Freezing bloatware with Titamium backup - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to pare my phone down to the bare minimum right from the outset. Looking at some of the system apps, I know right away that I don't need Google Korean keyboard, Google Hindi input, Google Play Books, Email, Exchange Services, etc.
I'm pretty sure that freezing these is safe, but there's other things I don't recognise such as Google Pinyin.
Can we get a list going of stuff that it's safe to freeze/uninstall?

Google pinyin is the keyboard for typing Chinese, you probably won't need it

[Q] Deactivate Google apps

Is there any negative aspects in terms of functionality if you deactivate apps like Hangouts, Movies, Wallet etc?
Does this affect the battery in any negative way? Does this create any weird wakelocks?
What are the pros in deactivating certain pre-installed apps and do they make a significant difference?

Do not deactivate Fused Location and Google App.
No, I was more thinking of Google apps such as Movies, Books, Hangouts etc.

I disable these apps:
Email
Exchange Service
Fit
Google Play Books
Google Play Games
Google Play Movis & TV
Google Music
Google Play Newsstand
News & Weather
Sheets
Slides
Wallet
I haven't noticed any negative functionality.

Actually, if you are rooted, you can delete those apps without any side effects. As I allready mention: Do not delete Fused Location (phone won't boot anymore if you delete it), Google Play Services, Google app (if you use GNL, otherwise you can, Google+ (it will break integrated Photo app, if you do), Google Calendar (no substitute app can sync with Google, if you delete it).
Without any consequnce (of course if you don't need them) you can delete: BasicDreams, Calculator, Chrome, CloudPrint, Drive, FaceLock, Gmail, Google Play, GoogleCamera, Keep, LatinImeGoogle, Maps, NewsWeather, Street, Fit, Magazines, Music, PlayGames, Movies, YouTube, Earth, Hangouts, Books, SoundSearch, Wallet, Sheets, Slides, can't remember name of Word viewer, SimTool and some other services, but for now it's better for you to don't know which ones.
Yeah. Also Google gave as some bloatware.
Yeah, I'm not rooted, never thought it was needed on the Nexus since stock is flying anyway and I don't use apps that require root and I don't flash custom roms. That was something I did and still do on my old SGS, so on that I used to delete everything that I didn't need.
But I wasn't sure how it works on a non-rooted phone, maybe deactivating a certain app, breaks something else.
Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Read and understand my post above: deleting or disabling - same effect on performance.
I did understand.
Google play services is vital to the phone. Nothing will work with out it. I've taken films books etc out
When you say you get rid of various unneeded Google Apps do you guys mean uninstall them or use titanium backup to freeze them?
(I'm rooted)
In my case (not rooted), just deactivating them in the app manager, but I guess the question is open to other ways as well.

I took all those out. No problems. Don't touch webview or other system related products

[Completed] after Cyanogen install, what Google options exist?

Hi,
I am looking at installing Cyanogen on my Moto G XT1039. One of the reasons why is to reclaim resources used by unwanted Google apps, another is to get away from Google synchronising everything.
As I understand it, the Cyanogen ROM is essentially just the OS? I have seen reference to Gapps, which seems to add Google apps. Is it possible to pick & choose which Google apps to install? I want Maps & Play but not Newsstand, Music etc.
How can I find out what Google apps/services are essential (if any), or which ones are essential for things like Maps, speech recognition etc? For example, I have Calendar+, which I think just runs on Google Calendar, (although I didn't want this, I wanted a stand-alone calendar with no connection to Google's insidious synchronising etc)

Hi and welcome to XDA!
The rom comes with no gapps, not even google play services. If you install the pico gapps from opengapps.org you'll only get these:
Google system base, Google Play Store, Google Calendar Sync, and the following Play Store applications:
Google Package Installer (replaces stock/AOSP Package Installer)
Google Play services
Google Text-to-Speech
These are the only essential apps you need and you'll have to download everything else.

Should I install All 26 Pending App Updates on my New Shield?

This seems like a pitifully ignorant question to ask, but I would like to ask advice about taking app updates.
I had to RMA one Shield tablet, on which I had immediately updated every app and installed the Marshmallow OTA.
With the replacement I just received, I am not in a hurry to enjoy my new device and looked at the apps pending update. 23 of the 26 have a significant percentage of negative reviews on the latest versions. I assume many will have added permissions, and most will take up more space due to feature changes, so I would appreciate any input regarding what I should update.
The apps pending update I have used in the past include - Chrome Browser, Clock, Gmail, Google, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Keyboard, Maps, YouTube
I'm not sure whether I might have a use for these. I haven't used them before - Android System WebView, Cloud Print, Google Play Newsstand, Google Street View, Google Talkback, Google Text-to Speech
I am fairly certain I will never have an interest or need in using - Google Japanese Input, Google Korean Input, Google Play Books, Google Play Movies and TV, Google Play Music, Google Shuyin Input, Google+, Hangouts
If I don't take an update, is there a way to bump this particular update off my update list to avoid future confusion as to what is new?
Thoughts, anyone?

For any of the apps you aren't interested in using, you should be able to "disable" them; this will stop them from running in the background and alerting for updates. To disable an app (only available for apps included in with the OS; otherwise simply uninstall the app); open Settings and tap Apps. Then select the app in question (like Google Play Books) and then tap disable. This should uninstall any previously applied updates (should not be any in your case) and move the app to a disabled state (never to bother you again). Then you should be able to apply updates to the remaining apps that you actually use.

Google Pixel Bloatware List

Hi,
Can someone please tell me which apps are safe to permanently delete from my rooted Google Pixel?
Thanks in advance
If you did a simple search ...
Just root then you can uninstall whatever. Otherwise just hit disable.
I uninstalled apps such as Play apps (music, film, books...), allo, hangouts, music fx (because i use viper as equalizer), daydream if you don't have vr, other keyboard languages, also print services because I don't have a remote printer support, but I think it's better not touch anything else.

Question Privacy based ROM

Which custom ROM can I use for OP9 that's similar to the privacy of GrapheneOS for Pixel? I still want to use Google services but I don't want them to gather my info.
With root you can remove Google Play Services and replace it with microG on any OS/ROM. Not as good as Graphene's Sandboxed Play Services but it works

Not sure if OP mean "GMS APIs" or "Google preinstalled apps". If you only use GMS APIs, you can swap Play Services and Play Store with microG and Aurora Store and use your phone without Google surveillance, while most 3rd-party apps that require GMS will still work.
If you use Google mobile apps, such as the default Calendar, Chrome, Clock, Contacts, Dialer, Docs, Drive, Files, Gmail, Search, Keep, Messages, News, Photos, Play Store, Podcasts, Recorder, Sheets, Slides, Translate (long list lol) then you are TRACKED and there's no way they won't gather your info

If I did that would I still be able to get my purchased apps from Play or do I sacrifice those?

Another question is if using a VPN prevents data from being collected?
