I need to recover the photos of an assailant that smashed my phone before the auto upload . this is my only evidence. When I connect the phone you would have to check other than charge only to view the drive can I get into the storage ?

Does your computer detect the phone when plugged in at all? You might be able to ruu up to a firmware that has mtp device and doesnt require you to change to a data transfer mode.
I cant think of any other way to bypass this
Mass storage I think is what you're asking?

Mass storage won't work because you need to be able to see the screen to select it, Exad was correct in suggesting an RUU up to a custom with MTP because MTP is automatically active upon connection.

I have the same issue on my WinXP machine.
I still get it, but when you plug in the device check the screen and toggle your connection settings on the USB popup.
do you have a SD card or are you just using the internal?
i have internal and external sd.
Yea, make sure you check the phone to make sure it is set as a storage device.

do u have a custom rom? i had this happen with jellywiz custom rls 2, was your developer mode turned on? try connecting it as a storage devide (mtp) instead of as a camera with developer mode on...
this solved the issue for me, i think...
I cannot get Mtp to work with debugging on. Turn it off, and it works fine. Unrecognized device, sd cards greyed out with debugging on. (fyi running synergy)

Is your phone rooted - otherwise you have sometimes no chance to do such a thing (you have to less right to view anything)!
Other wise switch do debug mode ! then you should have access with a terminalprogram over usb!

It seems that, like on the Atrix, /mnt/sdcard is your internal storage, while /mnt/ext_card is your real sdcard. You can verify this if you check their seizes: You know the size of your sdcard, so you should be able to point that out. The internal will probably have a size which is not a multiple of 8 (most likely, it will be 6 GB or the like).
If you are unsure how to check this, you could e.g. use SanDisk Memory Zone1 or, even better, Storage Analyser2, which should make it easy to point out:
Yes I rooted

Hey all,
How do I access my internal storage of my HTC One X (viper rom installed)? I use to have a HTC sensation and that was easy. Plug it in select storage and the drive popped up on my desktop or my computer. WIth this one it seems different. I never really noticed as most of my pics just went to dropbox and I never really needed to connect to the phone to grab anything. But now that I do its not the same as my sensation anymore. When I plug it in I see the a screen popup on the phone which has an option to connect to PC. I select that and a drive pops up on my computer that just shows some htc sync manager software and nothing else. I search some threads and google and tried suggestions like turning on/off debugging with no luck. Just the same htc sync manager shows up.
What am I missing?
Thank you!

It should show up in "My Computer" as an external drive. Does it not?

Nope...just a camera symbol shows up that says HTC One X. There's nothing in that folder/drive either other than sometime HTC Syncmanager shows up.

Yes you do. It's built in. That's the internal storage, it's still SD whether it's internet or external.

I see...we're talking same thing then...so you had to format...I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that. I'll keep using dropbox until a solution arises. What's strange is my friend has same phone but his is running stock HTC software and is not rooted or any tinkering has been done. He has the same issue as me...any solution for people running stock ROM?

If he's running stock he's either not mounting it or it's on JB and it's an MTP device which shows up but not as a normal hard drive.

Ok that's it. He's running JB and when he first connected it windows was trying to install MTP drivers but failed. So does that mean he can't access it?

Not until he installs the MTP drivers.
Try uninstalling HTC Sync, then re-installing. I think this will prompt the MTP drivers to be installed again.
USB mode was changed to MTP mode as of Jellybean. Doesn't behave completely the same as mass storage mode. But once the MTP drivers are installed, you will still be able to move files back and forth to the PC.
I have a problem with transferring files to my nexus 5 using MTP. I transfered the entire internal storage folder because I wanted to unlock the bootloader, however, now when I try to transfer it back then sometime in the middle it just hangs for a while and then gives an error.

be sure to keep your device wake, sometimes, going into sleep kills the data stream. and mtp is ****, so maybe use airdroid, or something similar to copy the data back, also it will take longer, it is more stable

How can it be so bad? I already tried reinstalling device drivers, changing USB ports (USB 2.0 and USB 3.0), nothing works. I don't want to use over the internet because with this many files it can take days.
Hey there friendly devs,
I have found myself in quite a conundrum:

My phone looks like this^^
It is rooted, has TWRP on it, I can plug it in, the LED lights up, I can click the buttons, but it doesn't appear mounted on my computer. As the screen is completely broken, I can't change the mounting options on the phone.
Is there any way I can get the data off the internal SD card?
Without being able to see what you're doing I don't see how you'd be able to retrieve anything from the device.

Is there any way to manually take the internal card out? Or access fastboot or adb without clicking anything on the screen?
Fastboot won't be any help. But if by chance you have no screen security setup, and you have usb debugging already enabled in Developer Options you could use adb commands to copy data from the device.

Try adb pulling internal sd. Not sure if it'd work but hey, worth a shot
