Hi all,
Im facing a weird decision... well not weird as almost 50-50 split and it makes me feel queasy .
Should i opt for the Galaxy S (Android) or the HTC HD 2?
The Galaxy S has 1 GHz processor 512 Ram Full HD video recording and a SEXY screen... damn it looked nice in the demo . However (and this does drive me crazy) there is no LED flash. I dont know WHY there isnt but there isnt. God, I hate it when manufacturers do that. They leave out one fiddly feature for no reason whatsoever.
Anyhoo the HTC HD 2 HAS a flash it has WinMo upgradeable to WinMo 7. Snapdragon (I love that name) processor but the Galaxy S out performs it easily in terms of graphics. Should I take the leap into Android (I really really want to see how well it works especially since its got such an amazing developer community) or stick with WinMo and the HTC HD2? I know i havent mentioned many pros of the HD2 but thats because it shares most of them with the Galaxy. To be honest the only pro is that its an interface im familiar with. However, would all of you people who have taken the step from winMo to android tell me whether it was worth it or not?
Thanks

Because WM is a more mature and solid OS with thousand of customizations and free apps, android is immature and young and is not business oriented, also google will be in control of all your data...
All above of course is just my personal opinion
What do you mean google has access to all your data? :S really? they can see my messages and such information? I find that very surprising.
Read Is google stealing things off my phone? thread and make your own conclusions...

In terms of modern UI, stability and handling Android is way more mature then anything WM can offer. Unless you have some mission critical software which only runs on WM there is no sane reason to keep using it. Besides HD2 wont have any official ports for WP7. Android offers a stable, consistent user interface with plenty of customization options out of the box and tons of free available software. Hardly anybody bothers to produce new software for WM, meanwhile the Android eco system is brimming with life. I switched from a X1 which I tried with various custom roms to a Desire and it's just no comparison. If you're not hardcore attached to WM, I'm certain Android is the way better choice.
Google will only have your data, if you're using their mail/messenger/etc. services. You're free to use different ones.

Google has removed once test-apps and I'm certain that isn't what happend in the linked case. If it happens you can be sure to read in the tech news about it and not by somebody with a new account and no posts. That thread doesn't either talk about google accessing and somehow retrieving data from user phones.
Perhaps that link as you mention does not give nothing solid to the question, however, as I clearly mentioned it´s my personal opinion only...

Maybe you'll attract it hard to believe but we are talking about Google. Google for a long time to know a user's search application, Google Maps, where they can see photographs and videos that she has performed. Street View by specially equipped vehicles that feature the world's major cities is not registered as permanent move.
Grounds that they violate the privacy of private life, many times before Street View cars into trouble in some cities people were exposed to even the stony response rod.

I fail to see the point of a bunch of random links, which claim that google has done something wrong and none is related to Android? Do you really think MS isn't collecting massive mounts of data with their internet services as well? In contrast to many other companies google actually has the balls to go out and say that something went wrong, not trying to deny it until there is no other way.
I must say i dont really find those so convincing. So long as they arent collecting PERSONAL information (my contacts, messages etc) and its anonymous and im not getting charged for it why should it bother me? Its just usage information.
Tbh I dont find many things convincing, especially the article about the Traffic hijacking. That has to be the most ridiculous claim ive ever seen. The google bot is very advanced and it can pick out useful information like phone numbers etc. How he can make a claim that showing this information is traffic hijacking done intentionally is ridiculous. I mean doesnt it occur to the author that Google is a SEARCH engine.. part of SEARCHING means getting to the information you want. THe best search engine wouldthen presumably be the one that brings you that information as easily and as quickly as possible :S.
However, you said its just your opinion so thanks for the information but as it stands I dont find it a real threat to my decision on HTC HD2 and the Samsung Galaxy S.
I've only read the first few posts so I don't know if this has already been covered. I've been with Windows Mobile since day one and I loved it until I tried Android on the HTC Evo a month ago. BTW' I had (still do) the HD2 which I bought on a T-Mobile 2-year new contract. I flashed the HD2 with Kumars ROMs (the best ROMs for WM right here on xda). I did a lot of tweaking and installed over 130 apps on my HD2 (both paid and free apps). After an hour with the Evo, I was sold on Android and now I just have to get around to putting my HD2 on ebay. BTW' the HD2 will not be updated to Windows Phone 7 if nobody else has mentioned that here.
The HD2 is nice and slim and feels very solid just like the iPhone 4G (I'm currently testing the iPhone 4G as of yesterday, while waiting on the ATT and Verizon Galaxy versions to come out). The HD2 is a good phone and if you flash it with a ROM like Kumar's, things are pretty good on it but don't looking for the best of gaming on it because the newest and best games aren't there. Also a lot of apps won't be as nice as what you can find on the other OS's. Furthermore, a lot of older WM apps are not easy to use on the HD2 because of the lack of stylus support.
The Evo is as close as you can get to having an HD2 running Android so in other words the Evo would almost be like having your HD2 and Galaxy together. My Evo has been good but it had the raised screen issue (as well as a dead pixel and yellow streaks on white backgrounds). I wanted to just get it exchanged but Radio Shack has been all sold out. So I decided to try the iPhone which I had to jump through hoops to get it mailed to me.......
The Galaxy has a nicer screen technology and looks better so I keep reading. But from what I can see of Samsung, I think I like HTC Sense much better than TouchWhiz. Plus the design looks much better than any of the Galaxy designs as far as I'm concerned. Evo or Galaxy = good choices. HD2 = a dead OS that you'll be happy with for a minute and then you'll regret not having a newer OS.
That was my two and half cents plus tax
They just announced the Windows 7 phone lineup and the release is going to be mid November for US................If I do not see Froyo with a GPS fix I might just jump ship. I am pretty aggravated at the way Samsung has handled this GPS thing by ignoring it publicly
Maybe for this one...........Samsung's i8910 HD-based Windows Phone 7

What does your thread title have to do with your post? XDA does not need another complaint thread about the Captivate. If you don't like it you will be able to see the alternatives as they come out. I reported your thread since it has nothing to do with the Captivate, if it stays open I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Thanks, I changed the title to make it more clear.
I am just trying to see if others are thinking of doing the same.
Other than the GPS problem I haven't found anything wrong per-se with the phone. Yes there were a few Samsung-tweaks done that you have to play with to really get the most out of your phone but in comparison to the EVO4G (having tested them personally) which has way more bloatware and kryptic UI changes, I think this is an all around better phone. It's lightweight, has a great screen, Android platform, and it's not going to be experimental like the Windows 7 phone.
Why don't you like the phone? Just because GPS doesn't work? I'm pissed it doesn't work either because I had a crappy G1 with no 3G that I was using unlocked on ATT for a year until ATT finally came out with an "omg wow nice phone" Android phone worth buying.
If they are offering a fix through software that is legitimately going to work then I welcome it. Until then, I'm going to just read maps normally like we did back in the ole days...ha!
ps:
Please don't call it a Cappy, that is an atrocious name.
Y'know.. i've seen too many of these threads. I understand that you're unhappy with the Captivate because of the GPS problem and perhaps it's not the right phone for you. However, I don't think these threads belong on the Captivate forum. The forum is for people who, i think, want to stick with the phone. I, for one, enjoy the Captivate. I love hacking and modding my phone and personally I believe the Android platform is really meant for people that like hacking their phone. If you want to jump ship because of the GPS aspect before waiting for any solution that comes out from Samsung and I'm sure there will be one, that is your decision and I hope you like your new phone.
This thread will serve no other purpose than flame baiting, which is why I am closing it down.
With great pleasure i read today that Notion Ink Adam tablet is available for preorder. i want to ask some questions
1. What operating system it will running? Rumours refer Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is the operating system
2. If the above is true will it support upgrade to Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) when it will be ready?May be is running a custom version of Android or stock one?
3. About 3G does it cover GSM 900,1800 and UMTS 2100?
4. Will google market be available?
The tablet hasn't even passed the FCC. As of now, it doesn't even exist in a form available for consumers. The site also allows you to provide your billing info without providing a shipping address, which should set off a big red scam alert flag in your head.

Thanks for the info my friend.I didnt know that it did not passed FCC.Really now i wonder why they start taking money from people. That's stupid ,not to say more bad words.
I think i must look for alternatives.

I beg to differ with you guys. Its genuine and The pixel Q version of the tabs are already sold out and they showcased this device in CES much before you have had any clues about Galaxy tab or any other for that matter. Between I have visited their office (Bangalore, India) personally 2 days back.
They have launched a developer section too. And if you talk technically then they have managed to solve android app's inability to handle large screens.

Here's the original report, and even though the "billing info without shipping info" has been fixed, it still doesn't change the fact that it hasn't even passed the FCC. I think I'd entrust my money with an actual well-known manufacturer with a product that I can see and touch before I buy.
Why is it that the pessimist is always the first to respond. Whatever. On the FCC issue, I vaguely remember that they did something so that you can't find it but I can't remember where I found that.

Well, when you're dealing with money for a luxury product that has several alternatives it's okay to be pessimistic. Better safe than sorry in a situation like this, no?

Here, have some valuable information:
"We have done something with our FCC application and it will be little difficult for you to find us!"
to answer your questions:
1. It will most likely run on 2.2 at first but "Eden is extremely compatible with 2.3" this implies that they are working on it.
2."This was a big step in converting your Android to a tablet version OS (and one of the updates coming in 3.0)" I'm not sure what this implies, but it might mean we will get 3.0
3.I have no idea, the whole 3g thing is a little confusing
4."Will it support the Google Market place? Or do you have your own market place/App Store that you are developing?
-We will have our own market place."
however, it probably won't take long for the devs to get the market on it.

yeah I totally agree on the fact that it is okay to be pessimistic, but most of what you heard that makes the adam sound shady came from one series of articles on android police. I'm not sure, but I bet that if they tried they could make any company sound shady. Anyway, if Notion ink sounds shady, it's not really their fault, they are extremely inexperienced. It is a company run by 20-something year olds with no business experience straight out of college. They're bound to make some mistakes.
Guy who posted a few days ago that he was going to release Android on touchpad instuctions via youtube faked it. Today he posted a new video ending in "go buy an Ipad". The whole thing was a setup.
Kinda crappy if you asked me.
Here is his channel. I say everyone give him a thumbs down.

OMFG.......I was so excited about this and now...........sigh.......
let's not be so darn absolute
that was one user not indicative of any users on rootzwiki who do have natively running android versions on their touchpad thanks to qualcomm
the title is very misleading
The guy was full of BS from day one. He had no proof unlike the guy who has actual video (3 in fact) showing android running on his TP. A good dev should be able to rip that thing apart and get what we need to build an android os. I'm just glad that tablet ended up in the hands of someone who knew it was special. It could have been given to a 6 year old girl to watch Barbie movies on and parents who would not know the difference. Can you imagine if it fell into the hands of Tosh? FOURRRRRRRR!

Btw, I changed title just for you.
haha i knew that first video was BS
there's no way a dev would go through the effort of making a stupid teaser video without showing off ANY of their work.
Drawing and quartering is too good for that AndroidGuy31 person. He's probably been hacked so many times he's regretting leading folks on though at this point.
This thread title is a bit misleading. Edit?
On day 1 there were no less than 2-3 videos showing android running on the Touchpad. While a few called fake at the top of their lungs (and this android31 guy or whatever seems to be fake as hell) the other video was 100% legit.
Qualcomm Innovations apparently was using blank Touchpads as a work platform for software testing for an upcoming HTC tablet with very similar specs. Meaning they had a nearly fully functional port of android running on it. A number of these have made it out to the market somehow in this firesale, and at least one guy in TX has already posted willing to upload an image of his build.

Your title makes it sound like there is just one video out there making this claim. That's the only reason I took issue with it, because it misleads people slightly. Someone just cross-posted in the thread I just made about the qualcomm port saying offhand that the other two videos I was discussing were faked. I don't think they are, and in any case they're entirely different from the video you're talking about.
AndroidGuy31 made a fake vid. More impressive is that there are now 3 videos of a functional android 2.2.1 port on youtube, one android touchpad listed on ebay, and one guy offering to image his for the community on a dev board. So either 3 people all spontaneously decided to hoax people with the same Android builds and situations, or maybe HP really did let some of the QI tablets out into the wild during this firesale, during which their shipping could barely handle demand. I really don't think the guys at the HP warehouses were paying attention what stack the box came from.
It's your thread though, I won't bring it up again. Just figured I'd ask since it'd be helpful.

Were cool bro. I am as excited about the port as you are. I guess I put too much hope into that guys vid and expected too much. Now I am still skeptical about these guys who have magically received tablets with android already on them. Seems a bit far fetched, but thats just my oppinion.
You also have a valid point about the other vids. Until they are proven fake, I guess we have to go with them. I do not want to spread false rumors or info so I went ahead and changed the title again.
Apparently the videos from that one guy may have been fake but the fact that someone had a touchpad with android on it is not fake. The dump of android 2.2.1 from a touchpad has now been posted on another dev forum. Let the waiting and anticipation continue!
I really don't like Apple at all because of their proprietary and self obsessed tendencies. You can't do much of anything that they don't allow you to do. I have been on an Android platform since it came out years ago. That being said I am now producing music and I have been seriously considering getting an Ipad because they have several top notch synth apps and DAW's like Garage Band. The only thing I can find for Android is things that you hit a button and it makes a sound. You can't record into the program or do much of anything. Am I missing something? I would love to stick with Android, but Apple is beckoning me after all these years.
Obviously I am new to the forums, I was discussing this with a guy who told me to come here and if there was a DAW type app you guys would know about it or at least know what is in the works or why it is not coming out.
As a sidenote I have been following this thread on the android Google support forum about this very issue.
If you look up in the android code developers board at code.google dot com /p/android/issues/detail?id=3434 (won't let me post outside links so I had to separate a bunch of stuff .. just fix it to go to the link. it isn't a nefarious link it is google.

No suggestions yet?
Weather you need to make music entirely on phone or you have a studio and you just need more functionality with android devices, I think these two apps can help you.
I'm pretty sure you must have heard of FL Studio Mobile, I've been using it for a long time now and I can say it is the best DAW for Android. It has all the features that you will need as a producer. If your phone is powerful enough then you can produce any genre, there's a few things missing though, like orchestral instruments (there's a very few of those), also synths are not like top notch but they does the job if you are skilled, also Auto-Tune isn't that good yet.
Or you could also try Cubasis 3, it has a free demo version on play store, known as the Cubasis LE. This one is way better and powerful in terms of features but the only reason I wouldn't say it as the best one is that
1. It's not available for all devices.
2. It's really expensive.
But if that doesn't sound like much of a problem, you can try Cubasis, it has more orchestral instruments, better synths, better visuals.
