Hello!
I've rooted my phone and started using custom ROMs a while ago. Today, attempting to go back to motorola's rom, I realised I didn't have my pics in there, so I went back to my previous setup restoring from a backup. Everything was fine (wallpaper, whatsapp wallpaper, profile pictures, etc.) until the gallery loaded up and nothing would show up.
My gallery folders were there and did show up how many pics they have inside but when I'd open it, it would only show gray squares and after a while everything would vanish and only my album arts from n7 player showed up.
I'm using PACMAN for xt925 and TWRP.
One detail, however, is that I reinstalled (overwrote) TWRP, because the stock motorola ROM can't seem to boot into it unless I do it right after I install it. Maybe that's what messed up my pics? Is there a way to recover them?
Thank you!

Does anyone know what all Google Backup is backing up? It seems when I use it that it is overwriting some of my themes but I'm not sure just how much of it. For instance, the first time I used it was when I flashed to CM7 and I was using the wallpaper with the droid against the brick wall. Now with every new rom it resets my backgrounds to that exact one i was using with CM7. And the wallpaper isn't even listed in my wallpaper options.
I never trust it with anything other than my contacts, calendar, and gmail. I use Titanium Backup for everything else.
I managed to delete the original gallery on my KF while trying to delete something else. Should this be the the 3d gallery apk? Well I couldn't seem to find it on line so I pulled the one off my Samsung Droid Charge and attempted to push it to system\app with Root Explorer but when I attempt to install it just says that it did not install. Any ideas? Wrong apk or permissions? Need a quick class on what I am doing wrong, did not see it posted elsewhere. I am rooted and like to use it to put some family pics on the ADW home screen.
Thanks!
Ok, got the right apk from krelvinaz (thanks so much). Using Root Explorer I clicked install and it installed in data\app. Didn't do anything to permissions. So now while rooted OR unrooted, I try to use the picture frame widget. If picking the picture from Gallery it lets me resize, hit save and it just closes without adding anything to the screen. If I hit the widget and use QuickPic for the picture selection, it creates the frame on the screen but it is black with nothing in it.
Any ideas? Do I need to change permissions or load the apks in a different folder? This all worked fine before I screwed up and deleted gallery. Worked when it was rooted too.
Bump.
Anyone? Tried several different apps. The ones that work either just put up a black box or put up the pic but it doesn't stay and reverts to the black box. Worked before so something is missing since I deleted the gallery the first time.
Hey all,
I've been using galaxy R for couple of months now and i've started to face this problem from a week.I have observed that after i add new images (jpg) to usb storage they dont appear in the gallery after the media scan.I've tried restart and clear data for gallery app but nothing seems to work.
I can very well see the images in myfiles or astro file manager, also tried quickpic and it displays the newly added images correctly. Also if try to open images from filemanager using gallery app, takes long time to open any image which is again not the case with quick pic.
I really need the default gallery app very badly.
Thanks.
Check if there aren't any other files in your image folder. Sometimes noimage.dat or other file appears out out nowhere and it causes the gallery problem. Delete that file if it is the case + try to not keep other file-types in your pics folder.
Well I've checked it and there are no such files neither hidden one. Also i've completely deleted the previous folder and copied to a new folder. But looks like gallery is freezed except for the camera folder and images downloaded through internet only gets updated.I've deleted entire contents of cache folder in data/cooliris but does not work.In fact previous images turned black.I dont seem to understand whats going on with the gallery.
maybe try a factory reset
I'm sorry for bringing this up again, I know it has been asked before, but the solutions provided didn't help me.
My problem:
The Stock Jelly Bean gallery app only shows grey images and thumbnails..
I have tried to clear the data and cache of gallery and media storage, rescan the sdcard, full wipe, changing roms etc.
the weird thing is.. everywhere else the pictures display normally. Quickpic, file explorer, computer etc.
it's just the stock gallery app..
i don't mind using quickpic, but it drives me mad: ever since the images didn't work, daydream doesn't work, i can't set whatsapp pictures and similar
I've been using stock 4.4 on my Nexus 5 for a while. I installed CM11 M1, and now it seems like the Camera, Gallery and Photos apps cannot see pictures in DCIM/Camera starting from a certain date (around 2 weeks ago) onwards. Taking new pictures with the CM camera app seems to work when you take the picture, but scrolling right to view the picture you just took does not show it in the app, nor do Gallery or Photos. However, file explorer apps do see the missing pictures, including ones just taken with the CM camera app.
Restoring my stock ROM backup goes back to normal and I see all the pictures, again, including the ones I took with the CM camera app.
I've tried CM11 M1 and also the 2013-12-06 nightly (with a full factory reset and wipe), same results.
Has anyone seen this behavior after installing the official CM11? Thanks!
