Activating 16 GB Sprint Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All of the issues i have heard are about the 32 GB Nexus 5 being activated.. but they couldnt activate my 16GB black version even dropping the lasting digit of the IMEI.. what gives? Do I need a SIM card? I also had to replace mine as the speaker was dead on arrival.. should I be prepared with a micro sim card? This has to be the most botched release ever. I feel like I have spent $400 and nobody is willing to help me or tell me how the hell to get this working!

Here says its now fixed: http://androidandme.com/2013/11/news/sprint-is-having-problems-activating-the-nexus-5/
See bottom of article "Update: The issue has been fixed by Sprint! Their activation service now recognizes all Nexus 5 devices and they will have no problems activating your device. So if you were not able to before, try again now and report back!"

Someone in that thread mentioned that if you bought from Google Play you need to have a SIM card still, do we know if that is true of the 16 GB ver?

Lost reception doesn't come back without restart

I've been having a problem lately with my Captivate. At my work there's a complete dead zone where I lose reception completely (the 4 bars are replaced by a circle with a cross through it). However, when I leave work and go back home the reception never comes back - I've waited and waited and waited, but it still stays Xed out.
The phone requires a restart, and after that it picks up reception normally.
has anyone experienced this?
Did you try enabling flight mode, then turning it back off? Same effect as restarting the phone for your signal problem.
But in answer to your question, I've never had that problem. I have had a problem getting my signal back, but I just hold the phone in the open for a bit, and then stick it in my pocket again once I obtain service.

I have, and it doesn't work. I have to turn the phone off and back on again.
I have the exact same issue.
I was having the same problem. They changed out the SIM card and have not had the problem sense. If your SIM has been through a few phones my not hurt to get a new one.

Thanks, I just ordered a new SIM card online. My existing one is 4 years old and scratched up like crazy, that may be it.
On a different note, once I receive my new SIM card does anyone know how to associate it with my plan? The ebay listing for the SIM card said to do it through the following website but I'm not sure which option is correct ("upgrade phone" perhaps?)

For simplicities sake and for your own safety, take it into at&t and have them do it. At least you know it will be done correctly.

att gives u free sim card if goto their main stores
If you get a new sim just call at&t and tell them you need to change the sim number.

I've been through many AT&T stores and they always charge me $25 for a new SIM. How'd you get free ones?

You must be going to private franchises because AT&T charges them for SIMs. If you call 611, they would make a notation to your account that you get a free one and the franchise would get reimbursed by AT&T.
I had to get a new SIM with my phone and it experiences this same issue. Has anybody had any luck with getting rid of the problem?

I don't believe they were private. They are regular at&t stores. But next time I'm definitely calling 611 for my similar problems

i have the same issue. i got a new sim when i got the phone and i rarely touch the sim. I bought the phone on launch day and have only just started seeing the issue. it seems to me that it started after the OTA patch but it is still happening after i flashed Cognition v2.1.7

[Q] Did you had to replace your SIM card after using XT720 for a while?

like the topic says
did any of you had to replace your SIM card after using XT720 for a while? like after a few months or few weeks?
i know a friend of mine he had to change his SIM card after a few weeks
and now my own XT720 is constantly losing the SIM card, until i reboot the phone
if i take out the SIM card i see 2 contact spot that seems to be worn, which was previously normal.
it seems to be related to how often you use the Vibrate option
replacing a new SIM card with the network provider fixes the issue of course.
just wanted to see if other have experienced this issue
thanks
I know generally on WIND, sim cards tend to burn out for some reason. Haven't experienced it myself but I know its a frequent occurrence with some.
Yea I had the same problem. Cincinnati bell replaced my sim card for free. I originally had a regular sim card and they bumped me up to the 3g card. Which was no different but a different color. I lost service all together and it wouldn't return. Its prolly the oven Motorola hid in this thing heating the card up.

I had to replace mine within a few months, and I am also on WIND. Though, mine was an older generation (white SIM card), and they upgraded me to the 'Blackberry generation', which has the black color.
No, ive been using this sim card since 7 years lol on multiple phones and its seen countless hours of vibration. Really weird that you mention it because Im sure the carriers in my country make the ****tiest sim cards.
I've been using my XT720 on WIND with the black SIM card since Sept.2010 no failures yet.

That is funny bc I have been using my same one for about 6 years too. Now that I say that though, it will probably peter out on me. Crap....
I've been using this SIM card since 2 yrs ago and I switch it from one phone to another a lot. it's pretty worn-out by now. but still, it's working perfectly with my XT. no problems yet.

I used my sim card from an old phone when buying this and the cbw rep. put it in for me but failed to tell me it wasn't a 3g sim card. So now I have a 3g sim card and it is better. You all with old sim cards sure they are 3g cards? Just askin just in case lol.

Ya, luckily, my 2 yrs old card is HSDPA capable sim card. (Thanks to StarHub) ;D
that's a good point you guys bring up
all the SIM cards that "burned" / "worn", or whatever might have happened to them were the white ones
the black ones are fine
sorry for the false alarm guys, seems like it was a WIND specific problem with a crappy batch of white SIM cards
Yes I had to replace my sdcard. The one that came with the phone became corrupted when I was running 2.1 a while back. I bought a class 6 and it has worked better but lately I keep finding files becoming corrupted out of the blue...
*edit* sorry wrong thread I thought it said SDCARD
Sim card never been replaced since i inserted it back in Feb 2011 so 6 months
Was using an X10i and it constantly had issues with sim card, its dropped it like every 30 min.
I had to swap etc.
Alternative was to get a replacement in some weird shop. I didnt go for it.
Got an xt720 ad only looked back to sigh and x10's getting 2.3
I have not had to replace it per-say, but I have had to remove it once or twice and put it back in because the phone said my SIM card was not in the device.

straight talk ridiculous!!!!

i have been on the phone on and off with them for well over 8 hours today!!! here's the deal... i tried to use the tmobile sim. cut the card perfectly and the phone didnt recognize the card. obvious, i damaged the card. i already activated that tmobile sim card and i ported my old at&t phone number. so... i pop in the mini sim at&t card for straight talk in the phone... i sit on the phone forever trying to talk to technical support(im actually on the phone now with these idiots)... i finally speak to someone and they activate the sim card. tell me to wait 10 minutes then cut the phone off and then on. this occurred about 2 hours ago. the phone recognizes the sim but it says no service. what do i do? im sick to death of waiting online. this phone i have is the international one x. i had no problems with at&t pay as you go. anybody have these kinds of problems? please help before i chop all my fingers and feed them to my oscar
So...... what even happened ?
You originally wanted to activate with T-Mobile, yes ? But then you broke the SIM card and are trying to activate on Straight Talk ?
How did you activate the T-Mobile SIM and port the number when it wasn't even in the phone ?
You should consider using Google Voice and porting your number there so you don't have to worry about changing numbers on the actual phone again.
Otherwise, this sounds like an issue that only their customer service is going to be able to resolve. Porting a number can take a while, and it's possible there are complications if you just did it two times in a row. I don't know if the phone's supposed to use an assigned number before that or if you just have to wait.
Did you check your account on-line to see if it shows you as activated or whatever ?

Swap phone with Metro PCS *228 not working?

So I just got a new Nexus 5, and I was able to easily swap phones on Metro PCS by myself, just switching the Micro SIM card to another compatible CDMA/GSM phone, dialing *228, and have the operator do it free of charge (they scam you 10 to 15 bucks at the stores).
But for whatever reason, I can't do that with the Nexus 5. The SIM is recognized, but there is no modile network to call *228.
I read one vague post by somebody saying older Micro SIM cards don't work on Nexus 5, but it didn't specify much...
Anyone know any info on this?

I was told that metro was getting rid of *228 and using *611 instead... I haven't tried *611 yet personally but worth a shot.
You can do it yourself on the metro pcs website also.
I don't know if this could help http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/themes-apps/app-sim-changer-change-registered-sim-t2106490 however it does seem to detect the number store on my SIM.
Edit: you need xposed to run it. I wouldve tried this if I knew about it before trying to get my imei to register through countless metropcs representatives cause I couldn't register it online.

invalid card

can some one please help me....i purchased an unlocked former sprint lg g flex 2 from ebay to use with my gsm sim card.
I have used the phone for 10 days without any problem but from nowwhere today it just showed invalid card.
when i reinsert the sim,it detects the sim for about 10 min and then brings a pop up on the screen saying "the phone ll reboot until you insert a valid sim card"then it reboots and stays on invalid sim.
Tried a different sim it also works for roughly 5 min and then does the same thing.
I have tried hard reset, factory reset, rebooting it and everything that i found on google but nothing works, still stack on "INVALID CARD"
Any help please i ll appreciate!

Best thing to do is return it. Never buy a sprint device for use on GSM carriers. Only buy a sprint device if you intend on using it on Sprint.

No clue. Getting it to work can be difficult or could be easy. But it's just not a reliable device to use on GSM carriers.
Did you make sure network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE?
If so your best bet is to check out this thread not sure if it still applies https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/sprint-g-flex-2ls996-gsm-domestic-t3122813

Just unrooting wouldn't solve the issue. The device was most likely rooted with changes to make it work with a gsm carrier. That phone in its stock state won't work on any other carrier at all besides sprint.

You should be able to since it's updating. But updating will actually make it to where you won't ever be able to use it.
You have more of a chance getting it working with a GSM carrier while rooted than not.
The issue your facing is not a problem, it's supposed to say that when inserting a non Sprint sim in the sprint device.
Remember that model has to be tampered with to make it work on a GSM carrier. It's not supposed to work on a non sprint carrier without things being changed.

Broken Antenna
I've had my LG G Flex 2 for a little over a year and this happened to me.
SOLUTION: The antenna is most likely broken and needs to be replaced. The lady at sprint said it is common with this phone so I'll try to figure out how to do that.

Yeah but your using the device on sprint? These users are not. They're using it on a GSM network outside of the US this issue is over the software not hardware.
