Knox and root on galaxy s4 MJ5I - Galaxy S 4 General

I was having a real problem getting cf-auto root to work without Knox giving me a headache, if it's any help Go to More - Application manager - All look for anything involving Knox and disable, come out of application manager, (don't stop it Running), go to Root Explorer and you'll find you've got root access go to System - app and delete the knox applications if you so wish and you should end up with root thereafter.Hope it helps!

[Q] Do all applications get root priviliges on a rooted android phone?

Or what is the exact mechanism behind this in Android? I have been using GNU/Linux for many years so I understand the original concept and would not want every app to have root privileges.
The Superuser app allows you to accept & deny all root apps. You can also choose to always allow certain apps, but you don't have to.
I don't quite understand this. Who gives the apps the privileges. I suppose the Superuser app is only the frontend for some system service. And does it work as a white list or as a black list. Meaning: Does every app get root priviliges by default on a rooted phone or do I have to manually give root privileges to desired apps but the rest doesn't even realize it's on a rooted phone.
By default, apps are denied root privileges. If I restore an app that runs as root in the background -along with its data - the app won't work until I launch it & grant it superuser permissions. Droidwall is a good example of this. Droidwall works by denying or allowing 3g and/or wifi access to apps based on your input. It does this by changing the iptables. If I flash a new ROM & restore with Titanium Backup, I usually forget that Droidwall isn't doing its job until I notice ads in an app that isn't supposed to connect. Once the app is launched & I choose to apply the rules, Superuser prompts me to allow the changes. If I do not make a choice within 10 seconds, SU automatically denies the root request.
In short, an app will never run as root (aside from superuser itself, if that counts) without you first allowing it. Also be aware that most everyday apps will never ask for root access as they don't need it to run. Only apps that are making changes to the system (reading or writing) will need root access. As far as accessing your contact data & other stuff you may worry about, any app can do that if it has permission (not root) to do so. When you first install an app, you will see a list of permissions - usually an app needs those permissions to run and there's nothing to worry about.
OK, thanks I understand it more now. What would happen if I didn't install Superuser. Is there a built in daemon for superuser privileges?
Don't fight the powers that be. Install superuser. You need it.
I'm pretty sure you'll get error messages from most root apps. I could be wrong, though. Next time I'm about to flash a new ROM, I'll remove Superuser after I do my backup, just because I'm curious. I'm pretty sure that Superuser or an alternative - if one exists - is necessary. I know the ability is there in the os, but I would think that it would need some kind of vehicle (such as an app) to relay the information. I certainly hope apps wouldn't automatically be granted root privileges, but I'm not sure. It's an interesting question, though.
Roms come pre-loaded with Superuser, and any auto-root method does as well. You would only be without it if you root manually, stay on stock, and choose not to push the app. Or, I guess, if you choose to remove it.

[Q] Root Question.....

I just rooted my Asus TF101 tablet with Brk's Root Toolkit v8.
It says I am now rooted, but is there any way to know for sure?
I have rooted my phone before & when I did that I was able to remove all the useless apps that came preinstalled, but on my Tablet it will not let me. I was thinking with root access I would be able to do this.
I am thinking of flashing to another ROM, but want to be sure this thing is rooted first.
Any insight is appreciated!!
Thx!!!
Do you have a SuperUser or SuperSU app installed?
I would open it and see what happens.
Also, I do not believe you can uninstall system apps JUST being rooted, you need an app like Titanium Backup to do the uninstalling. They still are not uninstallable in the Settings - Apps section just by rooting.
Alternatively, install a root explorer (or enable Root Explorer permissions in ES File Explorer) and see if you get prompted for root access without errors.

[Q] Help with Kingo Root

I tried to root my device "Infinix Hot" Which apparently has the same build as HTC devices using KingoRoot
5 min after i plugged my device to my pc and had usb debugging on and kingoroot installing drivers it displayed a message "Root success"
But i noticed that my device didn't reboot during the process , which goes against what i have read..........
So i rebooted it manually , and now i have an app called "KingoUser" that i can only disable but not uninstall even if i factory reset( I tried ) ....... But with no root access
I tried many root checking apps and they all displayed that i didn't have root access but i have SU installed
Can someone explain what is going on please?
And can someone please tell me if i can remove this "KingoUser"
Which doesn't appear to have any uses
When i open it all what's there is just a white page with only links to Kingo Websites

Try downloading ES file browser and enable root feature, see if you have root...
You never even get a toast notification from kinguser asking if you want to grant permissions??

I did try several apps from the playstore that require root access like titanium backup ...
And they just keep trying to ask for root access for sometime then display a message "Failed" without any reaction from the "KingoUser" App
Anyway ~ i tried another root program called Vroot ( Or iRoot ) and this time root actually worked and installed superuser that ask for root permission for each program ( Allow of deny dialogue ) And titanium backup has root access now
But the app called "KingoUser" Cant be uninstalled even after doing several factory reset ( Without loosing root status )
I currently have it disabled but i want to permanently remove it cuz it's useless
One more think , i disabled the "superuser" app that automatically installed after the root process and installed the newer version from the play store that works perfectly and it updated my su binary it seems
So is it safe for me to completely remove the outdated superuser app the came with iRoot ? ( Cuz it wont update by itself and i cant find and option to update ) ? And how do i remove it ( Same problem with "KingoUser" )

yeh it's safe to remove, go with any root file explorer to system/app and delete it!
You may also try first freezing that app and then uninstalling it

S7 temp root for UPSM manager

I want to have fb messenger in ultra power saving mode (UPSM). for that i need to use the UPSM Manager app which requires root. I really do not like to root, because more and more apps are blocking rooted devices (Barclays banking, android pay, pokemon go). So I am asking if there exists some methods for gaining temp root (e.g. with adb). so i can install and use upsm-m once and then reboot and root is gone. It is important that the flag is not flipping.
Thank you for all your help

Nope, and even if you could, the app would fail as soon as root was removed

I expected that, on my old htcs there were temp roots available.
But the failing of the app after removing root, is not a problem. The app is just a configfile creator. Since the config file has changed, the app is not needed anymore.

My phone is Schrodinger's rooted

Hello, I'm having a problem with opening up an google pay wallet because my phone is read as rooted. The thing is it is not rooted. I rooted in a previous version of MIUI but after updating the root fell apart and I didn't have root permission's nor is my phone found rooted by root checker. Yet I st ll have problems.
how do I unroot an unrooted phone
Edit: root checker finds that root is not properly installed
Xiaomi mi 9 Lite
Android (And most Linux distros) will have a binary file namer "superuser" to give root access to a user (Or simply just switch to the root user)
The problem is simple: You updated while having root permissions, and this caused you to be the superuser (also known as root) while not having properly functioning root access. You can't do much, try flashing a new ROM maybe.
I want to remove root Access altogether not try and reroot it. Unless fully rooting again would help me unroot
Disable all permissions from Google play service and set up Google pay.
Then re enable them after your Google pay is set up.
Im adding google pay to an existing bank account, i still tried but it doesnt work. would factory resetting maybe help? i know it doesnt delete system files so it wouldnt unroot a rooted phone but maybe it might just work?
