You can use the shield controller if you want. Then whole point of console mode is to make the shield a console
that can connect controllers via bluetooth and play games at 1080p with 60fps. the only thing you can use
in console mode is the screen because it shuts off.
Great, thx for the info, and yes, the bluethoot controller will be great, but, since, most hdmi cables on argentina are 2mts and up, you can always use the shield with the cable And on a 23 inch pc display, the view distance it's not a problem
I tested in console mode over the weekend:
The shield's screen goes dark and audio turns off, but the controls and the touchscreen still work. Beach Buggy Blitz, for example, needs you to tap the touchscreen in places so, you're still able to play 'em in console mode.

Out of curiosity - COMPLETELY dark or is the backlight still on?
Also - if you have the HDMI cable connected, does the bootloader show on the TV or on the screen?
(If you're wondering why I'm asking - see my "white screen of death" post. It's now a black screen - backlight comes on but nothing displays. Fastboot mode works, including "fastboot boot" of CWM and ADBing in to pull a kernel dmesg.)

It doesn't look like the backlight is on, but the touchscreen is definitely working. Really weird to blind-tap somewhere on the screen

The bootsplash is definitely showing on the TV: I did not unlock my bootloader, however, so I haven't tested if something like recovery is showing on HDMI and/or the built-in screen.
I noticed that the newer firmware doesn't have the barely perceptible jump when the bootloader hands off to the bootsplash: in older firmwares, you could see that the screen flickered black, but I think NVIDIA decided to polish that one out. Either the flash is so short that you can't see it, or they keep the framebuffer stable during the handoff.
Hmm, I'm starting to think I have a display hardware failure then.
The device has a unlocked bootloader or the warranty voided? If yes, try to formar EVERY partition with fastboot and flash again every single image from the PC, I have a similar issue with a nexus 7 after an update, and I fix it this way, even a full factory reset from bootloader dont solve it, maybe a system or kernel broken part, I don't know, but this fixed it....

Did that issue include:
1) No display when in the bootloader?
2) No display when in a recovery image that used to have working display?
Nope :S Looks like you have a broken screen, or it have unpluged itself from the mobo...
Did anyone test a few BT controllers with the Shield? The official websites only lists a Nyko and some Moga controllers, but I would prefer to use my 360, PS3/4 or Wii U controller, because I already have them here.
I have a question.
I have a Philips full hd tv.
The console mode is not near 1080p seems to be at a lower resolution, looks like ****
I have all updates to date.
Anything I'm doing wrong?

Hello,
My phone was waterdamged and stop working completly.
I opened the case and tried to dry it.
after 48 hours of trying various stuff, there is blank screen, but:
1. The phone is booting fine, charging led is working.
2. Using Wondershare-Mobilego, i can backup all the content.
3.The touch interface seems to be working fine, i can see the menus via mobilego duplicate screen (can open the sms box or whatsapp and etc.)
4.Incoming messages keep coming...
I`m so frustrated that i`m using the phone blindly or like remote desktop.
Is it software of hardware fault?
THANKS

After water damage you can only expect hardware damage. to verify - when turning on the device, do you see anything on the screen? you can also reboot to bootloader (via the key combination or via the command adb reboot bootloader (and to reboot back to android use fastboot reboot).
If the bootloader shows nothing, 100% hardware (although there is really no need to check, probably is). You can try changing screen, but the problem could also be in the socket (but I think if it were the socket the phone would not even boot). Worth a try.
Thanks, but no good...still blank screen - no display.
As i mentioned, the phone is functioning well (as seen at duplicate screen).
When you offering to change screen, you mean the lcd touch digitizer only?
I don`t need to buy the screen itself, right?
(I can`t parse outside links yet from ebay)

I mean the LCD itself. If touch is working, the problem is the LCD itself, not the digitizer.
You right, it seems that the touch working fine.
You think that a LCD display screen replacement would be the best try? can you paste a link from ebay please?
So I was playing on my Shield last night and everything was working as should be. When I woke up, I started trying to play but noticed none of the controls were working... Only the "Back" and the "Home" buttons work... I have tried restoring the Shield, but that did not work (just made me lose all my apps...)

No, I left it off for a day or so and saw my uncle playing with the controller...
Same issue here.
This happens rarely for me whenever it happens I hold the shield button down until the shield powers off (I think it takes more than 10 seconds).
After booting usually controls are fine again.
If you're using the droidmote setup posted on these forums, make sure to switch from the droidmoteime setting.
Fixed
Badass. I had the same problem but that fixed it for me.

Yeah, I had problems with the anolog trigger on asphalt 8 and the new modern combat 5 guns don't shoot fully auto for me when I hold the trigger down all the way, but just right before all the way they start firing fully auto, BTW Xbox one class graphics you should check it out, and help me with h some changing the controller binding so the bumper is to shoot instead
NVIDIA SHIELD Controller not working on PC after update or charging. first of all make sure SHIELD controller is unplugged or power off. To connect your TV with controller, use NVIDIA button on the SHIELD controller. Click Here to show 5 basic solution from my side. I hope it will fix your issue.
My nvidia Shields screen messed up after a week of upgrading to lolipop and I am trying to bring it back to 4.4.2. The screen wasn't really damaged in example Water damage or being bent/smashed. The screen only works when you put it in a specific angle or open the lid and stop it at this one specific place which changes randomly. I am wondering what i have to do to flash the stock rom so it is back to normal. What are the steps and what do i need.
Edit: The screen doesn't display anything but black light. Is it possible to enable USB Debugging this way. Im not sure though, if I can browse the internal files of the shield through my laptop does that mean USB Debugging is enabled? And i cant start my shield into bootloader mode. when i type ADB Devices it shows the device and then says unauthorized.
Update: I was able to install update 72 for it which is kitkat but the screen is still black and is not working is it a hardware malfunction or is it just dead the keys and things are still responsive. Is there any place I can send it in for repairs in the U.S. Or can I fix it myself.
My phone's screen was broken, so the touch sensor (capacitive) sensing constant phantom touches, which prevents to do anything with it, even with mouse connected on OTG.
I can't connect on ADB, as once i've allowed my PC to always connect to it, yet asks for a confirmation at every connect, which i can't grant, as if i unlock the phone with fingerprint, the phantom fingers instantly tap the dialog away.
I can connect with fastboot, but it's useless.
My next idea is to disconnect the screen ribbon cable (xiaomi "engineers" were so smart that the display and the digitizer are on same cable... which is weird, as redmi 7 had seperate cables and this redmi note 7 have one), and buy an MHL type-c -> HDMI-OTG adapter, and connect it to TV, and the mouse, then i can access my files... however i doubt that it will work
Any tips how to hack it or something? I'm thinking about that it maybe possible to electronically disable, or "burn out" the touch sensor without disconnecting the screen ribbon. Is that possible? Perhaps the cleaning of screen would kill the phantom?
Any help?
I would like to help you but never had to deal with such a problem.
But let's try:
1. What do you want to achieve? Do you want to backup your data?
2. The phantom touches are instantly and do not stop?
3. Don't know if that works, but... Is the mouse connected to OTG always on the same place? Like does it appear on a fix default position on your screen every time you plug it in or does it remember its last position (or is it random)?
If you know that you could maybe try to detach the display and use the mouse to enable your adb connection constantly. And if that works you could use scrcpy (screencopy. Find it on github) to show your devices display on your computer without having to use your real smartphone display.

Its a quite common problem, however the most people just buy a new phone, and dump the broken one.
I want to backup one application's data particularly, yes.
Phantom touches are constant, always at the menu buttons.
I cant connect otg mouse and to adb at the same time... 1 usb only.
Why cant i just authrnticate myself through adb?

I don't know. What exactly happens if you try that?
You connect your phone with your computer and run some adb command (e.g. "adb devices") and then it asks you to authenticate, right?
And then?
Another question which I think you'll answer with "no": Did you unlock your bootloader?
I just cant do it, and didnt fide any help for it on google.
If i connect it, and list the adb devices, i see "unauthorized" and a dialog pops up on the phone to allow adb connection, but as soon as i unlock the phone the dialog goes away as the phantom touching the menu buttons...
No, the bootloader is not unlocked, else if would be able to save with twrp. I can unlock it with fastboot, but it does a factory reset on unlock...

Yes, that won't be helpful.

I have another idea. If you refer to the menu buttons you refer to the home, back buttons right? If your phone support it (and phantom touches allow it) you can go to setting -> System -> Gestures -> System navigation -> gesture navigation. Then click on the setting next to "gesture navigation" and turn of navigation hint.
Whatever those phantom touches are touch now – it won't be any of those menu buttons since they disappeared.
Now, hopefully adb authorization works.

As i wrote, i cant do anything on UI, as the phantom always touch back to the menu, or to the photo app, which i cant even pull out from quick access due to the phantom.
Having a ghost touch issue, it's probably not a problem with the software, but it's a hardware problem with your display and the way it's housed inside the chassis of your phone. If you're an engineer and happy taking electronic devices apart ( and have all the required specialty tools ), then you might fix the issue by simply disconnecting the screen from its data connectors for a while and then reseating the screen.

It's very hard to do anyting on phone anything blindly...
Hey, so my phone's screen recently broke, and it was still working perfectly in Samsung DeX mode. However, I made the mistake of disabling it because something I wanted to do required normal screen mirroring. Now, when I plug the phone through HDMI, I see a padlock on the screen, which normally requires me to enter my pattern to unlock the phone and have the screen mirror normally (but the screen and seemingly touch aswell are broken).
- Samsung S20 FE
- USB Debugging is disabled, so i cant use scrcpy
- I am able to feel vibrations when using a mouse, so maybe there would be a way to enter it blindly, but the pattern is too complex for me to do that
- I don't think I have a normal PIN but I don't recall, some people said pressing space twice on a keyboard then entering it could help, no luck
- I'm was able to see the device once in sideload mode, probably through recovery mode? (screenshot below)
- I currently see the device as unauthorized (2nd screenshot)
I'm pretty much open to any way of doing this, even disabling the pin would be okay.
Thanks in advance!
Managed to fix this using a windows drawing pen, finding where the dots for the patterns are located with vibration, and mapping them on a piece of paper.
another way would be connect TV or monitor with HDMI adapter and connect usb mouse / keyboard

The thing is, the pattern doesn't show on the external display.
All you see is a grey screen with a padlock and the time.
If you have a PIN though, that does work cause you just have to hit space twice, type it in then hit enter. Easy even if you can't see.
