[Q] help with my battery performance?

Can anyone look at these screenshots and advise me on how I can get better performance from my battery? I just flashed SkyICS (latest version) hoping to get better performance from my battery, but it doesn't seem to help. This is with what I would consider medium to heavy usage. I used my phone most of the day to browse the web and check facebook.
Any ideas?
Yeah a bigger battery and some fairy dust
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
That's with an extended battery....
Bro heavy users like you and me can only get by by keeping a charger on hand undervolting underclocking
Edit: but 4.0 rom's don't have custom kernels yet
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Looks like the screen has been on for at least 4 hours. All you can really do is underclock it and freeze all the stuff you don't use.
Guess I will research how to underclock.... any good starting points?
You can't if your on ics

I prefer no frills cpu. It will report the wrong settings when the toast pops up, but if you check cpu spy you will see it's working
Here's a couple basic and obvious tips and you might already know this, but no one has mentioned it yet in this thread so...
Turn wifi off when there are no wifi networks to join, but I've heard not to let it sleep when you are wifi connected.
Leave bluetooth and gps off when not using it. I don't let allow any of google's location services to run in the background myself. Not sure how well that helps the battery though.
Some people say leaving off autobrightness turned off will help battery life and some say leaving it turned on is better for battery performance. I'm not sure who is right but you might try it both ways and see if one is better for you.
I've tried most of those things and they don't seem to help.
I'm in an area with lte but coverage is spotty at work. Could that be what is mainly killing the battery?

This is impressive battery life, if I may ask, what ROM are you using?
88% after 41 minutes of checking facebook and Google Reader? Is that normal? On wifi I should add...

There is no normal, everyone has different setups, different apps, and different lifestyles. If you're saying the screen has been on for 41 minutes, that seems ok.
Thanks for the help everyone. I guess I'll just keep chargers handy

So what kind of battery life should I expect out of this beast.......

I was wondering what is the average battery life of a Samsung Galaxy S3 today I got around 9 hours with very light use. What is the rest of ya getting? Fyi I'm using Synergy Rom..

If your light use is actually light then that would sound rather low. What type on screen time do you have? That would really help.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I usually get 30-35 hours with about 5 or 6 hours screen on time.
I turn off vibrations, use power save, when I'm at home I turn off data and use wifi only, I have manual sync set up, have s-voice wake up command turned off.

running AOKP build 5
today i got...
15 hrs 30 mins
screen on - 4 hr 5 mins
still got 8% batt left.
from what i understand you will do better on a stock ROM vs an AOSP rom. I dont remember being on stock or synergy so I cant really compare firsthand.

If you just got your phone do a couple cycles on the battery and it will get much better. You also need to wait for the Rom to stabilise and once it gets stable your battery life will increase

[Q] Tips for Skyrocket in Non-LTE Area

So does anybody use their Skyrocket full-time in a non-LTE area?? I'm back home now for the holidays and don't have LTE here, and my battery literally went from 97% to 37% in 2.5 hrs with 49 mins of screen on and 59 mins of awake time. Meaning no significant wakelocks. Just the radio trying to find LTE. Is the battery always that terrible for you guys in non-LTE? I get a consistent ~18 hrs with 3 hrs screen on time while on LTE 24/7.
What do you guys do?? I tried flashing the Rogers radio and switching the Network Mode, but it does the same thing as on an AT&T radio - switches right back to LTE. I tried selecting the Network Operator but I never get any choices to even select AT&T like others report. *#2263# doesn't work on CM. I tried switching the mode in *#*#4636#*#* but it switched right back to LTE. What gives? (I'm on CM10.)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
For a while I was in a non lte area. I had better battery life then than I do now in an lte area. I don't do anything different. I use uclf6 radio, which gets the best signal for me.

Man that's interesting. Every time I come home to PA from Atlanta, my battery just tanks. I can't even make it through half a day. And the only difference is going from constant LTE to no LTE at all. No change in my daily routine. And I've been using UCLF6 since it came out. Now I'm on the Rogers RUXLF3 because I wanted to try switching network modes, which didn't work. I don't know why it works for everyone else.

Sometimes when you move far distances they might have to reset something with the network. When I moved from pa to Florida they did some kind of network reset or something to my old iPhone. Not sure if they still do that or not. Now I travel from Texas to Louisiana and Mississippi a lot and I don't experience any battery tank. And I don't have lte in Louisiana or Mississippi. I get better battery life there then in Houston on lte.
Are you carrier unlocked? Even if you are I don't think cm10 based roms are able to switch network mode. That's if I remember correctly, which I could be wrong since I don't use that feature.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Ohhhh I didn't realize that about CM and the network mode - thanks! I think I'm gonna try out the leak or Jedi and see how things go with that. I'm not carrier unlocked - just straight up AT&T.
That's interesting about the reset for location. I never heard of that. But I bought the phone here in PA, with a PA number. I've just been down in Atlanta for grad school. We're really close with our AT&T sales rep though so I could probably ask her.

Yeah ask the rep, he probably knows more about how the network works. What's weird is, I've not had a battery drain when going to non lte areas and spending weeks there. It actually saves my battery. Here in Houston I hit 40mbps/s and it probably burns through battery 15% faster than non lte areas. I have strong signal in both areas. Usually -75 to -85dBm. So it's not a signal fluctuation issue. Do you have weak hspa signal in pa?

Looks like I'm going from about -90 to -105 dBm. So I guess that's not too great. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what I get in Atlanta.

Yea that could definitely be it. Didn't think about that. But man that just seems like a huge hit in battery life - from 18 hrs down to 4 hrs. And I never had that problem with my Captivate, or my dad's Infuse. That's why the only major variable I could think of was the LTE.

I'm on aokp and what I have to do is search for networks manually and select AT&T. Once you do that, you can force the 2g only option. Or *#*#4636#*#* and select the network mode you want. I'm on Rogers radio on AT&T and my phone isn't unlocked.
It can take like 2 minutes to search when you first do it manually.

As I stated in the OP I tried both of those things and neither worked. I'm on Rogers radio on AT&T and not unlocked. I tried searching for Network Operator but all it does is flash a popup saying Searching and immediately disappears. I've clicked it a million times. Sometimes it takes slightly longer, but still never gives any results.
And then *#*#4636#*#* just switches the mode back immediately after I change it.

That's strange, I've only used my phone on at&t. Never unlocked it. It works fine for me.

3G battery "drain"

So basically I'm trying to understand why 3G reduced drastically my battery life. I'm not saying that I'm using it "actively", but I really need it idling.
Sometimes I have poor signal, and sure, it drains a lot of my battery... But while I have good reception battery drains fast too. I'm rooted and using stock Jelly Bean. My network have no support to fast dormancy (I'm assuming it's true because Better Battery Stats used to show a lot of time spent on FDCompleteTime wakelock before disabling it), so I disabled it. After about 7 hours mostly with 3g turned on I have 52% of my battery. A hour and a half of screen time. I do understand 3G drains my battery while I'm using it, or while I use the phone. That's ok, I accept it. But while idling is really something I want to know why...
Anyone else is facing the same?

Try flashing the .17 or .15 radio. It seems to help LTE performance.
so whats wrong with your data speed, its better than many other people get?

the signal varies depending on your personal location. it can vary a few steps from one spot to another, time of day, and depending on how busy your local network is. theres nothing that with help you with your signal. from the looks of it, your data signal is good.
