S4 cost might be lowered after Google IO? - Galaxy S 4 General

Google announced that they will be selling the stock version of S4 LTE version for £427 ($649) on Google play. Currently the lowest cost sim-free S4 in the UK is £500+. I personally think that the price will drop soon. I am sure it will be a good news for everyone

Not in the U.S.A. it won't.

If we paid US prices on the UK then nearly all of our Sim free phones would be cheaper. This would retail for £499 of it comes to the UK

You're forgetting taxes, and also VAT for the uk
£427 + 20% VAT = £512.40
Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was more than this as stuff in the UK is rarely the exact figure as the US price + vat

Taxes always make UK prices more expensive. It's why we're called rip-off britain.
Consider the 8gb Nexus 4, a phone sold on the same website as the 'nexus' s4
US Price = $299, which converts to £196
But the 8gb nexus 4 costs £239 here, a 22% increase
So a realistic price for the S4 would be 427x1.22 = £521
Trust me, stuff is always more expensive here, and never the direct currency conversion

Having lived in Australia and Canada I can tell you this country is going to the dogs, its just a shame they're so tight on immigration!
Australian nexus 4 is 20$ more in Australia, I was earning 25$ an hour working in GAP... We get raped in the UK

The price of S4 (LTE) version has dropped to £450 now on amazon. High five for a good prediction! ...no one? ok

For people getting a subsidized phone from a carrier the price for a TW-less SGS4 on Play is pretty much irrelevant. And the masses like "stuff" and the lack of TW won't be perceived as a benefit so if the prices between a Play SGS4 and unlocked SGS4 are close the standard SGS4 will win. When the GN was the same price as the SGS2/3 Samsung only sold 750K of them and it was available subsidized on quite a few carriers. So it’s doubtful that the Play price, which Samsung likely controls (it’s not a Nexus phone), will influence Samsung’s pricing strategy.

Without contract price?

There's an AT&T HTC One X on eBay that I wanna bid on, but I can't find the retail price of this phone anywhere. Amazon.com has it listed at $729.99, but that is ridiculous. I looked at wireless.att.com but they only show the upgrade price. Anyone have a better source?
It was listed at $549 without contract at my local store.

I can confirm $550. I work for AT&T and for Android phones, the no-contract price is generally the upgrade price plus $350.

Amazon also has it for $549 no contract also. It's best for some since they don't charge tax for certain states.
Go to their Amazon Wireless page. If you use their regular site, it will just list the marketplace price.

I must have been in the wrong place then because the page I saw said $729.99 and $149.99 on contact.
But yeah that's why I thought about eBay; even if I have to pay full price there won't be a $36 upgrade fee or taxes. I'll do Amazon if this auction gets outta hand, but right now it's only at $250 so we'll see.

32G Galaxy S4: Amazon or Costco?

Alright, I see the 32G SGS4 in stock with AT&T. Did anybody see this one on Amazon or at Costco yet?
I asked at my local Costco and they said they haven't recieved any indication that they'll have the 32gb version, at least anytime soon. I'm planning on just returning my 16gb to Costco next week and just buying the 32gb from att.

Did they have it in stock? Or will have it in the future, and if the future, did they have a date? I've been waiting on costco/walmart/amazon to get the 32gb, hopefully at a discount.
This sounds like great news.

They had the black 32GB in stock for $200. I also got some information on their protection plan which is better than Square and Trades. It's $100 up front and the deductible is only $25. It's a shame my upgrade is in July 1st.
Good luck getting them. The HTC One was completely sold out though, only because they didn't get many of them. But it looked like the SGS4 was readily available.

Are you certain they had the black 32gb in stock? I spoke with our local costco who said they do not have it and at this point will not have it, and he checked with the Azusa store and they had no indication that they were carrying or would carry the 32gb?
May give them a call directly in a second, just wondering if you were able to confirm in person with the device that they had the 32gb?
I did see on costco's site that they list the 16gb version as $249 - $50 discount for a total of $199, rather than just straight $199. Wonder if that was the confusion?
I wrongfully assumed so due to the 250 price point being marked down when it's Costco mistake for advertising the 16Gb was 250 before the sale.
They have the 16Gb,sorry.

Not a problem I was really hoping that I was getting the runaround but it looks like I'll just need to go to ATT and buy it outright, could be worse. Now if they would just announce when the active was coming out so I can decide if its really worth waiting 2 months until mid July

Yes, it will. Nexus phones have always and will always be unlocked.
Best Buy's prices on this phone(as well as some overpriced stuff like cables) make me feel much much better about using them as a showroom. I'd be willing to pay $50-$100 more to get the phone a couple weeks earlier(I lost my phone Halloween) but the price point they're pulling is ridiculous.

Radio Shack ?
Why would Best Buy sell the 16gb phone for $799 ????? They sell Chromecast at the regular $35 price, same as the Play Store.
What's wrong with these people ?? Worst Buy is damn right.
I was looking forward to find the N5 in a brick and mortar store, does anyone have an idea when it will be available at Radio Shack, and what the price will be there ?
BTW I think a ~$25 premium over the Play Store is fair, ie $375 for the 16, $425 for the 32gb version. No more than that.
Walmart > Best Buy, they sell iPads and iPhones for LESS than Apple does !

That's $449 for the 16GB model, not 8GB, so it's $50 more than Google Play. The 8GB model is $349 from Google Play and Best Buy doesn't even list that one, and of course the $449 16GB is listed as a Sprint model (doesn't matter since it's unlocked regardless).
If you just gotta get one right freakin' now then that's probably the only option given the shipping times and inventory shortages at Google Play - but then again it says November 8th availability too, bleh.
There is no 8gb nexus 5. On Google play its $349 for 16gb, $399 for 32gb.

[Q] A question about the price in Germany

Hi, can anybody please tell me how much is the Nexus 5 in Germany? I don't have the play store available in Romania and I'm trying to find another country that sells the Nexus 5 more closer to the price in USA. UK price is a bit high and I was wondering what the price may be in Germany. If someone could help me I would deeply appreciate it. :fingers-crossed:

Vlad where did u order phone now?
Got same problems here with ordering from Slovenia
or Croatia. I don't have time to wait for Expansys
It's an habit now for companies to just convert dollar prices in Euro without considering the change rate between currencies. So official play store prices are 'the same' in U.S. dollar and Euro.
Third parties sellers are free to sell it at any price. Usually high prices.

Tax isn't included in $ prices.
So they don't convert 1$ = 1€, but 1$ excl. tax = 1€ incl. tax. That's not as bad.
