Obtaining Recovery for OTA Update - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, so I rooted using motoroot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442585) and I just unrooted using the same app. I'm told, however, that I need to have stock recovery in order to get the OTA update without having a bootloop. How do I do this?
This is for a Droid Maxx btw.
Thanks for the help

I'm looking for the same answer. Accidentally tried installing the ota and ended up in a boot loop. Ended up having to freeze the ota apk in the 30 seconds I had between reboots. Would like to take the ota and re root using the new method but I'm not sure if I just have to unroot or if I have to flash anything.

The above link will help. You will need to flash back to stock. The PwnMyMoto root exploit removes your stock recovery.

[Q] Install OTA update on my rooted ICS is crashing my phone

Hello all. I seem to have hit a snag while trying to achieve rooted JB. I used Matt's Utility to flash back to 4.0.4 and rooted the device before installing SafeStrap and Voodoo. After all this though, I am unable to upgrade my phone via the Verizon OTA updates as it fails on reboot and takes me to the recovery screen with the red triangle. I can't do a manual update either of the update as SafeStrap gives me an error whenever I try to flash the file (Status 4: e-signature verification failed). Even roms that I have successfully used in the past are now producing this error when attempting to flash.
Does anyone know what this is a symptom of?
Do you have any other recovery besides the stock recovery installed?
You cannot do the OTA update with a non-stock recovery.
Phone but be completely stock (except Root) to do OTA.

Get rid of safestrap, and reinstall it AFTER the JB upgrade. Safestrap always causes problems with OTA updates.
Resolved. Thanks for the answers, you were absolutely right. Reran steps 1 through 3 on the utility, installed all OTA updates after protecting root in order to achieve rooted JB. Installed safest rap afterwards. I wish this was clearer in the utility or on the instructions online. Enjoying batakang right now, cheers!

Update OTA after root

Hi , i have my one s rooted but i have recived one update message of one update.
For this my question is , How to update after root?
I´m trying install but every time i can do it , the phone goes to teamwin recovery.
Help me.
I can tell you my experience with TMO US 2.35.531.12 minor update. First, I needed to flash stock recovery. It didn't work with a custom recovery (mine was TWRP). Then I needed to revert HBOOT state back to "relocked." Then for this particular update I was required to unroot.
Not sure if these apply to you but apparently these are pretty common processes you may need to go through for an OTA update for HTC devices, even with stock firmware. For the 2.35.531.10 update I didn't have to unroot.
Must have to relock. Im rooted. Stock recovey. Ota wont complete. Unrooted, still wont complete.

[Q] Unlocked XT926, can't flash custom recovery

Help! I cannot flash a custom recovery onto my phone (Verizon/RAZR Maxx HD). I used to have SafeStrap installed and it worked fine. One day I took a OTA update and lost root. So I used RSD Lite to re-flash my stock partition so I could take advantage of Towelroot and Motopocolypse while they still worked and was successful in doing both. So my phone was unlocked and rooted again and I was so happy I just used it as is for a few months. Later on, on decided it was time to try a new ROM, at which point I attempted to flash CWM recovery and it failed. So then I tried flashing SafeStrap again, and now that also failed. Then, in the process of troubleshooting failure to flash a custom recovery I managed to unroot myself (thanks to someone's bad advice). ... And of course this happened after I already took the OTA update that patched the towelroot exploit. So now my phone is Unlocked but not rooted anymore. I still cannot flash CWM (which is what I'd like to do) and use a custom ROM. Any helpful advice or constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!
Currently on Android 4.4.2, System Version 183.46.15.xt926.Verizon.en.US
Are you sure you are unlocked? Boot into your fastboot screen and tell us what it says. If you are unlocked, it's easy to regain root. Flash a recovery (try TWRP since CWM seems to not work) and flash a SU zip.

Same Issue
Apparently they slipped in a fix for towelroot because I losr root. Still have an unlocked bootloader thanks to motopokalyse. I actually jacked my stock recovery and am working on fixing now. I'll let you know if I get it fixed and can flash a recovery.

[Q] Help Req: Updating Rooted/CWM MotoG to Lollipop

Hi,
I have a UK Moto G (2013) running 4.4.4 KitKat and I installed CWM recovery and rooted it some time ago. Now they are pushing out Lollipop OTA I am getting nagged by the phone to update - but, it always fails when I try. Presumably this will be because of the CWM and/or root. I tried a full unroot but that didn't help as CWM kept complaining on the upgrade reboot about something (can't remember what now!). I've read that in order to get the OTA update to work, I have to get the phone completely back to stock, but I can't find a working stock recovery for it. Do I have to take it back to stock or not ? Either way, would anyone know how I can get the OTA update to work please ?
I've tried flashing a couple of stock recoveries, but one fails to flash at all and the other doesn't work - you choose recovery and it just reboots the phone.
At the moment it's back to rooted, unlocked bootloader and CWM recovery.
Any help you could offer would be very gratefully received.
Thanks!
