Sorry, but I've been searching everywhere to try and fix this but ive hit a wall. I have an AT&T MB865 and could not seem to change the APN settings or add any new APNs. The AT&T stock loaded APNs have been locked and uneditable. There was and still is NO OPTION to add a new APN.
I had trouble rooting this phone but just managed yesterday after doing a factory reset and used the one click root. I've installed root explorer, titanium back up, apn backup and restor, busy box along with super user and can get to the directories well enough.
i tried using APN back up & restore, but couldn't seem to add an APN or delete and APN even after using super user to give it system application status. I still get the error message stating that Android 4.0+ does not allow 3rd party applications to access APN settings.
In any case, i thought i would try to manually delete the existing APNs and managed to get into data > data> com.android.providers.telephony > databases and deleted all of the files in there per another thread. The APNs disappeared but there is STILL NO OPTION to add a new APN.
I am trying to load Straight Talk APNs in order to get data access. I can make calls, send regular texts, but cannot use data or send MMS.
Any help in getting proper APNs added and data working would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone else (that lives/works in a lte aria) and is running a ics rom.
Test something. Remove the att browser SecBrowser_ATT.apk.
install the aosp browser Browser.apk. set the correct permissions and reboot.
I saw in MHX'S thread that He was having issues connecting to lte when removing the att browser and replacing it with the aosp browser.
Thanks
if no one else does I will test tonight as im not in an LTE area this moment. maybe try leaving in the app but just freezing it?
Personally i have done this switch but don't remember if i've seen LTE since then.
LTE still works with AOSP browser, just tried it.

did you remove the att browser first?

Renamed it to .bak, copied in Browser.apk, rebooted.
lte will still work, since its already been configured. you need the stock browser on first boot though, no?

You're correct. Just did a wipe data/factory restart and when the phone came up only data connection was named 'Cingular 410' configured to the wap.cingular apn-- so 4G only.
Added the pta apn and LTE came back up.
Didn't have PreloadInstaller.apk, SecBrowser_ATT.apk, SecBrowserTests.apk or any of the device managment apks loaded during the wipe and reboot.
Did some more testing on this and found that we don't actually need the stock browser on first boot to get the pta APN configured for LTE.
While the SecBrowser has some csc login coded into it, it's actually CSC.apk that configures the apn setting on first boot by reading the configuration from /system/csc/customer.xml and /system/csc/others.xml
from others.xml:
Code:
<DefaultApn>
<ProfileName>AT&T PTA</ProfileName>
</DefaultApn>
<DefaultApnString>AT&T PTA,pta,,,,,,,,,310,410,0,default</DefaultApnString>
Verified this by building a stock rom image of the ics leak, removing SecBrowser_ATT.apk and replacing it with the AOSP Browser.apk, doing a factory reset and booting into the rom.
On the first boot, initially apn is 'Cingular 410', but then changes to 'AT&T pta' a minute or two after booting.
Also verified that I could change the APN setting in the csc configuration files and those new settings would take on boot. (BTW, can also set browser bookmarks, phone boot contacts, default keyboard in the csc files.)
I also noticed that in my rom if i did not have att browser in and aosp browser removed the android.process.phone would fc on first reboot. so for the time being I will just leave att browser in.

I noticed the phone FC when I swapped browsers in an existing rom, but didn't have that problem when flashing a fresh rom with only the AOSP Browser installed.
mine always does that fc when I boot up even when the rom is fresh off a flash.
LTE did work for me with the att out and ASOP in. confirmed today.
Hey guys,
I'm runnign AOSPX BR1 and I'm trying to find a way to backup the tether settings in the settings menu so that I don't have to re-type my SSID and passphrase every time I re-flash. I didn't have much luck finding it via TiBu.
Anyone have any suggestions?
The one thing that comes to mind is finding this file in the system and backing that up manually, then re-flashing it as a zip after I flash a new rom. Is this plausible?
EDIT: I looked through the rom ZIP and found some tethering related stuff in the settings.apk file (and nowhere else). Going to try backing up settings.apk but not quite sure if it stores the actual tethering settings here. WIll report back soon with results when I re-flash

These are system Settings. While TIBU can do this it is not advised to restore any system settings as the way they are handled are changed often and will cause issues when restored. This is one of the prices one pays for flashing custom roms.

Yeah, that was one of my concerns with backing it up. Thanks zelendel!

So, I'm obviously new... I've been flashing roms for about 2 months now. Anyhow, I recently flashed a rom (rls12) and for some reason, my mms settings are gone! I managed to find bits and pieces online and it [artially works. What I mean is, if I'm not on wifi, it sends in a hurry. If I'm on wifi, nothing happens. It just keeps spinning, like it's trying but nothing happens. Will someone give me the Apn settings. I tried to do a backup on titanium, but for whatever reason, when i either restore the dialer data or dialer app or both, the message app forcecloses. So I'm kind of out of options... Please helpppp..
I would suggest flashing SynergyRom r484, The installer has a superwipe option, Make sure to backup everything you want to external sdcard! And install from external sdcard only. Then select superwipe and the apps & options you want. If your on Verizon select Bypass activation but Don't select the GSM option. I don't like the last two performance options myself. Repeat BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU WHAT AND NEED TO EXTERNAL SDCARD AND INSTALL FROM EXTERNAL SDCARD ONLY. Not trying to be rude just its very important to do if you superwipe. That should get you back apns if not then read up on odin. That will take you back to complete stock and you will have to root and unlock again. But you will be able to take the ota and then root and unlock if you want. If you go this route follow the instructions for jb the old ics root & stuff will not work.
Good Luck
Cruzin the Galaxy SIII via SynergyRom/Anthrax kernels
484 will work. MMS over wifi is not native. It is a hack and has to be in rom.
I fixed it. Not sure how really. Lol. Well I do know. Lol. I did a dirty flash of rls12 and changed to aop. Then it was force closing. I restored my back up of my messaging settings from rls11 through titanium back up and it worked. If anyone else is having this problem I'll be glad to send my backup settings. Once someone tells me how lol

I seem to be missing the wifi calling settings in my phone. (it should be above the Wifi Settings, but it is not). I tried following the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/quick-guide-enabling-hidden-features-t3087506
and added the xml line in features.xml (i added it inside the features block, i'm sure i did it correctly). restarted the phone, and nothing. I am stock rooted, using ping pong root, with no modifications. (i only needed root to restore google authenticator, which i can't be bother to reset all my totp tokens..a bit annoying there's no way to restore them)
anyway, any reason why i don't have the option to begin with? or why i can't seem to enable it?
Any help would be amazing. thanks.
I had the same problem a long time ago. Didn't have the option and was messing with the features. xml folder to no avail. What I ended up doing was flashing stock firmware and basically copy and paste the XML file to my backup. That worked for me
Hi, I installed the Custom ROM LineageOS on my Samsung S5 phone. I have also added the GAPPS. The Wifi works but cannot get the data to work. I created a new APN and entered the settings carefully but didn’t work. I have tried restarting, removing the battery, removing and re-installing the simm card, deleting the cache from TWRP recovery, but nothing works.
There is a preferred network type and its set to LDE/WCDMA by default so not sure if this needs changing. Someone in a video also suggested changing Bearer inside the APN to include LTE and keep unspecified ticked too. But no luck.
I don’t want to have to go back to the Stock ROM as its slow and sluggish and full of bloatware. The phone runs like lightning using the custom ROM.
There was another thread that suggested downloading the GiffGaff App and let the App download and configure the APN settings automatically. I downloaded the app but can’t see any option for this.
Any ideas?
I had this problem before on other ROMs, usually removing and putting the SIM back in worked for me
edit: sorry- I didn't read the part where you said you removed and put back the SIM
