[Q] Battery: Removable? Extended? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for the noob question, but is the n5 battery removable?
And do we already know if some company will develop an extended battery or not?
Asking because i'm coming from an xperia p and i've been really disappointed and i like to be sure that this time i won't be let down!
Thanks

Not removable.

Not removable in a simple sense

It's not going to be as easy as a Galaxy S3 or 4 where the back just pops off easily. So unfortunately, there's no way to sanely remove the battery quickly and efficiently. The 2300mah should be enough for the average smartphone user, if you have any issues, just send it back in for warranty repairs/replacement and it'll all be ok.

It's not a noob question it's a lazy question. Nexus line never had removable battery, nor sdcard slot, and will never.
Fact is publicly known for years.

I spoke of LG nexus line.
And a simple Google search bring the answer in a couple a second. It's a lazy question, like all people asking for SIM size... written on device description page in Google play.

On the internet all the infos about battery (even that is not removable) were published before its presentation so i tought and hoped they weren't sure.
And to be clear, i wanted to know even if i could change it easily in about 10 minutes or if it was impossibile for me if not removable.
All LG nexus? U'r speaking of just another phone, man. Not other 100
Btw u think i'm lazy, i don't. You explained yourself, me too.
For me, no point of going OT and continue this way "argueing".
Have a good day

Where's the SD Card slot?

Anyone seen info on where they placed the microsd slot? I really hope it's not under the battery.

So we'll have to take the battery out to get at it? That sucks. I transfer a lot of movies onto my n1 and have to use a card reader if I want a fast rate.

No, I think its under the back cover and to the left or right of the battery like on the Magic And Espresso, I hope.

Well, there you go. Can't always trust what's said on the internet. Good to see a definitive answer, though.
Honestly, I just don't see the big deal whether it is or isn't. In the many years I've been using smartphones, I've never felt the need to remove the memory card. With 4gb internal and up to 32gb external, why would you need to? Obviously hot-swappable would be preferred, but I don't see what the big deal is if it isn't.
Because my nexus transfers at 2mbps in and 14mbps from a card reader.

Yeah, he's definately a pet and not a status symbol like some bully breed owners. He is fat, neutered, and happy indoor dog who is gentle as my childhood collie. My wife volunteers at a rescue (I help out sometimes) called Bama Bully. If you want another or wanna foster one... contact them at their website. Your dog is nice too. How old is he? He looks young... 1 or 2 years old, right?

Battery and camera question

Sorry if this has been asked before. I just got my phone today and it won't let me use the camera when my battery life is low. I think bellow 15% or so. Is there a way to force the phone to take the picture even there's not much battery left?
Thanks in advance.
On the Vibrant there is through "SGS Tools" if you're rooted. I'm not sure about its 4G descendent. I'd give that a try if I was you.

another thing to ponder
SGS 4G doesnt allow a picture to be taken during a phone call unlike my old HD2. this sucks just imagine.... " hey can i call ya back in a sec? i need to snap a picture real quick!!!"
Yep, I hate that too. Only on Touchwiz too, go figure.

LOL, I went to ebay and bought an extended battery for my Galaxy 4G. Good thing all the vibrant extended batteries work for 4G as well because they all have the same form factors.

Are there any places where I can buy extra batteries for this phone?

I don't like carrying an external battery charger with me, it's just too much. I don't mind carrying an extra battery itself though. Are there any websites I can order one off of, I can't seem to find any through ebay.
You are aware of the fact that you have to use a screwdriver to open the case and that the battery is glued to the phone? That's why you can't find any replacement batteries.

But I doubt someone that didn't know that the phone had a non removable battery would have a very easy time take taking it out and not breaking anything. Plus its a complete Hassel I already took my back off to check it out and its not something that u can just do a quick battery change.

I know it doesn't have an SD card slot, no OTG usability, and that since I'm in Canada and with one if the big 3, I can use LTE. Just because I missed this doesn't mean I don't know anything.
Seriously, elitists like you are ruining the community. "Omg, he doesn't know x, therefore he doesn't know anything." And guess what, you were wrong.
How could you buy a phone, use it. And then realize that the battery isn't replaceable? I don't think it's the community being rude or anything but that is just the honest truth.

I haven't used it yet. Still waiting for it to come in. On my second post, I say that I'm tempted to cancel my order, because it hasn't come in yet. Seriously, this battery thing is quite annoying. I mean, the whole SD card thing took me a bit to get over, then the no OTG, and now that I see this, it's just like, seriously, why?
Honestly, if I wasn't in Canada and couldn't use LTE (I know one American company can, I don't remember which one) I'd probably just not get the phone.
Anyways, the rude part was assuming I knew nothing based off of not knowing about the battery.

The reason why certain manufacturers chose to have a non-removable battery is that doing so gives them more space internally therefore leads to designing a slight higher capacity battery vs. if there was a removable one. That's how I understand it, but then again you're more than welcome to cancel the order and choose another device out there that would better suit you. That's the great thing about having options. . Enjoy!!

Replacement batteries will pop up. Just like Xperia S. Sony said Xperia S battery is not replaceable, but can be replaced as simple as Nexus 4.
Regarding lte.. This is not an lte phone. It requires you to change spa after each not unless you use another app like taller.
Also, a it is only a matter of time before they disable lte with an ota update. I believe our only works with Rogers but I am not sure..
To be honest this does not sound like the phone for you on my opinion of you are buying it for lte and if you are worried about the battery.

I'm not sure if it's a fan boy thing as much of it's that every review has pretty much mentioned it. It would be like being shocked there was no LTE. In fact, no one has actually even defended google (lg?) for the non removable battery decision, just talked trash about the OP's lack of knowledge.
Maybe fanboy means something different to you though.

Not everyone reads all the reviews for the nexus 4. So he missed that one feature for the phone, there's no need to be rude about it. Do you know every feature about every product that you buy?

Actually yes. for every tech product I buy, I made it a point to pour over as many reviews as possible and learn as much as I can from the official specification list before I made a decision to purchase it. While I'm not saying that everyone should be like me when it comes to purchasing a new tech product, but you gotta at least know about the major features before ordering.
With regards to the reviews part, I'm pretty sure at least 80-90% of the major tech site has mentioned at least once in their review that the battery is non-user replaceable.

It's usually good to know all about it before you drop 300+ dollars on it. Answering the question, yes, I did know every feature/immediate flaw of the phone before buying it. I'm sure most people in the iPhone community as well will be surprised if he goes and asks this same question there, or asks a question about SD cards for the iPhone.
But I sort of see where he's coming from, it's just that it was mentioned a lot in this forum which is why people are a bit more shocked than needed, but I guess it wasn't mentioned aaaaasssss much in just general articles that describe the basic specs of/ introduce the phone.

Well it depends on if you are a picky person that just picks apart every flaw in a device. I, for one, love the Nexus 5 and dont see any issues with it. Others will say the screen sucks or the battery isnt that great or the speaker is too low or the power button rattles (yes, thats a things here). It depends on the type of person you are. Maybe even what phone you are coming from, because chances are you will be comparing the two.

No real issues, just some quarks that can be fixed with a good custom kernel and Xposed framework. I`am very satisfied with the N5 personaly.

Looking at getting an N5
What's up N5 forum?
I'm wanting to get a new phone and I'm looking at a couple different devices. The N5 is on the top of my list though. I think for the price and the device you're getting, I just can't go wrong.
I've been reading through the N5 threads to get familiar with the device. Looks really nice, has some great hardware specs and has a lot of development, overall seems like a great device.
So how's everyone liking the device so far?
The only things that really concern me about the device is that it doesn't have a external sd card slot and doesn't have a removable battery. Anyone having issues with this?
Is the 16gb version enough or should I just go for the 32gb. I'm leaning towards the 32gb for the extra storage.
Anyone done a tear down on the device and know if the internal SD card is accessible and can be replaced with a larger SD card? I did this with my HTC HD7 and swapped the original internal 16gb SD card for a 32gb card.
I'm on metro pcs service, so is there any perks to either the Google play edition or the T-Mobile?
Either way I plan on unlocking the bootloader, rooting and flashing a custom rom.
Any feedback is appreciated

Thanks for the tear-down links.... They were very informative. I feel better knowing that the battery is pretty easily replaceable if needed.
The N5 has an integrated memory so there is not actual SD card in the device, but either way the 16gb or 32gb will be plenty of storage.

It was just posted, did you miss the 3rd post in your own thread??? dial that and hit send on your dialer, scroll through the options and you'll find out. Sounds like a bunk phone to me though if the battery is as good as the iPhone 5s! My wife has that phone and she uses it less than me and a full day she comes home with maybe 20% battery when i have at least 45% battery! iPhone has the worst battery life in any cell phone IMO! Even my work iPhone 4s i barely use at work for just text and calls and after a full day of work of maybe 20 calls and texts i have 35% battery left.

Do it manually! You need to use Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher to do this.

Did you follow the instructions? If there's none, then there's none. Some phone don't have the option, actually.

I thought all phones have that option... I will never know if my ebay phone is refurbished or not
Just used the code on mine and it went straight to the hidden menu.

Didn't know that! I only use that for changing my modem settings from eHRPD to Rev A 3G when Verizon's LTE/eHRPD network goes bonkers! Had to do it quite a bit on the Thunderbolt back in the day....only once in a blue moon on the DNA.

Can some one please tell me why some phones have it and others do not....?
Guys, you have to hit the CALL button after the last #
Odds are, due to the complexity of the devices original build, they will never have a "refurb" device on the market.

I might have fallen to hype claims regarding the htc's battery. But it doesnt seem much diffrent than my everyday use with the iphone 5s which have half the capacity... And thats after greenifying rooting etc...
Aside the battery, be nice to know i did not get a refurbished phone from an ebay seller...
But cant find the code that grants you access to see if device is refurbished or not

my battery lasts much longer than an iphone 5s. My wife has a 5s and its always dead by the end of the day. My phone is never even below 70% unless i play a bunch of games.
