Don't tell me there's no search option for finding sms messages in hangouts. I'm trying to find a text from a few weeks back, I managed to migrate all my sms' when I switched to the Nexus 5 but there's no search like AOSP messaging... where is it?! Going slightly mad... any help much appreciated!

Ok guys, I can't find a thread on this so here's my situation. I have a nookColor, I'm currently running Froyo on it and I would like to be able to have my Google Voice text messages get stored like normal texts so I can use something like Handcent or GoSMS to send and recieve messages through my GV number. If anyone knows of a way to do this or could point me at some files to poke through I'd be much appreciative
I don't think this is possible, but if it was, it'd be very convenient for me to have as well.

Im not sure if this has been asked and answered... My search of the nexus s forum didnt turn up much...
In google voice (where i've been receiving all of my voice and text messages) the same contact has multiple threads. It seems like each days text messages go into a new thread by default or something. Bottom line, to look at a previous day's messages i have to back out of the current days message thead and scroll down (through other contact's duplicated threads) and open the same contacts messages from a previous day.
In the default android messaging app all texts to a single contact are grouped together. google voice on the other hand makes going back through texts a pain. is there any way to make google voice text groupings behave like the stock android app?
sorry to reply to my own question.... >100 views, anyone have any ideas? is anyone with sprint even experiencing the same issue?
Yes, I am experiencing the same issue on my Nexus S on Sprint.

That's how they are grouped at voice.google.com too so I don't believe it's an app or a Sprint issue.
EDIT: Seems like it was designed that way, the reasons for which aren't clear:

I noticed the same thing. It gets kind of annoying but I just archive the old ones in case I need to go back for something. Would be nice to have one per person but perhaps it's to limit size?
Any resolution to this? I have gvoice on my HTC vision and it still seems to be creating multiple threads for the same contact (not 100% of the time, but often)
I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to Reply All when an SMS with multiple recipients is received on the Nexus 5? Is there an app or can this be done with Hangouts or the basic messaging app? It's very easy in IOS since a dropdown menu gives a choice but I don't see this on the Nexus 5.
Any advice/help gratefully appreciated.
Hello everyone. I have recently moved from a Nexus 4 with SlimKat to OnePlus One with stock. There is one feature I am missing from my old phone and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how it was set up.
With the Nexus 4, I would text someone using my carrier number on my phone. That conversation would then show up on my gmail's hangout in a browser and I can then continue the conversation there as if I'm texting using my carrier number(not my google voice number). It is extremely convenient because typing on a physical keyboard is much easier than typing on a phone. Now when I text someone on the OPO that conversation does not show up in a browser's google hangout. I have went through the settings in both phones Hangout app and don't see any difference so I'm just confused now. Is it a built in feature of SlimKat? Am I just missing an obvious setting somewhere?
If anybody has any idea, help is very much appreciated. Thank you
I'm running Oreo 8.1 with Project Fi and the SMS integration is terrible with Hangouts. I don't particularly like hangouts either but periodically apps try and send or receive SMS's and it screws up Hangouts when anything touches SMS. Does anyone know a way to actually REMOVE SMS services, drivers, whatever from Android? Basically like a tablet but with phone support. I searched high and low on forums but found nothing. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Just freeze hangouts with Titanium backup if you don't want it.

I use hangouts as it is the only option to have cloud based SMS on Project Fi that I know about. Already removed the stock messaging app but many other apps use SMS. Facebook messenger in particular activates its SMS permissions somehow every once in a while and it screws crap up.
