They do not use the same radio, the radio in the Nexus is a newer model with features the G2 lacks such as LTE Envelope Tracking.

interesting. I gonna have to look that up. thanks

I did a write-up on the radio in the General Nexus 5 forum, maybe search by my username. Suffice to say the radio in this phone is only in 1 other phone and that is the Note 3.

That links in my thread as well as another source. Qualcomm also has a article on this radio, its quite a sweet piece of tech.

So we need a brave soul to attempt to flash a note 3 modem baseband on the n5?

Possibly gaining access to lte band 13.

More likely to come from the muckings between the two Nexus model firmwares.

I was actually thinking about doing that. My Nexus 5's radio is doing horrible compared to my ATT note 3. Since they use the same radio it would be worth a shot.

Sure, if you want to brick your radio.
By the way, LTE bands are not software limited. Flashing a radio will not open up bands

Not concerned with the bands just the reliability.
At this point my nexus is already bricked since it doesn't operate efficiently.

they do not use the same radio. the radio for the note 3 has att files included, and has been tested for att by att. the nexus 5 radio uses a more generic form of radio, since google doesnt let the carriers add anything to any nexus. flashing the note 3 radio would essentially make the nexus 5 radio stop working completely, forever.

Battery life is up to how you use it but bugs and bootloops are not happening out of box.
For me coming from Note 3, battery life is still ok. Lasts me the day. :good:

I don't know will the phone be locked. At first, I was like other who think this can only be unlock. But after I read around, I heard if a person buy the phone from some US carrier w/ contract(at least that's what I heard about Sprint anyway), it's locked. So, the question about whether it's lock or not, it's best to ask your uncle who get the phone for you, how does he get the phone?

he is normally going to buy phone. I guess from amazon or google. Idk. He is not going to buy on contract.
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted out of the box and its been fine. But its still new technology so there can be issues.
So far my phone is flawless.

Better question than sim lock is the supported bands
Model LG-D820 (North America)
CDMA band class: 0/1/10
WCDMA bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
Model LG-D821 (Rest of World)
WCDMA bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
May need to look into that. But that's only for LTE. if he's doesn't care about LTE and only need gsm then i guess won't be a problem

[Q] Help Flashing/Rooting Before I Brick Phone

So I'm switching from Galaxy S3 to Nexus 5 and was wondering a couple of things.
1: For most phones, there are carrier version and each version had it's own rom/flashes, so for Nexus 5 I noticed that there is no separate forum for Sprint, ATT, etc. Does that mean all flashes/rooting methods work on the Nexus 5?
2: Is there something like Odin for Nexus 5?
Bump, really do need help. Don't want to brick phone.

There so no carrier version nexus 5, there are two variant, LGD820 for north america and LG821 for the rest of the world. LG820 and LGD821 are 100% the same. The only difference is a programmed chip. This chip in LGD820 programmed to work with north amrrican lte network, in LG821 this is programmed to work with not north american lte networks. This two variant is needed, because this chip only capable to handle 7 lte networks, and there are more then 7 lte network on the whole world.
Yes there are an app like odin. It is called lg flash tool, but only works with LGD820 because the dll refuse to work with LGD821, someone have to hack it to make it work for LGD821 too, and we dont have factory images, just user images so you will get the same result if just flashed a rom with fastboot.
Oh yes and nexus 5 has a mode called fastboot. You can flash system, boot, recovery images with fastboot to nexus 5, you can boot your phone with a kernel without flashing it to your phone and etc...
This would be a good thread to read through before you do anything: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508292
Also, please stay away from Toolkits. Learn how to do things the right and safe way. It will help you out in the long run and you'll know how to fix common problems.
As @El Daddy said stay away from toolkits, those cause more troubles in those hands who dont know what are they doing than they should.
+1 for ditching toolkits

[Q] PRL write? QPST does not work on Nexus 5

On Galaxy S3 there was a way to do PRL write and load Sprint corporate PRL. I have spent past couple of days trying to search the forum and the interwebs for a way to do it on stock Nexus 5.
Anyone figured out a way to load in (and have it stick) PRL manually?
There is really no answer to this? Hard to believe

Because I am on Sprint and most accounts don't get corporate PRL, which allows for more roaming on Verizon. Ever since Sprint deployed LTE in Boston, they have totally disregarded inadequate 3G coverage... So you can't get data on the subway, which I could do before on S3 with corporate PRL
Where does one find these "interwebs?"

Nexus 5 does not have Qualcomm chipset (I think it is VIA), so you can't use the popular QPST to manually write a PRL of your choice. Hence my question to see how it could be done on our chipsets.

Yes, I have seen this thread. Challenge it, it is more for flashing in other CDMA providers where you are only doing 3G.
If I follow steps outlined, I would kill the LTE.
All I want is to manually write in another PRL into the phone.

The Nexus 5 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC silly goose.
However, I researched this for you and the link posted by lilotimz has a post near the end of the thread using CDMA Workshop to flash PRLs.
After you get your Nexus 5 in Diag mode.
I remember using Sprint Tools on my galaxy nexus to flash the 00001 PRL, but I don't know if you can do it on this device.

The radio SUCKS!

I'm sitting at home nice good HSPA+ Signal then all of a sudden it just drops the EDGE
my other phone (iPhone is still on HSPA+ no issues) great so I toggle airplane mode on and off boom still edge, so I reboot and boom STILL EDGE
After a while it reconnect to HSPA+ or until it picks up LTE
Does this happen to you? It seems the radio got even crappier with 4.4.2
Im fully stock 100% I have 2 Nexus 5 units in hand one is from T-Mobile one is from play store both experience the same problem
Does anyone know if this is software or hardware Antenna or qFE1100 and does this happen to you?
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLUqguZS1Q8
Never had this issue. Tried reflashing the old radio back?
This should be in q&a by the way

no issues here as well.
Both nexus 4 and 5 suffer from signal drops.
LG and Samsung made devices in general have weaker antennas than Motorola/Apple for example.

Why would i flash back to 4.4. The Point is google ffffed up somewhere and I hope this gains momentum as right now Google does not see it as an issue and is blaming it on the carrier.
I think I'm having the same issue, my data has been bad(between .5mbps-1mbps) since I got this phone. First I thought it was the APN settings, then I thought maybe the towers, right now I'm thinking I might be throttled by at&t. I call them one person says yes, call again another person says no, wtf!
I came from a galaxy s 3 with no build problems, just slow updates. Damn I guess there's no winning with Android.

Not the point at all. Either you want a solution or you want to blame. This isn't an issue for the 3 N5's I administer so it sounds like a localised problem.

Take your Nexus 5's to an area where you don't get HSPA+ for example your basement then take it out and bring it to an area with HSPA+
Let it sit and see if it will switch to HSPA+ if not toggle airplane mode on then off then see if it will switch.

Yes WiFi calling works
Just in case you wanted a second opinion...yes, it works.
WHen I had my Note 3 and S3 (not at the same time...) wifi calling was great. But my last couple phones (Nexus 6, LG G3, HTC M8), it quality has been poor. My internet speeds have actually increased over that time too. I dont' use it anymore. I'll give it another shot on my Note 5, but I'm not holding my breath.

Of course it works - sorry, but this seems like an odd question - from what I know, ALL TMOBILE PHOnes have wifi calling - certainlly all of the TMO Phones i have owned have it - and they were all Samsung phones -
