Im using Hangouts and I kinda like it but is it laggy for anyone else? Like when typing or trying to send multiple messages after another it kinda hangs up when typing then catches up to you and its just overall not smooth and seems to hang up alot when im trying to type and send or scroll.

Please. That's a bad excuse. Its a year old, there's no excuse for this. It's laggier than WhatsApp, Line, Kakao, Kik, Telegram, and any SMS app. That's unacceptable considering I'm using a OnePlus One which isn't a slow phone by any means.

[Q] how to get email to display like this

Hi every1. Below are screenshots from my s2 and iPhone 4.
How can I get my emails to show up just like on the iPhone.
I hate that I have to scroll on my bigger screen when all email look fine to me at 100% even on 3.5" screen.
I'm using k9 but I would have no problem switching
Thanks in advance
Luke
Pinch zoom?
I know what you mean tho.. it is kinda annoying

It actually won't zoom out all the way
Am I the only one who's bothered by this??

NO! It drives me NUTS. But I have yet to find a way to fix it. I will be following this thread!
Lol. Yea i wonder y they made.it.like this and theres not one app that has this option.
Hopefully some1 will chime in.
as a former iPhone owner also, my biggest pet peeve with droid is the mail app(s). Nothing on droid comes close to being as usable and complete as the stock mail app on iPhone, especially when it comes to Exchange. I would give anything for somebody to make something as decent as the Apple mail app.
Seems to be a problem with ICS update And the stock Android email app. My stock ROM 2.3.6 email app allows me to zoom all the way out. Obviously you can't read all the content but allows you to see pictures.

What's up with whatsapp?

Has anyone been having issues with whatsapp this week? I'm constantly getting delayed messages (30-45 mins late). Its so bad that my outgoing messages will go out and then suddenly I get messages from 20 mins ago so the conversations are mixed up. This is happening to me and my wife who is out of the country right now and several of her family members too. Just wondering if any of you guys are seeing the same behavior as well. I've searched Google for any news about this, checked their twitter, etc but can't find anything about any issues.
Thanks!

No, no such issue. It does sometimes take a while to send (even on 60Mb internet), but nothing that dramatic...
Could be the new update from 01 Juli. I've had it happen with a previous update a few months ago. Seems there are more people with recent functionality issues since the new update. (Play reviews) It's why I put off updating untill it starts whining about it, I'm still on the previous update.
Thank you! I didn't think to check the play reviews. Yep, a fair number of people saying the same thing.

If you continue to have issues with whatsapp I recommend using viber as an alternative, it's essentially the same thing but better quality servers in my opinion. You can even make free calls internationally.

thats not actually a solution bro
Sent from my Canvas 2 using xda premium
Yeah its not. I already convinced everyone to move to whatsapp from kik, plus my wife can't sign up for viber right now since she is out of the country and using a local SIM.
Having said that, the fact that viber syncs with a desktop app gives me tons of incentive to switch chat programs again. That's always been my one complaint about whatsapp. I hate being at work and having to pull out my phone to message people when I have a full keyboard sitting right there in front of me. This will be a godsend assuming I can convince all my people to switch yet again.

Me too
Me too the same thing happened to me, but the day yesterday, apparently already solved!

Wheres SMS?

Just got my N5, and aside from unlocking and whatnot that I'm doing right now, I quickly noticed no SMS app like in 4.2/4.3
Is hangouts now the substitute? If that's the case, then that blows. Ideally I wanted to use titanium to restore all of my SMS messages from my galaxy nexus.
Damn....
Hangouts is the substitute, however, check the themes and apps section, someone posted a functional AOSP messaging app. I don't know if I recommend restoring from your GN though, but that's entirely up to you.

Yeah, everything is getting integrated with Hangouts. It blows losing the old messages (I had some saved for years on there), but Hangouts is actually pretty nice.
Ya, I'm sure its killer and I don't mind change, but my wife is a little different. I don't think she'll like losing all of those txt/mms messages. I bought two nexus 5's and although I'll be ok with losing my sms's, I can't see her feeling the same opinion. lol
just install hangouts on your gnex. it'll pick up all of your sms's. then backup hangouts and restore it on your n5. I did that exact process on my n4
Sent from my Nexus 5
I used Ritesh Sahu's SMS Backup Restore app today from Gnex stock messaging to Hangouts on N5. Worked great, just had to follow the messages about setting the default app.

Just out of curiosity. Why do you need texts from years a go? What's so important about them.

I guess nothing. So long as I can extract the mms's which I know there are apps out there I guess that's all that matters. Maybe I'll just tell her to suck it up so I can save myself some work eh.

Are u guys ditching hangout for txts?

I find hangouts kinda annoying for my text stuff are you using it?
I pulled the messaging apk from CM if anyone wants it, it has quick reply and all those features... MMS.apk

yeah i ditched it. i mean i tried to use it. i really did, but it needs some work... ok it needs a ton of work and maybe another overhaul.
im using 8sms works nicely
I ditched it right away. Using the AOSP MMS.apk instead.
I'm using it, but mostly because I use hangouts messages over sms most of the time. Plus in getting use to it for once they incorporate Google voice since I have been using that for a few years already.

In using it.. Seems fine to me

A little laggy when opening but it's fine. I like it.
Duh lol
ya
gosms for me always
I'm considering using AOSP MMS application. I do not use hangouts for anything. Although I have no issues replying to SMS, I find composing a new SMS cumbersome
Hangouts sucks to me... Not sure why they removed the stock messaging app and also why they removed the stock browser as well. I've been using Textra for SMS. It's lightweight with a bit more customization options than 8sms or the CM app.
I tried using Hangouts texting for about a week and then switched to ChompSMS which I had been using prior to getting the Nexus 5. The one thing I missed when I ditched my iPhone and got a Galaxy Nexus a few years ago was the jailbreak texting app called BiteSMS. ChompSMS is basically BiteSMS for Android, created by the same developer. Have tried other texting apps but have not found anything that is better for me.
Ditched it. I don't like having SMS and Chat in the same screen. I think that hangouts needs to implement tabs. Hangouts | SMS at the top... this would make managing SMS a bit easier. I went back to Handcent SMS.
ditched it from day one as well haha. using textra
I'm having no issues with hangouts, but then again, before hangouts, I only used the stock messaging app.

I ditched it. I have a lot of hangouts going for ingress and I was missing text messages in the jumble.

SMS apps and N5/Android

I love my N5 and will never go back to the land of Apple, there I said that and feel better.
Now, with that said, I do have 1 bug that has been bothering me for awhile. The one app that I miss from my years with iPhones is the bitesms app. It was nothing fancy really, just; notified you when a message comes in, lights up the screen, shows the message and allows you to respond. I've been using ledblinker (don't have THAT iPhone now do you) and 8sms + stock message. Now this works pretty good, but its not always stable.
So, what is the technical reason that this is such an issue? I tried most of the other sms apps in the store and nothing worked well for me. It surprises me that no one has created an app that mimics bitesms for android. Does android not allow this type of notification to be controlled programmatically?
I've tried handcent, chomp and go sms. I'm willing to try any suggestions, but I'm really curious as to why this is an issue.
Have you looked at textra? I use it on my note 2. Made by the people that made chomp and bite

Dang, I did try that, forgot to add it to my list. Thanks for the response.
I really would like an explanation as to why there is an issue with SMS apps? I searched and really just saw some info about the way the interfaces are exposed, but nothing really explaining the reasons. I did not want to create another try the top 5 SMS apps, I think I tried em and I'm pretty OK with 8sms but would like an app just a little more like bitesms, but kudos to the dev for 8sms for sure!!
textra all the way, the dark mode does it all pretty much, I've had some issues with the MMS option to wake up data mobile everytime you want to send a pic, but it seems fixed now, I've tried handcent as well but this one is so much better.
Have you tried sliding messaging? I haven't and use hangouts, but I've read a good bit about it and it seems pretty cool
