amazing
- In addition to properly placed buttons, all the cutouts are in the correct location - and although some of the USB cables wont work with it and most headphones won't work with it, the placement of all cutouts is correct
- The "cloudy" look of the back isn't my taste - to be honest, it makes the phone look pretty ugly IMO
- This was my least favorite of the bunch however it offers the most protection
Hope this helps someone out there looking for a case. Although I like the Ringke SLIM the best, I feel like there must be better out there. My wife also prefers the Ringke since the sharper corners make it easy to hold onto the phone and somehow the phone actually feels less wide and easier to grip for both of us with this case.
Please let me know if you have any questions/comments and also if you've tried other cases that you can suggest?

I don't have the time for a full writeup right now, so this is a quick post to state that the amCase is garbage and should be the last on the list.
My wife fumbled her phone at night from about 2ft high and the case flew off upon impact. No damage to the phone.
Also, the Poetic bumper is really nice and I'll update the review with it later. I imagine it's not as great as OEM, but it's decent save for a few problems.

First Impressions & Packaging
The case was packaged nicely with a retail package that indicated it contained a quality product inside. It is obvious from the packaging alone that roocase takes pride in its products. I'm not a packaging expert, nor a advertising expert so I will not give this a star rating. However, I was VERY pleased with how it looked before opening the package. Sometimes, most times I feel compelled to throw away product packaging, but this is not one of those times. I'm keeping the packaging as long as I keep the case. Besides, I found a use for it, as it is storing my Samsung Simple case now, LOL.
Second Impressions & Case Design

Holding the case for the first time was a WOW moment for me. It is clearly the nicest case I have ever owned for a tablet. I love the design and the flexible top cover which slightly over hangs the edges when closed. The cover can be put into so many different positions that I actually lost track, lol and not only that it has a stand mode that is just absolutely perfect for fetal position bed reading (which I do a LOT in the middle of the night), without needing something propping it up. Sadly, the Samsung Slim case could NOT do this at all and I found that to be the #1 reason to not use the Samsung case. I couldnt imagine a better design than origami case and trust me I spent nearly two months trying to mentally improve upon it. I give the design a 4.5 out of 5 stars mainly because I know they will find a way to make it even better, but how I do not know.
Usage

I've been using this case for nearly 2 Months now and it has not disappointed. Folding and grasping the top cover in a handle like motion is just perfect while walking around with it (pic below), its like having a built-in easy to grip rubber handle, because well that is what it is. The usage and safe handling like this is near perfect for me. 4 out of 5 stars because I actually like having a cover strap to put my hand inside which is what my Nexus 7 case does. But I think a cover strap would be unwelcome by most users seeking a thin case.
Durability

I really do not believe in giving a product a perfect score because with time EVERYTHING can be improved upon, which would suggest your perfect score was really not perfect after all. However, I have dropped my tablet once already onto a hard wooden floor by accident and was fully expecting a destroyed screen. And when I opened the top cover to see no damage what so ever I was surprised as it hit the floor pretty hard. So as for solidness I think this case is excellent and will give it a 5 out of 5 just because it survived a very hard fall from about 4 feet or more. However being as thin as it is I would NOT try dropping it intentionally. I probably just got lucky, YAY!
Fit

The Tablet fits into the case near perfectly, however on the bottom right corner I find the tablet popping out of the case easily, almost too easy. If I try to remove the tablet from the case from any other corner I find it very tight and the case does not want to let go, however If I try to first pop it out from the bottom right it just comes out with NO effort, almost too easily in fact. Not sure if this is by design or a slight fit flaw but it seems like the bottom right corner just does not have the "snap" feel to it like the other corners do. Also, one note to mention, you must remove the case if you need to change out microSD cards. Overall I give the fit a 4 out of 5 stars.
Finish

The finish of this case could not be any better as I just love the feel to my hands (and to the eyes when cleaned), although I do find the back cover capturing every finger print like a law enforcement finger print scanner machine, haha. I have had to wash this case under warm water once already just because it felt like it was sapping oils out of my hands, lol. Also the inside of the top cover, which is a light grey colored rubber material on mine, likes to darken from holding it which is surprising because I am a hand washing addict, maybe to the point of being a germaphobe. Yes I wash my hands probably 15-20 times a day but that hasn't stopped the cover from getting darkened quite a bit in the fold areas where skin contacts it the most. Either this is dirt (I doubt it though) or a better explanation would be hand oils that is trapped inside the rubber material because washing it did not restore the darkened areas to light grey. Also, one little note I almost forgot to mention, because the top inside cover is a rubber material with a honey comb texture, this texture leaves a slightly annoying design on the screen which has me wanting to wipe the screen down far too often, after every openeing in fact. Maybe the top inside cover would be better if it was made from a microfiber material? Over all I give this case a 4 out of 5 for its beautiful finish when cleaned.
My thoughts after 2 Months of use
Well I must say that I think the ONLY thing that can be improved would be weight, and maybe material used for the inside of cover. For a Slim case I think it weighs a tad bit much. However for everyday use around the house or the office this is THE case to get. I love the black and grey color combination and the texture of this case is fantastic, however I'm not much of a fan of the honey comb marks it puts on the screen, but this can be ignored. Over all it is well worth the asking price and built like a tank without the weight of a tank. If only they made it almost exactly like this but with microfiber material for the inside of the top cover, that would have been my preference, not to mention dropping about 100 grams of weight off of it at least.
Overall I give this case a score of 4.5 out of 5 stars, as its just really that good!

REVIEW: Poetic Affinity Series Clear Case

** Full disclosure: I was sent this case in exchange for a full and honest review. U2 once flew me out to Las Vegas to do a review and I absolutely destroyed them in print, so I think we can fairly safely say that a free phone case isn’t going sway me either way. **
I'm pretty sure I've never met anyone who's a massive fan of compromise. "You know what my favourite thing in the world is?" no one ever said. "Making necessary concessions to accommodate a variety of needs." But, as we all know, compromise is basically humanity's way of making the best job out of the pretty rotten set of circumstances known as ‘life’.
Phone cases are a compromise in and of themselves. Only nine-year-old girls actually CHOOSE to put a case on their phones. And those usually have sparkly bits and pictures of unicorns on them. And One Direction ringtones. The rest of us just grin and bear it, frowningly accepting the obvious fact that, no matter how pretty our new Nexus 6Ps are, they won't stay that way for long without a bit of a wrap-up.
Then comes the compromise bit: do you go for a thin shell case, which adds very little bulk (a good thing) but also very little drop protection (a bad thing). Or do you swaddle your phone in a whopping great chunk of thermoplastic polyurethane or, heaven forbid, one of those inadequacy-compensating macho armor jobs - all polygons and Bear Grylls autographs?
The answer is, probably, more compromise. Which this case, from Poetic, lets you do. It’s a best-of-both-worlds job: thin polycarbonate shell across the back to keep your 6P sleek and sexy, nobbly thicker plastic round the sides (for extra grip) and a network of rubbery TPU lines snaking around the edges and corners to add bump and drop protection - but only where really it’s needed. Which is all jolly sensible, and it earns the overall design a big gold star for cleverness.
Extra gold stars for nicely-sized, well cut-out ports around the headphone socket and USB-C port (forgive the 1970s double-entendre, but you shouldn’t have any trouble plugging in at either end), and for the power and volume button overlays which don’t get in the way of your clicking. Oh and, go on, have another star for protecting the rear glass visor without covering the laser focus or ambient microphone. Bravo.
Now for some quibbles. Poetic are terribly proud of themselves, so much so that they’ve felt the need to tag the back of this case in what amounts to a slew of plastic graffiti. You’ve got the brand name smudging up the bottom, the model name showing off along the side, and a great big letter ‘P’ covering up the Nexus logo in the middle. Considering that your phone cost about 50 times what this case did, you might find that a bit presumptuous - especially since you presumably opted for a clear case in order to show off your phone’s original design.
Speaking of which. Let’s consider that whole ‘clear’ thing in general. First, clear cases always look a bit cheap and toy-like; the sort of thing you’re more likely to find cover-mounted on a kids’ comic than displayed at a chic designer boutique. Also, because of those rubbery bits and thick, textured sides, this case is as much ‘curdled milk white’ as it is clear, and that’s definitely not such a good thing. But you know what? These are aesthetic tastes. I’m just not a fan of these colours, but I’m also not a fan of bacon and I know how popular that is. So, hey-ho, you pays your money...
Finally, those side-nobbles. Dropping phones sucks, so it’s good to get some grip. But these sides, combined with the hard lines networking around the back and corners, aren’t the most comfortable thing to hold. You’re less likely to drop it, sure, but you’re also less likely to have a happy hand. In fact, every second you hold your phone in this case, you’re going to be aware that you’re holding it, that it’s in a case, and that it’s not a altogether pleasant feeling.
But, hey, there has to be some compromise. If you’re looking for a case that’s hard to drop and, SHOULD you drop it, is quite likely to stop your phone from disintegrating - while still being relatively thin and generally not grotesque - this is a great choice. If you’re a little more crazy and cool and reckless like me, you might want to think: “to heck with it all! I’m going to risk life and limb and go for something a little more minimal.” Or, if you’re like my Gallic friend Marcel who’s so crazy and cool and reckless he’s the modern incarnation of James Dean, you might just go naked and let your phone feel the breeze like nature intended.
Either way, it’s a ten-buck case. So… you know, no biggie.

Review
XDA is getting flooded with these reviews, so I decided to piggyback off of yours.
I too received one of these cases (clear) for free in exchange for a review.
Build: The build quality on this case seems well above average for a clear plastic case. I have had others and definitely feel this one surpasses the others in terms of quality feel. I appreciate the ridges along the side which adds extra grip to help prevent dropping the phone. All of the cut-outs are precise and spot on. The power and volume buttons are perfectly responsive, and other than occasionally pressing the wrong button, work the same as if there were no case on the phone. Al of the ports are perfectly cut. I had no problem using the USB-C or headphone jack ports. The case is very light. It adds almost no bulk to the phone, although I would be as comfortable as is possible if I dropped my phone from a small distance with this case on it.
Design: I have to first say I am not a fan of clear plastic cases, so my review will be somewhat slanted because of this. This is my personal preference; we know how preferences go. Other than that, I do not like how the case covers the black camera/antenna portion of the phone. I like clean lines. Between the case being clear and having some of the anti-scratch raised lines running through the black area, it just doesn't look good.. to me. Like others, I also dislike having Poetic's "p" in the middle of the back, covering the "S" in the Nexus on the back of the phone. Also, I think the clear case would look better on something other than a silver phone, which I have.
Conclusion: If you are a fan of clear plastic cases, which are slim and do not add much bulk (at the sacrifice of a little extra protection), this case would be more than adequate for your wants and needs. The manufacturer gets an A+ on the precision of all of the cutouts and the feel of the case on the 6P as well. It's less than $10, so if the above fits your description of an ideal case, Amazon has one waiting for you.

So to be clear I was sent this case by the good guys at Poetic for my honest review..... Gonna be honest not a professional reviewer but let's start....
Have been using this clear case one for past days as my DD instead of my Spigen one.... The cover feels exceptionally good in the hands though it makes the phone a bit more bulky than the spigen one.... Have had a small drop test as well at night from my bed.... Saw in the morning that the phone landed on its face but nothing happened.... So happy for that and the protection seems good....
I would say go for the black variant the transparent one doesn't look that good .... Personally??
Now the cons.... The case has made me feel how you guys feel for Verizon.... The branding is too much.... If they could just remove the "P" from the center of the case as that blocks my Nexus branding on the phone.... and also if the fingerprint reader cutout could be a bit smaller... it's too big for my liking.... 2nd also .. the plastic near the usb-port is flimsy.....
overall... I would suggest this case without any issues.. the protection is good and that's what matter to me...
