[Q] DroidNAS "Connection Failed" - General Questions and Answers

So this is admittedly a pretty vague issue. Until now i've been able to use the app DroidNas to transfer files with my Macbook. Randomly today, when I go to my device (Verizon HTC one) in Finder, it tells me "Connection Failed" almost immediately. They're both on the same wifi network, and as far as a I can tell I haven't changed any settings that would affect the network connectivity of my phone. I tried using a clean hosts file, in case maybe adaway was causing the problem, but no dice.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is / any troubleshooting ideas?

i'm having the same issue with a similar app called samba filesharing for android.

you probably updated to mavericks here is what to do:
OS X Mavericks workaround:
Press Cmd+K in Finder and enter IP address AND share:
smb://IP_ADDRESSort/Share
for example:
smb://192.168.1.2:7777/SD Card

Thank you! I had even tried /Downloads and /Music to get to my Nexus 10 but only /SD Card gave me access to everything I needed.

Could you explain, why this happened. Why we need to do it ? Why the developer didn't address those problems ? Thank you in advance

Doesn't seem to work, it keeps saying connecting to server on my mac...

Am i supposed to type in the address they gave on the droid nas app or my internet ip address? Everytime i type in the droid nas adress it gives, it just keeps saying connecting to server the eventually says it failed because it either doesn't exist or anymore or something of that sort.

You'll want to use the address it gives you and add the "/SD Card" or any other folders that you have shared. I also have only had success connecting as a guest, so you might want to delete anything out of your keychain with username/password for your android device. Hope this helps.

Droid Nas -43
I get an erreor -43 when I try to copy or create a new folder. Can some one help me resolve this issue. I am running maveriks on my imac seca 2008. I would like to purchase the product but it seems to need more work interms of a how too for us nubies.

You need to add the path of your ext SD on Droid NAS first. Tab and hold 'SD Card', you will get a new menu to add a new path. Choose a name and define the path of your ext SD. Now use the name you chose for smb.

Anyone got this working with Yosemite?? Im using a Xpera Z3, no root and a MacBook Pro with Yosemite and I cant get it to work.
Ive deleted all the standard shares besides SD CARD and made a new one with only the internal space. I need more OsX Yosemite help

Resco Explorer Networking (map drive) problem :(

Hi All,
I'm trying to map network drive using the Resco Explorer, however Resco does not see the SAMBA (3.2.5) shares
There is nothing in sambas log suggesting the HD2 is trying to connect.
I had no problems with wm6.1 but on my 6.5.x it doesn't work.
I was searching the forum but couldn't find the answer. Anyone has an idea? Maybe someone managed to solve this?
maybe this?

instead of COMPUTER\DISK, try this: \\COMPUTER\SharedDocs (=name of the shared folder on my pc)
this works with me, good luck!

Yep, I did exactly this the other day.
Resco doesn't see samba shares directly (like a windows PC would see them in my network places or whatever), so you have to tell Resco the location.
I have an ubuntu server called "ubuntu", and my shares are "music", "photos" and so on. To get resco to see the shares I typed:
\\ubuntu\music
\\ubuntu\photos
etc...
Note, it wont work based on IP addresses (that was what originally caused my problem).
To find out your PC name (if you don't know it) on a windows machine, hold the windows key, hit pause break, and then click on computer name (this is for XP).
Cheers.
blog post about this very subject
I got it too sometimes. I dont know the reason tho.
But hey it is so easy to set it up manually.
It is longer but will work anyways. Try the method the guy 2 posts above me posted with \\COMPUTERNAME\SHAREDFOLDER
WIll work if you are in the same network.
Ah and make sure not to connect via mobile network but with WiFi as then you are not in the same net.
Thanks all of you!
It works at least partially...
Works for shares without password, doesn't work for password protected shares. When i put \\computer\myshare and then press ok then I'm asked for user name and password. As soon as I fill them in the application freezes (maybe it tries to connect?) I gave it 5 minutes and then I had to reset HD2
Strange problem
I reinstalled resco but no improvements.
Thanks again
Yeah i noticed that one too.
Do not use pass protection on shares.
It must be a bug in the Resco Explorer.
Before i thought i made a fault but i never tried it out again as i assume a freeze as not too good for the device LOL
I'm not sure where the problem is. I tried the same on P3600 (trinity) with wm6.5. It does not freeze, but is re-asking for credentials, so I guess there are two problems:
1) resco on hd2 freezes (probably when the resco cannot connect - bug)
2) authentication problem?
Probably I'll skip the password protection until someone will find the solution...
Works fine here. It sees the shares on my XP machine, but not on the 2 Win7 ones so I have to enter them manually for those. All 3 have password protection.
On one of the W7 machines it "freezes" for about 10 seconds the first time I access the share after a soft reset, for the others it comes instantly. But that particular volume is huge (a 80% full 1.5TB drive) so it might have to do with it if it lists the contents, the others only have like 30GB on them.
You might want to try menu->settings, if you have data active as well as wifi then uncheck autodetection, and delete the network entry (or entries) that aren't your local wifi.
It can happen that it finds nothing or hangs if it tries searching the cell provider's network (that can have tons of hosts) instead of your local one.

Yes - no problem for windows, I'm struggling with SAMBA (linux) shares.
Fixed freezing/credential issues when mapping drives on my HD2
Hi guys,
I had the same problem of my HTC HD2 freezing in the Network Log On dialogue when trying to map a drive, and also the issue where I was repeatedly asked for credentials which would never save. I managed to solve this issue, though in my case the problem was actually due to the network share settings on my NAS device (which is a QNAP TS-109).
What I did to remedy my problem was:
Go to the Administration page through the web-based interface for my TS-109.
Go to the Access Right Management menu.
Go to the Share Folders section.
Click on the Access Control icon for the folder I wanted to map.
Under the Guest Access Right drop-down menu I changed Deny Access to Read Only.
After that I was able to log in with my admin username and password, and to save the mapped drive on my HTC HD2 (I mapped drives successfully using both Resco File Explorer 2010 and HTC Network Plugin 1.0).
Hopefully this will work for anyone else experiencing this problem with a QNAP NAS, or if not then hopefully following similar steps on your NAS will yield favourable results.
Kate.
I am using HD2 with a Qnap NAS . Initially , got problem mapping drive as described by previous post . I did not do any changes on NAS . But , in the resco password page , i uncheck permanent login . Seems did the trick . Able to mapped folder on the NAS , even Hidden folders also . Hope this helps .

I've post this in Resco Explorer Forum, just yesterday:
Re: File Explorer hangs when mapping Network Drive on WM 6.5
First, excuse me for my bad english (I'm italian).
I think to be solved the bug in this mode (I've a Netgear STORA NAS):
- select "Work" instead of "Internet settings" in wi-fi network adapter
- select "Work" instead of "Internet settings" in your wi-fi connection
Now, I can succesfully map all my shared resources and add them in "My Network", but I can't use wi-fi to connect in Internet.
So I've revert both the above settings to "Internet settings" ad all it's ok, browsing in Internet and accessing to my network folder on NAS.
I think that the bug is present only when we try to map a network folder the first time.
I hope to be useful to solve our problem.
Bye
Although last post is long time ago, and mine is too recent. yet I hope it would be useful to somebody, and be able to repay the great advantages I myself got from XDA forum.
HardwareC with Win7 Home Prem, HTC HD2 with RescoExplorer v.8, Wifi Connection
first, as most of the posts, I can see PC while mapping in RescoExplorer.
yet when expanding the +, I had to enter username and password, then I get an error.
well, what I did is that I shared a folder with everyone full access on my PC.
then on resco mapping I typed the full path, i.e. \\computername\sharedfolder
then, I got it...
NOTE: when exiting Resco, and accessing the mapped folder, I still had to enter my windows username and password to access my PC shared folder that has no password...
Thus, I think when sharing a folder with a password, Resco goes nuts. for two passwords must be applied...

[VIDEO GUIDE] Wireless file transfer between Android and PC (FTP Method)

*** Update ***
The app used in this guide been removed from the Play Store by the developer.
However, he has kindly granted me permission to share the apk with you
directly. You can find it attached to the bottom of this post!

Hi everyone,
I've put together an 8 minute video guide that demonstrates how (using an FTP
server) you can transfer files between your Phone and a computer over a WiFi
home network (natively through Windows explorer).
I've tried to make it fairly beginner friendly and its available in all resolutions including 1080p:
You can view the video full size here: http://youtu.be/5EV9PfPXbz8
HELP & FAQ:
Applying the tutorial to an older Windows OS:
Windows Vista:
As far as I can recall, the method shown in my video should be virtually (if not completely) identical for Windows Vista Users. If you think I've missed something though, please let me know and I'll update accordingly.
Windows XP:
Mapping the Android FTP Server location in Windows XP should also work just fine. However, I don't think you can access the "add new network location" wizard in the manner shown in the video at 03:30 (I could be wrong). From memory - I believe you need to do the following instead:
a) Open 'My Computer' from the start menu or desktop shortcut
b) From the 'TOOLS' menu select 'MAP NETWORK DRIVE'
c) Click the link "Sign up for Online Storage or Connect to a Network Server"
d) Select "Choose a custom Network Location"
e) I think this should bring you pretty much back in line with the video at 03:45
Mac OS:
I'm not a Mac expert, but perhaps you can try the following...
Follow the video up to the point where I switch over to my PC (03:15), then try this on your Mac:
a) Press Command+K to launch the “connect to server” dialogue
b) Enter the Wifi/FTP URL from the phone app into the address field
c) Click on the “+” icon if you want to save as a favourite
d) Press Connect
e) Enter your Username and Password when prompted & press connect again
f) You should then be able to browse the contents of your phone as a local folder.
g) Rejoin video at 06:50
Web Browser:
Although the aim of this video is to avoid having to use a web browser, you can enter the 'WiFi URL' generated by the Android App (visible at 03:05) into the address bar of any FTP enabled web browser (eg. Firefox / Internet Explorer).
TROUBLESHOOTING
Worked Initially, then stopped:
If you were initially successful in getting everything to work, but some time later you find that you can't connect - this may be related to your router's DHCP configuration. Some routers allocate IP addresses on a dynamic/time lease basis. If your router is configured in this way, your phone's IP address may change every time it re-connects to your local network (thus invalidating the WiFi URL that we copied from your phone during the tutorial). If this is the case, you'll need to refer to your router's documentation and try to assign a static IP to your phone.
Error 550 (CHMOD):
If this error crops up immediately upon trying to access a location on your phone (eg. a sub folder), you have probably entered an invalid path in the "Stay Within Folder" field during the app configuration. Double check the path that you entered and make sure that you didn't accidentally deleted the preceding slash (/) too.
If this error only appears when trying to delete or move files, it could be a couple of things. Do check the steps mentioned in the above paragraph, but also remember what I mentioned in the video about avoiding paths that act as a shortcut to another folder. For example, don't enter "/sdcard" in the "Stay Within Folder" field during configuration of the app. On my phone, this results in read only access to the MicroSD card. I found that I needed to specify the full path (eg. "/mnt/sdcard") to obtain full Read/Write access.
Invalid Handle Error:
This error may occur when trying to move or delete files from your phone. If so:
1) Double check (in the FTP server setup on your phone) that you haven't added a trailing slash (/) after the path specified in the "Stay Within Folder" field.
2) You can also get this error if you start the FTP server, then launch an app that needs access to the folder containing the files you want to move or delete (eg. The Camera / gallery app). Simply exiting the app may solve this. If not:
a) exit your app
b) Stop the FTP server using the home screen widget
c) Restart the FTP server using the home screen widget
d) try again before launching your app.
No WIFI URL:
If you start the FTP server but don't receive a Wifi URL, double check that your phone's WiFi connection is turned on. This may sound obvious, but it could be an easy one to overlook.
Firewall Issues:
If you're convinced that you have everything set up correctly but you simply can't connect to the server - a firewall could be the cause of your problems..
If you're not familiar with firewalls, you may want to disconnect from the internet and temporarily disable your firewall completely to see if this solves your problem. If it does, at least you'll have a starting point. If not, you may need to look a little closer at any filtering rules on your router.
Unfortunately I can't help troubleshoot every possible combination, but generally speaking, you should double check that your internal network is configured as a trusted zone and that there are rules allowing (or no rules blocking) traffic on the required port ip / address etc. For example, 'ESET Smart Security' users will probably want to pay specific attention to the 'Network Filtering' options.
Good luck.

Regarding AOKP 4.0.4, are you using a Galaxy SII / Nexus? If so, I think I've heard about people having trouble with widgets before. I think you have to drag them out of the widget draw instead. Does that make sense?

Hmm.. In that case I'm afraid I really don't know. Unfortunately I've never tested AOKP, so I don't have any first hand experience to go on.
Off the top of my head, my suggestion would be to try widgets from several other market apps and see if any of them act in the same way. I realise that won't solve your problem, but it could go some way towards establishing the source of it.
Best of luck,

Thanks for your suggestion.
I’ve actually used AirDroid before, but while it is a great app in its own right - its file management capabilities only seem to go as far as letting you export stuff from your MicroSD card in a zip archive.
The method I show in the video is certainly more cumbersome initially (hence the reason for making it), but I find the end result more functional for simply copying/moving/deleting files.

Es file explorer sharing problem

Hi, have been trying to share content on a Seagate freeagent external drive and access it with es on my transformer, so far no luck. I should mention that I have the drive plugged into a pogoplug device that works just fine withe the app provided but doesn't allow you to copy folders back and forth. So I figured try out es, can anyone tell me how to configure es to see the drive? Or even if its possible. Many thanks for Any help submitted. I did give es the IP of the drive/pogoplug but no luck.

I had to go into the control panel of the router and set permissions for access to the drive..
Then transfer this log in name and password into Es explorer, plus of course the i.p..

Thanks for your reply, I will dive in there and see if I can do anything with my router. I could be back.

what i can suggest is you connect your drive to your pc and share it then use ES, go to lan and connect to your pc and then you should be able to see your shared drive.
if you are on a mac i cant tell you how to share it,
so if you using a windows machine,
you can go to my computer -> right click on the external drive and select the sharing.
next you just have to find out what your private ip is.
you can do this by pressing the windows key + "r"
a window will pop up, type "cmd" then click "ok"
a black window pops up then you type "ipconfig"
a bunch of adaptors will show up just look for the words
IPv4 address...: 192.168.1.200 (it'll be in the format xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa)
once you got that you can use ES to go explore the share drive
click on the Lan tab, if it's not showing go to setting to enable it.
click new ->server ( you can try scan but sometimes doesnt work)
under server type in the ip address of your pc the one you just found.
fill in the user name and password of your pc. then you are good to go.
you should then be able to see all your shared folders on your pc including the shared external drive.
Or you can just get a NAS and that would make data sharing within your home network so much easier.

Is their a way to make a network share with android?

Is it possible to create something like a windows share folder with android so i can use my tablet with dock as sort of a laptop. I can access files from windows shares and from my server share (which is not windows) but it doesnt go the other way. I would also like to be able to transfer files to my GS3 Mobile from my transformer.
Right now my pc is in the shop and my trasformer is basically my new laptop as my last one just died and my desktop is in the shop (i dont want to get into it but i basically should have built my own desktop this time i didnt anyway...)
So yeah is it possible? other than say dropbox as currently thats the only type i can find to do such a thing. But i want more of a network share.
Any help would be appreciated.

If your tablet is rooted you could use "Samba Filesharing" app to share your SD as a windows network drive.
I don't know any apps that can do that without root priviliges though.
Another option would be sharing the SD content through an FTP server (I have no recommendations for specific programs though).

menu button -> settings -> Other Fileshare Settings -> Second Shared Folder is probably what you're looking for.
only caveat is that it only allows sharing of extra sd cards with vfat formatting, so it was a no go with my 64GB but worked fine with the 16GB I have.
I'm using an app called 'FTP Server'. Free and simple to use. Your android device will act as an FTP server once the 'button' is activated. Use a FTP client on Windows to enter the address, username and password. There's also a method of setting up a new network (via 'add a new network') to appear as a folder when opening up 'Computer' to see the list of your drives. However, I don't like that being visible all the time, hence the reason I just connect via a FTP client.
The only downside is that FTP isn't that secure. SFTP and FTPS is meant to be more secure. I don't know the specifics, maybe someone else with more knowledge can help inform you. I reckon it's fine for activating, transferring some files, then turning off.

MX-Player: Local Network error

Hello
I tried the free version of MX Player (the last one on Play Store). I tried to access to my Popcorn Hour byt entering IP address, login and pass... but got all time an error: unable to resolve host name. I tried with simple IP like 192.168.1.6, I tried with \\192.168.1.6, with SMB:\\192.168.1.6 but nothing work.
Is there something I do wrong or is it a bug?
Thank you for any advise.
Regards
Nobody got his error or nobody succeeded in connect?
I am struggling with the same issue.
Tried already with two NAS devices. On shares with authorization and without.
No success.
Always getting error. There is also no documentation about that function.
Please add on webpage documentation how data should be entered. Simple image example would be enought.
Using latest Pro version from google play.
Found this article https://androidpctv.com/tutorial-samba-on-android-connection-with-windows-and-alternatives/ where they wrote that MX Player supports only SMB v1 which is by default turned off on current NAS devices as it is not secure. So this function seems to be useless then in most cases.

I succeded it! if theres a problem I am seeing in your case is that you are using \\ instead of //.
even though windows files system uses backslash, but the network uses the front slash.
just confirm the IP of the host machine on the network, if your computer is password protected then login with the user name listed in "C:\users\" directory and the password for the following user! if this wont work just try check right setting in the "network and sharing centre" and the permission of the folder you want to share. Folder and entire Drive permissions are slightly different, so try the permission set to everyone! this will definately work. example "smb://192.168.1.6" is the right format for the server.
