Please google the following topics and read articles on them; unlocking, roms, custom roms, adb, fastboot, android bootloader, oem. You have to understand that when unlocking and installing custom anything, there is always a possibility that something might go wrong. It is a risk that someone must take if they are willing to install a ROM that was not designed by the OEM of a specific device (in your case, Sony Ericsson).

Some Noob Question.......

Hi
I am (very) new to android device and I want to know
1.How do I install firmware and ROM?
2.possible to install ICS on rk2918-based tablet? And how to install it?
3.What is Cyanogenmod?
Your first 2 questions will depend on the device. Different devices have different methods of rooting and installing recoveries and ROMs. Looks for your device in the forums and you should find the information you need. If you device is not yet listed post your device information so you can we can provide the proper information

You'll want to click the big yellow tab at the top of this page: "Device by OS or Manufacturer." Drill down to find your device. As kwkbnk said, the root and the ROM will depend on that device specifically. Once you get to the Developer's forum for your device, you'll discover whether anyone's found a way to put ICS on it.

[Q] New Android Noob

Hey guys,
I just purchased a used Asus Transformer off of Ebay and it has arrived yesterday. I'm pretty much an Android noob but to my understanding the Asus has already been Rooted. From the description given on Ebay the device seems to have a Rom called Android Revolution HD (or something) What I want to know is how can I tell if my device has this Rom installed since it looks exactly like the Asus stock firmware? (Just in case this version is outdated or I want to change to a new Rom) I also see that this device also has a custom kernel ([email protected]) My question is, is it possible to return to the stock kernel of Honeycomb? Or is there any recommended kernels out there? Is it possible to flash a new kernel without affecting the Rom or Root? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for helping a noob out!
Did you buy it from someone else?
Wolfbreaks ROM with DoomLord Kernel = Awesome =)
Yeah I purchased off of someone else on Ebay. I did ask him to unroot and restore to factory settings which i thought he did since I'm not too familiar with Android. However after some reading last night I found out that the device was still rooted since it had the app Superuser. That's why i want to know how can i tell if the device is still running the Android Revolution HD Rom or not. Since I don't know if he removed it or not.
You can identify it at about phone or phones detail.. Theres a build number that state your rom
Wolfbreaks ROM with DoomLord Kernel = Awesome =)
Oh so the build number will indicate if it's a custom Rom or not?
Depends.. Usually itstated what rom you use..

Hello everyone, I'm not sure about which section to post this but, I have read the threads about rooting and going down the ''proper channel'' to root, SE says, if my Bootloader unlock allowed says 'NO', rooting can't be done. I just bought an Xperia Play800i and it says NO.
Is there any way to root it? Also, what is recommended first in your opinion > 1.(Unlock,Root,Flash) or 2.(Unlock,Flash,Root) or 3.(Root,Unlock,Flash).
Many thanks in advance.

sorry but in Samsung galaxy plus (i9001) where i can look to see that effectively is my custom rom installed?
Try going into settings and looking at device info. It may have what rom it is running in there. If not, I am not sure where else you could find that out.

[Q] Best ROM for Miro (rooted and bootloader unlocked) - is it even possible?

Not so long ago I was total noob for Android, few posts later and nothing has changed :victory: JK off course, the truth is that I learned some basic stuff (rooting, unlocking bootloader, difference between SU and regular user, customization and CWM etc.) and all that thanks to you guys - god bless YouTube, inetrnet and XDA developers! :highfive:
Now the probing questions:
1. Is it possible to flash custom ROM's to Miro with bootloader locked (currently stock)?
2. Which one would suit me best (gaming and/or performance is a MUST!)?
3. What to install mod other then CWM (cuzz it's not supported by phone)?
Thx guys, I'll make sure to thank each and every one of y'all!
1. Yes u can always use stock based roms without unlocking.
2. My personal opinion is that The ultrabeast rom has great gaming performance. Im using it currently.
3. Didn't get your question.

In order to flash the ROM onto device I need some Mod and ClokWork Mod is not supported by Miro (for fastboot etc.) so which one should I choose?
Is there any way u could send me a download link and instructions for that ROM?
So many question marks....
Who told you that cwm does not work for miro? It works very well.
There is a separate thread for that.did you try to search? Just go to the android development section. There you will find both cwm and twrp. Install whatever you want. I prefer cwm.
And you will also find the rom alongwith instructions there only.

Do not post questions which indicates "Which is the BEST ROM" or such issues. It's strictly against the XDA Rules.
The point of the forum is try out different ROMs available in the development section. So browse around and try and see it yourself.

It doesn't seem very stable. Not something I want to risk n my daily driver or am I paranoid?
No, this rom is in development that's wahy it seems not really stable.
The best you can do it's to go to both of Z1 Android Development and Z1 Original Android Development, read and choose one of these roms.
I cannot tell you if this rom is best than the other, because you must read, and read before to select and try a rom
Don't forget you need to read with attention my second link which is really important for rooting your device etc... and don't ne afraid, it's easy :good:

Also, what's the difference between the rooting and cyanogenmod. I have seen rooting before but never really seemed good, I've seen cyanogenmod before but now I'm confused between the two
You need to be root if you want to flash a custom rom like cyanogen rom.
If you, want to know more about cyanogen go here => http://www.cyanogenmod.org

Sony Xperia E5 (F3311)

Hello, I want to put Custom ROM in Xperia E5, F3311 model, but I can not find ROM & TWRP for this model. The bootloader if I have unlock option, but if there is no recovery, do not unlock device. Anyone know any options for this? Thank you very much.
There is no custom Recovery nor custom Rom for this device. There even is no method to Root it.
Thank you very much for your reply. There is nobody who can do something like this ?.
@Juako
Probably nobody with knowledge and this device.
From one hand it shouldn't be hard to port Recovery, as there are scripts to port Kernels/Roms/Recoveries for MTK devices (not sure if for every SoC), as well universal ones, however Sony is not like all Chinese companies which use universal devices (same inside, different outside), so there can be so many changes that it won't work and than knowledge/experience is mandatory.
What inconvenience, I buy it for my wife, but I spend enough battery. That's why I wanted to do recovery & root, at least, so I can uninstall or freeze Sony applications. Better a proper Rom, of course. But it is inconvenient to know that this is so. Thank you very much and good weekend.
Bootloader Unlocked and Rooted
This can be done as i have done it
Try these hope it helps

Actually, rooting is pretty easy.
What you need to do is port a TWRP recovery from a similar chipset, then you would have to figure out the FSTAB files because you would get mounting errors.
or
Build TWRP from device tree with E5's stock kernel
I have same F3311 and thanks to this one:

There is custom rom and twrp for Xperia E5.
Hello,
I've been there several times, but I've just registered. Sorry, my english is not so good ...
I got an xperia E5 F3311 and search for a custom Rome. Unfortunately, I find here some Rom,s only for E (series?) And here I read then there is none for the E5? Is this correct, or do the custom Roms for the E (serie) also work with the E5? I am a bit confused...
I'm looking forward to an answer,
paulhu
@paulhu
There is no customs for E5. And the ones for other devices, like other Es, not only won't work, but will brick Your device.
Hy,
thank you for the very fast answer!
This is very unfortunate. So also the post (here) from " TAIMOON" is wrong,...?
So but it is possible to root and install custom recovery safely? Or is this also a "fake message"? Im a little afraid because of your warning.
Not sure what he meant by custom rom, but think it was not a rom, but kernel, coz that thread has modded kernel and TWRP used for Root. And that is true, there is no custom rom for E5, but at least it can be rooted.
Ok, thank you!
So i think i will follow the tutorials of those links and root the device. Maybe after i find a way to waste the sony apps....
Root availeble
Just search Sony Xperia E5 (or f3311) bootloader and you'll see a Sony developer site! There is a list of all phone models and guides!
