Nexus 5 Double tap screen to turn Off/On function? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was playing and comparing the Nexus 5 with the LG G2 device and I noticed a pretty cool function. You can double tap the screen to turn on and off the phone... Not sure if this is a LG launcher proprietary app or something you can install with a 3rd party. I think it'll be cool to have it on the Nexus 5. Does any body have an idea of what possible apps that can do this for the nexus 5?

LG function. Several custom kernels have supported this feature on other devices, so we can hope it comes to the N5.

[Q] Turn on screen with touch gesture

Hello All!
I was wondering, if there is a way to turn on the screen on any android device {I have an i9100(CM10.2) and an i9505 (stock with root)} by drawing a gesture on the locked and turned off screen?(a gesture like the ones in GMD, or Nova) I know it would consume a bit more battery, and that there are apps, like Gravity box, that aim to do this, via the proximity sensor, or gyro/accelerometer, but I'd like to do it with the gesture(a little like the LG G pro 2 or the LG G2...
Anybody have any idea, suggestion? I've heard or read of something like this before, but I cannot find it anywhere...

Wrong camera activated on lock page

Running Stock 4.4.3, rooted, plus xposed.
I installed the Nexus 5 camera app from the Play Store sometime ago and was fairly happy with it. But now realize that the Moto G standard camera is better. So I just removed the Nexus 5 icon and replaced it with the Moto G camera. Job done, I thought.
But I have just discovered that the camera icon on the lock screen still activates the Nexus 5 camera.
How do I change the lock screen camera icon to activate the Moto G camera?
Can't seem to find out how. Thanks!

Go to Settings>Apps and find the Nexus 5 camera app. Click on it and select the option "Clear defaults". Now lock your phone again and go to the lockscreen camera page (swipe right). If you do everything as mentioned, you will hopefully get a prompt to select which camera to open as default on this page. Select the Moto G camera app and click always and you're good to go.
Cheers!
Edit: If you don't use the Nexus 5 camera at all you should consider uninstalling it either by dragging it from the app drawer to the uninstall option on the homescreen or from Settings>Apps>Nexus 5 camera.apk>Uninstall

Thanks! The first paragraph as you described worked fine. I decided to leave the N5 camera available because it has a timer option which the Moto G doesn't have.

[How-To][Video] Double-Tap to Turn Off Screen with Nova

So one of the main things I hated when switching to the LG G3 is the fact that I'm someone who likes to use third party launchers like Nova Launcher. Because of that, I lost one of the main selling points of the LG G3, double-tap to turn off the screen from the Home Screen. Well, this morning I had some random epiphany and realized there's gotta be an app to turn off the screen without using the button on your phone, and remembered Nova has a gestures and clicks shortcut feature to perform tasks. So whether you have an LG G3 and are in my situation OR someone who has ANY other Android device and wants to do this too, be sure to check out my latest video!

Screen Off app on Mate 9

I'm contemplating a Mate 9. Is it possible to use a Screen Off application, to quicly turn the screen off, without having to touch any buttons?
Many people ask about unlocking the screen in a prompt manner. When I'm short of time (e.g. changing buses) it's just as important to be able to turn the screen off. On my old Note 3 I'm using a Screen Off app (or is it a widget) on my home screen. With a good non-slippery cover, I'm almost able to turn the phone on and off with a single hand. I'd like something similar on Mate 9.
I use the gesture mode on Nova launcher to screen off

You can use any screen off app.
There is even a widget preinstalled.
The floating dock also lets you lock the screen as well as the built-in widget
thanks, everyone.
It looks good. Now I just need to wait three weeks for the price to drop.
I heard Mate 10 is due to be announced on 16-Oct-2017.
I intend to stay with 9 because I don't like the ultra-thin bezels and I prefer the wider screen over the narrow-elongated forms.

Same here. I use double tap gesture in Nova launcher mapped to open app "screen off and lock". Just like old LG phones. I wish I could get double tap to wake to work I hear it gives a lot of false wakes though.
For the Screen OFF action I firstly tried Nova and Tasker actions, but in the end the best solution by far is to use the Mate 9 built-in Screen Lock feature, triggered with both Nova activity and Tasker Assist Request (home button long-press).
The built-in Screen Lock feature is both more efficient and visually pleasing than third party solutions, and respects the Smart Unlock settings.
For Screen ON the best solutions for me are Gravity Screen app (free from Play Store) and Tasker proximity action if you are bound to that addiction, like me (I can help building that specific task if anyone is interested).

Double-tap, or Knock/Knock, to wake up the phone?

I got rather used to double-tapping the screen on my prior phones to either wake up or turn off the screen. I cannot find that feature within the Moto G7 Power Android 9 Pie configuration / setup. Looking around, this feature seems to be available in Android Pie generally.
What am I missing?
It's not a native feature. We're you using an LG phone? You can get it back if you use Nova launcher. At least for screen off, won't work for screen on.
As stated above, knock on is a feature of LG phones.
As an alternative, look for WaveUp on the play store. Open source app that turns in the wave feature not included in the G7.
Not as nice as the knock on, but one you get used to basically touching the proximity sensor, it works the same.

I know! A little frustrating to move BACKWARD in an operating system feature set!

It should become a moto gesture, that'd be EPIC.
LG even make a fridge with a knock-on light so you can see what drinks you've got in the door.
Sorry, nothing useful to add! It's not a native feature of pie, however.
Tap your screen to semi-wake so lockscreen clock (if set) will appear then scroll up from bottom of screen and pin input appears. Proximity sensor seems poor so many taps may be needed.
Wouldn't the Face Unlock be much easier and prevent the need for a double tap? Of course it wouldn't work in dark areas. Things like these I think they implement because it might be better or easier
If someone makes a custom kernel and adds DTTW then your in like flin.
