Is there any new way? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has there been any way developed to unlock the bootloader for phones who are on 9.18.79.XT926?

Sigh.... thanks! If only i could turn back time....

The reason is because the way that was available before the latest ota was done via an exploit (aka security hole) in the code for the phone. Once he ota came out, it patched that exploit which means rolling back won't help. Once it's patched, the exploit is gone forever. Only if you unlocked before the patch would you be able to stay unlocked after the ota.

Yesterday I bought a Droid Razr HD and see that phone has the 9.20.1.XT926 version.
I guess I'm in a worse situation to unlock the bootloader...

No rot found yet for that update. Always smarter to wait and make sure you can keep root before updating. Or at the very least try using OTA rootkeeper prior to updating.

loose it, call your insurance, hope they send you an outdated refurbished one, if not, donate the one you're going to loose to development and keep the refurbished one )... just kidding!
Possible Fix
Shouldn't he just be able to flash back to stock ICS (With MattlGroff's Utility) and attain root, then re-update?

Bootloader unlocked! So there may be a way soon enough to get back root or to downgrade from 4.1.2.
Impossible!! Is it really a sure thing? If so Djrbliss is a freaking GENIUS! How did he do it. Sold his soul in return?

Lock The Bootlader After Unlocking

if you took a bootloader unlocked HD and used SBF then you would have a locked bootloader again ???

good question. My guess would be no. Hopefully since there is a root method for 4.1.2 someone will try and let us know...
it made sense to me that if would lock it again since its not a hardware based unlock and SBF sets it to factory. i know they can relock a bootloader with an OTA so why not a SBF?

we need someone wiser then us

No, SBF will not relock the bootloader. The unlock method for all consumer HD's blows the QFuse, once it's blown it cannot be unblown.
Meaning your device cannot be re-locked. After I unlocked I SBF'd back to ICS, just to start fresh, before loading up CM 10.1. Hope this answers your question.
thanks for the answer. was hoping it would lock it back. ooh well.

for one youll always have a way to root your phone. Fastbooting twrp/cwm means you can flash su even if moto blocks existing exploits. That in itself is good enough for me.
Apparently, the guy who discovered the unlock also answered this: no, it can never be relocked. Unlocking blows a QFuse on the phone that can never be unblown given the physical nature of the fuse.
I'll tell you how, maybe a week or 3 from now, AT&T and Motorola will finish bloating up there update and use some excuse such as security to re lock the bootloader.

There is no way for moto or anyone to re-lock our bootloaders once they are unlocked. The only thing that can happen now is that Moto can make an update that can prevent us from unlocking/rooting if the new phone comes with this new firmware or we take the ota without being rooted and/or unlocked. No firmware patch/upgrade can re-lock once unlocked...
A few people on the atrix forums says otherwise. It makes me think, but Motorola would be wrong to do that now that they're owned by Google.

[Q] Installed update....no root!

I went back to stock. Hit the wrong button and installed the update. Now I am not rooted and hate everything!!! Any idea how long before I can root this poor phone so I don't hate everything about it and on it?:crying:
There's a good chance there won't be another exploit found. This Is thy you have to protect root.

Rsd lite is a Motorola program used to flash xml files.
I was wrong, it wasn't droidrzr.com, it was right here on xda.

realbbb is a very sharp guy and former Bionic owner who went through all of the "Cheescake" leaked update issues we had with that device while Motorola was struggling with the baseband firmware in the early rollout of VZW's LTE network.
This workaround is a version of the method we used when you got stuck on a non upgradeable test leak and had to revert to a prior version to move forward.
It is exactly the sort of creative thinking that is required in situations like this when you find yourself stuck by unforeseen circumstances.
This can easily and safely be tested by anyone who is currently on the update and has lost root, since the full XML.zip was released shortly after the update went live last week.

Check out development forum. Lots of info in there, but I don't think so. How'd you get back to previous version? Maybe the exploit fix sticks. I hate all this preventives to keep us from unlocking bootloader. If we want to void our warranty let us. These phones arent cheep and android is open source. BS
If it had the new update you can't unlock the bootloader. You can roll back for root like you did but that's it.

Need some help guys, been a while since I've done this.

Bit of background...I've had Android phones since the OG Droid. All of them were rooted. The phone I have now is the Razr HD which I've never rooted. Guess I just got out of the game for a while. I want to root it now but unfortunately, it's been so long since I've been around the forums that I don't really know what anything is anymore or what does what.
I'm sure this has been asked before but every search I do, I come up with stuff that I don't understand. Can someone help out?
Phone is running 4.4.2
System version: 183.46.15.XT926
Thanks!
If your boot loader is locked, you can't do anything.

Abstract: you wanna root your Motorola Razr HD (xt925) ?
You can't go anymore with the "gentle procedure" - which is using Motochopper, a way to root the 4.1.2 without tearing apart your phone.
So either you go back with a stock 4.1.2 and live happily with motochopper and a slow sys, or you follow Motorola instructions to unlock the phone. Be aware that once you enter the code Motorola will provide you'll void your warranty (if you still are under the grace period).

You need to stop putting bad info out there, this unlock only works on the 925. The system version he shows is FW for the 926. You can't unlock the 926 via Moto.

The 925 is the GSM variant and is unlockable through Moto. The 926 is the CDMA model that is typically used on Verizon and it's not unlockable through Moto.

Hi, RikRong. I'm also new to this XT926 and on the latest firmware I guess (183.46.15.xt926), is there's any new way to unlock bootloader and root this device? I read an old instruction in another post and just bought this device and now I'm so screwed over .
