mine jiggles about audibly. anyone else?
nope?
Yes, mine does too... It's now annoying me so much that I'm just about to head off to the store that I bought it from; to exchange it for another...
Mine too, also applies to the volume rocker button, although not quite as much. Why can't these things be under more tension?

How did that go? Find a tighter one?

my power button also rattles this is the second thread i have read with people explaining the same rattle
My power button wobbles a little if I wiggle it, but neither it nor the volume rocker make any sounds.
STOP SCARING ME ! I'm from Romania and if my phone comes with defects it's going to be a looong time till it heads back to Italy and get a replacement ( +money spent on shipping it from RO to IT and the other way around )
My power button and my volume rocker do not wobble in any way, they are perfectly tight. Who knows if that will change in the future though?
It was discovered on another forum that the white version has tight buttons with no play. The black ones seem to suffer from a loose power button and a bit less so with the volume button. Does this seem to apply to everyone here?

My black 16gb has a loose power button. It works fine, but if I push it side to side it has noticeable movement. If I shake the phone and put my ear right up to it there is a small rattling noise.
Out of curiosity I checked buttons on my xperia sp and my note 8.0 and noticed other buttons on these devices such as volume button and power button had some movement as well. It doesn't effect the way the nexus looks or the way it works, so it doesn't bother me as long as it's not a defect and as long as it functions for the life of the device.
I emailed google support and got this response:
"Hello Lee,
Thank you for contacting Google about your Nexus 5. We are very glad to hear that you love the device! I am happy to answer your question about the power button.
By design, the power button does have a little 'wiggle' room. If however, you are having any issues with the ability to get the power button to function normally, please let us immediately.
If you have further questions, please reply to this email or feel free to call us at 1-855-836-3987 (855-36-NEXUS).
Thanks,
Sam

My power button seems a lil loose as well but works fine. I checked a few at the tmobile store and theirs were the same way so i think its normal. Have heard the white ones have tight power buttons tho

I have a white nexus 5 and both power and volume are loose. This doesn't effect it at all and I'm not sure whether it was from my case (spigen ultra hybrid) when I take it out to change the back/clean, but I'm worried that if it was just from the case, how strong are the buttons and how long will it last?

Buttons Are ceramic and are wedged deep inside the phone chassis ensuring it won't just fall off

I've heard some with the exact opposite theory. It's random and has been reported on red models even. Manufacturing tolerances.

The volume buttons on my NS seem a little loose and rattle a bit, more than compared to my Vibrant. Anyone else have this? Just the way it's designed or a defect?
Otherwise, very impresses with the NS so far!
Pretty solid on mine, no give and does not rattle even if I shake it.
Pretty solid.. and I'm not going to shake it or do something to possible make it worse!
Mine rattles like crazy and it's super annoying. I guess if others don't do this then I should exchange mine.

Hmm, not good then, lol. I hope my BB has more in stock to do an exchange... Compared to my power button, the volume button(s) are very loose, make a rattling sound every time I even slightly touch it.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
mine is but im ok with it. My unlocked one does the same the power button is not loose while the volume button is.
Nothing wrong with mine, no noise or rattle.

exchange it, my vibrant had the same issue and i got one with sturdy buttons
What a pain. I just had everything customized and setup the way I like it and now I have to wipe it and get a replacement because of a crappy plastic volume button.
But at least there is a retail location to handle an exchange unlike the N1.

Fold a small piece of paper, take the back cover off, slip it in the gap of the volume rocker that goes into the hard back of the phone and that takes care of the problem

hahaha it worked for the vibrant and it works for this too =D
Many galaxies have this. Not a big deal for me.
Thx, that's a good idea re: the paper.
I was actually able to exchange mine today no problem, but had to drive 40 minutes to another BB that had a few in stock. This new one has a slightly loose volume button, but not as bad as the first one.
Mine is a little loose then my vibrant but I can live with it
just shook the hell out of mine. no rattle. have a vibrant, also doesnt rattle.
Eh... mine Just started to rattle. Not if I shake it, but if anything touches it. If I lightly touch it it will rattle. As if there isn't enough spring tension or more like the button is to small for the slot in the case. This is going to bug the hell out if me. I love this phone and its all finally customized how I want! Should I wipe and exchange it, or will they think I am crazy?
Same problem here.
The volume buttons are quite loose and I hear some rattle when I shake it.
But that's Samsung.
I know in some cases the Nexus One had problems with the power button, but at least there were no loose parts.
So I went to best buy to see if the loose button was just how its made or a defect. The employee took a few nexus's out of the boxes and they all had the same "loose feeling". Maybe loose is the wrong word; it just isn't solid like the power button. So I guess were just stuck with it. This is still a hell of a phone, just had some pretty high build quality expectations following my N1.

Well, the Nexus 1 did have a big problem regarding the power button.

Alright, my skyrocket got the sticky power button issue. I went to take the screws out, and what do you know. They were all stripped already! This phone is refurbished that I got over the summer when my last Skyrocket just died out of nowhere and never turned back on. Since its obviously past the warranty date for refurb, and I don't feel like dishing out 200 bucks for insurance just to upgrade in a few months for the S4, I took the power button out without taking the phone apart. I knew I wouldn't get it back in since the hooks would break, and I can easily access the white button..
but.
I was wondering if there was any way I could rig something over the power button just to make it slightly more convenient to press instead of putting my nail inside the spot where the button used to be.
Any ideas? Thoughts? Or shall I just suck it up.
Unless I'm misunderstanding the problem, why not just replace the outer power button housing?
http://www.cellphonerepairshop.com/samsung-skyrocket-sgh-i727/
You can order it from here. I'm looking into this issue myself since I'm having problems with my power button sticking. Could crazy glue the outer button sleeve to the hooks if you meant those were broken.
I can't really open the casing to put another power button in. The screws are too stripped.
Another question, does CM10.1 have volume wake toggle? I couldn't find it after I tore out my power button so I switched over to Embryo which while is a good rom... Is still touch wiz and doesn't suit me.

Smh..... You took out the power button & stripped the screws stop while you're behind bud take it apart somehow buy new screws use a dental pick and pure rubbing alcohol clean everything around that button because at your rate this thing won't last much longer use the dental pick to clean around the white button itself.

You can get off this thread now. As my post said, I didn't strip them. But thanks for the advice!

FWIW I tried the needle + rubbing alcohol tip to clean around the white power button as suggested but still seem to have the issue - phone is nearly unusable. The volume rocker wake function seems to be moved or missing in the nightly build of CM 10.1 I'm using.

I would personally modify a rubber case, glue a small piece of rubber to the power button on the case then just put the case on and it has two functions #1 you don't have an ugly power button #2 its functional.

Try these two apps I found then I never have to use the power button
All of a sudden today my power button became loose and now rattles. Rattles loud enough where I can here a foot away. I went to the Verizon store and all the gun metal ones had a very little rattle. Anyone having an issue with a loose power button?
No.mine moves a little, but I can't hear it..
I've been in two different Verizon stores and they had several ones that the rattling power buttons. Over 2 dozen between the two stores.
That's crazy.mines fine

Glad yours is fine. I just can't believe what I went through to get one that send fine so far. But mine went bad after 5 days. I hope no one else had this issue. I can't believe I'll be the only one though.
Just realized mine rattles today, had it less than a week, heard it while I was on the phone...not sure if swapping for a new one would help.
thoughts?

Go ahead and exchange. Have them check the stock in the back. Then cross your fingers that it won't happen again. Or return and wait to purchase one later. I've had luck so far on my replacements power button but my volume rocker one is kinda loose.. Not sure what I'm doing yet..pita I'm on my third replacement
Mine doesn't rattle at all. However it does seem to be sunk in a bit. I can rub my finger along the top and not feel the button at all.

Yah, unfortunately just like the original the power buttons have inconsistencies. I've seen then raised up nice to being flush.

I'd noticed that the darker m8s have the recessed button.. I have that and my fiancee has the silver.. Even the display models show it.
M8, nuff said.
I've noticed the same thing with the two colors. I just don't want mine to rattle bad.
Well, mine just started rattling today...
I have a rattling power button as well. If I move my finger across the button it moves from side to side. It doesn't bother me too much but I'm worried that it will eventually fall off. Should I ignore it or get it replaced?
The phone that I received initially had a loose volume toggle. I was able to get it swapped for a new one without any difficulties at a store.
Certainly if it is in the first 14 days, the replacement should be extremely easy. Not sure how much of a hassle it will be with later warranty support.
Just swapped out mine for the rattling power button as well as the right side of the screen coming loose causing a squeak. Spoke to a rep on the phone yesterday who said they don't have replacement devices for the m8 yet. Hopefully they will soon, but I would recommend anyone who is having issues to swap it out before your 14 days is up. Hopefully I'm wrong but I have a feeling all the current M8's will have the rattle issue eventually until the issue is resolved in the next batch.
I bought 3 s6 devices unlocked International Version, and on two of them the home button is slightly Wiggly. Is this normal or did I get two bad ones?
Mine moves a little. Never noticed it until now lol

Mine is loose since day one. I can tell you it has no effect on performance of the button click itself, it's just annoying. I've repaired home buttons before it it's because the glass wasn't pushed down enough. We're talking about a mm of difference. Unless it stops working completely, I suggest don't worry about it.

An XDA member recommended to press on it hard and it would supposedly solve the issue. Yes, button works perfectly but it's very annoying because sammy made a "premium device" and to have a clickly home button makes no sense...
Hi all,
So I just noticed that the power button seems to be slightly loose, hanging a little downwards. It is still working fine, but a little wobbly, not like the other two buttons (volume and camera).
Anyone else noticing this?
Thanks,
Abprie
What is age of your phone?
Mine is 6 month old, no issues.
I bought it when it came out. Was that like one year ago? Can't remember...
So, no one else with a similar issue?
I removed the back soft transparent TPU cover which I use from the phone so I could touch and test all three naked buttons for you, and they all behave the same, no one is loose. However, throughout over a one year period of use, all three buttons were protected by the back cover from dust and forcible manipulation. Did you use your phone naked without a cover or not?

Thanks for checking this. The power button feels significantly looser than the volume buttons, so I guess that something is different.
I always used the back cover, otherwise the phone was too slippery for me.
I use the phone for 2 weeks and all the buttons are the same without complaint. I use all the time with a rubber case (back). If your button suffered more in use (but it still worked) you can change the key mapping as I did, because the power button too often accidentally pressed when I took the phone in my hand. I replaced the POWER button with the top ASUSA.
