Launchers + Lockscreen changes to your needs - General Topics

We would love to have apps that we want to be present at the right time for easy use and we dont want to scroll through our app drawer to find it.
These launchers and lockscreen will understand you and provide you with the apps you want at the right time without you telling them.
COVER: [coverscreen.com] this is a lockscreen that will give you the apps that you want directly in the lockscreen at the right time. It has an awesome feature called "Peek" that will let you to peek into your app as if it is already opened under the lockscreen.
AVIATE: [getaviate.com] this is a home launcer that will change its homescreen for presenting you the things that you want at the right time.
EVERYTHING.ME: [everything.me] it is a launcher which will change dynamically based on the things that you want. the coolest thing is it even changes the wallpaper based on the thing that you have asked for it.

Vertical scrolling on homescreens?

I was playing around with the HTC bookmark widget earlier, and noticed widgets can be dragged up and down. Are there any widgets available that act as a blank overlay for the homescreen, which can also scroll vertically to view more widgets and shortcuts? This can be helpful to access more on each homescreen and provided no one else knows about the vertical scroll, hiding a few "work documents" .

how long have you had your phone again?
just about everyone knows about scrollable widgets.
and no you cant make a homescreen vertically scrollable.
1. You are being a ****.
2. He didn't ask about scrollable widgets.
3. Yes its possible it would just require some heavy knowledge and coding.
I wasn't announcing that widgets could scroll, I was providing an example. Nor did I ask if it was possible to make the homescreen scroll. What I'm asking IS possible. I was only asking if it already exists.

I haven't seen anything like that and I understand what you are asking. You would need to go to the android app dev section to see if someone will take A TON of time to make a full screen vertical scrolling widget that you can place other widgets in.
Would it be impossible to look at bookmark widget's code as a basis? As for integrating shortcuts into a widget, I could probably try and contact the dev of Multi icon. That should take care of the major concerns, right?
I dont know if you could make a widget that lets you host other widgets or shortcuts. but there are 2 options that may work for you
one is the folder system, you can make folders to keep your app shortcuts in, but they will not allow you to nest widgets inside of them.
another option is to use a secondary launcher like launcher pro or ADW launcher, and when you want to access the shortcuts or widgets that are in that launcher you can open it up. then you can set one of the launchers to be the default when you hit the home button, or have it ask you each time you hit it.
just my 2 cents, but don't give up on the widget inside a widget idea, im sure a bunch of people would like to have that ability

The program/shortcut integrated in a widget is performed perfectly on the Multi icon widget. Pre-existing widgets in the widget haven't been included, but the dev has begun creating specialty widgets. I do recommend checking it out.

I've tried QuickDesk, which keeps your current launcher, but enables a popup homescreen when you double tap the home button. It's not the smoothest process by any means, and somehow makes HTC Sense pop up in your home button long press. If you know of any better attempts at this, I'd like to see how those work as opposed to this one. It may be simpler than eventually having to create a new one, right?
Actually, being able to pull up or down on the home screen to activate something like quickdesk would be pretty cool. QD kinda sucks having to double tap on it, and the response is laggy because the button is getting confused as to what it's supposed to do.
as far as I know, the only Launcher that provides vertical scrolling functionality is HTCSense. It also provides the EditText widget as a RemoteView.
**in Android world, a "widget" is any GUI object, really. While the widgets we talk about adding to a Home screen is really called an "AppWidget"**
Its all about how the Launcher handles and behaves with RemoteViews.
For a Launcher to allow one of its AppWidgets to contain and run another AppWidget, that Launcher would have to provide a huge heap of new RemoteViews and surrounding functionality...or, the AppWidget container would have to somehow import the child AppWidget App and run it internally (not possible I think!).
There's a chance that MIUI (a new Chinese Launcher) provides AppWidget-within-Folder functionality. It may then expose custom RemoteViews and API interfaces to allow AppWidgets to be developed to do similar things

[REQ} Standalone Appdrawer w/ Customizable Icons

I have been looking for a standalone app that looks functions like the stock app drawer, but with customizable icons+shortcuts that I can link to from the homescreen; this would be similar to App Organizer or Folder Launcher, which you can do the same thing with, but then apps are displayed in list view. I would just like a snapping "icon view" vertical app drawer.
The goal is to be able to use a quick, lightweight launcher such as Zeam, and be able to change the icons and link to this app instead of the stock one. I feel this would be a solution for many others who don't need or want a full featured homescreen and just want to be able to get a custom look.
This would also save an enormous ammount of time for those (like me) who have attempted to Meta/Ninja-morph or resign market apps and spent a rediculous ammount of time trying to change that one giant orange square icon that throws off the otherwise clean custom look of your drawer.
I love ADW Ex, but it can get really bogged down with multiple widgets. LauncherPro can hide apps from the drawer and have homescreen shortcuts, but that is a pain as well. Other possible featurs could be horizontal/vertical/4d/etc. and custom arrangement, keeping in mind that the main goal is to keep it from eating up resources. Anybody?
(maybe this thread should be moved, thnx)
I know Im not the only one

Doesn't allow custom icons

Android theme customization question...

I just want to know how to get example1 instead of examplecurrent (attached).
I am ultra new to this modding stuff and have no idea what to even call this bar. But I am wanting to the the transparent 5 icon thing w/ phone messages ect at the bottom instead of the little standout-ish 3 icon one... help plz =P
All you'll have to do is install LauncherPro from the market. It is a launcher replacement app and is extremely popular. You'll be able to choose what apps/icons to put in the dock(that's what the bar is called ) along with all sorts of other customizations. There are other launcher replacement apps like ADW, GO launcher, Zeam, etc. Each have their own advantages and you'll just have to see what works best for you and your phone.
Then what?!
Ok I have downloaded LauncherPro , I believe cm7 already came with ADW or w/e so how do I change over and try the new one out and mess with settings and all that?
When you go to the homescreen you should get a popup asking you which launcher to use. If not, there's an app called home switcher or something like that. The settings can be found by pressing the menu button then selecting preferences. To change which apps and icons are in the dock, just long press on the one you want to change and you'll get a popup menu.

Go Locker default lockscreen!?!

Hello, I tried posting this in the question section but I for some reason had insufficient access.
I've just installed Cyanogenmod 11 (Nightly Build) from my carbon ROM and I've installed Go Launcher Ex. Unfortunately, It requires a million other apps and it's making me want to throw my phone at the wall.
I am using the default lockscreen that the GoLocker comes with as I find all the other ones on the store absolutely awful looking and terribly made however, on the default launcher you swipe right and it brings up a page where you can change the settings of the theme, wallpaper, security, weather, settings and a clean option. Then underneath that part there is a load of app icons there and I have no way of changing which apps are there at all!! Sometimes I unlock my screen and there are 3 apps there, then when I go back to it afterwards, it's completely filled up!?!? They're really frustrating me!! If you take a look at the attachment I have, it's just a picture of what I'm talking about as I'm unable to post links or images.
The other thing that Is really bothering me is the icons such as the Themes, wallpaper, security, weather, settings and clean. They all serve not really much purpose apart from the weather one which I installed ANOTHER Go Launcher app and bought it which is a weather app and when I tap the weather icon, It just takes me to the stupid settings page for the weather options?!?!?
SO FRUSTRATING!! Any help would be saving me SO MUCH!

[Q] Missing features?

I couldnt find the next options:
- Spotify Lockscreen background (album picture)
- Lockscreen Background - Live Weather - should have option for set up the downloadable number of pictures per day
- Unlocked/Not mobile carried ROM has no automatic ABC list in menu and you have only manual "edit" option
...or "user error"?
With the ABC menu, I assume you mean the app menu in the touchwizz launcher? If so, the only way I've found so far is to root your phone and then modify a CSC file. The easiest way for that is to download the CSC modifier app my wanam from Play store (after rooting) and search for "alphabet", find the appropriate setting, and set it to "TRUE", and reboot. But like I said, it involves rooting, and all the associated risks of doing so.
For the others you mention, I have no advice I'm afraid.
Thanks for the advice!
Yes, I mean app menu in the TW launcher. But its not such an important setting to modify and root my phone. Anyway, I would appreciate a future update from Samsung.
I liked the fullscreen album art on the lockscreen when I had kitkat on the S4, when it went to lollipop it stopped doing it. I don't know if it's possible to enable it again or if it's a lollipop screw up.
I'm sure if we made enough of a fuss about it, they'll put some of these features back :3 there's no logical reason I can think of to remove a simple "Sort" button.
If you aren't too bothered about TW only widgets (like the weather clock), you could always use another home launcher app. Google Launcher and Nova are both quite good. Google Launcher is nice and simple, and Nova is customisable to the extreme.
I'm currently in the process of organising my folders and home screen layout of Nova should have installed that first, as I now have loads of apps to organise u.u damn....
