Is it possible root, unlock, install custom recovery without a PC? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi guys,
So I have a problem with my Verizon GS3, my PC nor 3 other machines won't accept it. My PC accepted it once and that's when I ran Casual and stupidly chose to just root my device. Eversince then everytime I plug it into my PC, the phone will go USB Connected then quickly disconnects and connects again over n over again. I've tried different versions of the driver, with and without kies. Etc, etc. So far I think Odin 3.7 detects it but everytime I write, it says nand write fail (auth)
So anyway, my apologies if it's already been asked, is there any other way to root, unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery without the need for it to be plugged into a PC/mac?? Thanks in advance.

You can use Ez-Unlock to unlock your bootloader (link at bottom). Also you can use GooManager to install TWRP (Install openrecoveryscript). As for root you can try framaroot with the Aragorn exploit (May or may not work).

Thanks for the suggestions! I just tried ezunlock and it requires root. Unfortunately, I've already unrooted. Gonna try framaroot and see how it goes. Thank you!:good:

OK so framaroot does NOT work on the SCH-I535. I was going to suggest just flashing a rooted stock image using Mobile Odin. But mobile Odin requires an unlocked bootloader. And you can't unlock using Ez-Unlock because you don't have root. It's one big f***ing circle!!

Easiest way is find any PC (Widows or Mac) and run Casual and be done.

best advice
run casual from a friends computer and pick your rom kernel mods and whatnot and go ahead and install them all in one sitting. I am in the same boat as you. same phone, carrier and issue. I rooted it and didnt put my custom rom on it.

I finally got root and an unlocked bootloader from another thread here. Fortunately, despite not having access to my microsd, odin detected my s3 and I got to flash a stock rom, then recovery then an unlocked bootloader. Thanks guys.

[Q] How can I root, unlock bootloader, and/or install CWM with USB connectivity?

Lost USB connectivity after manual 2.3.4 install. Now I'm told I have to root, unlock my bootloader, or install ClockworkMod. From what I'm reading all of these involve connecting phone to PC via USB, which isn't working. I tried reinstalling/updating the drivers but no luck. I've also already tried installing the latest SDK. Still no luck. Any help will be appreciated.
I am not sure about this, but USB connectivity might work while you are in recovery.
Just boot into recovery and give it a try.

No, that doesn't work.
I used "Gingerbreak" to root my 2.3.3 stock NS. I havent heard if it works with 2.3.4, but if it does, it is all done on the device- No USB needed.
Download the .apk (I believe its in the market), and its one-click on the device to root. Then you can download ROM manager to install the CWM recovery.
Let me know how it goes.

Clean ROM and System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless

I now tried to load the Clean ROM twice and when it's down loading I get the System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless and had to run ODIN to get the SIII back up and running.
Anyone else having this happen?
1) root
2) Unlock your bootloader using EZ Unlock v.1.2 from Rootzwiki
3) flash CleanRom using CWM or TWRP
Your bootloader is still locked that's why you see that Verizon warning.

[Q] Can I go back to a stock rom from CWM?

Hi guys,
3 days ago I had root but softbricked by installing hyperdrive when "I thought" I unlocked via ez-unlock but I guess that didn't take. Tried to restore back to stock but couldn't, I lost access to CWM and Odin nor Heimdall (Mac, Linux and Windows) didn't like my phone in 3 computers using 3 different cables.
But from continuous failed/incomplete/partial flashes, CWM is miraculously back! So that's like my only glimmer of hope right now. So my question is could I get back to stock or any rom from flashing something from CWM? Could I get ANY kind of ROM running again, could I root again, unlock bootloader and install new rom via CWM.. Basically can I fix my phone from CWM? Or is the only way back to any rom is via stock via Odin/Heimdall?
PLEASE HELP.

So confusing....
Ok, so you're on a stock rom right now and you have cwm installed? You must have some type of root enabled, do you have supersu or superuser installed? If you don't you need to install one from the playstore.
If you have cwm, then all you need to do is use ez unlock to unlock your bootloader then you can flash away. Use version 1.2, you likely used 1.4 which doesn't always work.

I'm really sorry about the confusion.
I came from a stock rooted, "unlocked" rom, it had CWM touch installed. Then I tried to install Hyperdrive.. Install went well via aroma.. But after reboot I got the verizon unauthorized error and I lost access to CWM Touch but I could go into download mode... Now here's where the confusion starts...
I tried to flash back to stock via Odin. Each and every single time it failed after a few files. Believe me I looked for a solution as in several solutions all of which failed until my last flash which also failed but installed a few more files before it failed and I dunno I got CWM Touch back.
Hence the reason why I'm asking if I could fix my phone via CWM because Odin is crazy and Heimdall is also picky.

So you can get into download mode just fine? You need to use a better USB cable and try a different port on your computer. It should be able to flash, but if you're using a lower quality cable than what came with the phone it might be your issue.
This guide should work if you can't get a normal flash back to stock work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030
Basically, the only other way I know of to go back to stock without a pc is to use mobile Odin, but that needs root access. There's no file you can flash in recovery to go completely back to stock as it will still leave you with a custom recovery installed.

I finally got into my rom, after flashing the first boot chain (vralec) Odin messed up again, couldn't flash the 2nd one nor root66 so I pulled my batt and I guess the first vralec gave me stock recovery n just let me boot into my rom, installed twrp and ez unlock 1.2 from there, rebooted into twrp and then installed TkROM.
Thanks for all the help.

[Q] Unrooted now can't root again

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3. I previously had my phone rooted and I unrooted it using the SuperUser app (maybe that was a mistake). Now I am trying to root it again and I have ClockworkMod installed, but when I try to flash the SuperSU_Bootloader_FIXED.zip in recovery from my sd card it says that it installs, but my phone isn't rooted when I reboot and I don't have the SuperUser app. I also tried using the casual root from d2vzw (which is how I rooted the first time) and that says the install completes but when I reboot my phone I am not rooted and I don't have the SuperUser app. Can I not root again after unrooting? Any help is appreciated.
These might help you
I think because you just root it using a third party device which is not actually integrated in the device. If I were you (just a suggestion, nevermind if you don't want to do it), I would flash [ROM][6/21] - Stock Rooted - 6/20/13 OTA! - VRBMF1 - 4.1.2 / Multi Window this to have the root access again. I didn't try it but based on the comments of the users, this was being helpful to them or actually you can try different custom rom but first as what developers says, you must unlock Bootloader of your device.
Note: I nor the one who created the thread that was given to you is not liable for your actions. All your actions are based to your mind and soul.
Use Odin to return to stock if need be, then use the Casual root/unlocker program. Then install KitKat

Quick Question

Finally tried gaining s-off with Firewater last night and got the whelp message so figure sunshine is only option. Just a quick question with respect to getting up to date. Should this be the order I proceed in:
1. Sunshine
2. Take OTA to get current firmware/radios
3. Flash TWRP via adb.
4. Install new ROM
Downloaded the new CleanROM last night but might wait a bit before going with it as daily. Oh, and does the OTA just do an update without a full wipe?

If you're going s-off there's no need to take the OTA...flash TWRP, flash the latest firmware and then flash a new rom and you're good to go. It's best to get in the habit of never taking an OTA.
Thanks. Don't think I've ever taken one other than on my work phone, just wasn't sure when I would be changing Rom to one with new base and firmware. Thought there might be some improvements with new radios and firmware until I switched.

You could flipflop 1 and 2 and let the OTA take care of the firmware for you then run sunshine since it works on 4.4.3
Should I uninstall sunshine after running it and gaining s-off?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
I've never used sunshine so I couldn't tell you for sure. But I don't think you need it anymore so I don't see the harm in removing it. You don't need it to get root back if you ever lose it, and if you were to lose S-OFF for whatever reason you'd still have to pay $25 regardless of you having it installed or not...so yeah lol
Makes sense. Btw, thought sunshine required root? If Weaksauce doesn't work in 4.4.3 how does sunshine gain root?

Will custom rom works in all countries or they available to all countries. .....unlike official roms

Ok , so plan to run through this tomorrow, just want to triple check I have the steps right(currently on 4.4.2 with Weaksauce)
1. Run Sunshine, obtain s-off
2. Take OTA (I know I could just flash firmware)
3. Flash TWRP via fastboot
4. Reboot into recovery, flash SuperSU
5. Run like this for a few days
6. When ready flash new ROM via TWRP

If your phone is on firmware 4.4.2 keep trying firewater and it will work. Dont open su just install it, and after doing the adb reboot open up weaksauce to make sure it shows your rooted I have found that is where the problem getting firewater to work lies.
If your getting root after the adb reboot then it will work on firmware 4.4.2, but if weaksause is not giving root after adb reboot then firewater will fail every time.
I have done many for people using firewater and it always wont work for me until I manually open waeksauce after you do the adb reboot and it reboots the phone.

Thanks. I've tried Firewater a few times w/o much luck. Tried it both w/ SuperSu and Superuser and had same results. Just retried it after opening the Weaksauce app but it did the same.
Do you know if the rest of the steps are correct if I have to use Sunshine?

Whatever you do DO NOT take an OTA. There's no reason for it and it may cause more trouble than it's worth.
Download and run Sunshine. Now you're S-off and bootloader unlocked.
Flash TWRP 2.8.0.1 in fastboot
Then go here, download and flash the 4.4.3 firmware and radios in fastboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159
Now you are ready to flash any 4.4.3 based custom rom like CleanROM 2.0
