1) This goes in the Q&A forum.
2) Yes. http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-root-Google-Nexus-5_id49014
3) Next time do a Google search. Literally took 15 seconds to find that.

AFT never worked with my SGSIII, and it still doesn't work. I partitioned my Mac because of AFT, so i don't really need it. Just checking to see if that app still sucked, and it does. Thanks anyway.

AFT works here for a couple years now. GN, Note 2, N4 and N5 all work here on 10.6 to 10.8. Try reinstall maybe.

O.K. I installed AFT, then uninstalled it. I'll try reinstalling it, and see what happens. My phone is rooted. Could that be the problem?

Mine is rooted as well.
Try toggling USB Debugging on / off depending on what its set at.
AFT is tricky, sometimes it won't work if USB Debugging is off for me, other times it won't work if its on, lol.

Tried everything that i could think of, but it still says "could not connect to device".

That's strange. I've used AFT on Mavericks with a Galaxy Nexus, GSIII, HTC One, and the Nexus 5. After you install it run it once without the phone and try it again. Get Appcleaner and uninstall AFT and start fresh.

Don't have Kies installed. I uninstalled it about six months ago. Would the drivers still be in place, even after the uninstall?

I resorted to just ADB pushing files to the Nexus 5 with my Macbook pro. It's easy enough to do and once you get used to it the process is really quick.
Follow the guide in this link to setup your computer properly for most efficient use of ADB and Fastboot commands:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
When it comes to moving or deleting files on the phone I just use Root Explorer.

I wrote this and seems to work fine the few times I have used it.
If you guys run into any problems or errors please let me know so I can see whats wrong.
Follow the Video set by step.
Sorry if I talked quietly I'm sick.
Enjoy!
Fixed. If you are getting a adb command not found error. Redownload the big file or download the runmefix.zip (Check your tube video) uncompress the file and put runme in the thunderbolt directory of your desktop.
If you download the big file after April 9th 2011 at 7:30am then you do not need this fix
Saw the video. Got the files. Will be doing this as soon as my phone is charged in the AM. Hopefully it works.

Yes. Worked awesome. Takes a while, but it worked. Just make sure to follow directions to the T, I accidentally hit enter on a command too soon and had to start over. But all works as far as I can see. Super easy, but takes a while.
Thanks again to OP!
This looks great--no messing around in ADB?
Its uses adb but you don't have to worry about it or anything like that.. The download includes what it needs.

Yeah it worked great for me, the first time around the phone booted earlier than it should have and I had to do the whole thing over, and the second time I tried to remover the Verizon Backup via titanium backup (**DO NOT TRY THIS**) and almost bricked my phone, and so the third time everything worked perfect and now Im running Perfect Storm by Chingy and its awesome thanks!
My phone isn't recognized. Usb debugging is checked but the terminal window just says checking for phone over and over. Any ideas ?

I had that happen for me as well. It seems that by default the Mac doesn't recognize it. Click ignore on the pop-up and click okay for charge only. Unless this is what you did. In that case try again

how do you start over? do you just turn off the phone and restart the app on your computer?

Odin Issues...

So I went from the UCKK4 leak to the newest CatyROM. I was having a lot of issues with the gallery and the music player so I decided to head back to stock for now to put a leak or a different ROM back on. I started up Odin with the pre-installed root+3e return to stock, but it got stuck so I pulled it. Then I went to full on rainbows, no DL mode, nothing. Then I used GTG's unbrick and it got stuck so I pulled again. Now I've got DL mode (regular) But Odin keeps getting stuck on factoryfs.rfs. I rebooted my computer, tried a different port, all that. I can't use another computer since I don't have a second one. I'm definitely at a loss on this one. Anyone got anything?
Redownload or try Adam's Hemidall.
Try a different cord. I had the same problem on a different rom
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
The phone won't even detect in Heimdall. I can't figure out how to use Adam's either since I've never used Heimdall. The phone does go into DL mode and the PC and Odin detect it, but that's about it
EDIT: I should asp add that when I get up to factoryfs.rfs the DL mode progress bar does show about 1/16 worth of progress.

Kev,
If I understood heimdall correctly, according to description, it is different from odin. it installs a different usb drivers.
I think you should give heimdall a try again.
I don't know if odin does anything to prevent heimdall from recognizing your phone or not.
UN-install all usb drivers for the phone.
assign 1 usb port just for heimdall
DL Adam's heimdall uckj4 1click
update to newest java.
put your phone in DL mode.
run 1 click.
zadig should allow you to install it's own usb driver.
if heimdall does not recognize your phone or show connected,
try rebooting windows
and try 1 click again.
if the first flash doesn't work, flash 2nd time with boatloader checked.
good luck
btw, next time you get FC's on gallery or music, it may because there were left over files from the previous rom such as thumbnails and data. you can try to manually locate theses files and delete them and their folders or flush them or even use Tibu to flush or delete the apps and then reboot and reinstall.

That's the problem. I've tried all of that. I have to say, I'm very saddened by this issue. I tried Adam's one-click as well, but for some reason, my java won't allow it to open, and I do have the latest. Man, I'm really at a loss on this one... Ireally appreciate the response though. Hmm.... I'm really not sure what to do at this point.

it may be your windows. disable firewall? and anti-virus programs?
it may be helpful to borrow someone else's pc - (I had good luck with winXp), install java and try it again.
you're best bet is heimdall from what I read about it.
edit: you may have a corrupt partition at the location, i think heimdall will correct this.

Yeah, I disabled all that. I don't have another personally, but I may be able to borrow my sister's at some point if I can find the cable for the monitor. My brother in-law has a Mac, maybe I could use that if I could figure out how to use newer Mac softwares.

hmm...i remembered similar problems when i had tried odin first after all the kies and sammy drivers etc - i think it may have borked my usb to recognize heimdall
almost gave up until i tried heimdall first on a different PC...worked immediately.
i guessing your window version and usb drivers may be corrupt...
If you don't have another pc, un-install generic usb drivers and then re-install or try a new usb adapter or hub may fix it.
Maybe reinstall windows?
I may even give it a shot with a virtual box running XP if that'll work.
I have to get up early tomorrow morning, so I'm gonna pick this back up later tomorrow. Thanks a lot for all the help qkster. Hopefully I can get this baby up and running again.
no prob..good luck

OK. Unplug your phone then plug it back in and you should see something like USB connection, choose charge only. If you haven't enabled developer options yet do so by going into settings, then About phone, software info, then tap on Build number like 7 times. After that go back into settings then development options then enable USB debugging and you should pretty much be set.

Cant update unrooted device

I removed root via SU, ran root checker to confirm, but I still cannot get OTA updates, get message saying "this device is suspected in rooting"
I can't unroot it any more than I have..
my main reason is the GPS, my phone has the poorest performing GPS of any phone I have had going back to my Google G1, gps will not lock while in a vehicle, cannot use google maps or any other nav.
Im hoping the update will fix it, failing that I will have to send it in for replacement, either way I need it fully unrooted.
Any ideas?

As far as I can tell, a PC is the only way. Make sure you find one with a USB 2.0 port.
Not an option, at all.

Can't root one plus 7 pro please help

Let me just start by saying I'm pretty much completely new to this, I've only ever rooted one phone before (Galaxy note 5 about 5 years ago) but I'm having several issues trying to root my OnePlus 7 pro. I've enabled usb debugging and oem unlocking but when I try to load into the bootloader the phone doesn't respond to the command. Alternatively I've also tried to to root using Kingo (both apk and PC versions) but it fails. Model is GM 1917 and I'm on Android 11.0.5.1 Any help would be greatly appreciated
