Well it depends on if you are a picky person that just picks apart every flaw in a device. I, for one, love the Nexus 5 and dont see any issues with it. Others will say the screen sucks or the battery isnt that great or the speaker is too low or the power button rattles (yes, thats a things here). It depends on the type of person you are. Maybe even what phone you are coming from, because chances are you will be comparing the two.

Thank you mate. I know "Perfect" phone dosent exist and i dont looking for it. My phone in moment is Xperia S (nexus 5 is a huge step in upgrade).
I just want to know more about it, what could i expect and etc.
There is no major problem with nexus 5?
And p.s.
Guys above you, dont spam "seach for it", help if you can, if you cannot or dont want to help, keep your mouth shut. Thank you )

No real issues, just some quarks that can be fixed with a good custom kernel and Xposed framework. I`am very satisfied with the N5 personaly.
And as allready mentioned, we promote search and Google

If you searched defect, some of the threads would leave you to believe that the nexus 5 is practically a ticking time bomb ready to blow up, maybe 1 in 20 is a perfect model, and the defects are endless.

So?
If he searches "defect" he will see all the potential defects of this phone, which is what he asked for.
If he then doesn't have the intelligence to work out not all nexus 5 phones are like that, well nothing I can do there. ...and nothing I care about. I'm not here to sell the Nexus 5 to him. I couldn't care less if he got a nexus 5 or not.
Edit > actually, given his blase attitude towards forum rules, i'd probably rather he got an iPhone

Looking at getting an N5
What's up N5 forum?
I'm wanting to get a new phone and I'm looking at a couple different devices. The N5 is on the top of my list though. I think for the price and the device you're getting, I just can't go wrong.
I've been reading through the N5 threads to get familiar with the device. Looks really nice, has some great hardware specs and has a lot of development, overall seems like a great device.
So how's everyone liking the device so far?
The only things that really concern me about the device is that it doesn't have a external sd card slot and doesn't have a removable battery. Anyone having issues with this?
Is the 16gb version enough or should I just go for the 32gb. I'm leaning towards the 32gb for the extra storage.
Anyone done a tear down on the device and know if the internal SD card is accessible and can be replaced with a larger SD card? I did this with my HTC HD7 and swapped the original internal 16gb SD card for a 32gb card.
I'm on metro pcs service, so is there any perks to either the Google play edition or the T-Mobile?
Either way I plan on unlocking the bootloader, rooting and flashing a custom rom.
Any feedback is appreciated

The Google play store and Tmobile are the same phone. There's only two models United States and rest of the world.
Never heard of anyone opening up a nexus 5 to put a larger SD card in there

Well my concern was if the battery goes out there's no way to replace it... right? So the device is rendered useless and then your left with buying a new device. It's not like this is a deal breaker for me, I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems. I know it's a relatively new device and no one should have any problems with the battery yet.

Thanks for the tear-down links.... They were very informative. I feel better knowing that the battery is pretty easily replaceable if needed.
The N5 has an integrated memory so there is not actual SD card in the device, but either way the 16gb or 32gb will be plenty of storage.

Scared to buy because i heard development might be dead.

Im planning to buy it today but after reading threads about how development have been slow and might come to a halt soon. Coming from an HD2 i dont want to buy this phone only for rom development to cease 6 months later. Any reassurance you guys can offer me or should i just stay away?
Can you point to a thread where it was said development might be slowing? It seems to me like development is picking up since the release of the kernel source.
The latest AT&T OTA update might slow things slightly because it blocks the old root and unlocking exploits, but I don't think it's anywhere near dead. Still, I could be wrong. Where did you see this stated?

Did you just say your buying a phone solely on ROM development? If thats the only thing you want then this probably isnt the one for you. Even though IMO its the best phone currently out. Take a look around the forums and see for yourself if the development is up to your standard

Ah, okay. Well, not having had any other Android phone, I don't really know what to compare it to. I've been satisfied with the options available, but I'm not a Flash-aholic. There are a fair number of both Sense-based and AOSP-based ROMs to choose from, and so far none of the devs seem to be going anywhere. But, development will never equal something like the S3 or even the international One X, just because of the smaller userbase.
The other factor to consider is that if you get an AT&T One X today, it might very well come with the 2.20 update, meaning you wouldn't be able to root or unlock it right away.
It's not dead yet but even scrosler said that he will be moving on to another phone if something happens to his One X. AT&T should be ashamed of themselves for locking down this amazing phone. However the enthusiasts aren't their target customers. They don't care enough about losing us to change.
The OP is screwed if he gets a phone with the new software.
Btw, is everyone's xda app working ok? Mine won't connect or let me sign in.

Having the same problem with the Tapatalk app.
Also can't get in with any of the XDA apps.
As far as dev being dead. I don't see how. Check out the original development section, the guys are rocking in there and working hard to get things moving. Team Nocturnal is pumping out ROMs and updates for those ROMs. If the ultimate goal of "dev activity" is AOSP, which always seems to be the case, then we are very close.
The sky isn't falling, Chicken Little.
Back when the Captivate came out, people were saying the same thing for the first year the phone was out. Now go check out the Captivate forums. They are still going strong.
I think this has more to do with people not getting what they want RIGHT NOW, than anything else. Everyone wants perfect CM9 and CM10 as soon as they get the phone. It seems like a lot in the community frequently forget that these guys are doing this for free and of their own accord. Sometimes they run into problems like devices being bricked, broken...or not even having the device at all. Sometimes they are kids in HS and have other things on their plates. Not everyone has time to sit infront of a computer and develop for 12+ hrs a day.
I had my SGS2 for a good 6 months before CM9 nightlies came along.
It's also worth mentioning that if you don't at least donate to the devs, you don't really earn the right to ***** about anything.

If you're looking for a phone with development, go get an N1, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, etc... We got the HOX because it's the best phone on the market right now, regardless of the development scene. We are all thankful that we have a development scene, of course, but I think we all chose this phone before looking at the existing scene. As the phone matures, the scene will only get better.

Why would they do that? Given that there isn't an external sd slot, this phone has less space then most if not all android phones on the market.

I don't really store music on my phone, mostly pictures and videos which take up a lot of space. And if you add in a nandroid or two you + Titanium backup backups you are looking at a phone with no more storage room. Man such a bummer... I had no idea it was only 16g I guess I was looking at the International x and figured it would be the same as far as storage was concerned. Such a beautiful phone to be spoiled by this. Oh well my bad

Are there any places where I can buy extra batteries for this phone?

I don't like carrying an external battery charger with me, it's just too much. I don't mind carrying an extra battery itself though. Are there any websites I can order one off of, I can't seem to find any through ebay.
You are aware of the fact that you have to use a screwdriver to open the case and that the battery is glued to the phone? That's why you can't find any replacement batteries.

But I doubt someone that didn't know that the phone had a non removable battery would have a very easy time take taking it out and not breaking anything. Plus its a complete Hassel I already took my back off to check it out and its not something that u can just do a quick battery change.

I know it doesn't have an SD card slot, no OTG usability, and that since I'm in Canada and with one if the big 3, I can use LTE. Just because I missed this doesn't mean I don't know anything.
Seriously, elitists like you are ruining the community. "Omg, he doesn't know x, therefore he doesn't know anything." And guess what, you were wrong.
How could you buy a phone, use it. And then realize that the battery isn't replaceable? I don't think it's the community being rude or anything but that is just the honest truth.

I haven't used it yet. Still waiting for it to come in. On my second post, I say that I'm tempted to cancel my order, because it hasn't come in yet. Seriously, this battery thing is quite annoying. I mean, the whole SD card thing took me a bit to get over, then the no OTG, and now that I see this, it's just like, seriously, why?
Honestly, if I wasn't in Canada and couldn't use LTE (I know one American company can, I don't remember which one) I'd probably just not get the phone.
Anyways, the rude part was assuming I knew nothing based off of not knowing about the battery.

The reason why certain manufacturers chose to have a non-removable battery is that doing so gives them more space internally therefore leads to designing a slight higher capacity battery vs. if there was a removable one. That's how I understand it, but then again you're more than welcome to cancel the order and choose another device out there that would better suit you. That's the great thing about having options. . Enjoy!!

Replacement batteries will pop up. Just like Xperia S. Sony said Xperia S battery is not replaceable, but can be replaced as simple as Nexus 4.
Regarding lte.. This is not an lte phone. It requires you to change spa after each not unless you use another app like taller.
Also, a it is only a matter of time before they disable lte with an ota update. I believe our only works with Rogers but I am not sure..
To be honest this does not sound like the phone for you on my opinion of you are buying it for lte and if you are worried about the battery.

I'm not sure if it's a fan boy thing as much of it's that every review has pretty much mentioned it. It would be like being shocked there was no LTE. In fact, no one has actually even defended google (lg?) for the non removable battery decision, just talked trash about the OP's lack of knowledge.
Maybe fanboy means something different to you though.

Actually yes. for every tech product I buy, I made it a point to pour over as many reviews as possible and learn as much as I can from the official specification list before I made a decision to purchase it. While I'm not saying that everyone should be like me when it comes to purchasing a new tech product, but you gotta at least know about the major features before ordering.
With regards to the reviews part, I'm pretty sure at least 80-90% of the major tech site has mentioned at least once in their review that the battery is non-user replaceable.

It's usually good to know all about it before you drop 300+ dollars on it. Answering the question, yes, I did know every feature/immediate flaw of the phone before buying it. I'm sure most people in the iPhone community as well will be surprised if he goes and asks this same question there, or asks a question about SD cards for the iPhone.
But I sort of see where he's coming from, it's just that it was mentioned a lot in this forum which is why people are a bit more shocked than needed, but I guess it wasn't mentioned aaaaasssss much in just general articles that describe the basic specs of/ introduce the phone.

To keep or to sell =/

I just got mine in the mail today and have yet to open it. I am seeing all these post with the issues of the phone and honestly they have given me allot of second thoughts. Now i am debating selling it and getting an LG G2 instead. If i open it and play with it i will immediately kill the value of the phone.

Do you guys even read? The OP is not complaining about his Nexus 5 unit he received and he hasn't opened it yet so he can preserve the ability to return the unit and get a full refund. The OP is implying that he has been seeing issues with the Nexus 5 which he is a bit concerned about and is not sure if he wants to keep it or not. The OP didn't imply that his unit is defective nor did he say what he received is not what he expected. Sheesh learn to read.

Best phone I've ever owned. Can't speak to the G2, but I've owned Droid Charge, Droid RAZR, GNexus, GS3, Nexus 4, GS4, and Moto X. Nexus 5 is leagues better than all of those except the GS4. With the GS4, it comes down to preference, and I prefer the N5.

Overtime LG and Google will work together to identify what the problems are with the devices. Especially when you aren't going to open the box and speculate that it "might" have issues. Even if if your phone had issues, you could always call Google and request an RMA to get a replacement device. Why bother buy the device if you're going to think twice about it?
Holy crap the reading comprehension of some of you guys is in the gutter. Did you not read anything i wrote? I made it pretty clear that from reading of the issues in other people post that its made me hesitant on even opening the box. That was the whole point of the post and was asking if other who had been using their phones were disappointing or would take back the action of buying. So next time you want to jump down someones throat READ the post.
As far as the guy that said i had to open it, are you serious? What do you think "New in Box" mean... it means unopened 99% of the time. Ive sold hundreds of unopened phones, they sell much faster when they are new and unopened.

I just got mine in the mail today and have yet to open it. I am seeing all these post with the issues of the phone and honestly they have given me allot of second thoughts. Now i am debating selling it and getting an LG G2 instead. If i open it and play with it i will immediately kill the value of the phone.
Anyone else feel like they didn't get quite what they were expecting?

Do you guys even read? The OP is not complaining about his Nexus 5 unit he received and he hasn't opened it yet so he can preserve the ability to return the unit and get a full refund. The OP is implying that he has been seeing issues with the Nexus 5 which he is a bit concerned about and is not sure if he wants to keep it or not. The OP didn't imply that his unit is defective nor did he say what he received is not what he expected. Sheesh learn to reading.

Cool story bro.
I love this phone. It's fast, fluid, and a Nexus. Can't compare to a G2 or GS4 or any other current Gen phone because I haven't used any (coming from gnex), but the phone just feels great in my hand.
I'm assuming you ordered the phone because you wanted the Nexus experience over another OEM. If that's the case, go for it and enjoy your device. I haven't had any issues with mine at all and there are fixes out for some already (saw a thread here about a fix for the jiggly power button). And any real defects should be covered by warranty.
I say go for it. If you really want a different device, then sell it I guess.

Yes i wanted a unbloated Android, i have in the last 6 months had an S4 and a HTC One (current phone), i can get both of them with google editions however they both lose things(HTC One loses lots of cam functions with play edition) with that. When i saw the Nexus 5 it was a phone made for the Google edition and that was the selling point for me. I saw the fix for the button but considering we all just paid $400 for these phones we should not have to open the phone and put paper inside it so a button doesn't rattle lol

yup with 3 roms that they have to choose from
i am also thinking about the nexus 5, since there are so many mixed reviews. but we all know if google actually messed up with it, they'd do something about it.
and plus it'll hve great support
i'm just waiting for mine to arrive on thursday to see if these problems are even problems to me or maybe i'll end up loving it
@anthonyly
MOD EDIT FOR USE OF SWEAR WORDS

You deserve a G2... please return and buy the ugly skinned G2.

for the price, this is the best phone I've ever owned give it a chance
I'm so confused. Make your own decisions. Use the damn phone. People with no issues is the majority. People with defects or people saying, oh the speaker sucks, this screen sucks, etc. Well again its a affordable phone with the top of the line specs.
Like someone said, this happens with every phone. This sucks, I'm returning etc. This should be in q and a honestly.

Should I buy a Nexus 5?

Hello, I'm considering buying the Nexus 5, But I read that there are some common problems with the device Link, So is the device worth buying?, If so are there things I need to keep an eye on?, Like the box code or something? To be sure I have a fully functional model. Any advice is appreciated!!
Greetings,
GianniDPC
You'll need to decide that for yourself. You may have none of those issues in that link you provided. Or you may have some of them, or all of them, or more than them. See where I'm going with this?
Get the phone and if it doesn't work out for you return it. I think it's a fantastic device, by far the best Android phone made to date. imo
Read THIS and make your own mind up
About half of the issues listed in OP's link are common on all smartphones these days. Any phone can come with dead pixels, there's always a bad apple in a batch of good ones. Tons of smart phones, even iPhones all have rattling buttons. All of the others issues are primarily fixed in software updates, and I haven't had any of the issues listed.

I haven't experienced any of those problems, had mine for about a month now and I'm loving it, for what it's worth.
I just want to chime in with a simple "yes". Even if you WERE to get a device with an issue, you can exchange it under warranty.
I'm in love with this phone. I got it specifically because its a root machine and has tons of development. Its an amazing device. Get it.

That's the thing with people now a days..lots of people complain about a certain device having "issues" that other people become unsure if they want the device.I personally don't believe in what people say in the forums with the issues they're having.I purchase a phone because its what I want if I were to encounter issues then I do if I don't then that's great.but I'm not gonna let what some people say about them having issues stop me from buying a device I want. You simply just have to buy it and test it for yourself.most people are just picky and start complaining about random stuff.I will probably get lots of hate about this post but I've been seeing a lot of "buying a nexus 5 but seeing lots of post issues, should I still buy" threads. You just have to buy the phone and see for yourself. Just wanted to put my opinion out there
I'd say wait until google fixes the no SMS or phone calls on LTE issue.

As others have mentioned, buying from Google means you can always return you're phone for any hardware issues. They will even cross ship you the new phone so you're never left a day without a phone and can compare the two models before sending one back.
The supposed "issues" with this phone are severely overblown by some extremely nitpicky people. Get the phone. It's awesome.

[Q] How to check if Nexus 5 is legit? (real or fake)

Okay, so this is a strange question, but I think that it is worth asking. Are there such things as "fake" Nexus 5's out there? I've heard of all the fake Galaxys out there, but I've never heard of a fake Nexus yet. I'm asking because I am set to buy a white one off of Craigslist tomorrow for $200 and due to my inexperience with this device I figured I'd ask my peers here at XDA. And if you have any hints or tips of what to look for before I buy it, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!
If you think it would help I can post or PM a link.
I've never heard of a fake nexus 5, and I doubt what you're about to buy is a fake. That said, even the fake devices (iPhone, Galaxy, etc...) out there are obviously fake, and if you've seen a real one in person, you'll be able to tell. If you're that concerned, just download a system/hardware info app and it'll tell you exactly what hardware you have. I just looked in the play store and found this one- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dama.hardwareinfo
Anyway, I seriously doubt you have anything to sorry about. Post the link.
Thanks!

Cool, like I said I'm kind of foreign to this device so I didn't know if it was even a possibility so I thought that I had better ask before I "waste" 200 bucks on this thing. I've actually never seen a Nexus 5 in person lol but I like the idea of owning a straight up Google device for many reasons. Anyways thanks a ton for getting back to me on this subject... I was at a loss. The other thing I thought of doing is running the IMEI through a site I found www.IMEI.info. I tested it on my Atrix HD a little while ago and it seemed pretty accurate.

Yeah, it looks legit. Honestly man, you have nothing to worry about. I actually find the concept of a kirf nexus to be pretty humerous. The only real concern is if it's stolen or not but since the ad says it was purchased from the play store, ask them to bring a proof of purchase. I've done that for people before. And ALWAYS put your SIM card in and test it before letting them walk away with your money.
All that said, you're buying an amazing device and you're going to love it. I buy a new phone every few months, and even though I have a 2014 Moto X and an iPhone 6, I still use my N5 regularly. I don't think I've ever kept/used a smartphone past the year mark before, but the N5 is really something special. So yeah, you're gonna be real happy with it.
That's awesome man and thanks again for all of your help. Its really assuring since it seems you're like me with these android devices lol. None of mine have ever lasted more than 6 months before I'm ready to sell one and start rooting and flashing away on something new. And I've always lurked all the forums on here so I knew where to come for such an off key question. Plus it gave me a good reason to look in the N5 development section

Hey no prob bud, happy to help. I think we have a problem lol, I don't know how people can keep a smartphone for 2 years, seems crazy to me. I just got the Moto X and iPhone a couple months ago and I'm already planning on buying the Saygus V2. I will say this though, when the N5 does finally retire, I absolutely will not sell it. It's gonna go in the museum. There's just something about it that makes me want to hang on to it forever. I feel like this is most "nexus" of all the nexus phones. Does that make any sense??? Lol

Haha, I wouldn't say we have a problem, but my ex certainly would and has said that. And I definitely don't know how someone could make it 2 yrs, I always do prepaid monthly stuff (atm, Cricket) so it makes it really easy to "flip phones" on Craigslist and keep things interesting for myself. I honestly change so much that I always forget to change what devices I'm using until well after they are gone lol. And WOW, that was the first I've heard of that Saygus so I looked it up and yeah.. I'm speechless. Anyways, this Nexus 5 does seem like the most Googlesque Nexus so far but I've only tinkered with its predecessors. The closest I've come to owning one otherwise was last Winter when I bought an AT&T Optimus G and I LOVED it so I now I really can't wait to swoop up my N5 in a few hours. Anyways... I'm sure I'll see ya around in the forums and if you have any advice on some fun stable ROMS plz PM with me the info.
Why fake a old and cheap device?
I don't know? Maybe bc there's s million fake S4's out there on craigslist and that's an even older and cheaper phone lol... Why ask why?
Anyways, I picked it up earlier and used the Nexus 5 info app and everything is good.. Even under warranty still! I can't keep my hands off the thing, I love it!

Ha, battery life is not as bad as I expected to be honest. I read a lot about the device before I even thought about buying one and from the reviews I read on multiple sites I was kind of worried that it would be TERRIBLE. But actually not too bad considering that I haven't let the screen turn off much since I picked it up earlier. I also expected worse battery life from the sheer performance of this phone.. it is LIGHTNING fast compared to my old G2 and especially my Atrix HD. Tomorrow I'll post a SS of a normal days battery stats if you'd like.

Glad you like it man, it's an AMAZING device. Any plans on how you're going to mod it? I'm keeping mine on stock KitKat and use Xposed modules to customize it to my liking. I don't know how you feel about Lollipop, but I prefer KitKat by a wide margin.

Yeah really is a fantastic device.. It doesn't really compare to any of the many I've owned! As far as development goes and versions of android, I'm kind of up in the air. I'm not even sure if I want to root it yet(I've only unlocked bootloader so far). I love the look of the official Lollipoop lol but it sounds like ppl say it is WAY harder on the battery life and I think they may be right. I was thinking about just down grading back to KK, but I'm leaning more towards rooting it and flashing a stable KK custom ROM and just theme it to Lollipoop. Got any insight for me on all this?

I don't even do custom ROMs anymore, I'm all about stock. All three of my devices are running stock KitKat, though my N7 does have a custom kernel. I use Xposed for any little features or minor theming I do. I'm sure there are a bunch of great ROMs out there (I used to be a massive fan of anything Scrosler put out), but for me nothing beats the dependability of stock.
