Hey guys, long time lurker here.
I just got my Nexus 5 yesterday and I've been busy installing all my usual apps. I got to one problem, flash doesn't work! I use flash to watch streaming videos using an app called Teevox; I really hate browsing through the twitch.tv app menus to find a stream I want to watch.
Has anyone been able to get flash to work? I tried downloading and installing the latest APK as I have with any other device, but no dice this time. It seems flash may finally be really really dead on android.
You may want to try another browser such as dolphin, or firefox.

Hey, thanks for the response. I've tried using firefox and dolphin, and neither have worked. It looks like something either 4.4 related or N5 related causing it not to work anymore. I guess without any official support from Adobe, flash is basically dead on the N5.

Hope someone can get Flash to work on N5
This is one of the reasons I like Android..
Frankly I considered it dead ages ago. Using it now is terrible, battery draining, and most GOOD websites do not require flash on mobile devices anymore. Hell, even YouTube is rapidly phasing out Flash playback.

Those "good" websites require that mobile mode is used, so it won't work in Desktop mode. Also, many of them which show HD video, only do so in desktop mode as flash, but in mobile mode, quality is significantly decreased (probably due to the website trying to save you data on your plan).
OP, I too can't get Flash to work on my N5, but it does on my N7 and N10. If that seems to be the case in the long run, i'll just keep those two on 4.3, since I'm usually in desktop mode.

Interestingly enough, flash works on the N10 with 4.4 (in FF). I'll try on the NN7 when my girl gets home. So the question becomes, why not the N5?
Are you trying only in chrome? Chrome stopped supporting flash in 4.1. Has anyone tryed Firefox

stock browser allows flash usage.

Puffin can run flash.
Its free for 1 week, and then its a small amount.
Really like it, but love chrome for the non-flash webpages.

With just Samsung and Adobe holding on does it matter?
Sites are still going to want to move to HTML5 and anything else but flash, they're not going to stick with it because some Samsung devices support it and cause complications / shaft everyone else.
I'm surprised to hear this. I thought Flash can't be downloaded anymore on Android so I'm surprised to learn it's still going to be supported at all.

If you go to Google play on your phone it can be problematic. However ( if you have a "compatible device") you can go to google play on a computer, and PUSH it to your device, as I did for my ASUS TF700.

For now it matters. Yes, sites are going to HTML 5, but they won't all get there overnight. I think it's a little early to pull the plug on supporting Flash.

I was pretty sure adobe had already announced that they were going to continue to support it by providing security updates and such but you could no longer download it straight from the play store.

Yes because if you expect every single Site on the entire Internet to get re-encoded to embedded html5 video you are about as crazy as Steve Jobs.
Flash is quick, dirty, and will play on a Windows 98 machine with ie5 installed.
Try doing that with html5.
Don't get me wrong, flash us a huge pain. It can get buggy, hogs resources to use, and is not as pretty, but once again, flash will remain as a legacy format around the Web in much the same way quicktime is still stuck in sites circa 1999...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You can still get the apk from adobe too.
but it's pointless becuase flash isn't power efficient and does not fully comfortable for andorid OS
My feelings are that while it is a legacy program its still worth having even if its just set to tap to use because you never know when your going to come across a web site that doesnt use HTML5
My mate purchased a Nexus 7 and it was updated to Jellybean. However he can't use flash now because the creators haven't built it to support anything later than 4.0.x. Will our beloved Notes cease to have flash player too when we finally update? Or is there a work around already in place?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Actually, this is because flash has been totally pulled for 4.1 Jelly Bean. This was announced quite a while ago, the talk started about the time of ICS, I think? Not exactly sure when it arose, though.
The reason behind it is simple, though. Flash is out dated. It's actually rather bad because of how buggy it is. Everyone's taking a step away from it now - EVEN Adobe. This has happened due to the power of HTML5. HTML5 fully supports the direct hosting of video and audio components.
I don't know of many places you'd actually need flash. Youtube obviously no longer uses it on their apps (as it's ran by Google. For them to remove flash and totally break one of their biggest internet services is nonsensical.) and the only thing I could think of that you might actually use Flash is if you're doing movie streams. Which, of course, could be problematic.
I'd say you shouldn't try to get flash back. Since it's obsolete and not supported for your device, it will cause some major problems.
Search ..
I saw many different methods to make Flash work on Nexus 7 ..Such as Firefox flash add-on and some other stuffs ..

I understand what you are saying, but not everything has not moved away from flash. I agree if you do not use anything that requires it, then don't worry, but there is still a need for Flash. I watch sports on firstrowsports.eu and vipbox.tv on my Fire, rooted with 4.1, and it still requires flash. It is definitely not obsolete, but it is getting there.

Agreed. Flash has been around for over a decade. You cant just do away with it in a year or two. I agree that high traffic, constantly updated websites are quickly migrating to html5. But that doesnt account for the thousands if not millions of other sites or practical applications that are still in use. For example, i am in college and often times have to watch video lectures...recorded in flash format. Its going to take alot of time, resources, and money for an html5 implementation of all video lectures across every class in my college that has flash video lectures or other applications. Also think of the flash implementations in the business sector. They are not going to spend the time and money converting so quickly especially when what they currently have in flash still works. I understand the need to move away from flash, but to force ppl the way they are is not going to work. They need do move away but at the same time, keep some backwards compatibility. Instead of releasing newer versions with new features, they only continue to release security updates. In the meantime, they can announce that flash will have an End of Life date set for sometime in the future. This will not only give others time to implement html5 but it will also encourage them to move away from a product that will be expiring and move to its successor.
yes!

I just got the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from the AT&T store, kinda a spur of the moment thing, I've been wanting it and just kinda went for it. Got it home and couldn't get First Row Sports to work, website would load but video would not show up. I found the APK file posted in there, that goes down to Adobe Flash 11.1, my phone came with 11.2. Now it seems to work, I get video playing on first row sports. Just on "Link 1", but whenever I try to click the red X to close the very bottom ad, over the Fullscreen and volume buttons, the video just freezes. I have to refresh the window to get the video to play again, and i just don't click on the bottom ad to close it out. Does this happen to anyone else or just me, is there a workaround for that?

Is not just through home pages, is the perfomance in general. In the stock email client I the lag is tremendous and I like the handwriting for inputs but I had to stop using because the lag.
That's very odd, I have no lag... In fact with the 2gb of ram it pretty much flies through everything I throw at it. Handwriting is the easiest way to put in info for me and I find there's no problem.
If there is a heap of lag, have you put any apps on that might have malware or be a virus because on the PC that's the 1st indication of a virus.
If you do the hard reset and find it works better then try 1 app at a time, especially if you sideload apps not from the playstore.
If there is still a heap of lag I'd return it especially as these are not cheap little toys...
Actually mine is very fast I manage to get the stock jelly bean on it and it is super fast right now. Try doing a factory restore and don't put so much widget

What you're describing isn't typical. If it was people would be screaming bloody murder. Quite a few people have come from Teg3 tablets and have commented on an improvement in speed and fluidity and those tablets and the Note are the fastest Android tablets on the market right now.
- Did you buy the tablet new and did it perform the way you described before you loaded any of your own apps and settings on it?
- What model is it (8000, 8005, 8010, 8013) and are you using an SD card in it? If so, what kind of SD card and how is it formatted? If it's a 8000 or 8005 do you have a SIM in it and from what carrier?
- What region is it from and what's the current s/w build number? (Settings>about device)
- Have you tried restoring to the factory settings without loading any apps on it to see how it performs?
Here's a vid from a while ago showing mine doing a bunch of stuff. If yours isn't performing the same way something's wrong with it.

Are you using Exchange email account? I had the same problem till I re-installed this exch account and made syncing just for last month (not all over 10.000 emails like before).
Make sure u ain't using it while connected to wall charger or pc. I've noticed it lagging a lot in these two scenarios for some reason not known to me.
So did you ever get this resolved? I got my new sealed 32gb today and the email clients lag is horrible.also had terrible lag using browser and xda site. The video player is choppy. I have cleared the apps and even powered off and back on .I am very surprised it's this lag ridden.

It is very surprising. Mine has been lag free since day one.
All the responses to this thread have been on point. Try some of the tips, like make sure power saver mode is disabled, do a factory reset, make sure its not just one app doing that tto you, or maybe you have an email client trying to load 100,000 emails?
If you hold the home button, it brings out the ttask manager. Check ram usage and then clear the ram. See if that helps.
If none of that hhelps, try odining to stock firmware and if you still have lag after that, it is simply not a hardware issue and you should go get it replaced

The only lag I see is when you switch between multi window which has been known since day one. It has about a one second delay when switching between windows in multi screen. Not a big deal to me but other wise its seems fine. And if your complaining about anything else you did in that video then I dont think you'll ever be happy cause it seems fine to me especially with all the widgets and apps you have on the home screen and how many processes you were running.
Well I think I have nailed it down the 2 things that makeitstart lagging.
1. Stock mail client
2. Browsing with the stock browser and viewing XDA.
also can anyone else confirm engaget.com is very choppy in scrolling?

Yeah, you're more than a little behind the times. The Flash whitelist was removed from RT about half a year ago. I'm amazed your device was sold with the OS that badly out of date, in fact.
Oh, and Flash for Android was officially deprecated even earlier, and no longer works on most devices (plus the latest version available is badly outdated).

Shows the superiority of RT for web browsing. Fully fledged desktop browser, yet still plays nicely with touch. Sorry but chrome and firefox for android do not come even close to internet explorer, and I don't even like internet explorer normally, firefox probably comes closest but I have found to be generally more buggy in other areas and slower too so I discount that.
Kenif, update your surface.
Otherwise, OP, the site appears to work although I am genuinely surprised that there is no spotify app yet. That would be a much nicer solution.

48 hours, i think is for the prenium try, i use spotify since a long time, and i never spent anything.
Now i use the play.spotify.com on my RT and it work fine.
Prenium is great when you listen a long time... because after X hours ( i dont remember how many) you can't listen anymore. Prenium is pretty cool too, if you want to listen your music without any connection...
On a tangent...
If you're in the UK and on Virgin Media, they normally offer you 3 to 6 months of spotify premium for free
Yup free trial here from VM, although I did used to pay for it, I was on a £35pcm o2 contract, once that finished and I moved to GiffGaff I was paying £10pcm so the £9.99 for Spotify still meant I was paying less.
Once my trial is up then I'll see if I can get another trial, I only really use Spotify when driving to/from work as I dont have a stereo in the car...

Clearly you didnt even read the original post which asked and had answered the very same question. Yes play.spotify.com works if you have either updated the software so flash player works on all sites (quite an old update now) or use the whitelist tool (and if you need the whitelist tool you are months behind update wise and should really drop into the windows update tool some time)
I tried it on my android smartphone after 48 hours i cannot hear any song ... "no streaming without premium"

I use IbVPN but with another phone. So far it works. I assume any VPN solution would work.
Boy, that is probably the most misleading topic ever.
Anyway, the Nexus 5 has nothing to do with being caught tethering as your carrier can tell you're doing it by the user agent of the browser (the most typical method of detecting tethering) and other ways as well.
As for a workaround, there are several available but there's no guarantee on any of them that you won't get busted even so.
It's a chance you take - the carrier tells you it's against the service agreement and you choose to do it anyway; if you get popped and lose your service, the blame lies solely with you alone.
The user agent in this case is android using dolphin browser. Should appear Amy different than my phone.
I'm not whining, BTW, I'm aware of risk and consequence and adult about it. I'm also cheap, so after having used several nexus phones in the past the exact same way and never getting popped sure makes it look like the 5 is the problem doing the reporting about tether use.

I'm not whining, BTW, I'm aware of risk and consequence and adult about it. I'm also cheap, so after having used several nexus phones in the past the exact same way and never getting popped sure makes it look like the 5 is the problem doing the reporting about tether use.

This is bad news. I have always been able to tether any tablet through my Nexus device on Tmobile and browse with the stock browser and Netflix app. I have a feeling, Google is playing dirty and sending T-mobile/provider some kind of notice that tethering is now 'on'. I wish they'd develop an app like they did for Google Glass that proxying packets for ANY tethered device. Stick it to the carrier. Especially, Verizon.
