UK Price - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I stay in the UK and it seems the Nexus 5 is quite a lot more expensive than it is in the US.
The 16GB model in the US costs USD 349 and that should translate base on exchange rates to be GBP 235. However it costs GBP 299 in the UK Play Store. That is 64 pounds more!
Do you think it would be wise to order it in the US and then get it shipped over to my UK address? Potentially how much would I save if any at all? Not in a complete rush to get the phone.
Thank you!

You will probably be ended up paying for cause if you import from us you will face import duty fees

$299 does not include the different sales tax that states have to pay which can vary, the UK price does include the VAT which we pay @ 20% so £299 - 20% = £239

Don't complain. I paid 700$ just for the 16 GB model in my country and delivery in december. Im happy anyway.

price in US not include taxes thats why seems lower

Add Tax from each different state in America. Plus import duties at the border. You probably pay even more Tbh.

Without VAT: £299 / 1.2 = roughly £249
249GBP is roughly 399USD
So we still pay a premium, but it's not AS bad. (£280 for the nexus 4 was obviously fairer though).

Galaxy nexus prices?

So,what are the off contract prices for the galaxy nexus( in other country's)
in The Netherlands.
it will be released in December(late in my eyes) and for advice price of 649 euros!
really expensive in my eye's.
thats:
887,57 dollar.
564,76 British pound.
so im looking into a solution to import it for a cheaper price than the dutch version.
we use GSM here and that means the HSPA+ version if im right.
Pricing list:
The Netherlands- 649 Eur-887,57 USD-564,76 GBP
belsimpel.nl- 599 Eur-827,04 USD- 524,13 GBP [32GB]
MOBICITY- 605,50 Eur-810,18 USD-520,69 GBP [Pre-ORDER]
British retailer Clove-588,38 Eur-813,61 USD-514.80 GBP [16GB]
handtec.co.uk-575,99 Eur-795,27 USD-503.99 GBP [16GB]
Italy-599 Eur-828,30 USD-524,10 GBP [16GB]
T-Mobile-469,34 Eur- 649 USD-410,65 GBP[unlocked 32GB][Source unknown,not 100% accurate]
No prices announced yet in the US that I am aware of.
i've seen some news says that 299 USD with 2 years contract although not yet know how much need to pay every month
personal idea , retail price is usually double or triple of contract price
and pre-order price of MOBICITY is 799 USD...
let's make simple guess
i9100 dual-core 4.3" screen without contract = 549 euros in Spain
and i9250 is better (bigger screen...etc)than i9100 , i think it costs over 700 euros at least...
and new release model is always much expensive than usual ... maybe over 900 euros in the first few weeks

Usually when the price is as high as 800 its probably due to the LTE. But maybe a little less for the GSM version =]

Its also going to come in 16 GB and 32 GB versions.
In the UK phones4u want £46 per month on a 2 year contract.....ouch!

LTE , you mean 4G ?
just have a stupid question , how good or useful it is ?
how much area have covered with 4G ... ?
and what's good for ?
3G's speed is more than enough...
also 3G connection already been battery killer ... how about 4G ?
I really hope Tmobile sells it subsidized. It'd be foolish not to if Google/Samsung wants to get this device into people's hands.
My guess is that it will be similar to the nexus s
As far as lte..i agree...but this will probably be around..600 for the off-contract lte for gsm...around 500

it's going to be sold on best buy as usual
so you can only get discount if you sign contracts for X amount of years

Right. That is to say, if eligible, you can extend your already existing contract for two years with Tmobile and get the device at subsidized price, correct?
Did they do this for Nexus S?

nice answer would be handy ^^

Where can we place international Transformer Prime orders? Shipping to Europe, etc?

I wish to order Prime whenever it comes out instead of having to wait until next year until it is launched in Europe. Do any sellers in US ship internationally? I have checked Amazon and BestBuy and GameStop, but none of them ship internationally.
This means both the amethyst gray and champagne versions and with a keyboard dock (either separately or 2-in-1).
Please post information here if you have it available
(There still doesn't seem to be XDA forum for Prime?)
You also have the option of using a forwarder. They provide you with a US address and then re-ship the product to you for a fee. That fee is usually less than European customs fee so if they send it to you as a gift or sample you might very well come out ahead of the game.

Can you recommend any? I do not know where to begin with a search, since it might be easy to fall into a scam of sorts.

If you do go down the route of buying a US Prime there is a thread on the UK kindle users forums (thread here) where they used (bundlebox) to have them delivered to the UK. Seemed expensive but for the guy in the above thread it worked a treat.

There are lots of them. for example:
US Global Mail
CTSI Logistics
Mail Forwarding
If you don't like any of these just do a Google search for "forward shipping"
I was thinking of buying Asus Transformer Prime form bhphotovideo.com, but 32Gb model with all shipping fees and taxes would cost 580 euros, when the same model plus dock from amazon.de is 599 euros.

Had a quick check and reckon it'll cost around an additional £110 to get it shipped to UK. This includes the import charges, VAT and BundleBox's admin fee. Assuming you get the tablet for $499 and it's only the tablet you ship over, then that comes to a total cost of around £430. I doubt the 32GB version in UK would be priced at more than £499 so in the very best case scenario, you'd be saving around £70. For the added hassle, delay and additional risk if there's any problems, it doesn't seem worth it but each to their own.
I think I'll get mine to come back with the next friend/colleague who comes back from the USA

Verizon Galaxy S3 for 149.99 at Amazon

I'm an existing Verizon customer and just upgraded to GS3 for 150.00 from Amazon. This is my second GS3. I think it's a great deal for this top of the line phone.
Good thing I didn't buy the phone yet since I'll most likely be taking this offer instead of paying an extra 50 bucks.

you can get it for 149 on radioshack.com

How much are Amazon's taxes? Also, on radioshack.com the 32GB is 199 which is the price of the 16 on Verizon.

If you have an unlimited data plan and you try to order from Amazon you can only upgrade to the new All Share BS. So if you want to keep your current plan and pay for the new data packages you can't use them. For example I have a 450 minute plan and all I needed to do was change data packages with VZW but Amazon couldn't do that.
Thanks for the heads up!
I got mine from radio Shack for $160 after tax but don't forget about the $30 upgrade charges so I really only saved $20 after taxes

S4 cost might be lowered after Google IO?

Google announced that they will be selling the stock version of S4 LTE version for £427 ($649) on Google play. Currently the lowest cost sim-free S4 in the UK is £500+. I personally think that the price will drop soon. I am sure it will be a good news for everyone

Not in the U.S.A. it won't.
If we paid US prices on the UK then nearly all of our Sim free phones would be cheaper. This would retail for £499 of it comes to the UK

You're forgetting taxes, and also VAT for the uk
£427 + 20% VAT = £512.40
Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was more than this as stuff in the UK is rarely the exact figure as the US price + vat

Taxes always make UK prices more expensive. It's why we're called rip-off britain.
Consider the 8gb Nexus 4, a phone sold on the same website as the 'nexus' s4
US Price = $299, which converts to £196
But the 8gb nexus 4 costs £239 here, a 22% increase
So a realistic price for the S4 would be 427x1.22 = £521
Trust me, stuff is always more expensive here, and never the direct currency conversion
Having lived in Australia and Canada I can tell you this country is going to the dogs, its just a shame they're so tight on immigration!
Australian nexus 4 is 20$ more in Australia, I was earning 25$ an hour working in GAP... We get raped in the UK

The price of S4 (LTE) version has dropped to £450 now on amazon. High five for a good prediction! ...no one? ok
For people getting a subsidized phone from a carrier the price for a TW-less SGS4 on Play is pretty much irrelevant. And the masses like "stuff" and the lack of TW won't be perceived as a benefit so if the prices between a Play SGS4 and unlocked SGS4 are close the standard SGS4 will win. When the GN was the same price as the SGS2/3 Samsung only sold 750K of them and it was available subsidized on quite a few carriers. So it’s doubtful that the Play price, which Samsung likely controls (it’s not a Nexus phone), will influence Samsung’s pricing strategy.

I think all the invites are only for 64GB right now. I can't remember if I was allowed to choose when ordering not like anyone would get 16GB though I do love that white cover.
I just got mine in Vancouver. Ordered on July 31st, shipped Aug 1st, and arrived on Aug 5th. Missed delivery so I just picked it up yesteday. Shipping to Canada only allowed express shipping option by DHL and that added $27.99USD on top of the $350USD. Exchange rate at 1.118 on my credit card ended up charging me $422.97CAD. Duties and taxes was $54.03CAD which you have to pay on delivery or you can pay online after it comes out of customs and before it gets to you. I could have shipped it to Point Roberts or Blaine to avoid the taxes and customs fees and US shipping only has regular shipping option for $14.99USD. I didn't have time to go down on a weekend to pick it up so I didn't bother.

Final price after duties and delivery and exchange rate was $490. Not such a great deal after all.
Why is it not a great deal? I spent $477 total on this phone and if I bought an unlocked HTC m8 it would have been $700+$84 tax or the S5 at 730+$88 tax. I saved over $300 already. If you sign up for a 2 year contract with the big 3 in Canada, they'll give you an S5 for $100, but lock you into a 80/month plan.
That's right guys. I also ended up paying $490 CAD here in Winnipeg. This phone is such a great deal for us Canadians. 13% Tax here really hurts local buyers.
