good question. My guess would be no. Hopefully since there is a root method for 4.1.2 someone will try and let us know...

it made sense to me that if would lock it again since its not a hardware based unlock and SBF sets it to factory. i know they can relock a bootloader with an OTA so why not a SBF?

we need someone wiser then us

No, SBF will not relock the bootloader. The unlock method for all consumer HD's blows the QFuse, once it's blown it cannot be unblown.
Meaning your device cannot be re-locked. After I unlocked I SBF'd back to ICS, just to start fresh, before loading up CM 10.1. Hope this answers your question.

thanks for the answer. was hoping it would lock it back. ooh well.

for one youll always have a way to root your phone. Fastbooting twrp/cwm means you can flash su even if moto blocks existing exploits. That in itself is good enough for me.

Apparently, the guy who discovered the unlock also answered this: no, it can never be relocked. Unlocking blows a QFuse on the phone that can never be unblown given the physical nature of the fuse.

I'll tell you how, maybe a week or 3 from now, AT&T and Motorola will finish bloating up there update and use some excuse such as security to re lock the bootloader.

There is no way for moto or anyone to re-lock our bootloaders once they are unlocked. The only thing that can happen now is that Moto can make an update that can prevent us from unlocking/rooting if the new phone comes with this new firmware or we take the ota without being rooted and/or unlocked. No firmware patch/upgrade can re-lock once unlocked...

A few people on the atrix forums says otherwise. It makes me think, but Motorola would be wrong to do that now that they're owned by Google.

Sadly, I haven't found anything related to unlocking the bootloader in the boot image.
This is the fxz for the chinese ME865, one would be crazy to flash it to one's american MB865 (though I would be interested in the results )
Shouldn't it still work even though it is the Chinese FXZ. Although you might need a translator to work your phone right LoL

Yeah I was just joking around about the language LoL. But with all said and done right now we would flash using RSD lite correct. Could this be made into a flashable zip that we could use with our bootstrap?

Thinking about flash it on my, Cuz AT&T version doesnt have Chinese display. That made some of my apps can't work right
Anybody flash it yet? I'm restraining myself from doing it, because I feel there's a chance it may have the unlock for the bootloader, If memory serves me correctly, it was from a leaked China based firmware for the ATRIX, that revealed the unlock for the OG ATRIX. I maybe mixing it up with the Photon, but who knows.

With the original Atrix there were some issues with international builds not commpatible with USA builds, and there were some bricks along the way. There were even bricks with trying to roll back firmware after the gingerbread update. Patience for me, I am not ready to brick mine.
You can flash just the boot loader if interested... I would but I am working on another bootloader hack to break the current bootloader open, or I would flash just the bootloader, that is one thing that can be tried.... Who still has time on their 30 day return left, that wants to try this:
using the android SDK run the following using the boot.img from this Chinese image
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then boot into the boot loader with holing the volume down buttom while powering the phone on
Then
fastboot oem unlock ( this should give you output that gives your id )
fastboot oem unlock #### ( the ####'s are the uid you recieved from the command above ).
Then reboot the phone. You may have to erase your userdata with:
fastboot erase userdata
Hopefully you won't have to do this...
This might be worth a try.

Could this be ics? Bootloaders unlocked?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk
Do you have a link that you can share?
No. The Chinese update to fix the -75dB issue is 2.3.6.
Also it breaks the root method but supposedly it's possible to keep root with an app "OTA Rootkeeper".
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the Chinese bootloader is unlocked.
(poking around here with machine translations can be... unclear )
Saw a story on there that Motorola engineers were actually dispatched to the poster's house to test the fixed baseband with the customer.
I wish we could get that kind of service in the USA.

Yes, you can root your phone. Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are two different things. If you're on the latest update, you won't be able to unlock anyway. If your BL isn't unlocked, you won't be able to use any of the 4.3 based ROMs. I don't think there have been any developed for use on SafeStrap.
If your on the new update you can't unlock your bootloader. Which means the best you'll get get is debloated stock roms.

Debloated stock just means is the Verizon builds, just with some of the extra software taken out and tweaked. It's not like cyanogen mod which had more options and tweaks. But with a locked bootloader its the best your gonna get.

However, you can use Xposed Framework to do a lot of modding/tweaking to a stock ROM. I am running a custom ROM, but I still use Xposed for a lot of things. You can theme your stock ROM in ways that are very similar to having a theme manager on AOSP ROMs.

Which is why I said if you haven't unlocked the bootloader.
Once it's unlocked, it's unlocked. You can't lock it back up because apparently, it's a physical change in the phone, such as a fuse being blown or something like that. At least, that's what I've read. http://blog.azimuthsecurity.com/2013/04/unlocking-motorola-bootloader.html
Apparently, it's something Qualcomm has created called a QFuse. These are software programmable fuses that once blown, they can NEVER be put back to their prior state. In Motorola devices, there is a FORCE_TRUSTED_BOOT QFuse. This is all explained by Dan Rosenburg who is the developer that gave us the ability to unlock our Droid RAZR HDs. it's a good read and explains a lot.
Of course, it never hurts to try and unlock it after downgrading back to the previous version.

doesn't hurt but is 100% pointless, as the system version has nothing to do with the trust zone files that cant be changed back.
the system version serves as a reference point to when it used to be possible in relation to the other files that were irrevocably updated, nothing more.

Droid Razr HD bootloader (9.18.94)

Hey guys, I have a Motorola Droid Razr HD, 9.18.94.XT926.
Recently there was found an exploit for this version to gain root access. So I did it (using method for samsung galaxy s3, which i found here). Now I do have root access, but I'm interested if I can install custom roms, for example cyanogenmod. As far as I know it needs unlocked bootloader. I'm not sure if my bootloader is unlocked or not, so I cant risk just following instructions from cyanogenmod's website.
So, my question is, how do i check if bootloader is unlocked or not, and if it's not, how do I unlock it, given that when downloading Android SDK from motorola website, where I tried to unblock bootloader, I cant install it, archive is broken or something. Thanks in advance (Sorry for the bad English)
I you're on .94 and never unlocked, you won't be able to now. To check, boot into AP Fastboot and see if says locked or unlocked.

Look up "safe-root."
So I read up on it...If I'm not horribly mistaken(which is very possible) that root only works for android 4.2 and 4.3 which means that I'd need the OTA for 9.30.1 which my droid doesn't think I need.

.94 and .1 are the same update, just different designations. The HD has never made it past 4.1 in stock form yet, so there is no 4.2 or 4.3. Safe Root will work on your system version.

I have an XT926 Maxx HD. Stock. Locked bootloader.
Three days ago, I rooted, installed Safestrap and ROM'd with Nexesque v3.6. All using instructions here on XDA. Root and Safestrap were simple. Getting the ROM loaded was a bit of a challenge, but it worked fine, except for a google.process.gaaps failure message upon rebooting each time. But it doesn't seem to affect anything. But other than that, runs quite quick. Tried RageHD and it didn't work for me at all. Could just be my phone.

[Q] OTA 186.43.15 Let's Lay This Question To Rest...

...As I'm sure many others like me will visit this forum, read guide disclaimers, and still ask themselves "is it really true??"
If we accept the latest OTA (186.43.15) WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader, we are screwed. There is absolutely, positively, nothing that can be done (hacking, version rollback, etc.) with the phone forever. The bootloader has been locked and we're stuck with what we've got. No way to unlock it now.
So, is it really true? Please say it ain't so.
Yes, it is true, at least with the Motopocalypse method. There are other ways to bootloader unlock phones such as Sunshine, but I think that only supports newer Motorola devices.
http://theroot.ninja/
Also, you have to be rooted. If Towelroot doesn't work on the latest OTA (no idea if it does or not) then you'd have to wait for a new exploit.
Thanks for the reply.
What's most frustrating about this is that I knew it was coming, I knew the bootloader was going to be locked by the next OTA but I was too nervous to unlock the bootloader and possibly brick my wifes phone in the process. She would be pissed.
The system update notifier kept bugging her and I kept telling her to not to do it and eventually she just she went ahead with it. Ugh.

Forget another bootloader unlock exploit. That was a once-in-a-lifetime chance. As for root, well, there might be, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Of course, that's what we all said when the first KK OTA came out and look what they gave us - Towelroot AND bootloader unlock, but the bootloader unlock was a mistake - they accidentally reverted part of the code back to the original exploit code. So, that was a mistake on Moto's part.
But, this latest OTA is the last OTA for this phone. No more updates from Moto so don't expect the bootloader exploit to show up again.

That's what I was afraid of. Same thing happened on my Droid X once updated to the last build of 2.3.4
I guess the bottom line is this: I don't care that much about the final KK build as much as I care about wifi hotspot tethering. That's really what I'm after. After her phone was updated to KK from JB it killed the tethering app that we were using. So my only recourse was to flash the phone back to JB. But I just didn't have the time to mess with it, plus it's my wife's phone and I didn't want to risk bricking it.
Near as I can tell, after quite a bit of searching, I don't have any way to fix tethering with this latest build. I'll ask the question in the Q&A section.

Exactly what version of KK is she on? If she's still on 183.46.10, then that allows the bootloader to be unlocked which will then allow you to root it and then apply a tethering hack.
If, however, you are on 183.46.14 or 183.46.15, then yes, you are hosed and cannot revert back to 183.46.10 or JB.

She actually hasn't been happy with her XT926, so I think I might just buy a used phone of the same generation and mod it. If successful, we'll just swap the hacked one onto her account. I'm thinking Galaxy S3? I'd be curious to know what the "most hackable" phone of that generation is (JB or early KK)? Or should I post that question in the XDA General? I've searched and haven't found that question asked.

If your boot loader is locked, you can't do anything.

Bit of background...I've had Android phones since the OG Droid. All of them were rooted. The phone I have now is the Razr HD which I've never rooted. Guess I just got out of the game for a while. I want to root it now but unfortunately, it's been so long since I've been around the forums that I don't really know what anything is anymore or what does what.
I'm sure this has been asked before but every search I do, I come up with stuff that I don't understand. Can someone help out?
Phone is running 4.4.2
System version: 183.46.15.XT926
Thanks!

Abstract: you wanna root your Motorola Razr HD (xt925) ?
You can't go anymore with the "gentle procedure" - which is using Motochopper, a way to root the 4.1.2 without tearing apart your phone.
So either you go back with a stock 4.1.2 and live happily with motochopper and a slow sys, or you follow Motorola instructions to unlock the phone. Be aware that once you enter the code Motorola will provide you'll void your warranty (if you still are under the grace period).

You need to stop putting bad info out there, this unlock only works on the 925. The system version he shows is FW for the 926. You can't unlock the 926 via Moto.

Isn't the Razr HD the xt925?
Or am I getting confused with all those names?
Edit: ah yeah, sorry, I've read only "RAZR HD", and I din't pay attention to sysver. My bad.

The 925 is the GSM variant and is unlockable through Moto. The 926 is the CDMA model that is typically used on Verizon and it's not unlockable through Moto.

Hi, RikRong. I'm also new to this XT926 and on the latest firmware I guess (183.46.15.xt926), is there's any new way to unlock bootloader and root this device? I read an old instruction in another post and just bought this device and now I'm so screwed over .

Unfortunately, right now there is no way to root or unlock that build.

Is this still the case? My phone was auto-upgraded to 4.4.2... I'm stuck?
