The 4.4 google search not opening in a browser.... - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So as the google search now doesn't open in browser, you can't open search results in a new tab, you have to actually click them and leave the search results, only able to go back to it by going back. Same for images. I find this a bizarre change. Why can't we open search results in our browser from the search bar?

It's been like that for a while as I recall...it does that in Jelly Bean too.

Yeah, I didn't have jelly bean so wasn't aware. No work around?

Dolphin and 2.2 - Auto-closes?

Is it just me or do Dolphin and Dolphin HD both auto-close immediately when trying to do something?
Anyone have an older version that works?
Yep, its not compatible. Give it some time, the dev's will fix it soon I'm sure.
Damn, I'm coming from Desire and I loved the browser on there.
I can not STAND having the status bar visible while browsing websites.
Is there a way to hide it?

Universal Search on N8013

Thanks to Apple, Samsung devices have lost their universal search [searching google, local apps, local contacts, etc.]
I tried this solution on my GS3 and on my N8013 and it brought back the functionality.
I take no credit, all credit goes to XDA's eyecon82.
I'm just letting you US-WIFI-only owners know that it works.
It's very useful for me.
As eyecon82 said himself in this POST:
1) Download the apk at the beginning of this thread, place it on your SDcard (or phone) where you'll find it easily.
2) Install root explorer (or equivalent, I used root explorer though)
3) Go to /system/app and mount as R/W
4) move GoogleQuickSearch.apk somewhere else, just so you have it if you need to restore it
5) Go to where you placed the full-featured apk, copy/move it to /system/app
6) Long-Click on GoogleQuickSearch.apk, select permissions, and set to rw-r--r-- (ie, row 1: yes yes no, row 2: yes no no, row 3: yes no no)
7) Hit okay, mount R/O, and quit
8) Go to Settings > Application Manager > All
9) Select Google Search, and clear data/cache
10) Select Google Services Framework, clear data/cache
11) Reboot
12) ???
13) Profit!!!

Although this will probably get moved to apps and themes section. I dunno.
yea, i guess. i usually don't post.
I wouldn't know in what section to post this.
This just gave me a reason to root. Thanks man!
Moved To Themes & Apps
As Nefariouss pointed out, this should be in the themes & apps section.

Universal Search via Google Search on you desktop. There's no icon. It's Google Search, but universal.

LOL...that is what I'm trying to do; however, I wasn't sure what the google search looked like. That's why I was inquiring if it looks like a blue square with a g on it in the app drawer. I'm pretty sure it is, now; however, it's the widget I think you're referring to. Thnx for the assist.

Sound Search still only for nexus7?

I thought Google's sound search widget was part of jelly bean?
Its not in my widgets tray, not listed in apps list, can't find it on Google play
Besides side loading a user-hacked version, is there an official way to get it on tf700?

Google sound search is only for JellyBean in UK, but you can download the widget (it's a widget, not an app) and it will works fine on Jelly bean.
So much for the 'world' wide web. Thanks geoIP
I have Sound Search on my Sprint Galaxy S II running CNA JB. I also had it with CM10 and AOKP.

It is just an apk file, you can install on any Android devices. I have it running on my Sensation right now.

Reuse Stock Phone Icon

I am using a dialer app on my phone, but I really prefer the stock JB phone icon.
Is here any way for me to use this icon but associate it with a different dialer app?
Thanks.

Thanks. I actually have been searching around and saw all the sites you recommend. But thats not exactly what Im trying to achieve.
Im trying to find the stock phone icon and then assign it elsewhere.
I havent figured out how to identify that icon file on my android so that I can then switch it over to another app...

You can't. Google Search is sort of the launcher itself, notice that you can't disable it. The "Launcher" is just an addon for Google Search and required it to work.

Okay, I just wasn't sure I had understood that correctly when I read it earlier today. I'll see if i can live with it or I'll go back to Nova. Thanks!
I suggest just use a custom launcher, you can always access Google Now by swiping up from the Home button.
