What does launch on Google Play Store mean? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The latest rumours suggest that the Nexus 5 will be launching on the Google Play Store this 31st of October. I live in Australia so does that mean that I should be able to buy the Nexus 5 on the Australian Google Play Store on 31st of October or is this launch only for the US?

Don't know yet - we'll have to wait and see. Typically Aussie release is a bit behind the US though

They will probably launch through the Playstore. Better keep up with the update because this baby will be sold out in a heartbeat.

Really? I heard that if they launch in all countries, it will be a roll-out launch. Which means that Australia will get the device before the US does.

No way. US Play Store will absolutely be the first place it is released. It may become available at that same time in the Play Store of other countries or at other places (T-Mobile, Canadian carriers, anyone else who sells the N5), but definitely not before the US Play Store.
I am talking about ordering, though, and not actually receiving the device. We all know that when we order from Google, the shipment may arrive as soon as the next day or as late as six weeks later.

I would usually disagree with this and as the poster above says the US would get released first knowing Google is a US based company but now seeing that Google is releasing updates to iOS apps before their very own Android apps I wouldn't put it past them to do anything anymore.
Maybe we will be able to buy it in the Apple store first and we can also be lucky and stand in lines overnight.

Well I thought that too until I researched and found out that Google did a staggered rollout for the Nexus 4 to launch at 8AM last year. And since the sun rises in the east, Australia reached 8AM before any of the countries in the Google Play Store countries list did effectively making US Google Play store one of the last to start selling. By the time USA reached 8AM, Australia is already sleeping happily at 11PM knowing they've already ordered their Nexus 4.

They might roll it out in the UK Play store as well, since they have a stock of 3,000 at car phone warehouse ( according to the leaks). Why release it to the stores before the Play store? But 31 Oct or even 1 Nov seems less likely since Google hasn't yet announced an event ( or NDA'd the announcement?) unless they make it a Halloween treat?

[Q] TF101 US Release

Anyone has more news on the release dates and availability in US soil?
This thread is intended to gather all that information, the different available version at launch and prices
so far ive heard mid/late april and also may 7 which i thought was canadian release date, which could always be tied in with US release,
either way....hopefully this thread can help get a better idea of the US release
I guess we will probably get it the week after singapore release.

I am surprised they don't have U.S. preorders out yet, which makes me think that it is coming at a later date
But who knows
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Tegra-2-EeePad-Transformer-Price-Release-Launch,12494.html
The release for this baby is 'early April' according to Asus, so we won’t have to wait long to find out the official pricing (considering April is, you know, here).

Darn, I got excited when I read the thread title.
i've waited too long the fever is cooling down.
they are out of supplies in taiwan, and due to japan earthquake, parts were delayed. i'd be surprised if they'll have enough to display in every bestbuy store by end of month.
I saw dates of April 19 being mentioned in various places, but more likely in other forums. None of the etailers like amazon have anything on it either, although newegg lists the 32GB version but no release date or price. Japan situation is really bad though so that could be reason of no word from asus. If there really is a big delay and it goes into May I might just wait and see what the samsung 10.1 situation is as thats meant to be released June 6 or 9.
OMG I desperately want this tablet. At first I was all for the Xoom, but my interest in this tablet has grown exponentially daily! I just hope that it's out in bestbuy by my birthday, April 23rd!!

Well i hope the 19th is accurate because my birthday is on the 18! easy way to justify the purchase! but given we're a week away with no word, can only hope now.
mine's 17th
we should have a bday party together, stare at the pictures of transformer, and tears running down the face
Amazon UK are now saying preorders will be dispatched on the 1st of June. That could mean the US release is pushed back at least that far.
I really hope it goes up for sell sometime in April. Not sure I can wait much longer....

Cross your fingers - stranger things have happened! (Oh, and don't forget to make a wish for the Transformer to be released when/if you blow out your candles on your birthday cake (I'll do the same!) Hahaha)

How could that be? Didn't the Transformer go on sale very recently in the UK? So, couldn't someone in the UK just walk into a retail store as we would in the US and pick one up - or is it really that backed up/not available in stores?
Anyone working for bestbuy, or with friends working there or friends of friends or ... that can spill some details?
We promise we won't say anything and we'll keep this just among us...
i envy you guys...i was waiting for tmo's gslate until i saw the transformer..but my needs changed and i'm dropping my gal tab since i picked up the asus eee slate ep121....and although i will miss android...i cant say enough good things about this slate

Amazon always tends to play it safe to try and avoid extra calls etc. However, as soon as they have the stock available they will ship it out ASAP and I am sure that will not be June.
Now I just wish we would get a US release date!
Here they talk about the 18th, but I don't know how reliable this source is:
http://www.pdfdevices.com/asus-eee-pad-transformer-hacked-even-before-the-us-release/
I hate to say this but, if it was anytime in April, I would think that we would be able to pre-order.
At this point I may be moving forward with the Iconia....
i was debating on the acer jsut because the US hasn't even heard a thing about a release date, but i don't know if i can push myself to do that lol
ill probably end up waiting, but it would be nice if we would hear ANYTHING confirming any release date in the states

Is Amazon App Store ever going to reach people outside the US?

Will it ever reach people outside the US? i believe there is a huge market out there for amazon to gain traction on the android platform. amazon app store with half as many good offers as the US model would work wonders.
I searched for you, but I had no luck in finding any true relevant infosssss IDK. As of now, no true mention but I would guess so soon...

thanks mate. appreciate the effort.
frustrating really this. then again i guess the entire point of having an amazon android app store is about competing with android market only in the US especially since amazon isnt really big out side the US or UK.

In my own experience I can attest that they are very present in Germany and Austria as well.
I would guess they are very well known in France and Spain, too.
Here is an overview over their local presences: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=487250
At this point, the Amazon Android App Store is probably not all that successful in the US, it likely doesn't make any sense at this point to market it in Europe.
Some electric products can't be shipped to outside of US.
I tried many times, but there seems to be a regulation specially for computer staffs.
i live in Denmark and use the store on amazon.co.uk
Amazon have only recently started shipping to Ireland too i believe which is shameful, a global company like this should ship worldwide.

Google Play Edition S4/One - has yours shipped yet?

I haven't seen any recent Google Play shipping threads, and certainly nothing on this, so hopefully we as a community can track this.
Ordered: 6/30
Shipped: pending by the 9th
Given the price and market (selling unlocked and full price in practically the only market that is nearly-exclusive to subsidies), I'm not expecting heavy sales volume.

Same here with my S4 order. On Wallet site under order status it says "Your purchase is processing." I have not checked if my credit card has been charged yet, but it probably hasn't.
I hope this isn't another Nexus 4 launch day fiasco. If anyone would have their sales channels and inventory sorted out, it's Samsung.

Doesn't seem like a fiasco. It's just that June 26th was the pre-order date and July 9th seems to be the availability date. There were a few people that claimed to get them, but outside of some media outlets, every user I've seen that claimed to have one ultimately ended up just flashing the GPE ROM on their existing phone. They were lying.
While mine hasn't shipped yet, it seems like they are filtering out now. The real GPEs are hitting users who are posting unboxing videos left and right. This should reduce the number of "reviews" being posted by users claiming to have them, but actually just running a ROM.
Original orders were supposed to ship by this upcoming Tuesday, so it's mostly irrelevant now. Ours should ship tomorrow or Tuesday.
Got my shipping notice last night. Delivery ETA is Friday the 12th.

No more Nexus 5?

So I recent cracked my Nexus 5 and went to Sprint and T-Mobile to get a new one. (Looking to buy it out right to avoid waiting for a new one.) I was told at 2 sprint stores and 1 T-Mobile store that Google has stopped production on the phones and they are out of stock before finding what I was looking for at the last T-Mobile store. The last guy also told me they won't be getting anymore stock. So I'm imagining that the N6 is coming and coming real soon if they've stopped production in the N5. I know it usually comes around Oct-Nov but hopefully we get it sooner before later.
You really believe what people at T-Mobile/Sprint said?
Production of the Nexus 5 hasn't stopped and can still be purchased thru google.
You should of slapped them in the face for saying such idiotic things lol

They have support reps for their hardware.
As far as the rep being "hush hush" about the N6 It's probably because the rep didn't say anything about it. Honestly, those guys don't know anything other than what the public knows about upcoming devices.

There's really no secrets lol. I think the N6 is that posters belief as to the reason why it is not being produced anymore. There's really no secrets about the new nexus, it comes every year at about the same time. Everyone starts speculating in february but every year it gets released at the same time

Like someone else said Google does have rep for their hardware which is who you call when you need support for your device you purchased from the play store.
I would think that a T-Mobile rep would have a good idea of their inventory. Just because Google has some for sell doesn't necessarily mean they are still making them, you see there is this thing called back stock. I'm not saying that the T-Mobile/Sprint reps are right but to hear it from 4 different reps at 4 different stores from 2 different carriers leads me to think maybe, just maybe.

The Tmobile stores around me (4 of them) still have the phone on display and in stock and on their site. Maybe you had someone who is misinformed or maybe they didn't get stock and it wasn't communicated properly.

There is a Redditch thread confirming what I was told and there are now rumors of Google announcing the Nexus 6(?) In about 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe I was and I'm not saying that I wasn't but I managed to find a Nexus at a store which says back stock to me.

It could also simply mean they are not replacing stock in certain countries. You would have to be in contact with LG contracted factories in China to know if they are still making them or not, I doubt T-Mobile, Sprint, or Google reps have these contacts.
You know what! You're absolutely right. Why would they want to keep the people selling and supporting their device if they are going to be selling their product anymore... That wouldn't make any sense.
They probably want to push certain markets to get their new products, but that is not going to work for all markets. Picking up a brand new N5 in China or Hongkong is very easy right now. They are all over the place. I would imagine places with issues would be North America, Western Europe, and Aus/NZ. If you put two and two together, they want rich countries to purchase their new device but at the same time understand most of the worlds markets will not go for the new device because of funds.
They can make more money by pushing the N6 on the US, than by continuing to stock the N5. The opposite is true in other places. Ending the N5 will mean they lose money.

Carries in the states make almost no money on phone sales. They get their money from subscribers. They could care less what phone you are using.
I think that there is a very good chance neither Sprint or T-mobile are still offering the Nexus 5 (aside from in-store stock still available), but Google Play has all models and sizes in-stock at the moment. I don't think the phone has been killed just yet. I certainly hope the Nexus X is only a few weeks off, but I don't believe it yet.
I'm a rep at sprint that phone went end of life like the day of the iPhone 6 launch I was so mad that they did that I sell the nexus 5 a lot

What is the real release date for the S2 Classic?

Does anyone know the real official release date of the S2 Classic? I know a few people got them from Best Buy and Macy's but neither of them have any in stock now it seems. Samsung has royally screwed up the release of this watch. When I tried Best Buy one time it said October 21st, but now it just says "Coming Soon". Any ideas or clues?
Macy's is showing in stock for me, and Best Buy was in stock this past week but not anymore.
Yeah release date has passed just low on stock is what i would say. Some of my bestbuys have them but not all.

Macy's says in stock, but when you click checkout it says product is unavailable. I've tried to buy it three times over the phone, but it won't go through. Best Buy Canada website says the classic and white version will be available on October 30th, so I maybe that is when.
I ordered mine from Samsung on the 2nd, and it hasn't shipped yet. I called customer service last week and they said it would ship the 21st.
Samsung website has recently changed from 3 to 4 weeks to 1 to 3 business days for the classic as well, which matches the 21st.

Thanks for the info. Macy's told me they ship on the 21st and I saw that date at Best Buy one time as well. I guess they are finally getting full inventory.
Hopefully, I have had such a hard time buying this watch i'm not sure it's worth it anymore haha. I mean I love everything about the GS2, but this out of stock BS is insane.
they're in stock. on samsung website.
I went to the Macy's at South Coast Plaza here in the OC and they had the black S2 and Classic in stock and on display.
I didn't like how rough the leather band was. It was hard to strap the watch on and take it off, especially compared to the S2. Also, the screen is noticeably smaller than the S2. Glad I got to see it in person.
I'm definitely getting the silver S2 3G version in November.

I know this might surprise you, but have you checked SAMSUNG.com?

Last week bestbuy had two of them and I know of 2 people at work that have the classic. So I would say that your looking in the wrong place or waiting for something special if you don't have one. Easiest place right now is to just buy from Samsung Direct rather then driving around to stores checking stock.
You probley feel like an iPhone user right now how it takes 1 month after release to get the product in stock.

Not sure what you don't understand about the words "in stock", but thanks for playing. I've been on top of all the local stores here in/around philly and it's been hopeless. So you and your friends got one of the initial 5 pieces that were sent to limited stores. Pat yourself on the back.
I preordered S2 Classic on Amazon, oct 3rd, surprisingly delivered on oct 13th.
Had mine ordered on Amazon with no delivery date in sight. Cancelled and placed an order with Samsung online based on availability.
Yesterday I called them and verified that they received a large amount of stock. They told me that mine will ship within a day or so, and yet, I get an email notification today saying that mine is on back order! Samsung has done a terrible job of misjudging the demand forecast and is being awfully slow in supplying to meet the demands of its enthusiastic fans. There is no excuse for not supplying the product that's in demand. It's just poor planning and execution to say the least. I'm debating whether I still want this or not.

At least they responded quickly to my complaint. I shall wait a few more days...
Now Samsung has officially pissed off a long-term fan of Samsung products- ME!
First I place an order on their on-line store based on "Ships in 1-3 business days" promise only to find out that my order gets placed on the back order status a day later.
Then, I get a promise of delivery from the batch of shipment from fulfillment center on 10/23.
Then, my order status becomes unavailable.
What the heck?
All this after trying to order from Bestbuy, Amazon and Macy and waiting for more than a week already.
This is not a proper way to handle your loyal customer!
It's bad enough to keep waiting for the availability of the product 20 days after releasing the product.
I don't need this false marketing and non-responsive customer service and support on top of that.
